At my job someone left a wallet but nobody did anything I was bored so I decided to look thru the wallet saw the ID looked up the person & address got some phone numbers from Google texted them one of them ended up being the dudes mom so she told me he was happy I had contacted them going out of my way.
You, young man, are totally awesome. I can't even imagine the surprise and immense relief the owner must have felt getting that back. Wow. Thank you for having that level of integrity.
I’m not trying to be that negative guy but this literally requires the most basic level of human decency and if he didn’t return it that would just make him a bad person. I don’t think that doing something as basic as not stealing is actually worth praising. It’s just the right thing to do.
I agree. There are, however, some legal technicalities that can cause doing a good deed in the USA to backfire. If he had been pulled over while bringing the purse to the woman's house he could have been arrested for stealing and he has no alibi of his intentions. I know it's a long shot but in the back of his mind that guy was hoping that he didn't get stopped by police until he no longer had possession of the missing purse.

In Finland we have a law that gives the finder a 10% finders fee of the value of found goods, but you have to take it to a police station to be eligible for the finders fee because the police will collect the fee from the owner for you. The don't get their stuff back unless they pay.

I was once at this old lady's yard sale and found over $1k in a wallet that was for sale. At first I looked around for hidden cameras thinking it was a prank. I live in Hollywood, California. I found some tourist wallet on the street. I mailed it back to Georgia (his state) his wife called me to "thank me." It cost me $14 bucks to mail it. He didnt have to go to DMV or call the credit cards companies to replace the cards. It actually arrived before he got back. Its doesnt take a lot of effort to be a good person.
It's reassuring to know that decency, honesty and doing the right thing, is something that is still being taught these days. I tried to tell her there was no need but I could tell she really wanted me to have it. I will take my family out to dinner. It's a great feeling to do the right thing.
