Many lounges turn down priority pass customers. They'll just tell us "We aren't accepting Priority Pass customers right now" and priority pass won't do anything about it.
This is why it no longer offers me value anymore. It baffles me why anyone would pay for it.
The airline Lounges won't accept pp customers during busy hours. What card to get depends on your home airport. Sapphire Lounge will always accept Sapphire customers. Amx card members can always go to Centurion lounge. there are also pp run lounges as well.
Priority pass is horrible in the US. Chase lounges aren’t in enough airports. ATL is the worst.
That's true, but I was thinking people were already aware of this before they got Priority Pass (PP)
International PP is pretty good IME.
I've been to PP in Singapore and Sri Lanka and it was awesome.
Try LAX, it's barren.
Agree. Priority Pass sucks.
They upgraded the ATL PP lounge it’s not as bad as it used to be.
I saw priority pass and immediately clicked. I pay way too much for the platinum card to not be informed.
😂
SAME!
I agree 😂, Chase might be the move 🤦🏾♂️
No priority pass at LAX.
We need a priority pass or centurion lounge in JFK terminal 5!!!! I am an avid jet blue flyer and there’s never a lounge to hang out in.
This!!!!!!!
^ I fly jetBlue occasionally for vacations, T5 is so boring without a lounge. Requiring to leave and reenter security 2x for the Chase lounge is sad
YES!!
LAX sucks, no lounges for Priority Pass and Sapphire. They got the Centurion lounge but its always packed
⛵️ My favorite lounge was the IGA lounge at Istanbul airport. Couldn’t believe I got to stay in luxury like that for free with priority pass
Only used it once. It was at the Platinum club (nothing to do with Amex) in Budapest.
Actually a pretty good lounge. Entered when they opened at 5AM. No crowds, and
a pretty good selection of food and drinks. I had already eaten at the hotel breakfast
buffet, so I really didn't try much.
Thanks for diving into the history a bit, I think it's helpful to know the context on all these changes.
Glad you enjoyed it!
⛵. Now that we're exiting Sky and Centurion access, PP will become something to watch. Venture X is our only premium card (+Aspire), with a Capital One lounge entering D Gate in Las Vegas soon.
The Chase Sapphire lounges really are excellent. I've visited the Boston and Laguardia ones many times. They seem to be expanding fairly aggressively this coming year, and I hope this continues.
⛵ You overlooked the US BanK Altitude Connect with it's discontinued annual fee (as of Sept. 2024) will get you 4 Priority Pass lounge/restaurant visits essentially for free. Actually they'll give you $500 to do so (after $2000 min. spend in 120 days).
⛵️ great video! Question: if you have the US bank altitude reserve and still have access to the restaurants, how do you use it? Do you still show them the priority pass QR code, or do you just swipe with your card and it reimburse you?
⛵ I have C1VX & AMEX Plat and also out of SFO. With no PP lounges in the domestic terminals, the restaurant credit was a decent substitute so it's a pity it was removed. However, I did read in FlyerTalk that there is a new The Club lounge in T1 near gate B3 which is under construction and scheduled to open late 2024.
When flying to Asia (BKK via TYO) I usually have the "coin flip" decision of SFO or LAX. Since neither have Priority Pass or Plaza Premium lounges, the development of a The Club at SFO makes that decision easier when we're not flying PE or higher in JAL or J on other airlines.
Thanks for the heads up!
Thank you
Austin, TX has CSR lounge. Most of it is outside. Beverages are canned (beer, wine, soda, etc.). Food is available from a vending machine (it's fresh & tasty, considering). Open 10am - 7pm, as of last visit.
how does the altitude reserve work on chase lounges (is guest allowed for the one time i can get in) and am i allowed to bring in more than 1 guest for PP restaurants? Any datapoints for how the guest passes work in these situations?
⛵
I have the expensive cc trifecta: Venture X, AMEX Platinum & CSP, however I only use PP from the CSP since Boston is home base and I enjoy the Chase Lounge
⛵️ 1.) Venture X 2.) Not happy about it, but I haven’t travelled enough for it to be a really big deal for me. 3.) Don’t have one right now.
My mum has the middle-tier priority pass and I had the lower-tier (I was paying $49 instead of $99). She uses hers for restaurants mostly as I added her to my Venture X, so she has two passes. I still have my regular one through this summer (I wanted to make sure I was going to keep the cc before I got rid of priority since I wasn't paying full price on the annual). I wouldn't use the lower tier on restaurants as that doesn't mathematically make sense.
⛵. Thanks for the update.
⛵Best PP lounge (Sapphires excluded) is the Turkish lounge at IAD. Though, I heard good things about Plaza Premiums in the UK. I wonder if card issuers are considering tiers of cards that only have 10 or 20 swipes per year. Or... is the delta between buying 20 visits and unlimited negligible? I wish I was privy to Collinson's deals with Amex, Chase, etc.
Got my PP via Venture X, went to Ninth & Pike at SEA-TAC to use the dining credit last month and was told they only honor PP for Chase and Amex. How is that OK?
I only have a priority pass with Platinum Amex. I have never used it because I am always traveling with someone who doesn't want to pay, or I never have enough time to use them
I have only used priority pass twice ever time I try to used the lounge is not accepting at the moment
I have priority pass 2x via Amex platinum and business platinum. Haven’t visited a lounge yet, but hopefully soon if time allows.
IAD's Etihad lounge is co-branded "Chae Sapphire Lounge."
Thanks for the insight
So what’s the recommendation for a new person in the lounge sectors when traveling?
As an airline employee, I used to get hundreds of dollars in value each year at priority pass restaurants, using them daily, sometimes twice a day to eat while at work. If it weren’t for the new sapphire lounges and the 1.5x I get using the CSR, I’d probably switch to the venture X
Worst part about Venture X while being an airline employee is the required seat assignment to enter the club.
And your the reason PP Restaurant benefit was nerfed.
@@bperrey7only amex lounges require that assigned seat
@@bperrey7don’t the Amex require the same thing?
Did they not require any type of boarding pass validation? Sounds like you might have been abusing a loophole.
Hope you have mentioned which other credit cards still offering Priority Pass with restaurants access after Sapphire Reserve and Ritz-Carlton stops this benefit after July 2024.
⛵️
1. PP w/venture X
2. Meh
3. Capital one lounge Denver
⛵️ thanks for the update.
⛵️is it true for the venture x BUSINESS card, any additional card holders cannot get priority pass access on their own?
I’m rocking the Venture X and ’ve got a ton of value out of the lounge access. Capital one lounges in Denver and Dallas are very nice and we’re not too crowded either time I was there. And I’ve used premium pass internationally all over Central America without any issues.
I recently got the venture X, but I also have the Amex platinum business, which has Priority Pass. Do I need to call Priority Pass and add the venture X card to my account?⛵️
Do you think AMEX needs to do something for the lounge. They are too crowded and people cannot even use it. I am thinking of canceling the card because of that.
Lounges are only useful if it's nearby. The Centurion lounge at JFK is nice when 1. it's not crowded and 2. if your terminal is the same or nearby. Having to go through security twice at different terminals (even with TSA Pre-Check and Clear) can still be quite time-consuming and not worth the crowds (or in my case, the same dang chicken!). I loved the American lounge at JFK as there were showers, so that was helpful when I had a good layover, ran into NYC (hot day), came back, showered before an overnight flight to Europe.
I must be missing something, what are the changes to the Amex platinum?
I happened to have got my Citi Prestige less than a year before it became not available for new applicants. Now with Citi Strata Premier being in the market, I do guess that Citi Strata will have its equivalent to Citi Prestige, and that card may not include Priority Pass for restaurants.
Still no priority pass lounge at lax
(sailboat) Since the card issuers removed the Priority Pass restaurant benefit around the same time, it makes me wonder what happened on the Priority Pass side of things to precipitate this. Yeah, they probably asked for a lot more money, but was there something specific behind that?
⛵I remember paying about $80 per year for Priority Pass. I think it was $25 each time to access. Northwest Airlines lounges were the best. I forget when AMEX offered it but I was thrilled. Looking forward to Chase lounge in PHL, hopefully mid 2025.
How do the varying Priority Pass benefits work together for a user that has multiple cards that offer PP access? For instance, if you have the Venture X (unlimited visits but no restaurant) and the US Bank Altitude Reserve (8 visits but with restaurants), is it possible to combine the benefits together to get unlimited visits and restaurant access?
Use your US Bank PP card for your 8 visits to restaurants and your VX PP card for lounges. They are completely separate memberships and do not combine. I label mine with a sharpie so I know which to use where.
⛵ Waiting for Hyatt to issue a premium card, hopefully with lounge access and automatic Explorist status. Would be great if it included Hyatt hotel club access as well.
Hoping they don’t change Hyatt at all… more access would just kill it off. Love my Hyatt. ❤
We have a 5 hour layover in Montreal, Canada and going to France. 3 people. I bought a Groupon for a discount to PriorityPass, any suggestions?
Is the Ritz-Carlton card also loosing restaurants in July?
⛵ honestly man! I've used the PP pass here and there and some of the visits have been good, and some of them have been a$$. And the random time restrictions isn't fair because I can't control when my flight lands. I just need a lounge to relax in. I've had it for a year. If they keep adding restrictions I'm probably gonna switch to CSR.
My chase infinite gives me 28.00 per person up to 3 people. It does say 2 people but I've never been charged extra for airport restaurants that participate
Yup, been taking advantage of my Citi Prestige. I fall into that category of exceeding 1k per year with the PP restaurant lol
Live 10 min from LGA in N.Y and the Sapphire Lounge there is phenomenal and that alone for me justifies having a CSR.
Good to know…
It's fantastic and gorgeous. The Boston one is also very good. Smaller than LGA, but I think the food options might be a bit better.
⛵️Did I hear you say Venture X authorized user can get their own Priority Pass card? Also is adding someone as authorized user disqualifying them from sign up bonus in the future?
Removal of restaurants kind of sucks for flying out of SFO unless if you're flying out an A gate international.
I know you prefaced the video by stating these are cards you can apply for, but have they changed the rules for the JP Morgan and RC? Specifically, can they gain access to Chase Sapphire lounges (unl. guests for the RC)?
Do you think the ritz card will keep most of its lounge benefits especially the sapphire lounge? I’m a little insecure it might lose access
No reason for them to take the sapphire lounge access away.
You could see other changes to it but it feels unlikely unless they relaunch it
⛵️Ritz-Carlton card spotted at 1:45 🦁 Great for Sapphire lounge access!
Just got the sapphire reserve in hopes to save some money while at work. I’m a pilot. Got it just in time for them to remove crew member access. Pretty frustrating, but I can’t imagine any very members keeping their card.
So I can't use my Sapphire Preferred card at the Chase lounge?
I have Priority pass through Chase Sapphire Reserve. My family and I love the lounge in Fiji Airport and the Philippines International.
Boston CSR Lounge has always been crowded with at least 30 min wait.
I only had a 20 minute wait, and it was well worth it.
I didn't have a wait at all
No wait time at all if you have an early morning flight, don’t know about noon or later
Any news for Lounges at LAX??.
Does anyone have a recommendation on downgrading Amex Gold to a no annual fee or just cancelling entirely? I already transferred all of my points out to book flights recently, so I wouldn't be losing any points. I'm switching over to the SavorOne/Venture X strategy and using the CSP for restaurants.
There’s not a no annual fee option.
@@AskSebby Thank Sebby! I also found your JAL Business Class review super helpful. Gonna be flying from LAX to KIX, then NRT to SFO next year. 🙏🏼
I downgraded my Gold to the Green last month. A few days later got offered 15K MR points to upgrade back to the Gold
@@Ron-qe4ul I got the 30K points on $3K spending retention offer last year. I think my issue is that I'm not really finding a lot of value on the card anymore. I used Uber and Grubhub with pick up every month which felt like a chore, but mainly kept the card around to store the points. Now that I've transferred it all out, it was almost like a weight lifted off my shoulders. Lol
⛵ I don't have either of the cards in your video. I'm deciding which to go for--I spend most of my time traveling in/around Latin America with 2-3 trips to the US annually.
Didnt realize pp offers restaurants- i rarely use it bc I usually fly delta and have delta amex card out of my home base msp. Last yr i tried to use my pp at montego bay airport and was told they were ‘at capacity’ for pp members - can you talk about that?
⛵ guess it's a good time to be holding the prestige or old venture x business - oh well, thanks for the coverage as always Sebby!!
3:14 is that the IAD Capital One Lounge?
I love the video of everyone with the faceshields on. Covid era stock footage was a weird time.
Isn't that true. But the way politicians are they want to do it again they want to control us, only we can stop that from happening again
Any update on the Apple Card?
I got Priority Pass Select membership (4 free visits per year) from my U.S. Bank Altitude Connect Visa Credit Card. If I no longer have the credit card (downgrade or simply close account after 1 year), will I still be able to use my Priority Pass, which is still valid until early 2025 for free lounge visits that I haven't used?
No but they are getting rid of the AF in the fall so it will be free to keep.
No one mention that the Ritz card is effectively a hybrid of the "best" options listed.
There's also the BofA card that still has restaurants afaik but it's probably just asking to have it removed again if you pursue that one. Certainly feels like a gamble or a short term play.
Yup, wouldn't count on it staying around on ay remaining cards.
I’ve had the Amex Platinum for 10 years and have never used Priority Pass (I did sign up for it, just never got to use it). The PHL Centurion Lounge is always packed and the Minute Suites is always full.
Have u done overseas travel the last 10 years? It's a great card to have when traveling overseas...P.P card gives access to those Amazing airport lounges ..I don't use it stateside at all.
@@hilamadventures4060 #SwissportORD
Internationally, the Priority Pass lounges are definitely a step above those stateside. But, with C1VX the Plaza Premium lounges are even better than the priority pass lounges. In fact, the C1 lounges are in the Plaza Premium network. Frankly, Priority Pass is lucky Chase is doing so much investment in lounges and applying those to Priority Pass rather than Plaza Premium. I'm thinking Chase specifically didn't want C1 access associated with their lounges with those being in the same network.
Sebby, seriously though, I never use my PP. Is there a platform whereby one could say lease/exchange the benefits out?
If there is, that’s probably against the terms of service 🙃
@@AskSebby I yearly travel with a group of high income earners who universally desire to rush out of the airports. I no longer drive, so I've never explained to them what they're missing out on. I currently hold Ritz/Amex Plat and I would think that they have decent cards...apparently not realizing the hidden values.
Above age 50 folks without a clue...
As someone who lives in & flies out of Miami (MIA), this is a bummer. I really hope we get a Chase Sapphire Lounge in the near future! The Priority Pass credit towards a visit at Corona Beach House has been a savior on our travels many times, especially when the Turkish Airlines Lounge is either at capacity or completely out of the way for the terminal we’re flying out of. Miami should’ve been one of the first locations for a Chase Sapphire Lounge with how busy the Centurion Lounge gets but I digress.
Side note: I flew into LAX for the first time last week & saw that LAX has little-to-no Priority Pass options??? Crazy for how large & busy that airport is!
I have priority pass on Citi prestige and amex platinum, Citi P has a better PP offering
You forgot to mention ⛵ Austin has a sapphire lounge. Good info and video tho thanks!
I just used your affiliate link to sign up for venture x. It was quick and easy. It took them less than 30 seconds to approve it.
It's supposed to arrive in 3 days! Yeah!! 🎉🎉🎉
I hope you'll get some bonus or fee for my signup. Thanks for all your videos!!
Thank you!! Appreciate it :)
Sapphire lounges are probably the best PP lounges in the US right now as far as food options and quality. Having a menu to order from is really nice too. If there's a Sapphire lounge at your home airport you should really consider the CSR.
Chase is dragging their feet when it comes to building and opening Sapphire Lounges.
There simply aren't enough The Club locations or Chase Sapphire Lounges in the US.
Not really. It takes time to locate spaces and secure leases within airports, which all have limited space. Then you have to build out the spaces and hire and train staff. Each location also has specific menus that are developed by local chefs. They took over an existing Hong Kong lounge less than 2 years ago and opened their first US lounge one a year ago. Opening 4 US lounges within a year is not that slow. And there are another 4 announced and opening soon.
⛵️Sebby, correct me if i’m wrong here, just wanna make sure I understood this correctly, you said the people who do NOT have priority pass through the reserve, so anyone with the venture x or platinum basically, they do NOT get free guests with their one calendar year visit to any chase lounge?
I think if you have Priority Pass from any non-Chase card, you can visit a total of 1 Chase Sapphire lounge one time each year. So, say you visit the amazing Laguardia lounge once, you've used up your 1 visit for the year.
Chicago's airport has a great restaurant in it that was covered by Priority Pass. I sucked to see that credit go away.
We need a sapphire lounge now!
1 visit per year for PP holder, what if I have 4 different PP from different card issuers? Do I then have 4 visits per year?
I believe so since you can have multiple Priority Pass accounts from different credit cards. I know I had 2 Priority Pass accounts when I had both the CSR and C1VX when I did a product change to CSP. To be safe, I would bring both physical cards with you so you know which one to flash depending upon your visit needs. But, you can totally have more than one Priority Pass account. I'll probably have 2 later this year (C1VX and C1 Business VX), and then maybe a 3rd if they don't shut down product changes to Ritz next year.
Sometimes during the year you can find deals on PP memberships direct for 20% off
@askSebby - Curious about wrapping my head around some of your listed airfares (along with others in the same space as you) I recently saw you quoted 70K points for business class to Asia one way. I am looking at cards to maximize my travel benefits. Primarily business class seats and then lodging. I can't find anything nearly as good as the fares i see listed. So either folks are using some incredible once in a lifetime fare they scoured and found or I am incompetent... Currently have the Chase UnitedQuest card but United's fares have become astronomical and I don't think I will keep the card. Appreciate any tips or thoughts.
Try using a tool like Seats Aero: asksebby.com/seatsaero
@@AskSebby Thanks, I will check out the free version and see how it works.
⛵. Don't fly much, no lounges in home airport so I haven't needed lounge tier cards yet
What’s PP restaurant.
Does that include eating at lounge buffet
It was a benefit separate from the food provided at lounges. You would get credit to eat at partner restaurants in the airport terminal that are outside of lounge locations.
I was wondering all the time about that “party pass”, he is talking about.
Way into the video realizing that he is says “priority” extremely fast and it sounds like “party”
⛵️ I have Priority Pass with: Chase Ritz-Carlton; AMEX Platinum for Schwab; and AMEX Bonvoy Brilliant. The changes make sense within the context of increased costs associated with restaurants. I use my Ritz-Carlton card to access my new favorite lounge, the Sapphire Lounge by The Club at JFK. I can bring an unlimited number of guests.
I'm not quite sure why the Sapphire Reserve is called out ahead of the Amex Platinum as the card to get for lounges.
There are finally a few Sapphire lounges but there are many more Centurion lounges.
If we use the logic in the video, it makes more sense to hold the platinum because you have unlimited access to centurion and you get 1 Sapphire visit. The othe way around, you get no centurion visits
Most people are optimizing for Chase 5/24 before moving to Amex.
The Ritz Carlton is all you need
⛵ We hit up the Yankee Pier every time we fly out of SFO. The few times we've attempted to use the Priority Pass for the Air France or China Airlines Lounge we were told they were at full capacity or we could take a brown bag to go. So now we don't even try to hit those lounges and opt for the restaurant perks instead.
What about The Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant By AMEX offers Priority Pass unlimited visits
Great video and thanks for the updates. Think I may look to cancel the American Express Platinum Business
I guess you're not familiar with the U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve Priority Pass benefits, since you didn't mention that card?
⛵️ congratulations on 300k!
Thank you!
How come sapphire preferred owners don’t get this?
I am looking into priority pass with Chase bank, but I guess it’s not worth it.
Amex PP is worthless at home airport DFW. I do use it in Montego Bay though.
On my last trip I had the wake up call on Business lounges. Pretty much all lounges in the US and Europe are second or third class. I visited the Business lounge in Hamad International Airport in Doha. The lounge one of the two business (there is a first lounge) easily sat 400 people there where multiple food and bar stations as well as a menu. Gym, Dior facial spa, a LV lounge in the lounge, meditation rooms, massage rooms shower rooms, sleep area, spa area, and more. It was larger than most US airports.
What is the big change mentioned in the title? Did I miss something? Thanks.
Venture X Business switched payment processors, and removed the restaurant access at the same time. Big change = removal of restaurant access across the board.
So if you have the venture x you can visit the chase sapphire lounge once a year?
Correct…I think it’s $75 per visit after you use your 1 annual visit.
If they’re all removing something, I see it as normal corporate greed to squeeze more profits not necessarily that’s it’s untenable
