Celemony suggests at 3:13 that ARA technology is happily at work in the recent Pro Tools 2020.11-Melodyne _marriage._ But I feel that that may be a bit of a stretch. *Audio to MIDI* may _hook_ into Melodyne's algorithms but, from what I can tell, it's basically just a one-and-done straight-through conversion... I really don't see anything "ARA" about it. In order for Audio to MIDI to work as an ARA feature as presented here, Melodyne would need to be actively "aware" of what is on every single audio track at all times. If that were the case, then there would be no need to *manually* transfer individual selections of audio into Melodyne in order to work with it -- they would already be available. Plus, there are no _live_ links (correct me if I'm wrong) between the original audio and resulting MIDI events. Without those, it's not really "ARA" in any meaningful sense. Get rid of the *Transfer* button in the Melodyne interface, and have changes in Melodyne's timeline immediately reflected in Pro Tools' and vice versa. THEN you'll have ARA as it was intended.
ARA is just the technology that the Audio-to-MIDI feature in Pro Tools is based on. The note detection and MIDI conversion is done by Melodyne silently in the background. Of course you are right, there’s more to ARA than just this, but at least it’s a start, isn’t it? 🙂
@@celemony Oh, it IS a start, and that's HUGE... I am (as many, many other Pro Tools _survivors_ are, I'm sure) SO happy that Avid is *actively* involved with Celemony. @@emdrstudio I understand what ARA is _supposed_ to be... but just because there's now an *option* for it in Pro Tools Preferences doesn't mean that it's actually implemented in the way it was intended. ARA is supposed to provide real-time *two-way* communication between the plugin and the DAW. I don't see that happening here. All I see is a simple Pro Tools _call_ to a Melodyne _function_ to do a linear translation on the selected "data."
