as an aircraft mechanic, I would of cleaned the painted surface to be sure it's dirt & oil free before applying silicone. Vibration will cause the silicon to dis-bond over time. But other then that, cool video!
Thanks for the tip on the airbag plastics I had no idea about those catch clips that were on there. Got my rails off today, now just waiting for parts to install my custom rack. I also ordered some flexseal style tape for the channel to seal up those additional holes.
Great video's thanks for the effort. I just purchased and installed the RNO.FIT ladder and I was chatting with them and they said that they reached out to Prinsu about having to remove the headliner and Prinsu said that you did not. Have they reached out to you at all? FYI: I emailed them about the extra holes to see if they have addressed the issue and here is their response "We recommend using a weather seal tape to plug the extra holes in the roof. Beyond that, we do not have any plugs or alternatives to seal those holes" I do not mean anything negative in this post just information for everyone who wants this awesome roof rack!!
Definitely questioning if I still want to get a prinsu rack now lol. Looks great but that looked like a lot. Can’t believe Toyota didn’t make those removable from the outside.
dustinmcd91 if you’re uncomfortable taking down your headliner the install could be tough-it was overall easy to install tho once the old rack was off.
Glad I could help! I also have a one-month follow-up video and accessories mounting video for the Prinsu which will give you some more info and insight on this rack system. Follow Up: ruclips.net/video/mSzQFHHtDVQ/видео.html Mounting Accessories: ruclips.net/video/Ch4rOrQ1MRQ/видео.html
Pretty sure you would have said something about it in the video but wanted to make sure…the top of the bolts on the ladder clears the roof of the car when the tailgate is open? Are you still happy with it? Thinking of getting one to load stuff on a rooftop carrier. I’m too short to load from the back even from a conventional ladder because of the angle and unfortunately that’s where my cargo box opens. :/

Couple questions Can you attach snowboard racks to the prinsu rack ? Also ? What can of tires do you have ? Im looking into getting the nitto ridge grapplers 255/R55r18 but im open to suggestions . What kind of light bar is that? Where did you buy it from? Also, you mentioned that you're from CA.. Have you had any probs with the cops, since light bars above your headlights are illegal on normal roads in CA?
I own a 2020 XLE and wanting to go from the standard side rails to the adventure side rails. Is it possible to make the change and is the XLE side rail removal/install the same as the adventure rails?
Will the process be about the same for a 2020 LE trim? I love the look of this rack over ones that sit on rails but I’m not sure if I’m comfortable with removing the inside headliner since I just got this
Huolihan I can’t with 100% certainty that it would be identical, but at this point I’ve received enough feedback from other RAV4 owners who installed the prinsu rack that the process overall is similar regardless of trim level.
Great video and nice rack. I love the color of your RAV. I was wondering why you switched from your cargo basket. Seems like just a few videos ago, you were installing it. Don’t get me wrong, this looks awesome, but I am guessing it cost a lot more. Just curious because I am thinking about solutions for my RAV.
The cargo basket was in lieu of a platform rack system. At the time, the prinsu (or any of the brands that ultimately replicated the prinsu rack) didn’t have exist for the RAV4. The basket is a great budget option but will cause you to have to lift gear/cargo an extra 4-5” to get up and over the side rails-it’s also a lot noiser than the low profile prinsu rack.
Danny Rocksteady Thank you for taking the time to answer. I like your new rack, although I am not as brave as you to drill a hole in my car. 😂 Maybe in the future. In any case, you ave an awesome RAV.
Since it’s been over a year with the prinsu rack, have you had any leaks or silicone failure in the holes the prinsu bolted through or the extra holes that you had to plug?
I have not had any issues whatsoever-I am actually about to remove the rack in the next couple days to wrap my roof and had planned on doing a 1 year follow up video. Stay tuned!
I run a trigger wireless controller for my lighting gear so there is minimal wiring needing to be routed-here’s a video I did introducing the system in my setup: ruclips.net/video/mSzQFHHtDVQ/видео.html
@@DannyRocksteady I've watched that one too. Just wondering if you've had any leaks up to this date? And I didn't see anything about the flex seal tape in that video. Just installed my prinsu rack and I noticed a drop of water on the headliner this morning
How come you didn’t add your basket on top of the prinsu? I just recently bought a Thule canyon xt and really want the prinsu but have not seen anyone with the prinsu and a basket.
That would've been a huge mess on my roof if I'm being honest. Anything I would carry in the basket I can securely mount to Prinsu's system. I was able to mount a hard box and awning to the rack more efficiently than with a basket. Check this video out: ruclips.net/video/Ch4rOrQ1MRQ/видео.html
Danny Rocksteady yea I’ve been watching all your videos Over and over to see what you’ve done. I tend to bring a car full of people when we camp so gear space is much needed. Pretty much the only reason I’m hesitant of going for the prinsu because I JUST bought the basket.
Hi, i have the 2021 Rav4 (Side Flush Rails installed) and I'm interested in the Prinsu Roof Rack but, is the a way to mount without removing the side rails?
Jake Brown not directly about it-but I posted a 1 month follow up video and discussed the plugs. The feedback I’ve received from everyone else has been about the same. They plugged them with some type of body plugs.
Dallen Pearson based on the feedback since I originally posted this video, you will need to drop the headliner to access the internal rail bolts regardless of trim level.
Keep in mind that this was the FIRST rack out in public and installed DIY--so I followed Prinsu's instructions step-by-step with no youtube resources available to me at the time. Since then the Rav4 community has grown exponentially and more resources have become availble. That being said, the community has found a way to install the rack without having to drill and use the plusnuts for the rear most set of holes where you use a washer and nut to secure the rear of the rack since you have the headliner down anyway. Just hit your local hardware store with the supplied bolts and find a set of washers and nuts that fit--then apply the silicone and complete the install per the instructions.
Mikey Espinoza considering I had to do it from start to finish without a video like this available it took about 2 days-but if I had to do it again it would probably take about 3-4 hours.

Love the info in this video! It's good to know the Adventure has a few extra holes that will need to be plugged. Keep the videos coming!
Good video my friend. I’m sure the rest of the Rav4 + Prinsu community is as grateful as I am.

Shoulda take the headliner off and put some starlight on the headliner and paint everything black to match interior 🥶😎 my next goals

Glad I saw this video. Now I know not to order this rack because I'm too lazy to do all that lol
Phuong Vo you could always pay a competent off-road shop to install it 🤷🏻♂️
I ordered it lol. I figured I need to get off my butt anyways. I have a shop so all this stuff is easy to me it's just so hot in Texas I hate it
Just to be clear. For the xle, le, etc. models, you do not have to remove the headliner?
From my understanding (based on the instructions prinsu provided) that is correct.

hi where did you purchase the ladder from?
the link for the ladder is in the description
Is dropping the headliner necessary on xle model? Non adventure/trd
Yes, all models.

Yes with silicone
