It's quite surprising how the spotlight always seems to favor LMP1 over LMP2, even when someone like Jann Mardenborough nails a podium finish in the LMP2 category at 2013 Le Mans. yeah because in case you didn't know, both Porsche motorsport and Audi are smaller companies of the same larger parent corporation, and clearly it would be silly to have them competing against each other season after season, internal conflicts possibly arising. Porsche knew well ahead of time back in the late 90s that Audi was making a huge investment towards a long term commitment to Le Mans, and gauranteed at least even in some way, maybe extremely minor, from Porsches extremely illustrious history there. Dont think for one second that anyone, audi or whomever could sustain success like that. 2015 was clear indication of this.
He never came close to winning this race, in fact he only participated in 1 notable race in 2024, so don’t base your thinking on a semi-realistic movie which tried to pass off the Hungaroring in Budapest as Le Mans. As a real, long-time fan of motor racing that film was enjoyable but the inaccuracies drove me absolutely bonkers.
It kept switching between Le Mans and Budapest. It was always unrealistic. The crashes, though, were actually pretty decent in that regard as I did see a video of a crash almost exactly like the movie, but I think it was a different year.
