When I first played through here - I was CONVINCED that this was just a dream....that Ellie and Dina had died on the floor and this was Ellie's final moments. I just feel like it's so contrived and forced. Sheep are dope though.
No one can predict the journey that is life. Ellie couldn't end the suffering, the nightmares of the death of Joel, she though that killing Abby would bring her peace, but then, after remembering the last great conversation with Joel about forgiveness, she knew the pain would not go if she killed that girl, hell, maybe it would never dissappear. What was the point then? This game is about vengeance, but not the kind that makes you say “OH YEAH”, no, this games shows how Abby and Ellie, consumed by vengeance, lost everything.
OMG bad writing durr durr. As if nothing that happened in the second game affected her. You people are so dumb, even when the game spoon feeds you, you still don't get it.
@@michaelgilbert2911 I feel like that's too easy of a story for Naughty Dog to tell. But honestly, I think the game could wrap up the series perfectly because of its ending's ambiguity. Maybe Ellie went after Dina (who probably went back to Jackson since that's the closest thing she has left of a family) to try and make things right. But then again, maybe she'll continue to wander alone until she finds a new life for herself. Afterall, she left her last memento of Joel behind in one last effort to let him go. Maybe she'll avoid Jackson if it reminds her too much of him? Either way, the ending can spin out into whatever you want it to be and I think that makes it perfect.
Agree with setting the scene for last of us 3 but don't think Ellie will die. It will most probably be fireflies would have found a way to make the vaccine without killing her. But of course story will be told in naughty dog style!
Michael Gilbert That’s what I’m banking on. She lost everything important in her life. All she has now is the fact that she is humanity’s last chance so she’s gonna find remaining firefly crew members (if there are any) and kill herself for a cure Naughty Dog owes us tears
I don’t think Ellie was too happy. Sure, she had it all but she was still haunted by Abby and the brutal death of Joel. Looking at her even shows that she’s not in the right place.
That's the lesson the game tries to pass, that vengeance doesn't give you anything, just take from you, Ellie went after vengeance, she lost friends, two fingers, her family, and now, she is alone; Abby went after vengeance, she killed Joel, then Ellie killed her friends, the ones she most loved. If you played Red Dead Redemption 2, you probably remember Arthur saying: "vengeance is a fool's game", this is a lesson to take for life: vengeance gives with one hand (sometimes), and take much more with the other.
Ellie should have stay with Jj and Dina in the first place.. everything is fine until tommy came along and brag this map and everything.. for me personaly the farm was my Ending.
MikeSaiyan yeah I can see why some people do hate it. Her obsession cost her everything she had. She was addicted and Dina saw that. Incredibly sad but I thought it felt real in a way.
I swear I thought this was going to be the ending, with her and JJ looking at the sky, I was saying to myself "what a nice ending *-*" and expecting to get the ending credits.. but nope.
African Logic she wants to be with her, but i guess she was just hurt, because ellie rather wanted to kill a human, they’re over with then staying with her family
@@dermarinelli yes thats right. Dina is just upset that ellie chose to go after vengeance than staying. I think they just went back to jackson and at the end ellie was looking for them.
She chooses continue her quest for vengeance instead of "stay" with her family. I dont know if Ellie can overcome her PTSD after spare Abby's life, but if she doesnt, 2 ways waits for her, commit suicide or becoming in a "solo-inhuman-monster" who kills everybody that stands in her way.
You can't build a castle over the sand. There's no point in building a new life over an incomplete mission, an unfullfiled promise. Abby had to die for this chapter to work, this is the true ending of the game, built upon the dead corpse of that bitch and her little minion.
Ellie believed killing Abby will solve her PTSD But she learnt that killing will bring more killing and no one can rest peacefully. So she choose to stop. Stop these violences. Joel will live in Ellie’s memory ps. Killing Abby. Lev will come for her someday. May be her unlucky day or her weakest day.
Why? So she can watch Potato & Dina get eaten the first time a handful of infected find their isolated farmhouse? Or watch Potato get his brains dashed out and Dina raped and murdered while the same happens to her the first time a band of marauders notices the warm glow of their windows at night, from 5 miles away as they look up at the hill? It's not like it's Beecher's Hope and even that didn't end well.
@@ala1178 That doesn't even make sense. What did I decide? Nothing. I didn't create the characters or the hostile world they live in. The writer did. Then acts like they live in 1950's Kansas, not a post apocalypse war zone. Why is Jackson fortified, manned by armed guards and have armed patrols working in shifts if you can just live safely on a farm by yourself, like the good old days? He put these characters in a place where they're completely exposed, visible for miles to hordes of runners, which are a thing they introduced at the very beginning of the game (thanks, Days Gone), marauding bands of humans, which they stated are still attacking Jackson and they're out there making a ton of noise to attract things that hunt by sound. It's utterly moronic. The only sane part about it was Dina packing up & leaving for somewhere safe. Since the only reason the farmhouse existed was so they could copy the end of RDR2, when they go after Micah. Tommy is Sadie, Ellie is John, Dina is Abigail, Potato is Jack and Abby is Micah. Their farm even looks like Beecher's Hope. It's about as original as mud and makes as much sense as a Joe Biden speech.
Yeah, only if he hadn’t ‘died’, she would still give him ‘too much shit’ like she did. It was a lesson to Ellie that in this world ‘stupid grudges’ shouldn’t undermine relationships, because you never know what can happen tomorrow
In my head Ellie decided to stay, so she’s happy and she still has her fingers. She trusted Dina and has agreed to talk more about Joel. She’s doing better. Still has some flashbacks here and there but she’s doing better. :)
After just playing this to the end (25 hours. Longest playthrough of my life) I have to say, this is how it should have been. Abby and Lev go off to follow the lead from the radio, Ellie and Dina live happily ever after with JJ on their ranch, and all's well.
@@DzinkyDzinkyes, I did see that. Either that or they decided to part ways amicably and Dina gave her the bracelet as a sign of good luck on her travels
If I was Ellie I would’ve stayed. I got my girl,, a kid and I’m far far away from infected and fireflies and shxt. It’s perfect I would’ve stayed with Dina. Ellie would’ve had a happy ending
what if your nightmares never went away? ptsd can drive a person mad and it doesn’t just destroy you, it can destroy the people who love you, too. i’m sure she thought this was the solution, and i don’t know if i would have done differently in her place. me as me, without the trauma would obviously have stayed, dina’s a dream.
@@sgtmian some people just move on she can heal herself by living her new life with Dina and JJ. I would do it if I were here you know having a kid around can set your nightmare free because you're too busy with them. In this case it's obvious that Ellie is stubborn it's in her blood she can't just move on she needs help.
Seeing Ellie as a mom is one of the most touching, heartwarming things I've ever seen in a game- The potato song she sang for J.J is absolutely adorable 😍
J.J? Like Jesse and Joel? That’s really nice. Edit; y’all can calm down now, we don’t have any confirmation yet whether it was Jesse and Joel, Jesse junior or Joel junior because there are two people with J names that died. Edit 2: Now we have confirmation. Neil himself said that’s its NOT junior.
I low key get why she let abby live but.. after killing god knows how many people for revenge you’d think ill kill one last person i mean THE REASON I STARTED MY QUEST IN THE FIRST PLACE
Joel's mission was to travel across country and drop off a little girl to the Fireflies, killing god knows how many people along the way only for him to pull a 180 at the last minute. People make strange decisions when it comes to emotions, whether it's love, anger, or whatever.
mfinite Joel started to see Ellie as the daughter he lost, wouldn’t you do the same if you were in the same situation? On Ellies case, she set out to do one thing and that was revenge on the ones who killed her father figure. Ellie already killed everyone, letting Abby live at the end just make her previous kills worth nothing, just senseless killing. Just like I said in a previous comment, finished what you said out to do. At least her kills will have been meaningful
@@nickpillow5692 Joel still racked up a bunch of dead bodies. Let's not pretend he's a saint here, but because we have a connection with him from the first game we're willing to give him a pass. From Abby's perspective she's just going after the man who was tasked with delivering a girl and went back on his word killing her father and a lot of other people she cared about in the process. Is Abby's motivation for getting revenge on Joel "evil intent" or "justice"? Then is Ellie and Tommy's breaking into a WLF base killing a lot of people that had nothing to do with Joel "evil intent" or "justice"? It comes down to the connection you have with the characters that skews your perspective, even though they all essentially did the same thing.
TaHiTi if anything they should’ve started up a sequel to Ellie having a happy ending in this one. Then a sudden change of heart to try revenge again and this time actually doing it
I just don’t understand why she had to lose her fingers. She already lost everything else and ended up alone. She could have at least still got to keep the ability to play guitar.
It’s symbolism. It reinforces the idea that this quest of revenge consumed her so much that she lost the last thing that Joel really gave her. Also, with time, she may be able to play again. There are plenty of guitarists with missing fingers, which also symbolizes how, with time, she may be able to “heal” from everything that happened.
The ending of the last of us 2 is sad and heartbreaking, but HERE IS WHEN THINGS GET VERY INTERESTING. Ellie leaves Dina to hunt down Abby one last time, she’s wearing Joel’s old jacket and she doesn’t have on Dina’s “lucky bracket”. As she lets Abby go and returns back to the farmhouse, Dina and jj and all of their stuff is gone. When you return to the farmhouse, Ellie doesn’t have on Joel’s coat, but she has on Dina’s bracelet and she looks more healed from her physical wounds. So most likely she read her personal journal, which says that Dina and jj are welcomed to live in Jackson, which was a letter by jesses parents if “things haven’t or don’t work out in the farmhouse”. Most likely Dina left a letter for Ellie and she returned back to Jackson. Making up with Dina and tommy and Ellie returns to the farmhouse one last time for old memories. She attempts to play the guitar one last time. Even though she lost two fingers, they have healed but she can’t play the right notes. I believe Ellie cemented and left her last behind her, trying to deal and get over her PTSD from Joel’s death. Ellie leaves the guitar at the farmhouse as a to say, she’s moved on and has to live her life. She I believe Ellie is still with Dina, and at the very end scene, Ellie is seen leaving the farmhouse, for good hopefully and returning back to Jackson.
JSONIC 045X if Dina didn’t forgive Ellie, she wouldn’t have given ellie the bracelet, plus I feel that Dina is truly in love with Ellie, not no one decision and where done type.
@@ATMPAUL2FUNNY i don't think that Ellie is still with Dina because in the final scene we see Ellie going to the back door of the farm and Jackson is not in that direction but if what you said is true i will be really happy
What I love about the scene with Tommy is that it’s like the angel and the devil on Ellie’s shoulders, Dina (The Angel) represents how she just wants to move on and live a normal life, while Tommy (The Devil) represents part of Joel that she can’t let go, she feels guilty for not being able to save him and being responsible for Jesses death and Tommy’s crippling. Then Dina and Tommy go outside to argue which represents the two sides of Ellie that she doesn’t know which to listen to. Say what you want about this games story but this scene was well done
I love Tommy though. He's right to be playing the role of the devil, as you put it. Especially his flesh and blood was killed in front of him, though, tommy was Ko'ed when it all went down.
@@imankhan1999 Ellie played a similar role at the start of the revenge quest. Maria was likely Tommy's angel while Ellie was Tommy's devil. 1.6 years later, Tommy pays it forward.
Part of me says they ruined Tommy by making him seem bitter and vengeful, another part says that Tommy is dealing with the same shit Ellie is and is totally understandable, and the other part is reminded of how batshit this story is.
yeah...but I heard from somewhere that Joel wouldnt have done what Ellie did...cause he wouldnt have put everybody around him in danger just to get his revenge...he didnt even kill that fedra guy who killed Sarah but who did and probably tortured him aswell was Tommy, so you cant really say that this lust for vengence is a part of Joel...I see it more as just Ellies idea that if she gets her revenge everything somehow goes normal for her...
23:35 This is one of the best scenes in the game. Even though the entire farm sequence was done incredibly well, this scene stands out for me. Their facial expressions, the subtleties in the animations and the atmosphere of the cut scene are all so well done that you feel every emotion as if you're in the room with them. You can say whatever you want about the game, but many scenes, such as this one, are masterfully done.
Dina was a wonderful character and I really liked their relationship. Crossing my fingers for P3 fixing things. That final goodbye was wonderfully acted.
I always loved the subtle symbolism in her fingers and the song. The song is incomplete without her two fingers, her life is incomplete without her two loved ones; and she sacrificed both for a stupid vengeance that she realized was wrong a couple months too late.
All they had to do was let her have Dina. It's okay she didn't get her revenge, she got some kind of closure with Abby, but why the f did they take Dina away from her. Literally the only good thing she had and she lost absolutely everything. She should have gone back to the farm with Dina there and she sings her a crooked version of Take on me (she sings that to her in the beginning in a secret cutscene). The song would have fit perfectly. I have a love-hate relationship with this game, because I loved the whole thing, the game was amazing, but that ending... ruined the game for me. I can't unsee that.
Sometimes things make your uncomfortable for a reason. That’s why this ending is so good. Give it time and think on it. It’s okay to be heartbroken for Ellie. That’s the point of it all.
C3imer A few people were pointing out how she wasn’t wearing Dina’s bracelet when she was in Santa Barbara, but she did when she revisited the farm house. She also had a new set of clothes, and no weapons on her, which imply that she went to Jackson already.
You're missing the lesson of the game. The first game was about love, this was about hate and its consequences. It was about the ultimate price of revenge. Ellie had everything she could have wanted; everything Joel would have wanted for her. A home, family and true happiness. She lost all of it when she decided revenge was more important than family. In the end she was left with nothing.
This should be the end chapter: Ellie kills Abby and Levi at the beach, then time jumps to this chapter, and the game ends with Ellie trying to live a normal life while dealing with PTSD.
This game told us “revenge and violence will solve nothing but left us wounds” Killing will bring more killing. Let Abby goes is to let her grudge goes too
this was the sweetest part of the game. i’m upset ellie left her last chance to have a kind-of normal life. going back to kill abby wasn’t going to do anything for her or for joel. upsetting.
They should have change that revenge shit. Maybe in the beginning go with revenge. But after seeing Dina getting hurt because of her she chose not to go through for fear of that. This scene would be perfect for that choice. Then we see Tommy confronting Ellie maybe saying how Abby is hunting her down. Ellie instead of revenge killing decides to stop Abby for fear of the safety of the people she love. It gives the satisfaction for the fans to kill Abby and it gives a reason for Ellie to not have any revenge shit.
JJ is the embodiment of both Jesse and Joel. They live on through him. Ellie should have turned her revenge into making that kid have the best life he could ever have. In my opinion, when Abby spared Dina and Ellie, that should have been the end of the revenge story with Abby. There should have been a mutual understanding that both were just trying to avenge the people they love. Instead, Ellie had to mess it up. I understand psychologically why she did it. I understand that she couldn't let go and needed clarity. But she HAD clarity in the baby. JJ was the clarity. And she couldn't see that, so she lost everything. Totally devastating. I hope part 3 includes an epic quest for Ellie to get Dina and the baby back, and then maybe a flash-forward to older JJ and we play as him. I don't know how plausible that is, though. It seems like Ellie inevitably and permanently ruined her own life.
i mean, i think she did see that, but she couldn't sleep because she was haunted. she kept scaring her child because she kept reliving her trauma. i'm sure in her mind killing abby felt like the solution to her problems, which to her, was hurting her family.
In the epilogue, I think Ellie forgives Joel, is willing to try to forgive Abby, and especially forgive herself for not repairing her relationship with Joel/saving humanity. It’s a step toward healing, so I think it’s safe to say in the end she’s going to Jackson to reunite with her little family and see that her life still has meaning.
If Ellie had stayed on the farm Abby would be dead. Amazing writing having Ellie leave the farm to kill Abby despite Dina begging her not to, only for her to intentionally save Abby with no reason given, 10/10.
@@phoenixchase9271 except they don’t. According to the director, he points out that Joel didn’t go after the guy that killed Sarah. Using that to state that Joel wouldn’t have killed Abby if she killed Ellie in his place. Completely forgetting the guy died instantly.
I’m realizing now after reading some comments that Dina obviously goes to Jackson which is right down the hill basically and Ellie can easily find them. That makes the ending easier for me at least, also it is insinuated that her PTSD will subside since she found peace through not killing Abby. Chins up friends.
Yeah like a ending where you can stay with Dina or something or you can kill Abby cause I speak for everyone when I say that every one wants to kill her
I agree sm I like games so much that way but I think the problem is not the writing isn’t as good as the first games cuz there weren’t any choices there either..these games are mostly cinematic playable movies unfortunately
Blind hatred, pain and hurt vs a loving partner, family and loving home to be safe in. You really would think that choice would be simple. Eye for an eye......so many choose to not walk away and end up with nothing.
Let's remember Tommy's character backstory. Tommy was a man who saw his own niece die in front of him. He left Joel, HIS OWN BROTHER, for years, because he felt that running around just killing people to survive was wrong and wanted to seek a better cause. He left the Fireflies because he realized their quest was pointless. Years after that, he ended up in Jackson, and tasked himself alongside Maria, to protect hundreds of innocent people. Tommy Miller should therefore be a man who not only understands loss of people close to him, but ALSO understands that wasting time chasing the past and killing because of that past is pointless. So why the hell is Tommy Miller, OF ALL THE FUCKING POSSIBLE PEOPLE, the one who is GUILT-TRIPPING Ellie, HIS ADOPTED NIECE, into wasting her time on a pointless revenge quest? Who wrote this forced bullshit?
he went through a traumatic episode, seeing his brother’s head get smashed again and again could totally change his mind. i mean, it would’ve changed mine.
So FUCKING right!!! I question that myself, I question EVERYTHING about this game except Maria and Dina. The only two that actually made sense through this bullshit!
I dont think there is any purpose in senseless killing. But if someone killed my bro, i would want revenge too. There is a difference between senseless killing vs avenging someone you love
Ellie lost everything: her father, her uncle, her best friend, her family , her shot at a happy ending and even the ability to remember Joel through music... If the ending was gonna be this dark, the least they could have done was letting us make the choice over Abby's fate
@@jellyslopefall572 Why do you say Ellie's story is over. Obviously (from her perspective) her story will go on forever. But for the audience there's still a bit more story need I think. Like what does she do once she leaves?
The reason I think Ellie spare Abby is to make sure Lev wouldn't come after them and Ellie didn't want to kill Lev considering that Lev is the whole reason Dina the baby and Ellie are still alive.
Personally, I think it was because when she saw the flashback of Joel at the last second, she probably thought of how he’d feel. She thought that he wouldn’t have wanted her to go through with something this cold-blooded. It also was the fact that even though Abby was the one who took Joel away from Ellie, Ellie realized that she would be doing the same thing to Lev that Abby did you her, and would truly be no better than Abby. Basically, Ellie came to a realization at the very last possible moment that taking revenge on Abby wouldn’t bring an end to her emotional suffering. Only she could do that for herself.
to be honest/....I still hate Abbys guts ofcourse but that last scene humanized her for me a little bit....you can see that as she is walking away she feels sorry for Ellie
who thought Ellie and Dina's voices sounded almost the same? I had a hard time knowing who was speaking so I tuned subtitles back on. which was odd because I've seen both actresses on tv and in movies.
• 【yunecorn】 • i mean, the voice actors are both white lol. I was pretty confused that Dina got a modeling actor in addition to the voice actor but it makes sense xD
She is in Jackson. She has the bracelet from Dina, there's even a frame that focuses on it, the first frame. This is not coming back from her fight with Abby. Doesn't even have her weapons.
Anyone notice how the night that Joel dies, it's Ellie who is the most driven to avenge Joel and Tommy who is guilted into taking a similar stance. In this scene, the roles are reversed.
Fucking exactly!!! People have the nerve to get mad at tommy for lashing out at Ellie when Ellie did the exact same thing at the beginning to tommy, when all he wanted to do was mourn Joel. Ellie is responsible for all of Tommy's actions and outcomes after that scene.
@@deedeekreep9139 Nah there was a couple years of rationalizing and character development Tommy seems to have just skipped over that Ellie didn't have at the beginning.
Ellies PTSD like flashback with Joel is the darkest bit of the game for me. When she hears him scream for her and shout for help and she can’t get in. It really lets you know she is haunted by the fact she felt helpless during his death and is the catalyst for her final quest for revenge. Scary.
The ending traumatized me for months, but I can't help but feel like this was the best ending. If it just ended at the farm, the whole adventure wouldve been pointless. Ellie got her closure at the cost of her fingers, but also shows that getting revenge won't ever fill the void in your soul
Ellie would have gotten a good ending if she hasn’t left the family, Dina and JJ were only left and all Ellie had to do was just stay with the family and the game would have ended very good!
No a good story would have been not killing Joel I'm pissed about that and also they should have given more an inside look in abbys character because maybe people would have felt more sympathy instead of hating her guts
True but i understand why Ellie left. She had PTSD from Abby killing Joel and she wanted revenge but she doesnt understand killing Abby isnt going to make it go away. I do wish she would've stayed but again she doesnt understand
Let me guess if naughty dog makes The Last of Us Part 3 they're just going to rip away Dina and the baby from us just like they ripped away Joel from us
i cried at the end of the game, when i realized ellie may not get to teach JJ play guitar nor tell him the stories anymore, cuz she lost her 2 fingers and her family, THIS GAME IS SO CRUEL, ELLIE DESERVES A BETTER ENDING ;((((
To me, the epilogue seemed all about forgiveness and healing. I’m pretty sure she’s going to go to Jackson and reunite with Dina and JJ and show herself that her life still has meaning despite the fact she couldn’t give herself up to save humanity.
god i love this part of the game. its so beautiful, yet almost eerie in a way. its too calm for a game like this, almost like you know from the start something bad would happen.. and that would be ellie not being able to forgive abby, when abby has already forgiven herself. the ending of the game is absolutely heartbreaking but its also extremely beautiful. this is a revenge story with no heroes.
I like how in the dinosaur birthday cutscene Ellie asks Joel if it was the same movie and Joel replys It was the sequel and plain out says it wasn't good at all, guess Joel saying sequels are bad is true for this game too
This is how the game should have ended. Sure we don't know what ultimately came of Abby, but that's kind of the point of how meaningless and ultimately unfulfilling revenge is. Ellie has a happy farm life but is haunted by the past and the monster she had become due to her need for revenge, and has no idea that Abby herself is a prisoner suffering as well. The message of revenge being pointless would have been just as poignant without the cliche final fist fight. Would have also made the flashback of Joel and her making amends more powerful as Ellie is now with her wife and child, and then she could have played the guitar for her child in remembrance. Am I looking too much into it? Yes.
No, I agree this is how the game should have ended. Personally I would have liked it if Ellie had to make a choice between saving Dina or going after Abbie in some dramatic fashion, and she ultimately chooses to saves Dina. That or they could have made it a choice. In choice A, you choose to go after Abbie (Dina dies), you kill her and then you have the tragic ending in which Ellie can't even play the guitar to remember Joel, showing how pointless and self-destructive her quest for revenge was. In Choice B, you save Dina, Abbie gets away, and Ellie is haunted by Joel's death, but ultimately she learns to live a peaceful life with her new family and the ending scene is her playing Joel's song to Dina and their child. I honestly don't understand why the writing decision was made to show how pointless revenge was and yet not have the act of vengeance take place. I mean she already slaughtered several dozen people, if not more, to get to Abbie. She gave up everything to kill Abbie. Then she just decides not do it? That's not really how the human mind operates. Sunken-Cost Fallacy alone would have made her see it through. Part of me is wondering if they get Abbie alive in the hopes she'll be in DLC spin-off or sequel. But given the reception her character has received, I don't see it happening.
It’s so sad how much Ellie was struggling with ptsd and I think partly manipulated by Tommy’s need for revenge, so she took her own ptsd as a deep-seated longing need to kill Abby. In the end it caused even more loss, but at least she realised the cycle of revenge doesn’t work and it just causes more and more hurt until someone calls it quits. I really hope there’s a happy ending
Abby should’ve died, then a time jump of about a year happens with Ellie living with Dina and their baby. The game should’ve ended with Ellie talking to JJ about Joel. In her journal, Ellie expresses that it hurts a lot to talk about Joel, so this would be a good character moment in my opinion
Rahul Singh who said that’s what made it bad? I actually like dark games. I just don’t think this game did it well. There’s multiple plot holes, awful characters who make unbelievable decisions, unnecessary scenes, generic plot etc. I respect whoever likes the game but we can’t ignore the major flaws the story has.
The ending isnt sad, and Ellie isnt alone either, at the end Ellie forgives Joel and goes back to Dina (if she hasnt already, seeing as she has her bracelet back when she didn't have it when she left for santa bárbara) so yeah, it's a happy ending people
I still like this game no matter what you guys said and yes, I have watched it (haven't played it yet) UPDATE: I have played it already and I still like it
An uncomfortable look at obsession and consequences. To make this sequence the epilogue would’ve been a cop out. They meant to truly show what hatred does to a person and how it affects not only you but the people you love. People are used to revenge stories being justified, one sided, and ending with satisfaction. Naughty Dog sought to challenge that archetype and take it deeper on the human scale instead of just giving people conventional storytelling. I LOVE that they had the balls to make this story. Life is often unfair, unpredictable, and void of closure.
@@joshuawillis602 what they needed? The fuck did you get that from. They didn’t even want to answer questions the first game posed. All they cared about was division and polarization. That’s it. That’s the whole reason the game is this way. The game doesn’t want to involve the players. Neil even says the game makes no judgements on you. Hell, Neil doesn’t even say the game is about revenge either. He just wanted division. That’s it. That’s what I find shallow, and find myself not caring. Which is ironic because that’s what he doesn’t want. ND didn’t give them anything, and so many games give players what they don’t want and they love it. But this game doesn’t give you anything. By the words of the director himself, it makes no judgments on you.
Well said. After just finishing the game, I started appreciating more about the complexity in relationships that they are trying to tell in this story.
11:55 to 12:45 is the strongest cutscene in the game, as neil did a great job to remain the player how ellie felt after she saw joel death in front of her eyes. But still, neil screwed it up in that ending by not killing the muscled bitch.
I know why Ellie left and why she did the things she did but honestly I don’t think Joel would’ve wanted her to leave her family. After everything she has lost. I was heartbroken, hopefully they find each other again
The theory is Dina and Ellie and JJ are in Jackson happily as a family why? When you went to Santa Barbara you did not have Dina’s bracelet. When you came back you had it back on, if Dina loved Ellie as much as she seemed to, she wouldn’t have gave it back. Also in the epilogue you have no weapons no gun holster nothing she doesn’t have blood on her side area like she did. When she went into the house nothing was there Ellie didn’t even say anything. Also when you are with Dina at the farm there’s a note on the table from Jesse’s parents saying their more than happy to let them stay at their place in Jackson. Lastly when Ellie returned back in the room with her gutair it was there once she tried to play it she realized she couldn’t anymore this means if she wanted to continue on with her family she would have to leave Joel’s past behind and move on. After she left her gutair and was simply walking back to her family that’s the theory which honestly there’s no way it could be wrong too much evidence that supports it it’s like a secret ending.
If Ellie loved Dina she would have stayed with her. By leaving Dina and JJ Ellie basically said she hated Abby more then she loved them. And she didn't give a shit about what the effects on them would be if something had happened to her.
ELLIE AND DINA ARE STILL TOGETHER!! Someone pointed this out, before Ellie left to find Abby, she wasn't wearing Dina's bracelet, not even during the fight scene. But when she returns to the house, she is! Which suggests that Dina had given it back to her when she returned! Also notice how Ellie doesn't have any weapons with her and also has a change of clothes? Yeah. I think Ellie came back home, saw Dina had moved back to Jackson and went to reconcile with her. Then after some months, Ellie probably went out hunting and decided to revisit their old home, where she remembered her old guitar and played one last tune on it before leaving it behind, signifying that she had come to terms with Joel's death and was moving on.
To all of those who are judging Ellie for abandoning her family, let me just tell you that vengence is a powerful emotion, and it can really eat you from inside.
The animation on Dina’s face is insane! A slight eye roll when she says “We’ll talk about it tomorrow.” The subtleties where you can tell deep down she’d rather Jesse be there because Ellie’s PTSD is starting to become a burden. Like it’s been a year or however of dealing with it but she’s starting to get annoyed.
Uh…I don’t think it’s a subtle detail for a hidden meaning. It’s just Dina trying to sweep what happened under the rug delicately to deter Ellie from thinking about going after Abby again. 😅 I think you’re reaching a little too much.
this farm looks too clean and safe, that no infected or hostile survivor attacking such place with no high walls or security, I thought this was a dream sequence, but it's actually real.
I never noticed before that the song Ellie plays is a cover of Johnny Cash’s Ain’t No Grave. Very clever foreshadowing and lends a sinister edge to a scene that’s wholesome right up until it really isn’t.
I do believe their story is not over Ellie will go back to Jackson and Dina will be there happy to see Ellie is still alive Their story is not over 😇😇😇😇😇
When I first played through here - I was CONVINCED that this was just a dream....that Ellie and Dina had died on the floor and this was Ellie's final moments. I just feel like it's so contrived and forced. Sheep are dope though.
What was forced about that part??
The idyllic farm life - literally moving to a farm upstate. EVERYTHING working out but she still wants to commit horrible murder
@@VideoGameSophistry that didn't seem forced at all. I understood how that could've bothered her. Plus Tommy's rant. Yeah that was tuff.
I thought dina died too, because of how close the arrow in her heart plus the bang on the head.

Ellie TLoU Part 1: "I don't want to end up all alone."
Ellie TLoU Part 2:
West Air that’s the ironic and sad part
She might still have this: look for the wrist band theory.
Probably will still be a loner in Part 3.
dina was the only constant left in ellies life and when that ended i just-
erika le I shipped Dina and Ellie so fking hard my mind exploded when they lost that

How did she die?
Allie Sargent Dina didn’t. I’d tell you what happened but it would spoil the game.
Ellie: has a family and a quaint little farm
Naughty Dog: I’m about to end this girls whole happy ending
There setting up last of us 3 they not slick , she’s gonna die and save humanity her character arc isn’t complete
Michael Gilbert That’s what I’m
banking on. She lost everything important in her life. All she has now is the fact that she is humanity’s last chance so she’s gonna find remaining firefly crew members (if there are any) and kill herself for a cure
Naughty Dog owes us tears
I don’t think Ellie was too happy. Sure, she had it all but she was still haunted by Abby and the brutal death of Joel. Looking at her even shows that she’s not in the right place.
After taking everything from Ellie, they should've just let her have her family.
Dina and the little one obviously went to Jackson, nowhere else for them to go for safety anyway, no doubt Ellie went there looking for them.
@@Knight121198 i hope this is true. I really dont want dina and ellie and jj to separate.

They should have let her have this.
Yeah... I agree. The current ending of the game was more than unnecessary. It should have ended with Ellie finally having a family and being happy.
Andrew187 while pessimistic, you’re right. That’s exactly what would have happened.
@@Andrew-fq7pu that's not for you to decide .

People make strange decisions when it comes to emotions, whether it's love, anger, or whatever.
mfinite makes sense, i know all the people killed in this game that had nothing to do with Joels death are mad though lol
mfinite Joel didn’t kill with evil intent like Abby
mfinite Joel started to see Ellie as the daughter he lost, wouldn’t you do the same if you were in the same situation?
I just don’t understand why she had to lose her fingers. She already lost everything else and ended up alone. She could have at least still got to keep the ability to play guitar.
TLOU2 writers probably want Ellie to move on by cutting the last connection she had to her previous life
Yusuf Efendi the writers didn’t know what the fuck they wanted one bit with this game
Yusuf Efendi *literally*
@@incanate92 relax dude, abby cut's ellies finger by her mouth when they are fighting, thats why she lost her fingers.
Here’s to hope, but after that big argument that Dina and Ellie has before she left makes me doubt that Dina will forgive Ellie

1.6 years later, Tommy pays it forward.

yeah...but I heard from somewhere that Joel wouldnt have done what Ellie did...cause he wouldnt have put everybody around him in danger just to get his revenge...he didnt even kill that fedra guy who killed Sarah but who did and probably tortured him aswell was Tommy, so you cant really say that this lust for vengence is a part of Joel...I see it more as just Ellies idea that if she gets her revenge everything somehow goes normal for her...
23:35 This is one of the best scenes in the game. Even though the entire farm sequence was done incredibly well, this scene stands out for me. I lowkey hope she somehow went back to Jackson and got to live with Dina and JJ

They had so many moments for Ellie to kill her as self defense and decide to go with a badly written revenge plot
Glad you weren’t on the development team
I JUST noticed that Dina's humming "take on me" in the beginning... crying sobbing throwing up rn
Imagine older JJ and Abby/Lev somehow bump into each other and JJ introduces himself as “Joel” to Abby/Lev

@@rebecateixeira3205 except he was knocked out during that
Bruh what? Have you played the game???
I dont think there is any purpose in senseless killing. But if someone killed my bro, i would want revenge too. There is a difference between senseless killing vs avenging someone you love
Ellie lost everything: her father, her uncle, her best friend, her family , her shot at a happy ending and even the ability to remember Joel through music... If the ending was gonna be this dark, the least they could have done was letting us make the choice over Abby's fate
At least Ellie showed mercy that proves there is still that little girl in there somewhere
Ellie’s story is basically over (and also Joel sadly). If there were to be a part 3, it will likely be Abby and Lev
That may have been the case but it all could've been handled and written SO much better. Like it makes me sad ngl.
Lev is the reason Tommy couldn't kill Abby.
ABBY MAD
ABBY SMASH
I had a hard time knowing who was speaking so I tuned subtitles back on. which was odd because I've seen both actresses on tv and in movies.
thought i was the only one lol they sound very similar
• 【yunecorn】 • i mean, the voice actors are both white lol. I was pretty confused that Dina got a modeling actor in addition to the voice actor but it makes sense xD
Am I the only one that realized Ellie's haircut resembles Sarah's? 🤔
:O
Holy burning shit, you are right!
Omg I just noticed that Dina was humming take on me while washing the dishes
She is in Jackson. She has the bracelet from Dina, there's even a frame that focuses on it, the first frame. This is not coming back from her fight with Abby. Doesn't even have her weapons.
So their ending is happy?
@@F.Deadbeat yea probably
No. There is no answer. They wanted this ending to avoid that.

2 worst mistakes Ellie has made this is #1.
1st mistake: *leave her family*
2nd mistake: *Save Abby just to try to kill her and spare her live seconds later*
Ellies PTSD like flashback with Joel is the darkest bit of the game for me. When she hears him scream for her and shout for help and she can’t get in. It really lets you know she is haunted by the fact she felt helpless during his death and is the catalyst for her final quest for revenge. Scary.
I get why Ellie didn't kill Abby a wise outlaw from the west once said "sometimes revenge is a fools game".
We always remember that Outlaw for who he is
bro ur making me sad
but thats so true
I took a screen pic on ps4 when Ellie sits on tractor wirh Potato. Makes the perfect ps4 dashboard theme.
Bruh I did the same thing background is done can’t wait for you to see it 🙏😱
The ending traumatized me for months, but I can't help but feel like this was the best ending.
@@jakegriff2908 killing Joel is a good idea but not at the way we saw 😞
True but i understand why Ellie left. She had PTSD from Abby killing Joel and she wanted revenge but she doesnt understand killing Abby isnt going to make it go away. I do wish she would've stayed but again she doesnt understand

Omygad no, then i read the comment first before watching it somewhere.
Well, this is a game about the end of the world, I wouldn't expect anything else
Except that Joel is a well developed character who is universally loved and Dina/JJ are just plot devices.
I hope not
i cried at the end of the game, when i realized ellie may not get to teach JJ play guitar nor tell him the stories anymore, cuz she lost her 2 fingers and her family, THIS GAME IS SO CRUEL, ELLIE DESERVES A BETTER ENDING ;((((
To me, the epilogue seemed all about forgiveness and healing. I’m pretty sure she’s going to go to Jackson and reunite with Dina and JJ and show herself that her life still has meaning despite the fact she couldn’t give herself up to save humanity.
Where is dina? She just leave jackson right?
"I can't walk on the path of the right because I'm wrong"
god i love this part of the game. its so beautiful, yet almost eerie in a way. its too calm for a game like this, almost like you know from the start something bad would happen.. and that would be ellie not being able to forgive abby, when abby has already forgiven herself. the ending of the game is absolutely heartbreaking but its also extremely beautiful. this is a revenge story with no heroes.
I like how in the dinosaur birthday cutscene Ellie asks Joel if it was the same movie and Joel replys It was the sequel and plain out says it wasn't good at all, guess Joel saying sequels are bad is true for this game too
Sorta felt like he was talking to the player eh
I thought he was talking about the Jurassic Park movies lol
Yes.
What a bad ending.
You're looking into it more than the writers did which is a problem
Man this would've been so much better
They knew how the fans wanted the game to be, you could see it in the way they edited the trailers for the game.
The game should just end here.
Game ended with the first one.

It would have, if not for Tommy.
I could die happy if this was the ending, just Ellie living with the love of her life on a farm, with J.J.

stopping at 21:51 for my mental health. she went back to bed and started to heal with her little family ❤️ (wdym i’m delusional?)
Damn right sirrr

This has to be one of the most overhatted games of all time.
True but the criticism is very valid. This games story had a lot of flaws.
@@poett8875 you need to give a second thought to the story. Just because it is dark and hopeless doesn't mean it's bad.

Seeing ellie as mother and having a son is quite a wholesome 🥰🥰🥰👪
Everyone knows about Joel, but keep in mind that Abby also murdered that baby's father and Ellie still let her go.
Dina let that go. Because she realized it wouldn't help.
Abby could've killed Dina and Ellie after seeing Owen and Mel dead but she lets them go, whats your point?
@@MM-hi Thats her mistake
@@averevolution301 You do realise that if Abby didn't let Ellie go she wouldve died on the pillars? By sparing Ellie she saved herself
The only reason Abby spared Dina and Ellie, was because of Lev. Had Lev not been there, she would have killed them.
Exactly. People be talking about “they don’t give us what we want” but any company can do that, naughty dog gave it’s fans what they “needed”
Jaron Alexander bitch took all the damn food didn’t leave Ellie any
@@joshuawillis602 what they needed?
THIS is the life I want for me
My girl or my boy, with a baby, a few animals, and a place to live far away of everything
11:55 to 12:45 is the strongest cutscene in the game, as neil did a great job to remain the player how ellie felt after she saw joel death in front of her eyes.
But still, neil screwed it up in that ending by not killing the muscled bitch.
CANT FORGET THAT NEIL SPAT ON JOEL AND THOUGHT HE WOULD GET NO HATE 🙄
Not trying to rude, but there's a difference between an ending you don't like and an ending that's bad.
A middle eastern dude not trying to be a homophobic ass, something new
I know why Ellie left and why she did the things she did but honestly I don’t think Joel would’ve wanted her to leave her family.
I had tears in my eyes watching Ellie yelling like that thinking of Joel
So dina just...left?
Yeah. It’s actually sad because Ellie’s fear came true.
Damn.

The subtleties where you can tell deep down she’d rather Jesse be there because Ellie’s PTSD is starting to become a burden.
