  • In this video you will learn how to fly business class for "free". Recently I spent $135 and used credit card points to book an $11,300 business class seat. I want to share with you exactly how I accomplished this so you can follow the same steps as well.
    To be fair, this seat isn't always $11,300. A normal price is usually $2,000 - $5,000. BTW all of these prices are for one way tickets from Honolulu to Tokyo. Either way, you will learn how to fly business class like this for cheap.

I'm a CA girl studying abroad in Japan so I frequently fly a similar route, and ANA is my fave airline. Hi Chase thanks for this informative video. One questions how are you able to determine that the flight is going to be a business class when in the Virgin Atlantic chart the 35000 points is pertaining to Economy. Thanks!

    • @ChaseYokoyama
      @ChaseYokoyama  4 месяца назад +1

      I should have explained it better but the Virgin chart shows the roundtrip total. So for one way tickets, you half whatever value you see there. That's why my one way business class flight was 35,000 instead of the full 70,000 for round trip

  • @woodm25
    @woodm25 2 месяца назад

    I'm just learning the points game, 2 questions..
    1. When you saw the 30% transfer bonus, should you transfer all of your points that get multiplied 1.3 and then later you can transfer the unused points somewhere else you may need them?
    2. Trying to decide between CSR / CSP / CVX, goal is for lounge access a few regular flights a year and when points allow business class flights for 2.

    • @ChaseYokoyama
      @ChaseYokoyama  2 месяца назад

      Congratulations on starting your journey with points! Welcome to the club 👏🏽
      1. I wouldn't transfer all of my points. Chase points are more valuable than airline points mainly because they offer more flexibility. So I would either transfer as many points as you are about to use for an upcoming flight or transfer points to a program that you KNOW you will use eventually. Like if I knew I would use Virgin points in the future then I would send a few over just to take slight advantage of the transfer bonus.
      2. CSP wont give you lounge access so it would be VX or the CSR. The VX is way easier to break even with as it requires less credits / benefits to take advantage of. I think the VX is a better start into the "premium" travel card world because it has a lower annual fee, less credits and benefits to juggle, and it has great catch all reward multiplier.

    • @ChaseYokoyama
      @ChaseYokoyama  Месяц назад

      That is correct! You have to meet the minimum spend requirement to receive the sign up bonus. No, when you upgrade / downgrade credit cards you do not receive the sign up bonus. You would have to apply independently to be eligible for the sign up bonus. Thanks for asking!

  • @evosantinbk8681

    Marriott's exchange rate is indeed 3 points per 1 mile but bear in mind it earns 3 points per dollar, so basically same 1:1. And you get 25% bonus mile if you exchange in lump sum.

    • @ChaseYokoyama
      @ChaseYokoyama  4 месяца назад

      well it depends what you are buying. for example, the CSP earns 1x on general purchases while the Marriott Brilliant earns 2x on those same purchases. But since you transfer Marriott at 3:1 vs Chase's 1:1, you would be better off spending on ur CSP over the Marriott card because although it gives you less points, you would need less points to transfer over to Marriott.

      Try looking around 3 - 14 days ahead instead. Be cautious when considering the ANA Mileage Club program; many have found it lacking compared to other airlines' offerings. Despite purchasing a round-trip business class ticket, you may find that only part of your journey is awarded at this level, leaving you to return in coach. Although it's suggested you can upgrade by calling if award seats become available, be prepared for potentially long hold times without guarantee of success. Additionally, points for a round-trip business class seat are deducted, yet no refund is offered for the downgrade to coach. Even if business class seats remain available, don't expect an automatic upgrade.

    Man... I am never able to find any business or first class flights for these prices, let alone the room. I checked literally everything listed here for weeks, from 1 day to 12 months out and there's nothing from Chicago to Japan (or LA, or any of the airports listed here). If you find something please share, because I just ended up booking an economy flight with 55k points through united. Not the greatest deal... it's like 15% higher than what you booked your room flight for. My 55k point flight is at least a significant discount than most days listed on united at 100k points

    • @ChaseYokoyama
      @ChaseYokoyama  Месяц назад

      as of the time writing this comment I found "The Room" availability. I used the following information on United's website:
      - ORD to NRT
      - One Way
      - One person
      - Departure date: April 30th 2024
      - 11:50 AM - 3:00PM
      - Flight #: NH 11
      I know it might not be the date that you want but I encourage you to check again. Flight availability opens up every 24 hrs so checking a day after could actually yield you a seat.

    But aren’t you comparing 35K in virgin atlantic, which is an economy class seat vs United 90K for Business. 70k through VA is less so thank you for the tip but the cc conversion would be a closer difference

    • @ryanrodriguez5293
      @ryanrodriguez5293 5 месяцев назад +1

      The 70K on virgin is round trip so half of that would be 35K for a one way redemption. In his vlog though it showed the price of one way being about 1000 dollars. Subtract the taxes and fees he paid and it was roughly a 3.2cpp redemption. Still great value but not the inflated price he was making it seem like.

    • @ChaseYokoyama
      @ChaseYokoyama  5 месяцев назад +2

      Good question but like Ryan said it is 70k for business class roundtrip with virgin atlantic. So for a one way business class flight it would be half that amount (35k). Also I found that ANA one way business class flights on average are over $2,000 from Honolulu to Tokyo. In the video I mentioned that the cash price I was seeing at the time of booking ($11,300) was wayyy more expensive that usual. That's why I calculated the CPP of both using a conservative $2,000 ticket price with the $11,300 ticket price that I saw as well.

      @ryanrodriguez5293 5 месяцев назад

      @@ChaseYokoyama didn’t mean to try and knock you down, or else I wouldn’t have watched. Being in Honolulu I bet there is much more availability than other more frequented airports like SFO or JFK. And like I said, even at the MOST conservative rates, it’s still a great redemption. I think that’s the key point here

      the flight route, flight date, and time that you are searching are all variables that will change the price. Also keep in mind that I booked on Virgin which cost less than what you see on United's website.

    Isn't that 35000 points only for economy class? So it's not 27000 points + $135 for business class, or did I miss something?

    • @ChaseYokoyama
      @ChaseYokoyama  4 месяца назад

      the 35,000 is business class but just one way. If you are referring to the screenshot of the award chart that I showed in the video theres the biz class column with 70,000. That 70,000 is for a roundtrip while one way would be half of that : 35,000. Then when I transferred my Chase points to Virgin, there was a 30% transfer bonus. thats how I turned 27,000 chase points to 35,100 virgin points
