On a quick trip to the Amtrak station in Cary to watch the northbound Silver Star, ALC-42 charger 334’s “Head End Power” generator failed, providing no power to the coach and sleeper cars. This meant that the engineers of this train would switch all HEP duties to the lead P42, which required restarting the whole engine.
