I'm much older than Jann, but I raced with him when we were in a league called "Race World Series." After my experience with Forza (many years), I wanted something better, but still in the Xbox console. That game was "Race Pro." Made by the guys that made the SimBim race simulation for PC. It played like a PC on the Xbox. I found the league because there were few places to race console games without assists, and without the races just being a few laps. Jann won the Independent Driver award and I won it the next season. Jann was also getting into the Gran Turismo game. Not because if was better than Race Pro, but because it had a pretty fantastic prize for winning. He called us during a race and told us he won the whole thing. Gran Turismo is just another race movie that gets the actual racing all wrong. :Like the things with the driving line and his ability to pass whenever he felt like it. But you can get an ulcer waiting for a race movie to be authentic. So I'll keep waiting for something that tells the truth. p.s. I'm racing on iRacing now, and I've won a few things here and there, but I'm no alien. Funny thing, they made another movie about something I did as a kid, racing up on Mullholland Highway. That’s why is called “based on a true story”, if its 100% factual it’ll just be a documentary of jann, which will be less entertaining and isn’t marketable.
My favorite movie of all time and am addicted to Racing sims now. Glad to see that Jann started with a ps3 controller as I still use mine to play assetto corsa
The movie was really good. But 3 things really frustrated me in the movie. First is the fact that this true story happened in like 2010 but we see him playing gt7 which is the newest game. Second is when they push him in the wall in the race. Like, bro that would be an IMMEDIATE disqualification. The races in this game are less realistic, but depic what races in the actual gt games look like lmao. Honestly if I was Jann, idk how I'd feel about them putting unrealistic racing in a movie about my life story. Third, in 4 races in the movie, the virtual race, gt academy race, 4th place race, and le mans, Jann has a photo finish in all of them, which not only makes it boring to happen 4 times, but it's also very rare for that to happen irl.
Jann actually was a stunt double for the actor that played him. He also auditioned for his own role but at that point it was too late + Jann had no acting experience and they couldn't risk it with the movie already being so pricey
I wasn't expecting much at first going into the theater, the movie was so good I ended up watching the movie twice. To bad the movie have a bad stigma having the first impression of being an video game advertisement movie. I didn't knew director Neil Blomkamp made this movie until the ending credits.
They put CSL DD and T-GT in 2011. Direct drive's first release in 2013 and took few years to become popular. Until 2015 belt driven like T500 of Thrustmaster remain crispy in simracing
I DONT WANNA HEAR THE HATE FR CAN WE JUST APPRECIATE THE RISKS AND ECT THEY TOOK TO MAKE THIS AMAZING FILM THIS WAS ALL REAL REAL DRIVERS REAL EVERYTHING AND ALSO JANN HIMSELF LOVES THE MOVIE AND EVEN WAS A STUNT DRIVER IN THE FILM HE IS OKAY WITH THE CHANGES THEY MADE BECAUSE ITS ENTERTAINMENT AND MAKES YOU FEEL A TYPE OF WAY I CANT EVEN EXPRESS HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS MOVIE HANDS DOWN THE BEST
my personal experience with the GT Academy that year as I've made it all the way to round 3 is that, the academy is just a marketing gimmick, they don't want people to know but the truth is they allow cheating and infinite entries.
that American GT sequel better be on their pockets or stashed on some chest, I had fun watching this movie. the only problem are the shaky cams and constant camera switching. should've learn from John Wick more focused camera handling.
Probably the best piece of trivia is the actress who plays jann's mom in the movie. She's the real life wife of red bull f1 team boss Christian Horner, and a former spice girl 😂😂😂 Crazy that they got geri Horner in the movie
I don't understand why his story was picked. He didn't win first in any race! None of the gran turismo winners did good haha. Nissan wasted a lot of money on the winners, when they could have scouted some karting racers (where most racers start)
I mean it's a movie I never believe a movie that says "bases on a true story" lol. When GT first came out it was the first Racing game I ever played and I fell in love. I fell off the game over the years. I never knew about this competition or the academy but if I did I would have absolutely loved to have entered it. I always wanted to race still would love to but it is entirely ashame they ended the academy and program.
the first thing that bothers me about the movie is that they say they're at Silverstone yet the track they are using is Hungaroring in Hungary and driving it in reverse (though the last corner they use is also wrong
This movie made me get gt7, honestly I'm happy they didnt make the business guy want to throw him out the whole movie, I won't lie I was expecting them to go that route and was happily proved wrong
How about them playing GT7 on PS5? Not exactly accurate for the time the movie takes place. But I get it. Who wants to see old graphics on the big screen?
The part where the gold lambo flipped like 10 times and totally got recked and the guy came out totally fine not even a concussion or scrap realized this was a bunch of dog shit

My fav was when they had an lmp3 beat an lmp2 and lmp1 and the gte quali over the lmp1
Edit: another thing, the lemans track was just the hungaroring painted different, the last corner in the movie is a hairpin and in real life it is a double chicane
Yeah I noticed that
Yes, not sure why they did that. Not like Le Mans should be that expensive to rent.
Considering the 24hr track includes public roads, it makes sense to use a dedicated track @@easyenetwork2023
@@easyenetwork2023 Le Mans is not a permanent circuit, so not only you would have to rent the permanent parts, you have to block the public roads for serveral months, and that is not cheap considering how many money they already spent on the cars
@@protalukoriginal4560 Well they had some more convincing shots of Mulsanne straight. -and a crash seemingly around Mulsanne corner somewhat reminiscent of Romain Grosjean's horror fireball crash at Bahrain. If they can't get the real circuit or a convincing substitute, just do it in CG. Don't try to tell me the last corner of le mans is a long hairpin.
Just watched it...GREAT MOVIE!!!
one of the best driving movies ever made, they did so much justice to the game. they missed an opportunity to use a better gtr though
So Jack Salter was like "Doc" and Jann is "McQueen"😂
I followed the story in DSPORT magazine, they followed his progress and accomplishments. They are an import car mag, the founder helped start the IDRC, built the fastest 1st gen Eagle Talon on tbe streets, has a badass RH8 R33 GT-R, and a mechanical and aeronautical engineering degree from USC-Irvine i believe. Thank him and his buddies for imports being quick w 4 cylinders and a turbo, Michael Ferrara, give credit
How did I fall to recognize Geri Halliwell?!?!?
I still have her Spice Girl fashion dolls displyed on a shelf in my room!!!!
Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! 🤦😲🤦😲🤦😲
Same I'm surprised that geri is in the movie when i saw her i said looks familiar when the credits started i saw her name wait that's Christian Horner's wife
This movie should have been stated as "Inspired By A True Story" because it takes too many liberties to say that it's "based" on Mardenborough's actual career. Amazing movie still, definitely gonna watch it again!
Enjoy your next viewing!
You can’t have a “based on a true story” movie with a lot of wrong facts
It's because it's based on a true story. It is made to represent a true story.
That’s practically every historical movie Hollywood has ever produced! They care more about entertainment and profit over historical accuracy. 🎥 💰
That’s why is called “based on a true story”, if its 100% factual it’ll just be a documentary of jann, which will be less entertaining and isn’t marketable.
Bro it's not a biopic
u dont really understand what "based on a storymeans" huh
It's a shame that this competition went away
For me it was the fact that they used the GTR instead of the 370z when he won the contract.
GTR fanbase in the world wayyyy bigger than 370z
According to the movie every track in this world is Hungaroring
@@unline8197 yeah he was so he agreed with everything about the movie. No complaints I’m just saying some things were not realistic.
I am just happy video game movies / live adaptations are getting better and better. First The Last of Us, and now this
this movie is so underrated its a crime
Crazy that i never heard of the GT Academy before this movie. I’m pretty into video games but had no idea.
Quite informative 👍😎🎬 tks a lot
11:54 oh yeah the tragic accident at the Nurbugring.
12:13 never let an american pronounce the nürburgring ever again
I wasn't expecting much at first going into the theater, the movie was so good I ended up watching the movie twice. To bad the movie have a bad stigma having the first impression of being an video game advertisement movie. I didn't knew director Neil Blomkamp made this movie until the ending credits.
I actually liked the drama with the fictional driver Capa
i am sure nicholas capa is based on nikita mazepin
That’s not how nikita is irl right?
@@matthew_natividad less attitude, but similar driving skills lol
12:10 „Nordschliefer“ 😂😂😂
6:16 welcome to 2024 🎉😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Did that bird really say Nürburgring Nordschlifer???😂😂😂😅😅😅
Love your videos guys🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
how much is watchmojo paying you
Based on true story or not, this movie is absolutely stunning!
They put CSL DD and T-GT in 2011. Direct drive's first release in 2013 and took few years to become popular. Until 2015 belt driven like T500 of Thrustmaster remain crispy in simracing
I can’t lie the way he “takes his own line” is like watching someone overtake on easy mode
0:10 “Grand tureezmo” lol what, bros got a speech impediment or something
great work with the video but the fact you mis pronounced nordschleife is a bit sad but love the content
Without a protagonists a movie about competition will be so hard to make.
2:59 bro did not just say “24 hours of Dubai”
It’s “24 hours of Le Mans”
Wait so this is a REAL STORY?..not just movie about a game..?🤨🤨
Story of a gamer becoming a professional racing driver through the competition Sony/Gran Turismo made.
Yeah, I competed too at GT Academy
@@PatrickMonitoreno you didn’t
@@Crawdoodle How can you know that? I wasn't at the race camp at Silverstone but near to the first seats for it
@@PatrickMonitore I’ll double down.
No
You
Didn’t
She's the real life wife of red bull f1 team boss Christian Horner, and a former spice girl 😂😂😂
Crazy that they got geri Horner in the movie
3:57 he threw a gang sign
this movie was downright AMAZING!
Silverstone at the hungaroring and le mans at hungaroring just triggered me
and that one track at barcelona
Ok?
If he wasn't the first winner, i wonder why they chose Jann, instead of the other two that won before him. 🤔
Because of his podium at le mans?
@taekwoncrawfish9418 Yeah like bruh that's no small feat especially considering how Jann started out
Better than "Drive to Survive."
I had no idea that this contest existed movie was definitely entertaining
I don't understand why his story was picked. He didn't win first in any race! None of the gran turismo winners did good haha. Nissan wasted a lot of money on the winners, when they could have scouted some karting racers (where most racers start)
I like the movie because it's my opinion, just like how others might not.
obviously the film took some liberties, but i still enjoyed it and wholeheartedly recommend it
Thus was one of the best movies ive dver seen. The race scenes was incredibly intense
Gran ‘Tureesmo’ and headset mic quality what is this
Yes, watched GT Academy
The biggest think that bothered me is that the one race took place at Goodwood.
Does Martin have girlfriend is right or wrong?
Because gamer doesn't have time for women 👊😎
Most sim racing streamers I follow have wives, and significant others
I mean it's a movie I never believe a movie that says "bases on a true story" lol.
When GT first came out it was the first Racing game I ever played and I fell in love. I fell off the game over the years. I never knew about this competition or the academy but if I did I would have absolutely loved to have entered it. I always wanted to race still would love to but it is entirely ashame they ended the academy and program.
The climax race was held at the wrong track. They were at the Hungaroring in Hungary instead of Circuit de la Sarthe in France
the first thing that bothers me about the movie is that they say they're at Silverstone yet the track they are using is Hungaroring in Hungary and driving it in reverse (though the last corner they use is also wrong
This movie made me get gt7, honestly I'm happy they didnt make the business guy want to throw him out the whole movie, I won't lie I was expecting them to go that route and was happily proved wrong
Don't forget all kind of cars, classes and tracks that are wrong
Good movie, watched it on a plane ride. Only thing, Jann and Matty were separated by Milliseconds, why not take both.
That's why it says "Based On True Story". Not "True Story".
But is his voice crack before using his alternate racing line real?
Why does Jack Salter feel like Doc Hudson in Cars?
How about them playing GT7 on PS5? Not exactly accurate for the time the movie takes place. But I get it. Who wants to see old graphics on the big screen?
The part where the gold lambo flipped like 10 times and totally got recked and the guy came out totally fine not even a concussion or scrap realized this was a bunch of dog shit
I only watched the movie because I attempted to do the same thing when GT5 mentioned the contest. Unfortunately I wasn’t quite fast enough… le sigh.
dammm wait until COD player be a soldier
