Love Mayim! I'm having my 10 year old daughter (who struggles with perfectionism) watch this as part of her homeschooling. 💚 So refreshing to have as someone to look up to!
Mary: Let me straighten your tie. Sheldon: No, no, no, it's all right. It's supposed to be a little asymmetrical. Apparently, a small flaw somehow improves it. Mary: I can see that. Sometimes it's the imperfect stuff that makes things perfect.
I am very impressed with you open and honesty you bring to the internet. I grew up watching you and enjoy seeing the kind compationate woman you are today.
I will just quote Leonard: "Ring the bells that still ring, forget your perfect offering. There is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in." :)
Mayim, you are so real and open about your flaws. It makes me feel I am not alone. I know I am much younger to you and haven't even faced most of the situations you talk about yet I relate so much. Thank you for existing.
You actually brought tears to my eyes. My father called me a “real dud” because I failed at something one time. Thankyou for helping me know it’s ok to make mistakes.❤️
I grew up with the learning of never good enough....so with that I've had to undo all of it to realize I'm plenty good enough just as I am Which is why my screen name is Perfectly Imperfect 💞
Been crying all morning because I feel so overwhelmed but watching this video just made my day. I can't stop smiling for 6 minutes and 40 seconds. I love your rational and your positivity! I love you Mayim! More videos please...
Your message perfectly hits the mark, Mayim! It really resonated with me. We can still be 100% engaged in a task or activity without expecting absolute perfection. I’ve struggled, at times, with the notion of working with “no room for error”, yet the errors in our ways help us to learn, reinvent and drive forward! It’s okay for me to not be a perfect husband, father, employee and musician. All that I can do is to enjoy the process of learning and improving each and every day! Thanks so much, Scott
This is going to be one of those videos I repeatedly watch. I was raised in a very perfectionistic household. It really caused me to have a much more perfectionistic nature. Thank you for this video!
I recently read a definition that perfect means “ whole or complete”. This has helped me to realize that I also don’t have to “do it perfectly” or be perfect because I am a work in progress - I’m not complete yet! Thank you for sharing this beautiful idea and video, it is very needed by all of us and very inspiring to be kinder to ourselves and get stuff done. I love the humorous way you do these videos on your channel, and make them real. You are the best! A million “thumbs up” to you!
I am real glad that you embrace imperfection. That is exactly why I genuinely appreciate you, Mayim, as a person, over the character of Blossom! I never cared much for Blossom since she is so conceited & self-righteous. A couple of years ago, my friend told me that she appreciates you. I gradually then began to separate you and Blossom. I especially appreciate your down-to-earth authenticity and honest thoughts 💭 and feelings. 😀
As a recovering perfectionist, I find a great deal of comfort in your eloquent defense of imperfection. I hope I can finally start embracing imperfection in my life and start saving myself plenty of unnecessary grief. 29.5 years of perfectionism is 29.5 years too many, anyway. Thank you, Mayim. #AffectionForImperfection
LOVE this!! I am not perfect and I don't want to be because that is what makes me different and I value differences in people. I think it makes life interesting.
Thank you for posting this today! It's exactly what I needed to hear! If you want proof that the universe leans toward chaos, come visit the home of someone suffering from depression. Today I will try to remember progress not perfection.
You are the inspirational Queen 👸🏻! I’ve always thought I’m too imperfect and I began to have low self-esteem. Mayim, you’ve truly opened my eyes 👀 and I’m so grateful for that. I know I won’t be alone because there’ll be so many girls and women who will appreciate you for being truly inspiring. 🙂🦋✨
I definitely needed this today. I’m quite worried I’ll mess up during my orchestra concert today, but I need to move on and keep going even if I play a note as a sharp instead of a natural. Thanks for the message Mayim!
I'm one of those people who wants to be perfect in just about everything I set out to do. And when I make a mistake, it's highly likely that I'll beat myself up over it. But after watching this video and listening to what my sister has told me, I'm learning that it's okay to be imperfect.
Mayim you are such a kind person ! you played so well in MacGyver ! what a lightening to see the name BIALIK in the beginning of an episode . I love neuroscience too !! it gives me pleasure to learn it like learning Torah , because it is the נפלאות הבורא the wonder things that Hache created . Shabbat Shalom and Love from ISRAEL .
Thank you for this video Mayim. Believe it or not, you just taught me something about myself that I couldn't figure out for the last 20 years. That something is the fact that, when I had to face a new challenge, experience or situation, if I didn't feel like coming out of it victorious, I would quit or just wouldn't do it. I was so afraid to fail, to disappoint my people, to be embarrassed about my performance... Thank you for putting in words my biggest flaw. Thank you for making me realise that acknowledging those flaws is the key to success, and the greatest pressure relief. You just changed somebody's life with this video Mayim. I'll be forever grateful. Love from Spain.
I know RUclips provides me with the illusion of connection and intimacy, but you, lady, have helped me through a dark place. I didn’t even watch BBT! But the things you’re going through, I’m going through. And so few 40-somethings talk like this, like me, like you. So thank you!!! (Not a crazy stalker btw, but loved you since you were THE Cece Bloom!)
Love this! As they say in grad school: the best dissertation is a finished dissertation. And of course: don’t let the perfect get in the way of the good. Thanks for the reminder, Mayim!
Personally, for me having to deal with my imperfections is NEVER really easy and, because of my mental illness, it becomes a difficult matter just about everyday. I also think that the things that I have not been able to achieve at a certain point, like not getting enough college education and having a steady job, has been an example of my imperfection. I guess I just learned to hate something like those in the end anyway.
Yes, I also learnt the hard way that punishing myself for every tiny mistake I make. I hated myself for every word and every move, feeling I am not enough.
I love imperfect celebrities. You're doing a real favor to the sisterhood by being real and not setting an impossible example to follow. I love you Mayim!!
I sat here thinking you will help sooo many people with this video. I even thought of people to share it with. Then I realised, you have just helped me as well. I'm worth it too. Thankyou 💗💗💗💗💗
Unfortunate that your message is SO important in our culture. But THANK YOU for the great way you explain the pro's and con's AND that not only is perfection unattainable but it is not a worthwhile goal. I have been obsessed about my appearance my WHOLE life. I hide the hatred/shame I feel about my physical attributes because I'm ashamed of feeling ashamed - how chaotic is THAT? So, Mayim, I am going to take your message with me and keep it playing in my head while out in the world. Just thinking about giving myself permission to be ordinary looking sounds incredible, light, relieving. All that weight gone so I can expend my energy on more interesting/productive things. Thank you! You're a gift to the world. Keep on sharing!
Dr. Bialik: Love what you are doing with your site. First off, it's nice to have a celebrity not spewing politics at me. Secondly, you are doing good things for people. Your a good person and I'm willing to bet you'll win a Lifetime Achievement award for something someday.
Hello Ms. Bialik, I have admired your work and your intelligence for some time. When I viewed this video, I just had to reach out to let you know my appreciation. The concept of acceptance (of not being perfect) does truly free a person to get things done and be open for the next adventure. So many people tie themselves up in self-judgement about the minutest details that they miss the chance to enjoy their day. It is refreshing to know that someone of your stature and with your level of accomplishments is so down to earth. Please keep sharing your light and joy with the world. It will be a benefit for all of us. Best regards and ROCK ON, Rocky Heuft
I just realized i might be a perfection freak. Just watching you describe how not to focus too much in things getting done or losing stuff... i felt so anxious!. I actually admire people who has the skill to let go. I have so much to learn. 🙌😊
You remind me so much of my therapist. You are insightful in a way not many people are. Its truly a gift! Also the cat seriously made the video 1000x better I'm obsessed. Anyway, thanks for doing what you do!
Love when cats make an appearance! And thank you for this video, it’s been an answer to my prayers! I need to tweak my life a bit, and this video made me aware of that! Thanks for the awareness I have been lacking for too long, and tips to go about living life with imperfections!
I complemented you on something some people would see as less than perfect on another video and thanked you because it's nice to see a celebrity embracing imperfection because it made me accept myself more
I couldn't enjoy your videos more. Thank you for planting of seed of respecting yourself for who you are in younger generations. That means a lot. As you said in one of the previous videos, now we have the millennials, who are too demanding to themselves, and maybe your attitude can help them to take it easier.
Im an imperfect perfectionist and my life is so hard. OMG u are so right!!!!!!! I promise I will write down everything you said and try to apply to my everyday life. Thank you Mayim 😘
Hey Mayim, I know this is not exactly a comment for this video, but I just took my time off to binge the entire seasons of The Big Bang Theory, and man you were stellar. I literally fell in love with your character and now I doubt I suffer from 'The Fowler fictophilia' !. Any man would be happy to have a loving girl friend like Amy and really thank you from the bottom of my heart for playing the character cause you did more than justice to the character and the show. A true fan of you and Amy forever !
I just stumbled across your channel today, and my first thought was woah, that's really Blossom there.!! This reminds me of the episodes where you used to record monologues and talk to us on your television show as a child! I love the fact that your real life seems to mirror the character that you played as Blossom!❤❤ You're such an inspiration to watch!
I would LOVE to have an actual conversation with you, about ANYTHING really!! I think that you are not only brilliant-which is obvious, but when I met you at one of those kid's movie premieres, walking next to you and your boys on the carpet I expressed that I admire you and what was your reply? You were REAL. And invited me to talk to you. You are an AMAZING person, and I was witness to your absolute DEVOTION to your children. ❤
Oh my! I definitely suffer from the need for perfection and I end up not doing things at all because I don’t think that I can do them perfect enough. I then get depressed because I feel so unaccomplished when I end up not doing the things🤦♀️ Thanks for this video!
You're right. If you wait to do something until you can do it perfectly with ZERO flaws, nothing would ever get done. So that's why, even though my attempts so far are not perfect, I dove into making simple Tarot card review videos. There's no editing because I can't edit, it's all in one take, and I'm slowly becoming accustomed to seeing myself on camera. In time, my videos will improve; I have ideas I'd like to manifest. But I realized that I couldn't just sit on the concept; I had to DO it - no matter how imperfectly. I was listening to Jonathan Haidt talk about how protecting kids from making mistakes does not serve them well. Bubble-wrapping them is a disservice; they need to learn how to deal with imperfections and mistakes and all that stuff, to basically toughen them up, teach them resourcefulness, and challenge them as they learn from making mistakes. And this really never stops all though life, does it?? :)
Mayim can we please have MORE of that? Hearing these words was such a relief. We are living in a success and perfection oriented culture to the degree like never before. It is so unnatural and gives back nothing but stress. I was longing to embrace a new vision. #affectionforimperfection yay
P.S. I love your point that you get nothing done when aiming for perfection. That is exactly true with the perfectionist in me, who evokes procrastination. In the past year, an important lesson I grasped was to embrace optimization as a human being and let go of the desperation to be perfect!
Thank you Mayim. This gentle reminder is just what I needed to hear. BTW, I am a hairdresser with completely imperfect hair. Just so long as it is clean and out of my face, I am okay with however it decides to be on any given day. Your hair is great. On to the rest of our day!
This is a really enlightening video on a topic I'm currently grappling with. I think you're correct. Changing my mindset and implementing this won't be easy for me but I think perfectionism, while having some benefits, has also definitely been detrimental in my life. I've liked this video so I can easily find it again and re-watch it as needed. Thanks Mayim!
Mayim with all the love and respect your sovereign divinity deserves. In all of creation I've found only one flaw, man's idea or perfect. Keeping faith in my maker tells me that if its creation falls short of perfect to question my sight. Not its creations perfection.
Blast from the past, but you were my TA for a neuroscience class I took at UCLA back in 2001! I never mustered up the courage to say hello and ask for an autograph. I figured you were so over the whole Blossom phase by then. Anyway, hello!! And you’re awesome!
As someone with an eating disorder, I really appreciated this video. I had to learn that 'perfection' isn't a real thing and to be honest you are one of the persons who taught me, Mayim. Your book Girling Up has made me realize I wasn't eating well. Perfection isn't real. It's okay to have flaws. Well, I can't ramble on forever. Lots of love from the Netherlands, Mayim! 💕 #affectionforimperfection
My ex was raised to believe that you should only do something if you can get it perfect. Needless to say, she's a tortured soul, and I've got the kids. In the IT world, where I once resided, the idea of good enough was important, as the lifecycle of software and hardware, inherently allowed changes and fixes along the way. As long as the core functions were provided for, you now had a framework/starting point for improvements. And your hair is just fine.
Hi, Mayim! I'm late to the party with finding your awesome videos but am so happy I did. This one came to mind on my drive into work as I realized I forgot to put earrings in this morning ... I know, silly (stupid) issue - not even a 1st world problem. But, to be honest, there have been days something small like this has bothered me and set the tone for a really bad day. So, I was very excited when my second realization was "I'm not perfect and this isn't a big deal", which is mostly because you recently reminded me of this. So, thank you! And I hope you have an AMAZING day!
Thank you Mayim for making this video. Your videos instantly cheer me up no matter how bad my day is going 😅 I really needed this video at this very moment. Please don’t ever stop making these videos ~ love from a confused tween

Young people should be around many different generations...each have lessons on life...just tweak the lesson to your life.
You actually brought tears to my eyes. My father called me a “real dud” because I failed at something one time. Thankyou for helping me know it’s ok to make mistakes.❤️
Mistakes are how you learn.
I like how it aligns with TBBT's final season of super asymetry. Like amy said: "maybe it is perfect the way it is." Keep up the good work Mayim!

MAYIM HAS A KITTY! Another reason (of many!) to love her!
Thanks so much,

Perfection: is the belief that we can act, look and behave perfectly so we can minimize criticism, judgment and blame.

Mayim Bialik your a brilliant, amazing, magnificent woman.
P.S. I love your point that you get nothing done when aiming for perfection. That is exactly true with the perfectionist in me, who evokes procrastination.
In the past year, an important lesson I grasped was to embrace optimization as a human being and let go of the desperation to be perfect!
This is why I love Mayim she's sweet, funny talented and hilarious and she's Brilliant.
Come on Mayim! Nobody is perfect. Thanks God! We are unique and totally imperfects🤗 I think that makes the difference! I love being unique😊 don't you?
Why isn’t this trending? this should be trending
I think you are so smart and charming! Love your content, keep it coming!
Hey! Just wanted to say I saw you in the IBM commercial! Keep doing what you're doing ✊
I think your gorgeous and wonderful! DON'T EVER stop being you.
Thank you Mayim. This gentle reminder is just what I needed to hear. BTW, I am a hairdresser with completely imperfect hair. Just so long as it is clean and out of my face, I am okay with however it decides to be on any given day. Your hair is great. On to the rest of our day!
Had one of those aha moments. "Ohh that is why I can't get anything done." Thank you so much for sharing your journey.
Amen! I try to make sure my tempo beat and rhythm and background/hiss noise is perfect, but now after watching this, I'm like, "I'm not perfect!" :)

I love you Mayim. Some of us believe all these things occur because of the fall of man, basically sin.
Please don’t ever stop making these videos ~ love from a confused tween
mayim please do a ted talk. i absolutely adore these kinds of videos, and your point of views are so interesting. LOVE YOU
Don't u think its a kind of promotion video...
Striving for perfection promotes great pride if you have the strength to see it through. Also a great way to battle depression.
Mayim you have and will always be loved from any Blossom fans to BBT fans alike
You help so much and your not imperfect your perfect in every way
Who has time for perfection? Definitely not me 😅
