The Rival Sons riff child discusses the collaboration with custom builders to make his double-neck dreams come true.
It’s all about the yin and yang … and the heavy guitar tones when Scott Holiday of Rival Sons plugs in and rocks out onstage. This year, the band has got something special cooking: a pair of albums, the just-released Darkfighter and the upcoming Lightbringer, speaking of yin and yang.
On the current Darkfighter tour, Rival Sons recently stopped at Nashville’s Marathon Music Works and invited PG onboard their stage for a tour of Scott’s gear. He’s made some changes since his 2017 Rig Rundown. He’s still a Firebird devotee, and that epic moustache is untouchable. But there are plenty of 6-string additions and some big changes in the amp department. Check it out!

Black Stone Cherry was touring with Helix floor units straight to front of house and sounded great.
I've been working on using the Helix with cabs as well for the last month. It's been great. And I love tube amps but these have been very convincing.
Why was John so amazed when the guy said he went with a modeling rig????? Didn’t he saw the damn huge thing down there ????? 😂😂
I use a line 6 with my analog pedals but this title is misleading he has a huge rack full of pedals and amps that have a ton of gain.

I am not nearly the pro that you guys are, but I lean toward the Helix too. It just works

I hope he gets this figured out live. Minneapolis show his rig kept fitzing and glitching. Sounds he has dialed are cool. Growing pains I assume. All the best!

Analog is the sound of distortion transformers and speaker cabinets.
If modelled right no one can hear the difference except a handful of the world's best ears but even that is a shrinking bunch.
BB King used a solid state and no one knew...Fuel and Roadie Costs...go figure.
I record with two JFet Di cheap Joyos coming out of a radial ABY, they go out into an Oceans 12 ( digital ) reverb after gain.
Blending like an effects loop.

Ha.. probably my fav quick DI pedal setup. The things I've recorded with a just a joyo American and oceans 11would blow some minds 🤯

The tube has been superseded
because he is trying to save costs on gear shipping.
It's a sad state of affairs when a guy has to apologetically justify the use of digital technology. The tube Nazis still have a stranglehold on the gear narrative. This would make a good Curb Your Enthusiasm episode.

If you go digital I think you've still got to have some cabs behind.
Fractal Audio straight to FOH and a Qsc K10.2 for monitoring. Works like a charm😉

Digital has no soul? It's just more convenient.
Especially for a touring professional. I imagine the troubleshooting of issues might be easier if you have a backup amp modeler rather than figuring out what pedal cable in the chain is the culprit

@@EJH-jn6mo I sold all my digital dirt pedals. Some things can't be replaced.
@@kane6529 doubt it. Remember how many times the sound gets stepped on before you hear it on here. I've done a side by side with an hx stomp and Strymon iridium. They can't do what an analog amp or pedal does.

this title is misleading to say the least... he did not go all out digital. He is using an amp and cabs.
It's digital in that he's using the Helix for his tone not tube amps. He's using the transparent SS amp and cabs for monitoring, they're not miked up. He could just use stage or in ear monitors but, as he said in the video, he doesn't like the way this sounds/feels.

@@LilOlFunnyBoy he’s using an amp and doing so because going all digital doesn’t cut it. Thats hybrid, not digital.
@@EJH-jn6mo no. FoH is all digital down to impulse responses for cab and mic. He's only using the amp to power the cabs on stage which he uses for monitoring. That's a digital rig.
