    Now that Sigma and Tamron have dipped their toes into the Canon RF mount, what do you think? Are you bummed they didn't go head first into full frame? Are you an APSC shooter that is excited about these new lenses? Tell me about it below!

    I have an old APSC Canon (EOS 600D), but I was considering R5 Mark II, so its not all that good news.
    I think the RF mount has huge computational and data requirements, considering that latest bodies force autofocus changes in miliseconds, plus of course, the distrortion correction and all.
    Its not 1990's and lens is not a piece of glass anymore.
    Already we saw how bodies launched before June 2024, can't use the autofocus ring on those 2 RF lenses for photos.
    Considering this, maybe Canon has a point, trying to maintain a quality experience or so. I do hope Sigma and Tamron manage some good FF lenses.

      It would be nice to see third party full frame lenses.

    I think Canon will allow full frame lenses from Sigma and Tamron in order to maintain their market share. Lumix will pull a significant amount of potential Canon buyers who are fed up with high priced glass.

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  7 месяцев назад

      You think LUMIX will capture that much business?

    • @Samarth916
      @Samarth916 2 месяца назад

      Global market is a different matter. Lumix is almost non-existent in Indian professional photography world, for example. Sad truth about business world is, sometimes performance doesn't matter, marketing matters.
      See R5 Mark II, you think Lumix will make a body as good as it?

    aren't you forgetting the crop factor? so f/1.4 on XT20 (with 1.53x crop) is equivalent to f/2.15 on a full frame at least as far as depth of field/bokeh is concerned?

    • @JohnScarrott
      @JohnScarrott 7 месяцев назад

      A 50mm lens is a 50mm lens. The crop factor does not make it 75mm. Aperture, expressed as f/x is not changed since f is not changed.
      The only effect the crop factor has is to give you an angle of view on your crop sensor that would be roughly equivalent to that of a 75mm on a full frame sensor.

    • @Mr.Zen_73
      @Mr.Zen_73 7 месяцев назад

      @@JohnScarrott It will affect the depth of field/bokeh compared to full frame. The f/1.4 lens on the Fuji aps-c will have the equivalent depth of field as f/2.1 on a full frame camera.

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  7 месяцев назад +1

      I mention this in the video (that depth of field isn’t the same).

    as a r7 possessor i was thrilled and after reading tamron and sigma press release and intentions i was wtf , can get similar ones for ef, where are the needed ones ,100-300 f4 not to expensive but much better with the noisy apsc than 5.6 not very good ef lens ,only alternative on rf or ef mount is directly 2.8 for 12000 € . and it seems reading the press release that that is the only ones they are authorised to make.
    thanks canon for nothing ,mothballing my r7 again for my sony and pentax , and i love that AF so much butlose far too much details with the noise. 😭

      @@KevinDeal thanks for the response. I currently have the R6mk2 and i find it with the 28mm pancake, just a little bit too big for travel and street with 2 children hanging off me. Would i be disappointed at the af with the fuji? Would stepping up to a xt-5 be any better? or just suck it up and use my r6mk2? curious on your take!

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  7 месяцев назад +1

      @@RWAquariumPages I think going out and dropping a ton of money on an XT5 then slapping a Fuji lens on there wouldn't be a huge size difference vs your R6MKII with the 28mm. Marginal gains at best. The XT30 with a Fuji pancake would be noticeable. I personally just went out and got the X100VI to solve this issue, but that's a really expensive camera that is really hard to find at the moment. But it IS perfect for street and travel.

      @@KevinDeal thanks for the valuable input! if my internet research is correct, the xt-30ii would be like a 100vi with a interchangable lens! let me look into this further. My next trip is in dec but I'd like to get it earlier to play with it and get used to it as I've only used canon for the past 35 years

    First comment here, haha...
    As Canon R6m2 shooter that uses adapter + Tamron SP lens [35mm F.14 , 70-200 G2], and Sigma Art 24-105mm F/4, I am very happy to hear this announcement. My Sigma and Tamron lenses are doing great with R6m2 in terms of IQ! Plus point: the price, the VC/IBIS and the build quality like a tank!
    My comment is, why APSC lenses, Sigma/Tamron, why why??? Why not go with FF as first step?
    And I am looking forward for SP and Art lineups from Tamron and Sigma, not the regular non-SP nor C line.
    Greetings from Jakarta, Kevin!

    Hey Kevin, any reason why these lenses can't be used on an R3/R5 set to APS-C 1.6x cropped mode?

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  7 месяцев назад +1

      The mount size is the same. So you should be able to use it with your full frame cameras. You will just be throwing away a lot of pixels.

    • @JohnScarrott
      @JohnScarrott 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@KevinDeal ah great and yeah, it drops from 24MP to 9.3MP. Maybe for one or two lenses that are only available in APS-C rather than buy an RF APS-C body just to get the cheaper lenses it wouldn't be so bad an idea for some people already on FF?. I just did some full Moon shots at APS-C crop as I'd have had to crop anyway, my R3 looking through my 9.25" telescope. I couldn't tell the difference between images using internal crop or software crop.

      You technically can use it on your R8 on 1.6 crop mode. But it will make your camera like an 8 megapixel camera.
