"Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Blanch the sprouts for 1 minute, stirring with a wooden spoon. Strain them and rinse in cold water in a large bowl for a couple of times. As you rinse them, shake them under the water so the skins fall into the bowl. Put the cleaned sprouts in a basket and strain well." Check out the recipe here, please. www.maangchi.com/recipe/sukjunamul-muchim
Boil for one minute, remove and place into cold water immediately to keep crispiness, mix and rinse with hands, then grab and shake out of water to remove skins.cut up two garlic clove, and two green onion, two teaspoons of fish sauce, half a teaspoon of salt (or 3 teaspoons fish sauce no salt) one tablespoon sesame oil, one teaspoon sesame seeds mix into the bean sprouts
Just cleaned a huge bowl of fresh mung bean sprouts! I start a new batch every week, I feel like I'm eating much healthier, by incorporating sprouts in my diet! Thank you, Maangchi! I'll be making sukjunamul-muchim tomorrow morning!
I've become a fan of hers... Such a lovely lady... She explains everything so clearly... I am a teacher and I wish my students would be happy like us after we watch Maangchi
I love this recipe! It's so delicious and can be used with most foods. I found this channel because I was wanting to learn more about the Korean culture and I've always found the doorway to most cultures is through their recipes and food preparation. It tells the story of how it came to be through necessity and how the people would cook what was available and preserve food for hard winters. I am native american, so a lot of our original foods were lost through colonialism and the relocation of our tribes to lands that were foreign to them and often unfarmable, their local foods were gone as was the knowledge of what flora and fauna were not only available but edible and how to prepare them. My husband was adopted as a baby from Korea by a white, conservative, Christian family so much of his heritage was lost. We've had children and with those children, I felt despair because I had so little of our cultures to teach them. So I began with food. This channel has been crucial to helping return what was lost to my husband and children. And I have to say, bibimbap and gimbap are a favorite!
Maangchi Yes, I did however I the only missing ingredient was the Hazelnut coffee and for alternative I used Brazilian instant coffee. I also bought sesame oil, chili paste and chili flakes. I fell in love with Korean dishes.
I grew mung bean sprouts like you showed us!!! Thank you so much for this recipe, it is hard to get fresh produce in these dark times and this has made me so so happy!!! You are the BEST!!! Thank you for helping to take care of us. Take care and be well!
Just wanted to thankyou for providing such positivity and inspiration. Today I harvested my first 3 pounds of bean sprouts following your method, now I am in the zone to make something tasty...and here we are...really appreciated. God Bless. CC
I never had bean sprouts until I went to college, it was my very favorite! Once I discovered sesame oil years later I fell in love. Now I grow my own sprouts thanks to your videos. Thank you ♥️
I tried this. In my opinion…….. it’s so delicious… it’s good with everything. And it’s so easy to make. I’m eating it with rice and my korean instant noodles 🍜 sooo good. Thank you mangchi for this recipe. I love it
Thank you for a great recipe, Maangchi! I have to say that this combination of flavors, including umami that we get from the fish sauce, is really addictive! To increase the umami flavor I have added one more ingredient - dried seaweed bits that we use in miso soup. After adding seaweed the salad should be allowed to stand for about 30 minutes for the seaweed to absorb the moisture and to become chewy as a seaweed used in salads as well as to mix with flavors of other ingredients. I realize this addition is not a traditional Korean way, but I wanted to share this with your subscribers as this experiment worked out really well.
If you want something even closer to fish sauce but vegan, mix soy sauce with mushrooms (rehydrated mushrooms from dried work best but fresh works too) and seaweed (something like wakame or nori) together. It will not taste like fish sauce but it will be very close in terms of providing a lot of savory notes with a bit of a sea taste (from the seaweed). Search for America's Test Kitchen vegetarian fish sauce on RUclips to see the recipe I'm referencing (not sure if I can link it in the comments section and also I don't know if Maangchi would like outside references on her channel). It works fairly well and will last in the fridge for at least a week.
