Hi I was wondering if your old system that collapsed was a peat moss system? Mine has collapsed and I’m looking for a new setup. Aerator has been mentioned. Would you mind me asking what kind of a price tag I’m looking at?
Howdy! My old system was a single steel tank that gravity drained to an open ended leech field. The tank rusted out after about 30 years and the old style system was no longer allowed so I had to upgrade to current code. Current system is a 900 gallon primary black water tank that gravity flows into a 900 gallon grey water tank which then pumps the water through sprinklers onto my lawn. Both new tanks are concrete. I paid about $5000 for the whole installation including 400 feet of underground pipe and three sprinklers. I probably could have paid less but when the septic system dies two weeks before Christmas you're over a barrel. It's been pretty good but you really need to have at least the grey tank pumped out annually to keep the debris from getting into the sprinkler pump. Best bet is to check with your local sanitarian to ensure your replacement is up to current local codes. Otherwise, if you sell the house, there can be questions about how it was done. Good luck!
As someone else said if this happens again get the rebuild kit and look up a video on doing a rebuild on the pump. It is really pretty simple and will save you a bunch of money.
Did this fix last very long? I think sometimes think they die when the outlet pipe holes gets plugged with sludge and create back pressure on the pump.
Thanks for reminding me. I need to do this again. So far it's been fine. Though even without cleaning it lasted at least 5 years so it's going to be a while before I know if it's worth spending the effort.

Rather than spend $400 to replace the motor, simply open it up and install the diaphragm rebuild kit for $67. You’re video on this 15 minute process.

Purchased a camp, never had a septic tank. I looked at the pump cause power was off... wow that filter hadnt been serviced in years by previous owner

What turns the Aerator on and off? Does it stay on 24 hours a day?
It does run 24x7.
I checked my aerator pump and the filter was almost as bad as yours. I blew it out with the air hose and put it back in service.
