  • In the video we take the 7.3 Powerstroke Bronco on one tons to Rausch Creek offroad park for a trial by fire. This adventure was during the 2021 MEB East Coast Bronco Roundup, and for being a brand new build, there really wasn't much of the new build blues. The rig really impressed me on a variety of trails ranging from green to black.

    Dude, awesome build. I watched the one of you explaining all that you did with the chassis and I'm highly impressed. I'm currently combining an 82 with an 88 f-250. Nice using all ford stuff. One makes it super simple and easy to diagnose, you know, makes it easy on the next guy that ends up with it. I'm blown away on how well it works. Don't blow a head gasket. Great work.

      I really appreciate it Corey! It does make it easy to get parts for, and for the most part it all goes together pretty easily. But don’t worry, there won’t be a next guy getting it any time soon. As for the head gaskets, I’ll try my best to keep them in one piece!

    Bronco is badass! Thanks for no rap! But,I'd rather hear that 7.3 and the natural sounds of wheeling than music.

    @ Bock’s Garage, Hey man, new subscriber here. Do you have a video showing how you did your SAS? I have a 1994 myself that I want to swap in a kingpin 60. Thanks!

      I appreciate the sub! I’ve wheeled a TTB Bronco for years, and I will say that a SAS is the way to go if you plan to use it. As for details, I left a bunch on your comment on my next video.

    My question on all this is the weight of the 7.3 and trans. How do you feel the extra weight has affected the setup overall?

    • @BocksGarage
      @BocksGarage  2 года назад +1

      This is a hard question and I've been pondering it all morning. First off, you can tell this is a heavy rig when wheeling it. It also doesn't help that each beadlock/tire combo weighs in at 208 lbs a piece. I think the result is that I just need a ton of traction with the ground. Luckily I can air down really low (3-5 PSI typically) with the beadlocks and get a huge footprint. However, that wasn't enough. I ended up putting an ARB locker in the front and that helped tremendously, and you can see that in some of my newer wheeling videos. The traction helps me not need to bounce around and throttle into things as much, which is good because with all the weight it'd result in carnage. Everytime I take the truck out it impresses me though and keeps up with much lighter vehicles, but that's also tricky. It does well, so I keep pushing it harder to see what else it can do, and especially have been playing hard in the rocks. This has lead to me just now installing an ARB in the rear, and 5.38 gears front and rear. This should give me maximum traction, and also enable me to crawl around right off of idle. I think that's the ticket for dealing with all the weight.

      @@BocksGarage this is great info. Got an 87 that I’ve been pondering the idea because I have a 2003 7.3 parts truck that runs and drives. Given if the dash is the right size would make a quick swap to the frame and use of body lifts should get it over the turbo from why I’ve seen on other builds.
      I just keep wondering about weight because it’s essentially putting 2 small blocks over the front wheels in a short vehicle.
      My case wouldn’t see a lot of rock climbing, but out in the woods on logging roads and around lakes and such “live in northern maine with tons of log roads and beaten paths”

    • @BocksGarage
      @BocksGarage  2 года назад

      @@nikkicartee879 I've seen people swap the dashes out. It's probably a bit of work, but I'm sure very doable. And for the turbo, I was able to clear my KC-38R and a 4 inch SD downpipe just by using new body mounts and "massaging" the bottom of the firewall with a 10lb sledge hammer.
      Also, with considerations to the weight, I swapped to springs that could handle it. If you reuse the ones from your donor, I think you'd be good. You'd also swap to the 8 lug axles right?
      But with that sort of usage, I don't foresee you having any issues. I'd just recommend good tires and a good LSD in the rear. When I shot this video, all the Bronco had was a worn out factory Ford limited slip in the rear, and an open diff up front, and it went through all sorts intense spots.

    • @nikkicartee879
      @nikkicartee879 2 года назад +1

      @@BocksGarage I’d like to stick with the factory TTB and 8.8 if possible. Would think they’d both be able to handle a stock 7.3. And just hood pads and rotors should help with the weight.
      I know I don’t plan on going as high a lift as you did. Maybe a 4” suspension and 2” body with 35s more and likely
      But it’s good to know a worn LSD and open dif was able to do a lot

    • @BocksGarage
      @BocksGarage  2 года назад +1

      @@nikkicartee879 Yeah, I think they could handle a stock 7.3 if you’re not too hard on it. Only thing I’d consider is trying to go with a heavy set of springs up front to try and handle all that extra weight. I wonder if they make lift springs that are beefy for like plowing and such.
