@XKillO8X emotions are a little more complicated than simply the fact that treating someone like crap simply implies you won't be seriously wounded by seeing them die in front of you. Ellie really did care for Joel. She didn't particularly like finding out that he lied to her in the last few years of knowing him but [SPOLIERS AHEAD] it is clear she was going to try to forgive him the night before he would die for his flaws at the end of the game and from what I gather she remembers forgiving him and realizes, in turn, she needs to forgive Abby for killing him (hence the flashback image of Joel playing his guitar on his porch which we will later get context for). Abby also should have been able to forgive Joel for killing her father but couldn't and lost herself just as many have pointed out Ellie does throughout the game. Say what you want about Joel's death and how it makes no sense with his character, but this game is a masterpiece when it comes to handling complex emotions.

The issue is that this is a GAME. Something is wrong if every time we play as Abby we intentionally jump off cliffs, but then are forced back into keeping her alive. Her story could work in a show/movie but she is the complete enemy of the characters that Neil Druckmann made us love. It is literally the fault of the writers of the first game that we don't like Abby, it's how we're SUPPOSED to feel after how they told the story of part 1. Asking us to try to sympathise with her is one thing, but you can't make us play as her and prevent her from dying. The icing on the cake was the boss fight against Ellie. There is no reason why we wouldn't surrender Abby up to Ellie every time. I feel like they forgot the fundamentals of why video games are immersive and got too lost in the narrative.
from 17:12 "what if we run into someone?" to "hi my name is joel, we leave nearby, i trust you all and i love strangers, btw my security number is 1234" like wtf
You've taken this completely out of context, Joel was referring to someone finding out that Ellie is immune, stop twisting words around to serve your argument
@@MM-hi the writing disregards Joel's caution. Yes, he's cautious about people finding out Ellie is immune, but he's still cautious. He bugs Jesse about her patrols because hes worried about her safety. I don't buy the "Jackson softened him" argument at all. As we know, he is still worried about Ellie on patrols. Joel does patrols too. Meaning he has to be sharp and careful. Yes, patrols are mostly focused around infected, but the first game establishes that Jackson has issues with bandits. In this game, Ellie mentions that Jackson hides their lookouts well (obviously from other people.) Being in Jackson would put them at more ease than being out in the world, just the two of them; they could be relatively worry-free inside of the walls of Jackson because they know they're being protected. This would not soften them, though. They all do patrols. They're all protecting the community. It's not just themselves they're looking after, but the entire community. I'd think this would put them on the look-out for anything suspicious. I buy Joel and Tommy saving a group from a hoarde. I don't buy them telling them their names, allowing themselves to be cornered, and not questioning at all what a heavily armed group is doing so close to Jackson - the community they're supposed to be protecting and defending. I think that entire sequence was lazy writing. They had a plot they wanted to make, so they made the characters bend to that. They put plot above established characterization, which is lazy. I don't mind that Joel died. I also respect the cruelty of the world they live in. Joel could have been bitten or gotten shot at any point, that's just the sad reality of this world, happens all the time. I just hate how they made Tommy and Joel act so stupidly and out-of-character.
That scene was so scary,i only 1 hp or something left when that thing grabbed me and tried to do the TLOU1 execution,i thought it was over, until joel jumped in like a madman,i couldnt trust my eyes :D
I can't express how just watching these two is so beautiful. Naughty Dog definitely dropped the ball with the rest of the story but you could see the potential in the flashbacks
@Lee 80s did you even play the game? It was tommy who told abby his and joel's name. Why? Because they were chased down by a horde of zombies and Tommy wanted to make communication easier. You know, in a sitation between life and death you have to trust strangers at some point to secure your survival. Also you can't expect a person to attack you after you saved the person's life.
@Lee 80s what? Joel and his brother Tommy, living in Jackson.(Abby knew this) Now tell me the probability that there is another Joel from Jackson who has a brother named Tommy.
Did anyone else notice how you never end up shooting enemies from that far away, and that the bullet drop isn't anything like it is during this scene ?
I never understood this sudden jump in character, I understand Ellie growing up, but its retconn for her to suddenly struggle to have a decent conversation with her foster father. I just wish they gave us a decent reason for it, other than Ellie becomes edgy young adult.
There was a good reason, she learns the truth about how he lied to her, its actually really well done, the good story is hidden behind random flashbacks and cutscenes, make sure you find them all, it will make you feel better
@@gabrielbustamante7468 That's so true, like as much as I loved the flashbacks, what made them better was that their were only a few. So basically we cherish the moments, if it was the whole game then it wouldn't have been as impactful
Not only that. Those that get bitten and actually manage to escape the infected must be a very small minority of people. Chances are, if you are in a situation where you get bitten, you'll get torn apart too. So a vaccine would be fucking useless even if you could mass produce it. And do we really think that the fireflies (who for all their talk of freedom from oppression and saving the world are nothing more that a bunch of violent murderers and terrorists) would just give the vaccine freely to everyone? I very much doubt that.
26:49 the way joel’s breathing is so shaky and his voice trembles telling her to come on after that close call has me tearing up. HE LOVED HER SO MUCH 🥹🥹
i just don’t understand how Naughty Dog thought it was a good idea to make us play half of their new game playing a character we don’t even like because she murders the main character from the first game which was critically acclaimed?? Like wtf they’re supposed to be smart
The first half seems solid. The second half just seems to be a downward spiral to try and get you to feel empathy towards Abby. And the ending is just, really?
The end might have been too much, but deep inside us we know that Ellie still has Tommy, Maria and Dina...yet, Joel is gone and that is the most painful thing ever done in a videogame. If Naughty Dog is serious on making a Third game, I truly hope they give Ellie a new purpose to fight for after Joel’s death. Like she did with him.
No,he somehow survived this headshot, after Dina gave birth to the baby,Ellie decided to give up on getting her revenge, but Tommy tells her where Abby is,then she hunted Abby down again
Yes more of this emotional character building with Joel and Ellie, WTF is this muscular women named Abby, a character nobodies cares about horde more gameplay than Joel, who was the best part of the first game, If the entire game was like this scene, Ellie and Joel living though this infected zombie world, building their character it would be fine, But Instead we got cheap last of us fan fiction written by a ten year old
Joel to Ellie : "there was no cure" (i dont wanna lose you) Joel to Ellie : "you wish things different..." (you wish you die there and hope of mankind become reality) Joel to Ellie : "...i wish things diferent" (yea i hope i can accept to lose you, just for that bullshit, and what if they dont make it?) Joel to Ellie : "... but they ain't" (I dont think so i would sacrifice you for that bullshit)
I really liked what the characters erote in their checkbook, or thing for when they are on patrol, just puts in so much character depth and stuff we *SHOULDVE* had
I think this is where people would say that Joel hasn't lost his cautious side, like where he tells Ellie to put her mask on. But I really think above all else, this is Joel just trying to cover for himself. He harps on Ellie about it for a bit; he seems insecure, like if someone found out Ellie was immune, they would most likely talk to Ellie about how a rampaging maniac destroyed society's chance of getting a vaccine via the one girl who was immune. If there were dozens of people that were immune like Joel said, then Joel wouldn't have as much of a reason to hide it and be "cautious" about that of all things.
I agree, there relationship and how it develops in part two is actually very well done. It should have all been told in chronological order instead of chopped up alongside the the terrible writing that all happened after joel died.

k yells I’m honestly lost I’ve beat the game already and I’m just lost I’m mad,sad annoyed Neil did do a good job on the game he said the last of us 2 was gonna be about hate and anger and that’s how he had everyone in the world feeling not just in the game he did a good job the game was amazing but fuck man if Abby had died by Ellie I would have felt a lil better but her just letting her get away and letting her live annoyed me to the point where I’m just lost I want to replay and I am but it’s hard especially to watch Joel’s death and watching Ellie go on a rampage just to let the Abby go at the end I’m devasted I’m guessing for the last of us 3 Abby is gonna track down Ellie because Abby went back to the fireflies and I’m guessing they have another doctor and there gonna want to get Ellie and Ellie is not going to let them that’s my theory for the the last of us 3 now before anyone says Ellie would give up the cure I doubt it after everything that happened in the last of us 2 Iosing Joel,Jesse and Dina leaving her and her now having a kid I doubt it
Feel bad for her VA

You've taken this completely out of context, Joel was referring to someone finding out that Ellie is immune, stop twisting words around to serve your argument
@@MM-hi man stop defending bad writing it makes you look bad
@@smoker5989 im not defending anything, im just pointing out how flawed his argument is since he's disregarding the context of the scene
In this game, Ellie mentions that Jackson hides their lookouts well (obviously from other people.)
Being in Jackson would put them at more ease than being out in the world, just the two of them; they could be relatively worry-free inside of the walls of Jackson because they know they're being protected.

I can't express how just watching these two is so beautiful. Naughty Dog definitely dropped the ball with the rest of the story but you could see the potential in the flashbacks
The flashbacks were all we really needed for The Last of Us 2.
Loving those flashbacks
They seem better than the rest of the game

Oh man, why can't THIS be the game?!
Y’all mean to tell me that a dude that took out a bloater with a freaking machete got killed by a freaking golf club?!
Well yeah. He’s still human. get enough blows to the head with a golf club it’ll eventually kill you
Lee 80s yeah yeah everything that lead up to it made no sense I’m speaking in terms of physics
@Lee 80s that wouldn't change anything if he didn't confirm it.
@Lee 80s what? Joel and his brother Tommy, living in Jackson.(Abby knew this) Now tell me the probability that there is another Joel from Jackson who has a brother named Tommy.
Joel and ellie in a adventure , this is what we need
Did anyone else notice how you never end up shooting enemies from that far away, and that the bullet drop isn't anything like it is during this scene ?
That Molotov throw fighting the Bloater was a Derp moment if ever I’ve seen one 😂😂
5:18 I had no idea Tommy had a line about Joel’s cooking!
She was like this in the end of the first game too
@@DeutscherPatrick not as drastic

Ok based on the comments, it’s seems everyone would have rather had the flashbacks as the base game rather than what we got instead. And I agree 😤
that would be horrible their would be no plot
@@hh6738 Still would be better than the garbage we got.
I thank god that the people who say that aren't in the gaming industry. Such basic garbage ideas
@@gabrielbustamante7468 That's so true, like as much as I loved the flashbacks, what made them better was that their were only a few. So basically we cherish the moments, if it was the whole game then it wouldn't have been as impactful
The art of conversation would’ve saved so many lives in this game
Let's be honest. Joel was right, there was no cure. Where the hell will you find the resources for mass production in that state of the world?
Not only that. Those that get bitten and actually manage to escape the infected must be a very small minority of people. Chances are, if you are in a situation where you get bitten, you'll get torn apart too. So a vaccine would be fucking useless even if you could mass produce it. And do we really think that the fireflies (who for all their talk of freedom from oppression and saving the world are nothing more that a bunch of violent murderers and terrorists) would just give the vaccine freely to everyone? I very much doubt that.
20:47 How many times did you fail at stealth before you decided to rush in with this beauty of a transition lmao
I just realised that when Joel was describing the Savage Starlight comic, it lowkey foreshadowed Ellie and Abby's final fight
Why couldn’t this story be good?
26:49 the way joel’s breathing is so shaky and his voice trembles telling her to come on after that close call has me tearing up. HE LOVED HER SO MUCH 🥹🥹
All the flashbacks should have been the game.
Let’s not talk about how they switched Joel’s appearance in the game after deceiving us in the trailer nice one naughty dog.
The flashbacks are the best parts in this game
i just don’t understand how Naughty Dog thought it was a good idea to make us play half of their new game playing a character we don’t even like because she murders the main character from the first game which was critically acclaimed?? Like wtf they’re supposed to be smart
NaughtyDog was pretencious and thought we could forgive her but it didn't work
@@smoker5989 it did work. Your just mad joel died and automatically hated the game
The first half seems solid.
The second half just seems to be a downward spiral to try and get you to feel empathy towards Abby.

I really enjoyed the museum scene with the dinosaurs with Joel and ellie
The end might have been too much, but deep inside us we know that Ellie still has Tommy, Maria and Dina...yet, Joel is gone and that is the most painful thing ever done in a videogame. If Naughty Dog is serious on making a Third game, I truly hope they give Ellie a new purpose to fight for after Joel’s death. Like she did with him.

Ellie : « if only they were immune right ? »
Joel :*holding breath
I think this is where people would say that Joel hasn't lost his cautious side, like where he tells Ellie to put her mask on. But I really think above all else, this is Joel just trying to cover for himself. He harps on Ellie about it for a bit; he seems insecure, like if someone found out Ellie was immune, they would most likely talk to Ellie about how a rampaging maniac destroyed society's chance of getting a vaccine via the one girl who was immune. If there were dozens of people that were immune like Joel said, then Joel wouldn't have as much of a reason to hide it and be "cautious" about that of all things.
all of the flashbacks were great in this game
I agree, there relationship and how it develops in part two is actually very well done. It should have all been told in chronological order instead of chopped up alongside the the terrible writing that all happened after joel died.
6:48 this is the same place where Tommy Joel and Abby were surrounded with infected and Abby invites them to her place.
I like how Tommy’s subtitles said Joel was “god” at killing shit
