    Thank you Brendan for breaking this all down for us. I hope I am able to utilize my miles on a future flight on Singapore Airlines. I flew Singapore Airlines the last time I flew home, and it was amazing even though I flew economy. SIA knows how to pamper their passengers so I can see how much they pamper their first-class passengers. And thank you to Kara and Nate for featuring their trip from London in these amazing suites. 😍

    Exactly. These “free flights” are all based on signup bonuses OR 6+ figures of annual spending on your card. No discussion of how much $ spend you need on most of these cards to afford these mileage reward tickets if it weren’t for the signup bonuses. Because at that rate you are better off just spending the 9k$ on the ticket itself.

    • @ninocastro6219

      I think while you have a point , it’s more about how much you spend overall. I think most prefer to buy stuff like food , house stuff that add up to the points value , than spend all that money at once on a ticket.
      It’s almost like ,, you spent the money somehow you just getting the ticket at a discount rate .. it’s almost like you saved up for the flight , instead of buying it at once .

    This is beautiful! Thank you for sharing this info. I noticed on the transfer partner cheat sheet you show transfer timing for each program. If the transfer time isn’t instant, there is a risk that while waiting the award space could get booked by someone else, right? If so, that makes me nervous. 😬 Thanks again!

    • @runsprettygoodforafatguy6232
      @runsprettygoodforafatguy6232 Год назад +1

      This video is missing some important information for using the KrisFlyer program. First, the transfers are not always instant. Singapore does allow you to hold reward flights, but you have to call. If you don't call, there's a good chance you'll lose the award space. Second, the miles expire 3 years after earning (at the end of the month). To my knowledge, aside from a global pandemic, there is no way to extend them.

    Great video! I'm curious though, what do you do with the credit card after you've earned the bonus miles? I've noticed many of these credit cards have an annual fee and it just doesn't make sense for me to have lots of credit cards for my regular expenses. Do you cancel the card right away? Does that hurt your credit score?

    • @juliaortiz6483
      @juliaortiz6483 Год назад

      the chase preferred/reserve both have annual travel credits which can offset the annual fee a little bit. there’s other perks too that might make it worth it for you to keep using the card. closing a newer card will impact your credit some, but not as much as if you were to cancel a card you’ve had for a long time.

    Shame that this strategy is more effective in the States where it seems like you can just sign up for many different credit cards at different times. That wouldn’t work in Australia as our credit laws are pretty strict, and every credit card is subject to a credit, income and expenses check.

    One minor thing - I haven't ever seen the A380 tickets (ie the suite the guys flew, not the 777 first class) available with a 'saver' ticket - it's only ever 'advantage' which will drastically skew the quoted cents-per-point value... To be fair, I've only looked at the SIN-LHR route!

  • @timr6394
    @timr6394 Год назад +3

    A couple things stand out to me about this video. You are choosing the absolute cheapest day for point redemption (in 2024), then choosing the most expensive cash flight (near term) to calculate the redemption value - which you say is 6cents .. so a bit misleading. Additionally, you reference a "$20,000 first class seat". This was calculated on 2 passengers flying, not on a per seat basis. At no point throughout the course of this video was it shown how points were redeemed for $20,000 worth of cash tickets. Oversensationalized.

      Great question! Most airlines don't allow split payments when purchasing airline tickets but a few select airlines like JetBlue do allow this in my experience. For example, I may have 40k points from Amex, 60k points from Chase, and 50k points from Cap 1. Can I combine them in order to come up with the grand total I may need for one trip? Thanks for the great tips!

      Yes it doesn’t matter where the points come from. Just make sure they are coming from credit cards that belong to the same name as the Krisflyer account. For example you can’t transfer your credit card points to someone else’s Krisflyer account.

  • @fljoe
    @fljoe Год назад

    Great strategy, but remember that most people don't have a RUclips channel that generates enough income to allow them to spend 6 figures to generate that many points. Also Chase now limits how many sign up bonuses you can get, and some card companies even have one bonus per lifetime language in their T& C's. So for the average person, this is not a sustainable strategy if you plan to take more than a few trips.

      You are 100% correct! Typically its a temporary short term trop due to a "hard inquiry" but long term, adding a new card will increase you lines of credit, improve your credit mix, and increase available credit which is good for utilization, so in my experience my score ends up being even higher after opening a new card after just a few months.

      Actually is just a matter of availability… airlines have multiple fare classes, and for miles as well. If the flight is not doing great in occupancy, or it’s in a low season, they will make the saver fare available to guarantee someone will book. If they don’t need people booking with miles, they will use the other fare class that charges more miles

Every time I've looked by points, it would be a 1:1 equivalent--for example, if the list price of a flight is $100 (cash), the miles required would always be around 10,000 miles as mileage equivalent. Honestly the information presented does not present anything credible to what I've seen trying to do the same thing, and I've flown a lot.
