CMD + T to trim around the clip you've selected. CMD +U for strip silence. Option+0 for quantize. The video was awesome by the way just a few short cuts I use sometimes that I thought I'd share for who ever reads this.
Wow what an amazing video great entraining host. I have just spent 1 hour writing down all the key commands on to sticky notes in front of me in my studio. There is a lot of shortcuts which I’m sure will take time to learn. Thank you very much for this video I really appreciate it🙏🏽
EXCELENT video! One of the best tutorials on pro tools on youtube!! These are all VERY useful and I appreciate you get straight to the point for every feature and point made. VERY useful video and great presentation!
Fab talked about getting frustrated from losing a selection. (COMMAND + OPTION+Z) restores your last selection. In a beat detective workflow, I also use (SHIFT+/) which toggles the link timeline and edit selection so that you can maintain your precise selection while listening to different parts of it. These are VERY useful to me when I am editing drums.
Another shortcut that it´s really good: For alternating WAVE view and PLAY LISTS view: CONTROL+WINDOWS+ALT+ Left/right arrows. I think this shortcut is one of the TOP 5 for heavy Pro Tools users.
hitting thumbs up on this because it's gonna ensure I keep getting a paycheck in the near future. lmao. awesome video! simple explanations, yet comprehensive enough to give me examples of when i'll need to use some of these shortcuts
Shift + > for fast forward and < for rewind is cool, i use it all the time. Cmd + 1 for zoom is nice as well, always leave it on "single zoom". Just zoom out and back in with this shortcut. Great for very large sessions. Also, you can use shift with the P and ; to select a group of channels to mute or solo them for eg.
On the first row of sends, click with right button of you mouse and select which send you wanna see as a fader.. For example (Send A). Then get it back to "basic view" by selecting "assignments"! :) "Copying to Sends" is copying you're current volume fader position to particular send selected by menu.. Try it! :) ..and greetings from Finland! /Henrik
Thanks for the video, some good shortcut tips here. Could you do a video on the benefits of using the mix window as opposed to just the edit window by itself?
Thanks for posting, it's helping me brush up. Do you have or know of any videos in which the digidesign protools keyboard is demonstrated?? I've been searching a lot. Thanks again!
Merci pour l'info. Enfin une bonne vidéo de l'endroit où apprendre quelque chose d'utile dans la pratique! Une question, la caméra utilisée pour filmer la vidéo? La résolution est superbe! Merci encore.
I like how if you are in GRID mode, you can change the grid value by using control+command and the +/- keys on the numeric key pad. Thanks for posting the copy faders to sends, I always forget that one.
The "copy mix to sends" options does only work in Pro Tools HD? Because I am on PT 9 and the shortcut "option + cmd + H" unfortunately does not do anything...
Great video, got a question about 13:30 I notice you have a stereo track panned to mono wouldn’t this in theory be twice as loud as it should be. I could easily be wrong just wondering
hey i have question for you what is your video camera that record awesome i am nearly to get one and wanna make sure that i am going to pick the correct
thanks for the vid.. just started with PT and with this video my life is so easy after writing down the shortcuts. im using the boom for the drums and i guess is not possible to take all pattern notes and copy them into PTs secuencer? 16 steps is a little short for me. thanks 10000!
My personal fav... (PC) start+alt+click drag to open track..... (MAC) option+command+click drag to open track. so key when comping vocal tracks and there are lots of playlists..when in SLIP mode , allows you to have the region that is selected be duplicated and moved to any available track with out moving forward or backward..only straight up and down!!!
At 13:28, the mixer view on the Sends, how do you get to that view? I've seen this before on major studio screens, but never knew how to get to it. Could you please explain how that is pulled up? Thanks
the answer is - while having the clip highlighted: use control -/+ ... took some searching (it's in the manual in the shortcuts section, if you use the word search "nudge".)
Great video ! Is there anyone who could tell me whether groups work in Pro Tools First ??? I have tried everything but Cmd+G does not do anything, there is no Groups listed in the side bar or on the Mixer either. Clip Groups do work, but not Track Groups! TIA
LOVE THE VID!! I have learned sooo much. But im running ProTools on a PC and the Ooption+Command+H does is not translating to PC and I cant find the Mac Or PC version of this command in the ProTools shortcut PDF. Can any1 help me?
Hey dude great video!! I have a question. I have multiple video tracks in my session. Is there a hotkey to switch between which video track is active? Anything that is faster then clicking the little blue button on the track. Thanks
I have a short question to you: You probably know that if you press ALT + 6 on the nominal keyboard you can use EQ 4-Band and edit without having to to enter the plugin every single time. The question is, if it possible to open it without having a nominal keyboard? Thanks.
Well done. There is now an App for iOS and Android now that quizzes/teaches like 200 shortcuts with a keyboard. Search the app stores for "Pro Tools Shortcuts"
This is video is so helpful but also so dense. I think it would be much better if it's split in at least 3 parts. Also, it needs an update, but it's still useful nowadays
You can program your own, (it's the only way I know of). SYSTEM PREFS/ACCESSABILITY/KEYBOARD/KEY PREFS/APP SHORTCUTS/ select Pro Tools, use + to add a shortcut, type : Track List and add CMND 6 for example. I use CMND 6 for Track List and CMND 9 for Clip List.
super helpful. thx
thanks for the kind words.
CMD + T to trim around the clip you've selected. CMD +U for strip silence. Option+0 for quantize. The video was awesome by the way just a few short cuts I use sometimes that I thought I'd share for who ever reads this.

Excellent video. Clearly articulated and quick to the point.
Another shortcut that it´s really good: For alternating WAVE view and PLAY LISTS view: CONTROL+WINDOWS+ALT+ Left/right arrows. I think this shortcut is one of the TOP 5 for heavy Pro Tools users.
+pureMix Windows/Alt??? wtf? what freakin' system is THAT?

Thanks Fab for these amazing tips! :D this is so valuable! Here's one -> Ctrl + M to mute the selected clip

Thanks for posting, it's helping me brush up. Do you have or know of any videos in which the digidesign protools keyboard is demonstrated?? I've been searching a lot. Thanks again!

The 9 minute mark made me laugh. Nice bonus tip how to get people out of the studio while your mixing.
My personal fav... (PC) start+alt+click drag to open track.....

Hey Fab! Can you tell me what the key command is to slip a region within a clip (this is for post audio as opposed to music).
the answer is - while having the clip highlighted: use control -/+ ... took some searching (it's in the manual in the shortcuts section, if you use the word search "nudge".)
A very good tutorial, many thanks!
This is how a video should be made! Lit! You just made my life easier! 😍❤️
Great video ! Is there anyone who could tell me whether groups work in Pro Tools First ??? I have tried everything but Cmd+G does not do anything, there is no Groups listed in the side bar or on the Mixer either. Clip Groups do work, but not Track Groups! TIA

One more thing, how do you Open and Close Side Bars? I dont think you mentioned it @8:07
Flow Beatz805 he did pay attention
Opt + cmd + W

This is great, thanks for the video! And I like the sense of humor :)

at 8:06 you mention opening and closing the side bars, What keys did you hit for that? thats was cool but I dont kno how you did that.
