I saw Puddles at The Hamilton in Washington DC. The venue is in the basement and almost has a speak easy vibe. His performance was incredible, and when he did Royals near the end of the set, he ran to the back of the house where it was standing room only, gathered up about 30 people, and brought us all on stage to sing with him. He's absolutely spectacular.
Went to Puddles Pity Party show right before the Rona hit. It is definitely not a social distancing event. He walked through the venue and shook hands, fist bumped or hugged every single person in the whole audience. Very cool dude and a great show!
Oh, YES! More Puddles! And more PMJ in general. So many great singers and musicians, wonderful. My favorite Puddles & PMJ song is him and Haley Reinhart: Mad World. Another one of my favourite PMJ vocalists was singing background here: Robyn Adele Anderson. Timber and We Can't Stop are fantastic. And, while I'm at it, Sara Niemitz is great as well, maybe the singer who has the most fun performing with PMJ. Just watch Love Yourself. Or her cover version of Jessie J.'s Price Tag without PMJ, very well worth checking out. Unfortunately I didn't have the luck to catch Sara at a PMJ show yet. I'v tried 5 times already and I'll certainly try again. As many times as it takes ;)
@@martycech5844 he took my phone while singing Unchained Melody before giving my phone to someone else and taking theirs. I was the first person in the crowd he did that to and it totally caught me off guard. :-P
Yep.. Robyn Adele Anderson as background vocal..She would deserve a react. my favorite : Careless Whisper - Vintage 1930's Jazz Wham! Cover feat. Robyn Adele Anderson & Dave Koz
Wow! I love your analysis. I've been a Puddles fan for a few years now and what's been consistent in all his song cover videos is that people comment how they can finally understand the meaning of the lyrics, despite having listened to said songs many times. I've always wondered why and how that could be, and your explanation of his use of consonants and vowels and different techniques and styles used to tell a story is, I think, exactly why people say Puddles helped them gain a deeper understanding of a familiar song. And wow as well for the research! Yes, Big Mike Geier and Puddles are two seperate beings. If you search for videos of him singing as Big Mike, you'll see that the style of singing is completely different. Like you said, Puddles plays with his rhythm and tones, in that playful and theatrical way. His covers are always wiidly different from the original songs. BM, on the other hand, sounds more like a conventional, straight singer (which I guess he is) but he still utilizes all those techniques and the effortless control of his voice and makes the songs his. A smooth and sleek veteran singer. Sorry for the wall of text, I got too excited 😂 Again, thank you so much for the reaction!

Great episode as usual! Subscriber for a few months. Pleasure to watch. My wife is also a lovely redhead like yourself so I need to ask where did you get that fab kimono? Her bday is coming soon!
I just checked too. I saw him at The Sinclair late 2016. I first saw him in April 2016 at the Columbus in Providence which was a small venue. I'd never seen someone's jaw literally drop until I looked over at my wife :)
So far my favorite from him is his "Moosh-up" of Folsom Prison Blues and Pinball Wizard. Genius. Mike was (might still be) part of a band called King Size. Elvis covers, and everyone is big and tall like him (iirc he is 7 ft 1 in).
His collaboration with Post Modern Jukebox on Blink 182s "All the Small Things" is absolutely phenomenal! Scott's arrangement is a slower, more emotional and Puddles just hits it out of the park!
listen to his sound of silence.....also i had a pity party for you truncated tresses..... not really pity but i wanted to acknowledge the trim... anyone with your glorious hair would love it and deserve a comment.....thanks for Morgan, Puddles and Postmodern
This man stabs you with amazing vibratos and clarity, then softly helps you back up. Best fuckin singer in the "mainstream" (making it to major television but not selling out to pop radio to bring us stuff like this).
Went to a Puddles Pity Party show here in Pensacola right before the Rona hit.... very very enjoyable show. He's an awesome singer and puts such a fun twist on things.
YAY! You finally got to experience the voice we all love! His cover of the Pixie’s ‘Where is my Mind’ is a masterpiece! Please check it out. Thanks Beth!
I had the pleasure of seeing him live 2yrs ago. His stage presence and the sound were perfect. Before the show he took the time to shake the hand of every person in the audience.
I love not only his voice and persona, but that when he sings you can hear every word, unlike Lorde. Personally I like what he does as Puddles better than when he sings as Mike. If aren't familiar with his work I recommend his cover of Wicked Game and also Space Oddity. Also the videos of his stage shows
Thank you for reacting to Puddles! I can't wait for you to react to his "Chandelier" cover; I'm sure you'll love it. Hope you read this message. Cheers

Hello Beth I saw your reaction to Puddles Pity Party. I saw his version of Sound of Silence I truly was amazed at his voice. Please do a Rection on his version please, thank you. I like your reactions and I like watching your videos.
The man is using a theatrical "prop" dressing as a clown BUT he has the voice to back it up. I wouldn't call him a crossover artist, as Mario Lanza was, but he uses a classical baritone technique adjusted down for the pop medium. Totally agree that he has wonderful open vowels (ahs and ohs). And one more point here Beth. You and Morgan James discussed discrimination against women during your last podcast. There is also a certain amount of "ageism." Notice how old this man is. It may not be so apparent because of the clown makeup. Is that by design? He is 55 as of this year, 2020. He was able to go on AGT and avoid the standard Simon Cowell interogatories: "How old are you?" and then "Why are you here?" because of the silent clown persona. Pop music is always looking for the next new, young star. And the younger the better it seems these days. If a singer stays healthy and has a good technique they can sing well into old age (I'm 60 BTW). Listen (and try not to cry) to Tony Bennet singing "Fly Me to the Moon" a couple of weeks ago, from his home, at 92 (edit almost 94!) years old: ruclips.net/video/JTdKZllVqpw/видео.html

I recommend Ben Caplan, lullaby. I would love to see what you think. By the way, I love my puddles. I have been hooked on the clown since the first time I listened to him.
He's always reminded me of Tom Jones. I got to see Puddles live and I said to my brother that his diction is perfect, even when he sang in Spanish. Great show btw. Check out ruclips.net/video/co8RMoVITgw/видео.html He came to Chicago and did this on Ch9 WGN. The Tom Jones comparison is especially appropriate here. Fun stuff!

Puddles🥳♥️
Yes, thank you, puddle. Much ❤️ to you.

I’m glad you cover this! A hidden Gem! He does an excellent “Mad World” with Haley Reinhardt
I agree. His "Mad World" duet with Haley Reinhart is one of the most delightful things I've ever seen. ruclips.net/video/aVevvbFNKiY/видео.html 😋
When Beth said how shw would look beside him, that Mad World cover instantly sprang to my mind.
Christoph Stahl haha, right, Haley is tiny too!

Oohh what a song and what a voice!
It took me like a month to stop having it on my mind xD
He was praised on the America Got Talent tv show.
Very open voice. Classical yet eclectic. As this song clearly represents. I truly wish more artists what do this. True acapella with a flair.

One of the best live acts I've ever seen! He totally screwed with me because I was front row. I can't wait to see him again.
I would/will pay my hard earned money to take in his live show...

@@martycech5844 You're in luck, because he's not an expensive artist at all. Front row can be as low as $45.
Wasnt this dude on AGT doing Chandelier by SIA?
Yup!
He was
Yeah, he also did this one on AGT, but when he did the walk-off ending, they thought it was a reaction to Simon buzzing him.
Yes he was. He should have won the whole competition too but AGT doesn't get Puddles.
i'm positive he was also on BGT too
Yep.. Robyn Adele Anderson as background vocal..She would deserve a react.
my favorite : Careless Whisper - Vintage 1930's Jazz Wham! Cover feat. Robyn Adele Anderson & Dave Koz

The klezmer version of Talk Dirty with the Yiddish rap is also a good one with her.

Puddles is the best live performance I've ever seen. He also comes out and shakes the whole audiences hand before the show
Check out his "smoosh-ups" (his term) of Pinball Wizard and Folsom Prison Blues. There are 2 versions, both amazing.
I saw puddles last year at the Kennedy center. He was amazing.
Saw him live a couple years ago in Boston, he puts on a fun, funny show!
I think I was at the same show. I saw him in Providence too. He's amazing live.
oftcrash I had to look it up, it was Nov 2017 at the Wilbur Theater, such a good show

Oliver Buenaflor hopefully he’ll be able to do live shows again one of these days. Are you in the US?
Thank you Beth for explaining to casual listeners what a grand skill that Puddles shares to the masses to enjoy.
His version of "Hallelujah" is absolutely sublime. ❤️
I love the two ladies looking as disinterested as possible:) they are absolute gems on their own :)
