    When you enter the castle, you just know that something big is about to happen. What an epic atmosphere they created there with the "buzzing" in the background. And then the battle itself, where you get help from about 6(?) allies. His design, his lore.... everything about Radahn is extraordinary. I can't wait to fight him in my new game+ and try to beat him in a 1vs1 as he deserves.

    • @ZmanImaGamer

      his buildup for me was extraordinary because when i approached his castle and used the teleporter on the other side of the bridge, i encountered not a single enemy on the way to the festival.
      It just told me once i learned the intention of the festival "if they were worried about me killing him they would have already tried to stop me. These loyal men are INVITING ME and many others to KILL him".
      The fact he is the only boss in the game where you are told by the NPCS that he is a true warrior, and he wants this perfectly builds up how powerful this man was, and still is.

    I love so much the slow reveal of Radahn's true character. In the trailers he looks large, imposing and evil, but behind that you see the tragedy. He loved his horse (Leonard) so much, and was slowly losing his mind to the rot...he wanted to die a true warrior. :(

    • @zenseizen374
      @zenseizen374 2 года назад +14

      Not to mention that "undefeated opponent", being Malenia, had to nuke the entire continent with her scarlet rot due to the stalemate they were at, but in my honest opinion it looked like the battle was leaning towards Radahn's favor in its later stages. Radahn proceeds to facetank the whole thing upfront and survived while she was heavily wounded and had to be dragged back by her cleanrot knights speaks volumes about Radahn's overall power and justifies his title as "the mightiest demigod of them all" (Not so sure if Aeonia or Caelid were separate places or if the place itself was a continent but you get the point.)

    • @BattlefireTV
      @BattlefireTV 2 года назад +8

      @@zenseizen374 Actually no. The lore says that it was a pure stalemate. Her using the scarlet rot was to break that stalemate. You also have to put into perspective that Malenia herself was not in her prime. During the fight she was holding back the rot. And the fact that she wasn't ever at her fullest the moment she lost her limbs to the rot.
      Also, in the intro you can clear see that he fought morgott and lost. Prior to him fighting Malenia. Which suggest he waged war against Lyndell but failed.

    • @zenseizen374
      @zenseizen374 2 года назад +3

      @@BattlefireTV Actually, it was Godrick who attacked Leyndell (unofficial source but the only one I got, you're free to correct me here if there's official confirmation. I haven't finished the game yet and still haven't started reading on item descriptions since I defeated Radahn. I am currently in the snowy mountaintops, I just arrived there) and Morgott defeated Godrick, which is how an Omen like him became the lord of Leyndell. Also, note that Radahn's redmane soldiers were considered the "strongest" of the armies, and Malenia's cleanrot knights being the "fiercest". All of these lore points of Radahn and his army, along with how surprisingly true his legendary feats are, it wouldn't make sense how he would be defeated by Morgott, but I don't see a reason for Radahn even having a reason to want to attack Leyndell. It never stated who was the attacker, aside from the unofficial source of Godrick attacking Leyndell and losing to Morgott, but seeing how the battle of Aeonia took place in Caelid (Radahn's territory), we can at least strongly speculate that Malenia attacked Radahn. Radahn was also respected and loved as a hero by most, and a lot of item descriptions that talk about him view him as an honourable warrior with a heart of gold (for his horse and loved ones at least), so personally I don't why he would even attack Leyndell. (Everyone literally agrees that he was the strongest of all the demigods, but the most feared was Miquella for he was the smartest.)
      Moreover, regarding the stalemate between Malenia and Radahn, yes it is vividly and clearly said that it was a stalemate, my saying that it was leaning towards Radahn's favour in the latter stages of the fight was said vaguely so I will say it in a more detailed manner. Yes, Malenia and Radahn were at a stalemate, and Malenia was undefeated up to that point. It is my OPINION and theory that Radahn was probably at a slight advantage towards the end before the scarlet rot nuke. As seen in the cinematic trailer, which is the closest we'll get to seeing how Radahn vs Malenia turned out, Malenia charged towards Radahn and had her prosthetic arm smashed. She then catches her blade and leaps high to stab Radahn with it, but turns out she got stabbed by it as well as seen by the blood flowing down the blade. I believe that this is when the stalemate actually ended and Malenia decided to use the scarlet rot nuke as a last-ditch effort to take Radahn down, which succeeded in a way.

    • @BattlefireTV
      @BattlefireTV 2 года назад +5

      @@zenseizen374 Actually you are wrong. The forces that attacked Lyndell was Radahns army. There is a reason why in the lore it said Radahns bannerman were pushed out of Lyndell. You can even see the intro where Radahn and Morgott fought. Which enforces that because throughout the entire war Morgott kept himself in the Lyndell Capital. And as I said before when you go through the legacy dungeon you see remains of the banners.
      And for Malenia and Radahna fight. It is more leaning that it was a stalemate before the rot. Malenia throughout her fight held back the rot which caused her to not fight her fullest. Not to mention the moment she lost her limbs she no longer was able to peak even with her training based off of the lore.
      And she wasn't stabbed by Radahn. She stabbed herself to inflict the rot against him with her own blood. That is why in the cinematic she was pressing herself into the blade further.
      Yeah what she did to the lands was bad. But Radahn was no saint. He was a warmonger who was arguably the worst in the war considering he wanted to wage war everywhere. Much of the Shattering War destruction was his doing. Him being nice to his horse is not enough to make up for that.

      @@BattlefireTV Yeah I dived into some more research, well as much as I could without spoiling myself in future events of the game, and yes you were apparently right. I rewatched cutscenes and stuff and started reading more and more item descriptions and those big stone swords that have short stories of battles and past events. It also appears the unofficial source I got it from had a typo, as well as errors in its fact-checking, and I ran a correction through it so it's all good now.
      That's an interesting way to put it for the Malenia against Radahn cutscene. Is there some official info I could check on that one regarding her stabbing herself with the rot? I'm curious how that works, especially since I am treading cautiously and avoiding certain lore told by other YT channels in my recommended section and other players that could be potential spoilers for me.

    So, from what I can tell as to “why” he held back the stars, I believe it has to do with Ranni. Ranni had a plan to go against the fingers and the greater will, but she was tied to the stars movement. Now I don’t know the specifics, but it seems that without the stars moving, the entrance to Nokron was hidden, and with it, the knife Ranni needed to slay the fingers. So Radahn was holding the stars in place to keep Ranni from enacting her plan, protecting the fingers and the greater will.

Had Malenia not nuked Caelid/Aeonia (still not sure about the area's actual name but I'll stick with Caelid) with her scarlet rot with Radahn at its center, the Red Lion General could have become the third Elden Lord just from his feats and strength alone. Easily my favorite character in Elden Ring.

  • @secretfounder1134

    Things you may not know about Radahn:
    He learnt gravity magic not only to ride his childhood horse Leonard but also to hold the stars (like Astel) back, stop them from harming the lands between and its people.
    It was said that he loved his homeland and people, he was also an honorable warrior when letting Malenia to put her arm back before fighting. And, you may have noticed that, everytime Radahn launches an aoe attack, he will push his horse to the sand in order to protect it. Even when he has become a monster, he still didn't mistake his horse for food, and still holding back the stars to protect the land.
    He was also the one to tell his warriors to hold that festival to kill him because he didn't want to harm any others.
    He ran to the desert because he knew that the number of people killed by him will be minimized.
    All his soldiers were still loyal to him even when he has become a monster just says how good he was.

  • @ToxicFaithPHD
    @ToxicFaithPHD 2 года назад +62

    I really want to know why he did it. Why hold back the stars? Especially since his family, particularly his mother and sister are tied to the stars. He seems like a good guy so why do it? Did he know about the different crazy space monsters that come crashing down and he was just stopping them? Or was it the moon presence that freaked him out?
    Anyways, great work as always!! Really glad i found this channel.

      Radahn is loyal to the Golden Order aka the Greater Will. Ranni sought to usurp the Greater Will and end its reign being affiliated with the Outer God of the moon. The Golden Order would crumble and the Age of the Stars aka the original world order before the coming of the Greater Will and the Erdtree to Earth would take its place. As long as Radahn keeps the stars in check Nokron is out of reach for Ranni and she won't be able to fuffil her destiny. Secondly the nature of glinstone magic. Glintstone is the amber of the cosmos, golden amber contains the remnants of ancient life and houses its vitality, while Glintstone contains residual life. And thus, the vitality of the stars. It should not be forgotten that glintstone sorcery is the study of the stars and the life therin. So Radahn is nerfing the power of the Carian royal family magic.Not only that the stars alter the fate of the carian royal family.
      Thirdly let's not forget what stars actually are. Stars in Elden Ring are not just big balls of plasma. But lovecraftian abominations like Astel,Naturalborn of the Void. His mere fall to Earth destroyed an entire city and robbed them of their sky. Imagine hundreds or thousands falling at once.

    Even as the Scarlet Rot destroyed his body and parts of his mind, his will power is still strong enough to know who he is and STILL holds the stars in place and even not crush his horse, the reason why he learned gravity magic in the first place

    Honestly, this video and the lore confirms to me that Malenia's no hero - unbalanced and narcissistic at best, and a heartless war criminal (who may essentially be morally equivalent to Dung Eater, the one who wishes to eternally violate the World - perhaps since she suffers from the Rot, she felt little to no qualms about unleashing it on others, maybe even for the same reasons as Dung Eater - so the world would share her pain) at worst. Unlike Rhadan, her only claim to fame was that she’s never been beaten, despite having to fight with her entire army (the spears in Rhadan's back are from all her Cleanrot Knights) AND essentially drop a bio-nuke, unleashing the horrific mutation & suffering of the Rot on every lifeform in Cailid, as well as painfully killing hundreds of thousands of innocents AND forever condemning Cailid to be a tainted hellhole, JUST to “potentially” beat STARCHAD Rhadan and satisfy her ego (Spoiler Alert: she still couldn’t do it, got knocked out and had to get carried off by one of her knights named Finlay, Rhadan was the last one standing). Even after her “victory”, she couldn’t live with what she’d done, so she got her memories of the incident wiped and ran off to her bunker in the Haligtree (which she's corrupted too by her very presence) - until the Tarnished finds her, of course. Couldn’t even finish what she started and put her half-brother, a man everyone respected by all accounts, out of his misery. Even to this day, Rhadan's warriors are staving off the Rot from infecting other areas beyond Calid - LITERALLY attempting to clean up her mess. Some “undefeated“.

    Radahn's tenderness is why Melania survived. She used her most powerful ability in hopes of a victory, but instead only gained an opportunity to flee like a coward for the sake of maintaining her title of undefeated. All the while, Radahn held the power of the stars at his command, and yet never used them because of the catastrophic outcome even he knew would befall his beloved region. Despite the pure efforts of the mightiest demigod Radahn, however. Malenia in her pitiful attempt to win against a stronger foe only succeeded in destroying the region, and corrupting the body of the truely undefeated.

    -Was Already a massivly powerful sowrdsman but learned gravity magic for his horse
    -Used that same gravity magic to hold the stars themselves
    -Went one on one with malenia and won
    -That same malenia had to use all of her scarlet rot to flee and never accepted she was beaten (complete virgin move)
    -Even while inflicted with scarlet rot and insane, still held the stars in place AND kept himself from crushing his horse
    -was so chad even His warriors stayed loyal to him even once infected
    -Said warriors made a whole festival dedicated to killing him in the way he wouldve wanted
    -Defended the rest of the continent from malenia's Super Aids
    -Still needed the future tarnished lord and 6 others to take him down
    -Was holding back the sky all that time
    -When he dies he gives you the best colossal weapons in the game
    Reject malenia, Return to Radhann

    I have a theory about why Radahn held back the stars:
    Continuing with Ranni's questline you will eventually fight Astel, Naturalborn of the void. From the description of its remembrance it says " a malformed star born in the lightness void far away. Once destroyed an eternal city and took away their sky. A falling star of ill omen."
    Astel itself uses many gravitational attacks in its bossfight
    Its said that Radahn learned gravitational magic from an Alabastrian lord - from the Alabaster lord sword description it says they are a race of ancients with skin of stone who were said to have risen to life when a meteor struck long ago.
    There are of course other examples of stoned skinned humanoids in Nokron and the other eternal cities as well as many other deformities of life that have occurred due to the coming of Astel.
    Also, in the Elden Stars incantation it says "long ago, the greater will sent a golden star bearing a beast into the lands between, which would later become the elden ring"
    Thats obviously not referring to astel but may also serve as to reason why Radahn wanted to hold back the stars.
    So my theory is that In his studies, Radahn no doubt learned about what happened, and perhaps challenged the stars and held them captive as a means to prevent the same fate from happening to the lands between again.

      Yea I don't know why so many people think he's working against Ranni when there's so much that points to him holding the stars back because he learned that space is full of fucking terrifying monsters.

    In the trailer I thought Radahn is the evil and Malenia is the hero....but no, Malenia is a bitch and Radahn is the true hero. A reverse Legend of Zelda.
    Now, I hope we will join him in DLC. maybe have a chat with him, help him conquer the stars since he "discovered" something. I guess he will have the same personality as Alexander the great jar.

    These videos are awesome! I've beaten the game from scratch twice and done many new game plus playthroughs but still missed so much of storyline! These videos make the game much more impactful playing through again and actually understanding what's going on haha.

    This is my favorite lore video I've seen on this channel, and Radahn is one of my favorite Fromsoft NPCs. He's just so cool and unique compared to most of the roster and there's so much to like about him. He stalemated Melania, he basically used himself as a shield to protect Caelid from the scarlet rot, he FOUGHT SPACE and won, but my favorite thing about him is that he learned gravity magic just so he could keep riding his favorite horse. And the boss fight against him is so cool, especially from a lore standpoint. Just a festival of warriors trying to give him the death he deserves, so you go and summon a bunch of NPCs and charge him like you're in a Lord of the Rings movie. 10/10.
    I actually never made the connection that those walls of rock and fire in Caelid were attempts to contain the scarlet rot, but that makes perfect sense. I just never gave it much thought, mostly because I was too busy trying not to get eaten by giant dogs/crows lol. Loving these videos!

    This is very well put together. Once again, good work!
    Radahn has been quite a weird one in my mind. On one hand he's depicted as caring yet mighty general, and yet at the same time the mystery behind his actions always gave me a second thought about him.
    Also, I find it weird that he never actually hurt his horse, but was mentioned to attack foes and allies indiscriminately. I guess I should just chalk it up to 'he loves his old horse too much' and 'rot only cause him to target human as prey'...
    I read in the comment section that there is a mistranslation in Ranni's ending, where she's supposed to ask us to accompany her to fight those of the likes of greater will and two fingers hiding in the stars (or something along that line). If it's true, then Radahn's action was completely justified. Especially since he seemed deadset about doing it right after he finishes mastering gravity magic (I missed this part of the lore). Ranni getting involved was probably nothing but coincidence, or a part of bigger plot altogether.
    But alas, it will remain a mystery, for now, I suppose.
    So, what's next on the menu?

    • @kitetales
      @kitetales  2 года назад +1

      Thank you so much! That is extremely interesting about the translation discrepancies, I am going to have to go watch that. It’ll be a shame if it’s so heavily changed in the English text. The language about the Two Fingers hiding in the stars is extremely creepy!!
      Oh and as for what’s next, I’m thinking it’s going to be a theory video about sorcery. ✨
