What's the Difference between Mario and Dr. Mario? (SSBU)

- Dr. Mario isn't considered an echo fighter of Mario in Smash Bros. Ultimate - why is that?
That's what I'm going to explore in this video.

I’d change Doc’s final smash to be similar to Ness/Lucas’s final smash, just instead of raining PK Starstorm shots it’s raining large multicolored pills.
I would make it a controllable final smash where you could choose where you want to drop the pills. But if I want to keep Final Smashes the way they are in Ultimate, which is fast and to the point ( which still doesn’t explain why Peach’s final smash is still the same! This goes for Daisy as well ), this is an ok compromise. Besides, in the Dr.Mario games he drops the pills from the TOP of the screen.
i would change all other player's character to one certain color and have their color come from all directions and have their attacks be weaker and some not work because it takes away body parts considering on position
If I was redesigning Doc's, it'd suck enemies trapped in the attack towards the middle, deal less damage per-hit, and at the end, delivers a nasty hitbox that deals great damage & knockback.
HK C Starving that is actually Smart!
I've been wanting them to change Mario's final smash since brawl lmao it's so baf
I'd make it so that doc rushes forward and slaps any foes he touches into the bottle thingy that he throws pills in to get rid of viruses. Then he would pile in a bunch of viruses and pills until the whole thing explodes into a colorful mess.
Dr Marios movement is worse because he's weighed down by his university debt

@@dontegraves5051 "Funny... everything you just said was wrong."
Mario may have better recovery but that doesn't automatically make him better. Especially since Doc's recovery is so much better than people seem to think. A Doc main may have to play riskier or more carefully when fighting Mario but its not black and white like you make it sound... it all comes down to skill. If Dr. Mario can avoid getting knocked off-stage, or play smart when he does, a Mario main wouldn't have that much of an advantage, especially when Doc can tear through stocks very quickly... it just requires an opening.

Dr Mario: 40+ spots below Mario in ground speed
Alex: "it isn't a huge difference..."
The main reason Dr mario is that low is because of his horrible recovery. Because of his low jumps, slower air speed, and the less distance traveled with his up special, he can almost never make it back to the stage, gimping him is extremely easy. This is even WITH doc's down special, which regular mario doesnt have.
If doc could actually recover, he would be instantly much higher on the tier list and could actually rival mario.
@@ComradeVenus he was talking strictly about ground speed, not tier lsit position

I would've preferred Dr. Mario to keep the speed and recovery of Mario. It would make it so Dr. Mario could actually be decently high on the tier list as a harder hitting but less combo-focused version of Mario. I find the Final Smashes humorous though. Both of their Neutral Specials are iconic, fire and pills. And Final Smashes which are activated by the neutral special button are super powered beefed up versions of their respective iconic power.
I had a dream once where docs final smash was changed, he flipped out his white cape and captured enemies into a big pill bottle and then using both of his arms, rapidly launched various pills into it and cause repeated damage until the bottle burst open... I still think about it sometimes
@@miguelsierra3767 that's always how I envisioned an alternate final smash for him
I think Mario's Final Smash really fits his "everyman" status. It's a fairly basic, suped-up version of his Neutral B. Rather than a reference to anything in particular, it's more so an introduction to the concept of Final Smashes. I do think Doc's could be something more unique, though.
@@Dragoryu3000 that's a good analysis! (Although it doesn't reference anything specific in particular, it does reference his iconic fire powers he's had since Super Mario Bros.) He's also had it since Brawl and I think it was the very first Final Smash revealed and shown off
Devan Archer I thought Mario’s Final Smash was a reference to his big fireball attack (forgot the name) from Super Mario RPG?
I’d change doc’s final smash to where he crushes the opponent with a microscope which takes the opponent to a place full of the germs and they just beat the crap out-of the opponent

Both are very offensive, the difference is that Mario has frequent but short bursts of damage because he gets a follow up out of like everything, doc doesn’t have frequent but short bursts, he does however have more damage output which makes up for it, the real difference is how they get in and how many times they need to get in

Hey, just a little info on the pill and fire neutral bs, when going up against Game and watch, GW’s bucket absorbs the fireballs, while reflects the pills.
Cool video. I love the outro!
Mario's Nair sweet spot is at the beginning of the move, docs is at the end.
The neutral air is the only attack in the game that increases in damage the later its hit
You forgot to mention that Mario's fireballs are an energy based projectile, while Dr. Mario's pills are a physical projectile. This means that certain characters that absorb energy based projectiles, like Ness, Lucas, and Mr. Game & Watch, can't absorb Dr. Mario's pills (granted, Game & Watch could still reflect it, but he can't build up his Oil Panic).

@@wingedbluj1674 how do you even say up-air? *U A I R*
But..Dr.Mario Fair is in top 3
There is a difference in final smash attack. Mario fs is wider which causes people (even at high percent) can some times fall out of it while Dr. Mario is more closer together causing people at high percent less likely to fall out of it.
For Dr. Mario, I would give his FS more vertical range. That way, opponents will have to jump really high to avoid it. But as a trade-off, it will have less attack power and horizontal range. For Mario’s FS, I would give him more attack power and horizontal range but less vertical range.
Basically, if you don't want to watch the whole video:
Dr. Mario is slower but with stronger attacks
Mario is faster with weaker attacks

I was wondering why mario felt so much smoother to play with but it all makes sens with this video!
The nairs have a slight difference, actually. Mario’s nair is most powerful when starting the attack, while Doc’s gets stronger towards the end of the move. Their side specials also have different hitboxes, with Doc’s being a little taller, but shorter in length.
Doctor Mario’s Nair is stronger at the END of the attack, while Mario’s Nair is stronger at the start
Doctor Mario is just enslaved pills
Ah, yes
2:10 I'm gonna stop you right there buddy... Dr. Mario's neutral air has more power at the latter end of the hitbox. Unlike Mario's where its stronger at the start and the late hit is weaker, Doc is weaker at the start and stronger with the late hit.
3:30 "nothing meaningful"... except Doc's pill is easier to follow up with since the vertical knockback inadvertently leaves them more open to attack, since they can't react as quickly with aerial hitstun and it has a more favorable angle.
4:59 Doc's down throw has a more vertical knockback angle, more knockback, but less knockback scaling. This means it can be a reliable combo starter even at higher percentages... Mario, meanwhile, launches at a diagonal angle which pretty much removes all combo potential when the oppenent is past 60%-100%

So basically Mario has better mobility but Dr. Mario hits harder.
Nice
So something that real stuck out to me when pointing out how similiar their Final Smashes are is that I'm REALLY hoping that in the next Smash game, that they really go all in on making each character unique. Like they can cut down the roster significantly and just give every single character unique moves and properties and that goes double for their Final Smashes!
I think for Dr. Marios final smash the opponent is trapped in a giant bottle and Dr. Mario starts throwing pills down crushing the opponent and when he's done, he'll take a deep breath, look up and get startled, reveling a stampede of viruses and they all rush into the bottle crushing the opponent on their way.
Cool tune at the ending...
I like how they kept Mario’s original down special and made it to a attack, I wish they did the same for Charizard and allow him to keep Rock Smash in his arsenal.
marios nair is actually stronger when you first use it and over time it gradually loses strength, while dr marios nair slowly gains strength
One is a plumber, the other is a doctor.
dr. Mario's back throw when the enemy is 999%:Ima pick you up and then throw you other space
Doc's final smash should just be him diagnosing the opponents with the dead.
Not to mention that the game doesn't register doc's attacks as fire attacks (i.e. they don't immediately explode the explosive crate item)
Same moves, slightly different adjustments, a new move or two - sounds like it should be an echo.
Mario: Who are you?
Dr. Mario: I'm you but stronger
I think that Doc is perfect like this but about the Fs
I think it would've be a cinematic one, which he would launch the opponent on the stage of the first game of him, then a lot of viruses would damage the opponent, while Doc would make a "Special Pill" (from the 3Ds game) that will kill the viruses and launch the opponent far away because of the xplosion.
Well thanx if you had the patience and creativity to read this and imagine the FS.
6:07
Different Final Smashes:
Mario- Mega Mario.
Mario turns into mega mario. It's basically Pacman's final smash but with a bigger hitbox and can only go horizontally up to 45 degrees up or down.
Dr. Mario- Puzzle Doctor
Doc throws pills into the air and they all come crashing down like in his original puzzle games. He also takes a stance like in his puzzle games and stands still until the final smash is over.
Edit: the pills would fall slightly closer to opponents. If the opponents are really far apart from each other, the pills will fall far away from each other as well.
(The pills would fall from the top of the screen btw)
