I really don't think they need the star power of these actors to sell people on a Mario movie. Mario is an icon and it can sell itself.
“A theatrical thrill ride through the Mario universe” you couldn’t have put it better.
To your point about Jack Black as Bowser, I don't think I've ever seen that man give less than full effort for a role. He always wants to make the character his own and I can't help but respect him for that. This video perfectly satisfied what I wanted to hear about this movie, excellent work.
Agreed he’s always sensational. Met him once on a flight back from SXSW. He was with Kyle Gass from Tenacious D and they were both high AF and super sweet dudes. :)
That's the truth, just go watch Nacho Libre, that one really proves he sinks himself into his roles!

I think we'll realistically be waiting another 50 or so years for Nintendo games to look this good. The Switch's tech is over 15 years old. They've been playing graphical catch up ever since they decided to make the Wii graphically the same as their previous console the GameCube, and now the Switch graphically similar to the Wii U. That's 2 whole generation leaps we missed out on.
I loved it but my only complaint was I wished they used the Mario music more.
Your Alita review got me to watch that a while ago. Loved it. You guys need to do as many movie reviews as possible. In stark contrast to reviewers like Grace Randolph. I mean wow. She couldnt be more wrong. Mario was so much fun to watch.

Why is when Disney makes a movie about sisterly love (Frozen) everyone calls it a masterpiece, but when Nintendo does it it's considered shallow fan service?

Disagree with HCG there. A mario story can definitely have a theme or an underlying message. Most Mario games may not have stories, BUT that doesn’t mean none of them do.
The mario rpgs are a perfect example of story telling in the mario franchise. Not to mention, even Galaxy had emotional moments like with Rosalina’s backstory.
You said exactly what i figured from the trailers, too much crammed in a short movie with a shallow script. It's a kids movie because that's who the products are aimed at.

One Canadian Movie being worked on right now is a sci-fi called Levels. It has David Hewlett (Cube, Stargate Atlantis, and more), Cara Gee (The Expanse), Aaron Abrams (Hannibal, Blind Spot), and Peter Mooney (Rookie Blue) in it. Might need to wait closer to launch before you can get any information about the movie or talk with the actors about, but it's something to keep on the radar.
Speaking of David Hewlett, I've mentioned it once before but it might be good to have a chat with him some time. If not on your channel, on David's stream. He regularly streams on Twitch and sometimes arranges to speak with guests on certain topics, but always converses with guests/chat in chat too. In particular, many of his streams are kind of geared towards science education for young people (called Tech Bandits), but it really dabbles in a lot of varied discussion and at an adult level. You and/or Ruby might want to check it out sometime.

The majority of movie critics are politically correct cowards, resulting in a bias against movies that don't check all the woke boxes.

I finally heard what I wanted to hear about this movie, just before the 8:31 mark. I am sick and tired of these unnatural monologues they put in all these movies now. That is bad writing for movies. Monologues belong in plays on Broadway, not in movies. So, this movie has more natural dialogue? Answer that. Because I haven't really watched a movie since 2018, because every time I tried, the dialogue just turned me off. People don't talk in monologues in real life.

It’s for children! I mean honestly - love you guys - but let’s understand some things are for kids - glad we enjoy it as adults but this is about 7-10 year olds loving this film not 40-50 year olds. I’m taking my daughter to see this opening day and the review I care about is how much we can enjoy this experience together.
You can argue its for kids, but a shallow script is a shallow script.
Maybe not all children are as shallow as yours
I'm 42, and love Mario, and taking my 2 nephews who are also big fans tomorrow on opening day, and as long as they enjoy the movie, then it was money well spent. Also not everything needs to have a deep, and complex script as long as it's fun, and enjoyable.
Johnny brings great energy to the video! I don't need the next Soul or Wall-e with this one. I want a fun Mario experience. If we can get that, I'll be content. The fan service will just be a nice bonus.
The old Mario movie is great. People who hate it, hate fun and creativity.
Is there a particular reason you won't report on the broken Last of Us PC port -- *the* gaming story right now? You couldn't even load the game on your Twitch stream, but you really didn't take Naughty Dog to task on that stream and I see no mention of the debacle on this channel. This plague of broken games at launch is insidious. On Steam, The Last of Us has literally just been listed as "unsupported" for Steam Deck, when Neil Druckmann just months ago bragged "Ellie and Joel will grace the Steam Deck, don't worry!"
