- From the Red Skelton Hour in 1966.
Welcome! These clips are from a large video collection that is now being converted from VHS/Beta to digital many from the 70's, 80's and 90's. There is some viewing quality loss from the original video source due to the age of the tapes, but the performances are preserved and still a joy to view. I'm finding many lost performances from vintage R&B, Soul, Pop, Broadway, Cabaret and other performances. This channel will be the Ed Sullivan channel for the digital generation, something for everyone to enjoy. Many of the performances will be seen for the first time since they were originally televised. I will be adding many musical performances from a variety of sources that I hope you will enjoy. Please hit the like button.
Nobody writes lyrics this great anymore. What a beautiful song.
That is completely untrue. You just aren't listening anymore.
@@ohpamoh No, it is the truth.
@@ohpamoh This has been called the most literate song ever written. Today's music is for badly educated Yanks who believe in a killer flu and have Third World corrupt elections and don't notice.
@@ohpamoh Who writes this poetically and intelligently in todays age? I would say Dylan is his equal lyrically but in a very different way. "I have squandered my resistance for a pocket full of mumbles... such are promises..." - Eminem definitely shoots some pretty great lyrics but its just not crafted like the troubadors of the 60s and early 70s.
Look up Passenger. His music comes the closest. Different, but he not only writes songs that can evoke real feelings, but can also cover S&G well.
Two of the greatest modern traveling troubadours to ever grace the music world. Hands down. Musicians are such great reminders of the the Divine Creator. Mere random chance does not, nor ever could, produce such poetic beauty. Deo Gratias.
These words:
Like a poem poorly written,
We are verses out of rhythm,
Couplets out of rhyme,
In syncopated time.
Powerful.
Gets Better every time I Hear it ,Lucky to be Blessed with Simon & Garfunkel ...
Simon is truly a poet. I love the way S&G dressed like two college boys
in their early years.
This song brings tears to my eyes.
So sensitive.
This is my favorite Paul Simon song. I read somewhere that he did not like this song. This takes me back to when I was a teenager and listened to the Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme album. I have no idea how I had that album, I had no money and I am CERTAIN that my drunken ass step-father would not have allowed my mother to buy it for me.
The last few words ..quite a crash to the simplicity and beauty of the leading up
@@greenbeagle13 he was on Bob Costas later and hinted he wasn't a big fan of this one and by the way ( feelin groovy ).....59 th st. Bridge song
@@greenbeagle13Perhaps an angel gave it to you. You never know.
Artie looks like I do when the car salesman comes back from "meeting" with his manager....
Rich Unkel 🤣🤣🤣🤣
OMG.... I can't stop laughing at this comment for some reason. Covid cabin fever brought me here😜
@@rebeccahelen502 I'm thankful that you see it as I see it lol
Agreed....this comment is classic....Take a bow, Rich....
@@AlanStransman thank you very much sir... You're a gentleman and a scholar
Wow, wasn't Paul a handsome young man too. You aren't the only handsome one Artie, hon. Love this of them and love this version of the dangling conversation. Gorgeous.
So young, fresh and handsome. Talented young men. Loved them then and love them the same today.
what a time to be alive i was 13 and the new music was coming out every week non-stop. can't be replaced with anything but memories. a sweet time.
I turn 69 tomorrow...I hear you Dr. Frenier
@@Maclaren415 yup -68 in june. had given up on a lot of music till recently [the last 5 years]. give these girls a listen and find your new favorite band. japanese power metal band LOVEBITES. you ain't seen anything like these ladies ever. 40+ songs of kick your ass. live they are even better. try this from feb 2020 called 'holy war'.ruclips.net/video/bgAxpEpEcno/видео.html
@@Maclaren415 oh happy bday by the way. 29 again ,eh ?
Me too! This song among others is high art!
@Jonathan i'm 69 now and had pretty much given up on new music in the last 20 or so years. all rap crap and hip hop garbage. best thing i've seen in the last 20 years at least is - now don't laugh- japanese all female supergroup LOVEBITES. most amazing band i've seen since forever with 2 of the best guitarists in a long time. take 5 minutes to watch these ladies and be blown away. 3 full cd's and 4 ep's in the last 5 years of nothing but epic songs without a mediocre one to be found. maybe the best live band i've ever seen. here's set the world on fire' live from last year. buckle up : ruclips.net/video/99zsH6iG_6c/видео.html
Wonderful lyrics. i never get tired listening to this song
Possibly the most heart breaking song ever.
Two very young and handsome guys. How gorgeous.
Saw them live the following year ... April 1st1967. West Covina, California. Amazing show ... stellar.
Paul Simon must’ve felt pretty pleased with himself writing this song at the time. He hated it later.
Paul Simon had a nice smooth tenor voice, but with Garfunkel’s higher tones, it made for the perfect harmonization. Garfunkel’s voice was perfect to take over the Soprano lines.
Be kind y'all these geniuses did the best they could with what the studio had to offer I guess. I mean videographer wasn't even a word yet, but their work is timeless.
Yesterday Ive discorvered this song on the live album from 1967 and i cant stop listening. The words and their voices are so beautiful that im almkst crying :") ❤
Wonderful ,the gentle side of the swinging sixties. thanks for the memories.
Beautiful son loved ❤❤
One of the most beautiful songs written. He should do it more now! Also , he should do 'Fakin It' more today, another astounding song.
55 years ago, I was 12 years old. Love these two. March 2021 UK.
It’s brilliant. Not sure how it eluded me before or why it isn’t as widely known as some of their most popular songs.
One of my favourites, since I was a child...so moving
This was around the time Red Skelton began putting more pop/rock performances on his comedy hour...to draw in the younger audiences....well done Red
There was a place in N.Y called Gerdes Folk city where I first heard them in 1966. Although it wasn't popular, their first album completely mesmerized me as a "folkie" , especially "sparrow" and "Bleecker street" ( saddest songs I had ever heard). I couldn't wait to see them live and hear this song from the second album. Bob Dylan has been called the poet laureate of my generation but I disagree. Paul Simon, for nearly 60 years, keeps writing extraordinary music that will continue to be played long after we're gone. As Bob Seger said "today's music ain't got the same soul". Paul's music does.
If you were going to Gerdes, did you ever run across Phil Ochs?
@@PeanutSpring3 Oh yeah, Tom Paxton and Tim Buckley too. Seems to me I saw Leonard Cohen there I think, that was a long time ago.
@@johnrstanclift1656 That is so cool! I wish I could have been around to visit a place like that with so many legendary songwriters just casually playing there
Songwriting genius. Stunning harmonies. Simply genius. Sums up perfectly the 1960s for me.
Still my earliest and best loved song of theirs. We played it on our guitars at Mission beach in San Diego in 1965. The best years of my life. Cut the Philharmonic orchestra behind them and this would be great!
A very rare video, never expected in yt. Thanks to the uploader.
Two Ties that went on to never Tie again ...and conversations left dangling...
Beautiful strings arrangment for one of the best song of the 60's
This performance was recorded on the Red Skelton Show, episode “Eenie Meenie, Minee, Schmo” which aired on September 20, 1966. Mickey Roonie and Martha Raye were also
guest stars. (I have the whole Red Skelton collection).
Cette chanson nous parle et éveille des images en nous...quel talent !
Couched in our indifference
Couched, or cast? I've always wondered because the next line is "like shells upon the shore" which might be cast but wouldn't be couched.
Insanely beautiful
brilliant song
The sadness of these lyrics
This song is just so mesmerizing. It’s the power of pure poetry.
What a gem! Admired these two.
Rare vidéo de cette chanson.
Vidéo agréable à regarder.
Merci beaucoup pour le partage.
I love finding stuff like this. So glad it still exists, thanks for sharing it.
So young..🎵🎹🎶✌✌✌🌻🌻🌻🎶🎵🎼🎤
This appears not lip-synced -- very rare at that time.
Great harmony!
That was truly precious. All of it.
What a gem!! Amazing video!
Thanks for sharing! Was wondering if this clip would ever surface on youtube. Now if only someone would post Punky’s Dilemma from a 68 tv appearance!
I remember Paul talking about a TV performance of that on Fred Astaire’s tv show. Fred actually choreographed a dance he did in shadows behind S&G. If that’s the appearance you’re thinking of, good luck finding it! Fred’s widow keeps an iron grip on any tv footage of him
Beautiful. So poetic
Such a great song. Such a great clip. Thanks for posting it.
Like this. God bless you.
Merci !
Magnifique
So so young
Good performance, although I can’t really hear Garfunkel in the quality of this video.. well I am going deaf after all :)
Great job guys, both Paul and Artie!
Amy Marie,
Artie comes through at 1:20.
scooternak53 aw there it is, beautiful soft voice
scooternak53 thank you
The best!!!!!!!
a big favorite.
"And you read your Emily Dickinson and I my Robert Frost". Trying to see whether this line could get written these days and coming up with a No.
Perfection
It seems Garfunkle is unsure what to do with his arms.
Ahhhh thumbs in pockets......?
nahhhh
This is what happens when the singer doesn't have a microphone.
How did young Paul Simon write such a mature text?
Genius....I'm guessing >150 IQ.
He was so much older then. But he's younger than that now.
He hates this song. Told Bob Costas it's one of the songs he ceased playing decades ago.
I wonder if he wrote it observing older people, but now he’s one of us.
Yeah, he thinks it's immature writing. I can see why he says that, but I don't agree with him, I like it.
Okay.... now that is one BIG guitar! Too bad the prop was probably broken down & destroyed decades ago.... I'd love to have it in my garage.
Nice
Paul looks like a teenager here!
Wow
Artie is only moving his lips to the recording then he does his harmony like it appears on the studio version of this song hope this helps!!
Great stuff , but , who's tie is better ?
And you read your Emily Dickinson
And I my Robert Frost
And we note our place with book markers
That measure what we’ve lost
Est-ce que vous avez en vidéo SPARROW ???
tresska what do you think of art's outfit
Someone please tell me what sincopatic means?
Syncopation is where notes fall ahead of, or after, the beat. Art's harmony line does that right after it is mentioned.
Brilliant! But playback....
Garfunkel looks like spongebob, like if you agree XD
Wouldn't it be fun if this was a quartet and there were two ladies singing it with them on the opposite side of the stage?
Alien being s 😅
that shit was scary
?
What a shame that Art's voice is barely audible. No doubt it's because of the position of the mic, but also because Paul has a large ego, so he makes sure that he stands as if almost pushing Art behind him.
And of course its another classic that Simon doesn’t like and wont perform. He also hates I Am A Rock and Feelin’ Groovy
