The Lake Poets aka Martin Longstaff performs 'Shipyards' at Durham Cathedral. Supporting The Futureheads as part of Durham Streets of Summer Festival 2012
On a river where they used to build the boats By the harbour wall the place you loved the most I can see you there but all you know I'll be there soon All your life you worked your fingers to the bone You worked hard for every little thing you owned But you gave away for yours as if you'd known They will call and out Call and out But if you could see me now But if you could see me now I hope that I'm making you proud I hope that I'm making you proud Like a ship you built you're long gone from the coast Where you are and where we go we'll never know On a ship you built that's where I see you most If your smile and I But if you could see me now I hope that I am making you proud Proud
While most people associate this song with SAFC this made me think of my granpa. Sunderland 'til I die was a very nice series but this song is great alone.
I heard a snippet of this haunting song during BBC news at six on 6/12/17. In the background it played, on a piece about Sunderland bidding for city of culture in 2021. I searched the internet with the little lyrics I could hear, as it played and bowed out, over 5 minutes. Eventually after trawling the internet, it led me here. Beautiful song. Heartfelt lyrics and a wonderful singer too. Thank you The Lake Poets, AKA Martin Longstaff. You've gained another fan. I will be researching your music and buying it too.
He's playing the Cluny soon we have tickets..... I'll be in bits when he sings this song thinking of my family men all served their time in the yards father grandfather uncles..... Hard men working hard jobs.... a life sentence!
"Skip intro" Nah your alright Netflix
HAHAHA yea exactly
Makes me cry with pride up here in North Scotland
I've watched 5 episodes of the Netflix Suderland Til I Die so far
And have not skipped one intro
They can't even imagine how much it resonates not only in the North East of the UK, but in any given industrial county in the EU.
Sunderland till I die 🔴⚪️🔴⚪️

I can see you there but all you know
I'll be there soon
All your life you worked your fingers to the bone
You worked hard for every little thing you owned
But you gave away for yours as if you'd known
They will call and out
Call and out
But if you could see me now
But if you could see me now
I hope that I'm making you proud
I hope that I'm making you proud
Like a ship you built you're long gone from the coast
Where you are and where we go we'll never know
On a ship you built that's where I see you most
If your smile and I
But if you could see me now
I hope that I am making you proud
Proud
"They will be calling out, calling out" not called and out.
Ha'way the lads and lasses of Sunderland!

Same here Doreen, Im from the North West - big shipyard town Barrow. This song makes me think of family members long served but no longer with us.
In the coming days the view count on this vid will rocket because of Netflix’s

Sunderland till I die kind of made sad for the people who work for the club. Players suck though.
