When I first heard this song I was 20. Now I am 67. The song is about someone remembering what it was like to be young.
Ditto
Ditto!
I'm only 34 and was like aww I remember my 20s as well🤣. Barely but I remember them and Segar was apart of them!
w/ autumn setting in (mid 40's)... he was a lot like cash or even frost.... wrote what on the surface seem relatively simple lyrics. yet symbolically laden w/ so much depth.
I was in high school, 10th grade when I first heard him and I was hooked
Best thing is the song meaning changes as you get older. Most of Seger's songs hit harder the older you get. Timeless music.
boy, tell me about it
Takes me back to listening to this whole album in my sisters bedroom. Loved every song on it.
Often complimented for his vocals, people seem to forget that he wrote and arranged his songs. What a talent!
I listen to the music behind the lyrics on this one and am amazed every time at the talent behind the Voice!
yep one of the best to put music to words and words to music.
He did it all! Singer-Songwriter, Director, Producer, and obviously Performer. Knew how to arrange it all and reach deep into your soul to connect like you're looking back at your earlier years of your own life. Bob Seger is the best at it!
genius
I'm a 74 year old man from Australia and watch your video reactions which most are the sound tracks of my youth keep them coming please I enjoy them so much and your reactions bring a smile to my face cheers
My favorite is the first reaction to the sixth sense movie . It was like watching it for the first time again .
My pops graduated from high school with Bob. Mr. Seger has the ability to paint such a vivid image with his lyrics, you'd swear he was singing one of your memories! Those teenage "night moves" - awesome memories!
Whenever i hear Down on Main Street I'm right there with Bob.
he ran track in 9th grade for my old high school. in Lincoln Park
Yeahhhh no he didn't 😆
@@THEC.O.VISIT. he did though we had a picture of him in our halls 🤡
@@THEC.O.VISIT. In his song "Back in 72" he even says "We got homesick for lincoln park, Imagine that".
It's crazy because as a teenager when this came out, even though Bob was describing all that sexual tension, and being devil may care, we all felt it was more of a
cautionary tale of "Autumn Closing In". It was strange to hear the song back then looking forward, and now at 60 with Autumn Arrived. The song is timeless.
"Against The Wind" we run the race, we have to finish our course.
"Time is an ocean, but it ends at the shore"
Well said!
True. I was 12 when this was popular and to me this song was more nostalgic than sexual, if that makes sense.
This song brings back so many memories it’s a wonderful thing about music. It looks different now than it did then.
Beautifully put. Thank you for that. And both those songs bookended with Like A Rock, with those '20 years' becoming 40, then 50...they all truly go so fast.
Bog Seger is flat out, Motown Rock n Roll. No other way to describe it. There is no other sound even close to his legendary career.
What is wrong with you? Seger recorded on the Capitol label.
@@maggynewtown3500 yeah, I wasn't speaking about record labels.
You do know that Motown refers to detorit, MI, right?
Born on May 6, 1945 in Detroit and raised in Ann Arbor, Seger's interest in music was inspired by his father, who started his son's musical trajectory by teaching him to play the ukulele.
Bob Segar, with regard to rock n roll, is the epitome of Motown music, not the label but the genre. Thanks for your reply.
Bob is from that nevk of the woods.Detroit is a melting pot of music.
GREATEST SONG OF ALL TIME and as a 56 year old preacher, I cant even share it with my teen daughters.
NO GIMMICKS OR FLASHY SHIT, JUST RAW TALENT, SONGWRITING AND AN OVERALL GREAT GUY = A TRIP TO THE R&R HALL OF FAME!
This guy has a library of hits!
One of THE most talented storytellers in the Industry.
Amen, like Bob Dylan The Hurricane .
For reference: Summertime is youthful years, "Autum's closing in" is later years as he ages, reflecting back.
Seger was part of the 60s Detroit sound, a vibrant, raw rock sound.
Like a Rock 🛻
Well 70's anyway. The 60's Detroit sound was Motown. That ain't Bob.
Bob is more like the Ann Arbor club scene of the 1970's.
Mick Jagger and Keith Richard’s loved Seger.
"hes starting to jog my memory... I remember" EXACTLY, Bob is a genius...
Yeah and "curiosity catches the cat", haha
I love how he changes the meaning of 'Night Moves', from a euphemism to a reflection of his carefree youth when he didn't have any responsibilities to now when he does. I absolutely adore this song.
Me too!!
Asia started glowing when she figured out what Bob was on about.
Fun times.
mmhmmm! they need to react to Come to Poppa to see what else Bob was on about!
Hello from Iceland 🇮🇸 I like Old Time Rock & Roll 👍🏼
Seger is pure Detroit Rock n Roll! Try 'Katmandu'
And 'Strut'
I love her laugh when she realizes what the song is about. 🤣
He's a master storyteller.
He gave Glen Frey (the Eagles) a helping hand to get started way back when too.
Have a great day!
Have you heard ' Glenn's Song'? Bob wrote it for him after he passed, its beautiful
Bob is a legend. love your reactions
Shame on the Moon, Roll Me Away, Fire Lake so many more.
All time classic song. And yes it is about the literal Night Moves that the young folk working and practicing in the backseat and trusty woods... But it is also about looking back on your life and remembering those times. So the lines about Autumn closing in are also about a man approaching or in middle age looking back on those times when you just didn't seem to have as much to lose. Lines like that are what make Bob such a masterful storyteller in addition to the class A instrumental musicianship and performance.
And soulful is a perfect word to describe his voice. Takes em to church at the end!
Well said! No,Bob's not country,Bob is,well,he's Bob! Little rock,little soul,little storyteller,lots of kick ass!🎙👊
I love how he bridges those two times with "the sound of thunder."
I have "with autumn closing in" tattooed on my forearm... My Dad's favorite line of any Seger song and a great reminder of looking back nostalgically on your youth as you grow older
One of his most overlooked songs is Come to Poppa. FUNKY!!!!
Great cover of a blues song.
Yes Sir, you are correct!! Love the guitar work on come to papa🎤🎸🎼
Seger is my all time favorite. Rock n roll never forgets is my favorite. When you describe classic rock, you can't without mentioning Bob Seger
I agree on both !!!
I'd almost forgot " Rock n Roll Never Forgets. Thanks for jogging my memory.😎
Bob Seeger nailed it with this song. He told us all about teenage love. It is undeniable what teenagers go through, not always to their benefit.
He is such a great storyteller. It doesn’t matter what year you (the listener) was born, his songs will always take you back to a certain ago and you’ll reminisce about those times😎
Great reaction...! Great song...! Great artist...!
"MAIN STREET" is another Great track...!
agree, another smooth soulful trip down Bob's memory lane. we probably all have our own version of main street.
Absolutely. Must do Main Street.
Yes, Gotta do Main Street!
Absolutely!! The soulful, wailing guitar sets the tone of an opportunity lost.
@@edordzie244 Well Said...!
I just love how it alludes to it without being too vulgar. It honestly just makes me think of hs summertime meeting my husband. Here we are 23 years later and certain songs or changing of the seasons still take me back to the first few summers. Great reaction Mr. Seger def has a unique way of painting a vivid pic and yanking you into it don't he? Lol
Bob has the art of telling multiple stories with one song. What might seem shallow at first is really deep. I remember the summer, but I’m loving the fall.
My Mom was a Seger fan, she passed away at 89 years and she listened to his music every night before bed right up to her death.
One of the best song writer's and performer. Was blessed to see him twice my younger years. This song takes me back...
I remember!
One of the great voices in rock, in the traditon of Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Sam Cooke. Paul Rodgers is another that comes to mind. You know them when you hear them.
He's practically in a category all his own. Please react to his "Against the Wind," and "Roll Me Away," i'd love to see/hear your reaction! Thx!
My two fav's! I agree!!
Have LITERALLY heard this all my life...Still LOVE it!! Country and R&B come from very similar places!!
This is just one of many hits by the great Bob Segar. One of the top artists in the world during the 70s and 80s. What a voice.
Bob Seger has so many great songs out there. One of my favorites for sure.
I'm right there with you guys.I love Bob's sound, his vocals, his productions ,his stories.
Enjoyable.
What a singer writer paints beautiful pictures with his stories. Love Bob
What a storyteller!! Just captivating, holds you there, you just can’t leave until his story is sung…
Bluesy Country Soul! That should be a legit category.
You can find those type of artists in the Americana genre
Started his career with The Bob Segar Experiment. Straight Blues/rock with a touch of Motown. Still lives in Detroit area. His version of Nutbush City Limits is amazing. Got do Turn the Page if you haven't.
Turn the page is a classic!
Wasn't his first group the Bob Seger System? Pep Perrine on drums?
Bob Seger Michigan!
Graduated Thurston high 78 our clas.song turn the page
Explains alot..Well said..Will always love his sound!!
The lady backup singers are awesome, deserve more credit, and have always caught my ear on this classic song. In some ways I feel they make the song the classic that it is!
Been listening to this song since I was in high school back in the seventies. It never gets old to my ears and soul.
You guys are Kool as hell. I am thankful for your interest in the music us old hippies grew up on. Bob is one of a kind. I was in HS when this came out and still love it.
I think of him as rock myself☺️
As someone who can feel the autumn of my life closing in, this song really hits. And it is funny how you remember those times from your youth figuring out sex, relationships, and auditing in general. Great song.
Many of us approaching "winter" still feel those same AMAZING things! That's why youth should never be wasted, or even taken for granted. It's youth that lays the foundation for who we become.
He is singing about all of our teenage years and experiences!!!
Most of us anyways. Some of us didn’t have those teenage experiences.
Saw him in 1977 at the Derby Eve Jam in Louisville KY. During the break in this song when there is a long pause, I jumped up and yelled “I LOVE YOU BOB SEGER!” It was very loud in that quiet hall and people cheered and when he got done with the song, he said “I love you too Louisville” and the crowd went crazy again! Best concert memory!!
Yes! Thank you for doing this. A masterpiece. Seger is the man! Next check out his big hit "Roll Me Away" for some true inspiration and great vibes. Enjoy.
Love me some Bob talk about memories. I have saw him about 10 times in concert in Charlotte NC man he never gets old. Turn the Page is my favorite right after this one.
The first time I heard this song was in the animated movie "American Pop" (1981 -- for adults, not children) and never ever forgot it. ("I remember, I remember.) It's about the rise (and fall) of a music idol. Have loved Bob Segar ever since. That piano gets to me every time I hear it and I start to play my air piano and chair dancing.
Bob Seger is one of the best song writers EVER. Such an amazing singer and one of my all time favorite songs. And as always, Asia, you look lovely.
Great storyteller whose music makes great use of the piano/organ sound.
I live in Michigan, where hes from, and let me tell you that hes a god in this state. Im sure you can hear why. Ive seen him a few times in concert, and of all the concerts Ive ever been to his are the most fun and happy of them all....
One of my favorites from my hometown. My niece went to school with his son so I have been to many concerts and Bob is a real cool dude.
My first vinyl was Bob Seger, Stranger in Town. I got it for my 12th birthday in 1978. I still have it and all his vinyl, he is my most favourite. He is a true story teller. Do yourself a favour and listen to Famous Final Scene from the album and then Jody Girl the Live Bullet version. Love from Canada
Did you catch the double meaning of "night moves"?
1- teenage experimentation (1st part of the song)
2 - passing of time (2nd half of the song)
I recommend ramblin man and against the wind
Bob Seger has always been my favorite rocknroll singer ! He has some rocking songs as well. One of my favorite is his cover of Ike n Tina Turners " Nutbush City Limit "
Went to one of his concerts back in the late 70's in Kansas City. Bob will drag you right into his song as he tells his story. Great artist, all his songs are great.
He's a mix of soul blues and rock and roll
But he's definitely a rock and roll legend one of the best songwriters of all time
But I also remember Garth Brooks saying how Bob and this song especially influenced him, too.
"With autumn closing in." He's in the autumn of his life, looking back on his youth.
Songwriting genius!!
I’ve been watching you guys for a while now and BJ gets it..gets our music..I could have partied with BJ back in the day 👍
Bob Sewer is a true master of his craft...a great musician who is an incredible storyteller.
That was a great concert, brought back a lot of my teen memories, sitting in the woods sippin and singing with him. It was great times!!! Always brings back great summer times!!
Not sure if you guys have done "Fire Lake" or "We've got tonight" but, they are both great songs also.
Another great reaction!
Asia we’ve loved this guy all our lives… so happy all you reactors are reacting to all our sweet, beautiful, cruisey music…. The list is never ending….. thank you for caring…. Now fill your Playlist….music is forever & if you ever get the chance go see bands Live in concert…. That’s the ultimate buzz
Probably his most soulful singing on this awesome tune. Lyrics, perfect. We all worked on our night moves in the sweet summertime. Great reaction you two.
More Seger: Feel Like a Number; Hollywood Nights; Rock and Rock Never Forgets; Katmandu; Still the Same; Ramblin' Gamblin Man; Betty Lou's Gettin' Out Tonight; Shakedown
This is Bob’s signature tune. This one made Bob a Superstar rocker and the whole country knew who he was after this huge legendary hit!
Man I love him. My mama had this on 8 track. Saw him in concert when I was 8. My first concert was ray Charles my grand daddy took me cuz he played bass fiddle for them that night. And then had a jam session. It was magical.
Never be another BOB SEGER! He’s a all time Rockin Roller! Sang it BOB!🤠
He is a true storyteller
Most beautiful way of putting the context of this song into words. Don't think anyone did it better.
I'm always amazed at the way young people want to classify every song/singer into a specific "genre". Good songwriting comes from the heart, doesn't it? Kinda puts the technical stuff aside when inspiration enters the picture.
The songs that you FEEL, and not just hear, are the everlasting gifts these artists gave the world.
He is my all time Favorite!!! First heard him in the 70's his song we got tonight..beautiful song, seen him 5 times in concert..🥰 love love him..so glad you all love him too..
Hes my favorite too...
It would have be hard in the mid to late 80s to find a southern boy that didn't know Bob Seger, CCR, Alabama and George Straight. The rock songs and country songs crossed over each other.🎶
Im glad people your ages are listening to some of our songs from our youth... Oh Asia, you are beautiful! Keep up the reaction videos, I truly love them.
I love watching Asia's expressions, just priceless to me. She is gorgeous as well.
Seger rocks, has soul and can cross the country line a little. All his songs are so different. More please!
You wanna hear Seger at his best, listen to anything off of "Live Bullet", rock and roll energy at its absolute best.
Yes!
No joke there. Very few live albums have that intensity and perfect microphone positioning and sound quality
I was in the 10th grade when they released this song. Like everybody I bought the album. 20 years later it comes on the car radio. I’m naturally blasting it. But I finally understood the ending. Listening to the Thunder. Brought him back to a very special time in his life. As always Ty.
Love you guys ❤️
One of our great poets of the past, all his songs bring great memories and great thinking and the band is awesome!!!
I sure worked on my night moves my 18 th summer and Everytime I hear this song I am right back there.
My first love 💕
The nostalgia he expresses in the lyrics at the end of this song really tugs at my heart. The Autumn is closing in and he's wondering how far off the thunder was. Sounds sad.
WHAT A VOICE! 🎤💫👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Portland Oregon USA 🇺🇸
2 beautiful people giving respect and opinions to Seger. Love y'all from northern Indiana 💕🎸 had to come in and edit my comment. Can't thank y'all enough for hearing the heart, soul, and voice of this guy. He's like Johnny Cash & Al Green. His voice resonates with so many different personalities and backgrounds of life.
This is one always takes me back to high school. Mainstreet and Feels Like a Number never get old. You can always see the story he’s singing in his songs.
"And points all her own sittin' way up high...way up firm and high" LOL...possibly the most overlooked/underappreciated lyric in all of music!
She was obviously very excited to see him. It's a fantastic subtle line.
Thank you , thank you . you know Ive been waiting for this . Quite the rabbit hole , dive deep . Love you guys
Bob Seager is a poet with a song.
Amazing human being. He completely dominated the music industry for over a decade.
Loved this reaction. You guys nailed it - Dancing (horizontal dancing). You're a lucky man BJ and Asia - WOW! I love how your eyes light up when you really like something, and that smile - what can I say about it except WOW!
This is one of the best reactions I've seen from BJ - love to see what really resonates with him. This song has incredible relevance and meaning for me, outside of the year it was set. Good memories.
This is a story of how it was from mid fifties to late seventies . This is how we had to roll , cause taking your girl up to your room was as taboo as the thoughts you had in your head ! Parking under the full moon , going to the drive-in and have to leave before the second movie got half way through , to get your girl home , before her dad came looking for you . Great times and so innocent learning without any clues . Good job guys !
Surely, all of us can relate to this song. Ah, to be young and inquisitive again. Those were the days! Thanks for the song (and memories)!
He can not only Story tell like no other, he at the same time can write something that takes us ALL back (personally), to our own pasts. I think that is what makes him so Universally Loved.
He is the voice that lets us relieve OUR pasts on such a deep and emotional level once again.
TY Bob ... ty for the memories.
For me this was a song of life. As a youngster finding out about love and loving. Being carefree and living life as fully as possible. When he sings about Autumn closing in it’s about getting older into our golden years and remembering what once was. When you’re old all we have are the sweet memories. And we smile to ourselves that our loving can not be forgotten because it’s deep in our hearts. Even now, near the end, it’s a wonder how the night moves.
I usually work on my morning moves. 😂
Awesome song. One of my favorites.
This is a true Gem from Bob Seger.
He was such an outstanding songwriter and performer.
Old time Rock’n’Roll never dies
One of..my favorite Bob Seger songs. Thank you guys.
You both totally understood it's depth.
