As always, wonderful review! Thank you for the honest insight and your thoughts on the whole event. I've always felt like it's a bit much, especially for newcomers. I myself fall into the same category as you, unless it's Batman or Superman I don't know much about the DC universe. I'll probably pass this one up, I still need to work through the Green Lantern Omni's that I bought after watching your videos. So I've got plenty to keep me reading for a while. Keep up the great work, I always look forward to your reviews.

Yeah this definitely isn't a good story for anyone new to DC comics, there's far too much going on for it to be accessible. Those Green Lantern books however, are excellent reads!

Another great review, I really love these videos, giving potential buyers such as myself a look at books and also and insight into the quality of the stories. Keep up the good work man.

The Dark Crisis event happening currently in DC ties in into this, particularly with the return of Pariah. Great review as always!

DC needs to stop making these "Crisis" comics. They are butchering the legecy of this comics to a cheap gimmick.
They have turned most of the survivors to villains - Superboy Prime, Pariah, and whoever else.

Great to see this one on your channel. I have mixed feelings with the original Crisis. I think the idea was necessary for DC to try and fix it's continuity, and it did work. However the story itself is a huge juggling act, and it's really easy for anyone (especially newcomers) to get confused. Even today I'm afraid to go back and read it, because I'd feel like I'd need a huge cup of coffee. Which is why I haven't bought the omni yet. At least Perez was up to the challenge, and did a remarkable job. I think I can see what you mean with Marv Wolfman's writing at times, as it did go up and down for me with The New Teen Titans. I'm also with you on anything pre-crisis for DC. It's mostly a big blur for me other than New Teen Titans and some key Batman stories.

Yeah this one's a mixed bag, more a product of necessity in needing to streamline continuity than a product of any great creative vision. It's not bad, but it's all a bit too convoluted to be fully enjoyable. But DC comics did get a lot more readable and easy to follow after this so at least that was accomplished!

Great video. Two years ago I read this book. It was really difficult for me to read and understand all those characters involved. Really hard to finish it. My first great event of DC was the Death of Superman and then Zero Hour, but before that nothing from DC. I Will give a try again soon. Thank You for the video.

Yeah this isn't the most accessible story, I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone just getting into reading DC

I agree. This is a very important story for DC, but confusing if you don't know DCs Silver Age pretty well.
But on the other hand, given the monumental task of simplifying the DC Multiverse, I doubt that anyone else would have been able to do much better.

In defense of Mr Wolfman, the comic is complex. Multiple timelines/universes are being destroyed one after another. It is the end of the world; so, things are chaotic. And like Infinity War and Endgame, different teams are divided to find parts of the solution.
But like comics 20, 30 or 50 years old, I am sure some of the dialogues might seem strange or natural.
However, I think the story is sound. But if you or anyone is a young reader or did not grow up reading pre-Crisis comics, this is probably not necessary reading. There are many things you will not appreciate. Mr Wolfman and Mr Perez is inserting characters that have not been in comics for 5 or 10 or 20 years - from the Silver Age comics and Charlton Comis or those created by Jack "The King" Kirby. A lot of these are even before my time; so, I can understand if it is not hitting you the same way older readers might have.
The art, however is still great, especially the latter issues inked by Jerry Ordway.

It absolutely is a complex story dealing with a huge amount of characters and concepts so I fully appreciate it would have been a tough task for any writer. I'm a big fan of older comics generally, some silver and bronze age stories/runs are amongst my all time favourites, this one just didn't really do it for me

Given how important this story is in DC's history I'd have to say yeah I'm sure it will at least get another Absolute printing, but they're pretty unpredictable with omnibuses so that's harder to predict

The deluxe edition is a perfectly fine way to read it, the problem is that the story itself is just hard to get to grips with if you're not already pretty familiar with the pre-Crisis DC continuity in my opinion

I treated this book like the Bible. You're thrown a bunch of names that I'm sure most people ever heard of and would take a ridiculous amount of time to find out each characters background. If you just read the book for the plot you'll be fine. Just remember positive and negative in nature and you'll understand.
