It’s almost scary how good that fake looks, unless you’ve got a keen eye people could easily be fooled by that
would it make any difference tho?
@@DK-xb7re wdum?
@@JBKShadow09 if it actually the same like the orginal one?
@@DK-xb7re hmm I know they look and maybe even feel pretty similar but the fake one should be lower quality and less durable etc.
@@DK-xb7re exterior doesn't rly matter, the I terior is were the problem lies.
Cheaper parts make the controller have worse quality, and less durable
If there's one thing I've learned in my life, it's that absolutely no controller is as good as a proper Sony Playstation controller
Nothing as good as the OG!!
They can't put da COMPANY LOGO or NAMES on box or product if its fake bro. Now REFURBISHED yessir that seems true but not fake as in a knock off company rebranding their product 2 look and or imitate SONY'S PRODUCTS. Sry not tryin 2 be a D-head bout it just speaking from experience from work environment(lol cant say much but that work environment)but nice catch on some smaller details that I've seen pros would've let em slip by.🤙👍
Yes,my cousin got his ps4 before me and he still has his original controller working fine,I broke the original and I have to replace the new controller I bought already
💯
Yeah, but 70 bucks for just a controller... Just think about how much food you can buy with that
The real problem with telling a fake from real controller is there are “too” many versions of the original and therein, a fake can pass as another variant of the original, plus there are good quality fakes out there
If only they could nail the durability of the sticks, i just might actually accept them.
Despite being mostly cheaply built all the way from the buttons themselves to the battery, those feel decent enough. But the sticks breaking after 3 weeks of use from a supposed "new fake" is absurd.
I got a PS4 controller a few weeks ago and was confused why its Bluetooth name on the PC was just "Wireless Controller" when I connected it a few days ago. It looks and feels fine, not a single thing actually is off in terms of quality. Only the Bluetooth name gave it away.
@@Akuba my DS4 is the original one that came with the console itself. Still, when i plug It on Pc, the name that apears is wireless controller. Other programas, such as steam, or rewasd recognize as a DS4.
If you been playing for years you will notice by the weight and how the button feels
@@Akuba legitimate PS4 and ps5 controller names are "wireless controller" if connected by Bluetooth
Just stumbled across this vid. While watching I also noticed that the fake unit says “Sony ComputerEntertainment Inc.” while the real unit says “Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc.” My wife bought this for Christmas ‘21 and I’ve been having so many problems with this fake unit recently. Now I know why.
Good Eye‼️👁✅️
Nice find Mr. Flip
hmmmm - problem about this SCE VS SIE
SCE was V1 models pre V1.5 ( if you will )
- as BATMAN ARKHAM KNIGHT's bundle I've got from DAY-1 purchase says exactly SCE
this was 2015 !!
- then, V1.5 where UNCHARTED 4 console bundle announced just the following season at 2016, as SCE brand slightly updated to SIE / Sony Interactive Entertainment then
-
SO there's the facts about SCE / SIE change back in '15 - '16
ANOTHER bit was the packaging on the FAKE was shown perfectly covers the DS4 in curvy ends, then the ORIGINAL just flat ??
-
curvy covers slated for ALL REGION 1s which be US / CA (Canada) - then the flat covers were non REGION 1s - HongKong / Asias, NOT Japan strangely
-
1 / 2
IF only this comparison made showcasing SIDE to SIDE - then highlight the differences from start, we'd see better which is which
but besides the points
-
DEAD giveaway from the FAKE was the inclusion of USB cable and that was it, really
all else's unless broken down, there's NO telling which was which
-
2 / 2
That's it man, that does it, time to file a divorce
Most people call them fake, and sellers call thm "After market" or "Genuine REAL PS4 controllers" but they are all veru different internally. the cheap Chinese batteries are larger than the normal PS4 ones, but some how last a shorter amount of time (something that blows my mind). The analog sticks are more brittle and prone to break much easier. and a LOT of them missing the sticker on the back as they only have to sell it based on photos of the front (or in a box where you can't see the back.)
If its not second hand, but it's at a second hand price (or came from Alibaba) its likely fake.
About the Batteries, probably used batteries?
@@LennyQUMFIF depending on wat they made the battery with, the efficiency might be less, we like to do lithium batteries, idk wat Chinese use
This is especially true with fake Dualshock 3s. The joy durability though...
How the fuck do you go from making an almost one-to-one aftermarket chinese copy that actually feels good to use and you can scam someone with, to joys that don't last a single fucking month??
And the lack of Sixaxis is just the cherry on top...
the bstterys on those knockoffs are usually 600Mah, a real one is 1000, the mb of the fake is very diff 2, u cant even use sony parts on them
@@joaohenriques794 I learnt that the hard way and sent my (previously unkown, though I had a lot of suspicion) fakes ones to repair.
First the white one I got with my system when I bought it second hand, that one's on me, but the second I bought in an apparently "refurbished" condition (formal way of saying it's a fake ig) and later after repair I was told both were fake and original parts didn't fit.
The repair guy brute forced the parts into it to...well, lesser success as the drift was almost worse than with the chinese crap that was broken in them already.
So I asked the guy to just put the chinese sticks back. I lost about 20 bucks on this...plus the controllers themselves.
There aren't even any official DS3s on sale in this country, as I was told by the pawn-shop owner he visits the UK frequently to scour PS3 related things.
Oh yeah, I've definitely had to deal with this issue a few years back with a few controllers and learned my lesson. Amazon has duplicates. I complained a few times over the years, but nothing has changed. You pretty much noticed everything I did, also the sticker on the bottom it's not set correctly on the fake while on the official Dualshock 4, it's perfectly placed.
There use to be more 3rd party resellers on amazon selling controllers as new, but I believe now they are not allowed to sell controllers as "new"
The computer entertainment part is what confirmed it for me.
Amazon does not care, it’s up to the buyer now to look up if the seller is a discount knockoff store in asia.
some people are truly just that smart am i right?
These fake ones were on sale like crazy on OfferUp a few years ago they were $40
The light blue swirls on top of box used to be a dead giveaway, I see they've fixed that. Still using molded plastic window on the fake ones though.
Also, the official ones don't come with a microUSB cord.
Ah cool I didn't notice that detail, awsome I'll add that to my list. I only buy from electronics stores now so I have a come back if I happen to get a fake but my assumption is that generally they are get their products direct from the actual manufacturers as opposed to individuals on ebay, Amazon, TradeMe or wherever getting them from who knows where.
Is the ps3 plastic window fake?
Real ones can come with plastic molded windows too though
@@oppofieldpower9555 ok because I have a red ps3 controller and it’s in a plastic window
You just saved me $40. I was *this close* to buying a controller on eBay that had the same type of packaging as the fake one.
Glad to Help, thanks for watching!
Ya, don't purchase a controller with the form fitting plastic/clamshell packaging.
I bought 10 of them from a seller. Got them. Told them I wanted to send them back because they were fake. Fake ones always have the charging cord despite box saying it wont. He just refunded my money and never wanted them back.

Yea, saved me too. Almost bought from eBay. New York seller. White black red and this blue for sale $40 each. You can see the stretched SHARE in the photos..
So I now know why one of my controllers doesn't feel right. It didn't have all of the things that you said but it's definitely a really good fake. Also sucks because I bought it on Amazon, albeit from a vendor type shop. Thank you Sir, you've done us all a great service.
Yep, gotta watch out for the 3rd party resellers on Amazon
Well what matters if it gets the job done properly
@@herobrinegreek9493 you're kind of right but also wrong. Sure, it works but it's like playing on a controller that was dropped and has stick drift. It would be sitting on the table and the reticle would just randomly jump a little in a random direction. This happened with both sticks and one of tge buttons would stick. Visually the controller was almost perfect. During play it was nothing less than annoying.
@@jcstahl1986 My household is having struggles with money just like so many others, so we do have one. A fake controller is at least 20€ cheaper which may not seem that big of a difference but trust me there are decent one's at 30€

I've recently ordered 2 DS4 controllers from Amazon. According to your video, luckily I got 2 originals. So much fake crap is saled on the marketplaces of the big e-commerce companies nowadays. It's a pain in the ass.
Especially the 3rd party Amazon FBA sellers, although I think they have cracked down on a lot of them
Which one was it
You likely got scammed but just didn't realize it
easiest way to tell is the "SONY" text in front of the box. og one is always subtle & wider, while the fake one is thicker.
Nobody commenting about how seamless the voice recording was, felt like hearing you directly not from a headphone
Appreciate it, actually used my Blue Yeti Microphone for this one
I have a fake Sunset Orange controller that gives NO indication that it's fake, it is literally a perfect replica. I only know it's fake because the box wasn't right and the charging light blinks fast. I use it and keep my real Sunset boxed, it works okay but feels funny. The Chinese have gotten very good at copying.
Whatever helps you sleep at night
@@KQ_Offsuit bruh,I literally recently got burned with that comment while talking to someone on ps4 recently
Conspiracy:" China spreading communism"
Is it really a surprise? So much stuff in the US is made in china (even PlayStation parts are made there!). Heck I once had a T-shirt that had in bold letters; Made in USA....then underneath it in small print letters; Made in China. Looking over the few legit Dualshock 3 back stickers that aren't faded on my controllers, they say Made in China!
@@DarthDragon007 I mean we compete with everyone and usually win in the USA so I could see why they would copy
Did anyone notice the HUGE IMPERFECTION on the casing next to the Share button?? Holy cow!!
i noticed it
I noticed it but it was not mentioned in the video???? Looks like it is around 5 year old and got damaged but fresh out a box!
Absolutely original one have a great finish while the fake one isn’t...
It's because the creator is lying. He turned the PS4 on with "FAKE" controller. That means he's been playing with it & that's how it got cracked. He put it back inside the box & pretended like it was a brand new controller. How can a brand new controller turn your PS4 on fresh out the box?
Great video! There is one more clue that I noticed on my fake controller and you have it as well on yours: The USB symbol is debossed on the ORIGINAL and embossed on the FAKE one.
There are so many different versions, plus the fact that Sony has production in Japan and China. Both countries set them up a little different, and it's been that way since ps2 maybe earlier. If you actually open them up you'll see that everytime they make a new model they change how it's built, and that could also be part of the weight difference. The 1st model only lights up on the light bar, but later models had both the light bar as well as a small bar of light over the touch pad itself. Still possibility for a fake controller I guess, but usually the offbrands will use a whole different battery.
Good insight, I'm not to the point where I'm opening the controllers & doing the refurb thing
@@thejamokeflips I'm just starting out myself so I'm no expert. I could still be wrong, but I figured the best way to learn is to always question. Never accept something as straight fact without doing some looking into it yourself. Sometimes you, could be right, sometimes you could be wrong, and sometimes you're somewhere in the middle.
The one with the light through the bar is the slim controller, the other is the og model
And I have noticed that the buttons to an original controller are more shiney than the fake, for instance observe the share buttons
3:47. This milling around the touch pad is a pretty good giveaway too. Like somebody bumped the machine while it was working lol
So easy to know which is which simply by the cover
There is a way you can tell without even getting em out of the box. The fake ones got the plastic wrapped around the analog sticks were the real one does not.
Sorry there those with the plastic not wrapped around them joysticks, evidenced when I bought one sir
Looking at the middle Logo is probably the best bet I'm guessing
And the charging cord. Every fake one I had the dummy's put a charging cord in
The fake one will have tons of issues like shorter battery life, mine had an issue where when you press buttons while earphones are plugged the sound will be interrupted due to bad power distribution or something. And the speakers were too loud and had awful quality. The touchpad isn't scratch proof.
Yep, the details will start showing up after time
thx man the video helped me almost bought a fake one, i have to say they are looking almost identical to the official ones
Ya, if you don't know what to look for you can certainly get okie doked

I've seen some of those that say "dobleshock" on the box, looks pretty legit to me.
There is also microprinting on the back of the box, at the bottom. You may be able to read it with a macro lens, it's really tiny text like banknote security.
The small details reveal all

Thank you now I know which one is real and I spotted a game store with like fifty fake ones couple weeks ago
The color, the sticker (not being flat) and the Company name are some other ways you can tell also. On an authentic controller it should say 'Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc' not 'Sony ComputerEntertainment Inc' notice no gap between 'Computer' and 'Entertainment' also. I have been caught out twice, before I realised that there are even fakes out there. Reason being they look pretty damn good at first glance, but then you get minor issues here and there or they don't feel quite the same as the one that came with the console and upon closer inspection you realise something's not quite right. I don't understand why they don't put in a little more effort to make them perform better and just sell them as what they are, third party controllers? Then maybe they'd make some honest money minus any legal risks. It seems obvious to me that who ever is producing them has the ability. Anyway thanks for the video, safe shopping everyone and shame on the seller's who know you've got fakes but play ignorant. Advertise them as such and price them accordingly your customer's will respect you more and may even come back.
This is gonna be very useful, thx
Opened a return case on eBay after watching this video. Thanks!
Thanks for watching, Glad to help, you will certainly get your $$$ back if within the return timeframe
in my experience, a fake one feels rough and feel inferior, and the light on the front feels bright and cheap, they normally don't connect to ps5 with a cable, and the battery runs dry quicker and charges quicker too.

Oh thats why i just replaced my controller and bought one of ebay wich was half the cost ofc. Thanks for this video, I was about to pull the trigger on some seemingly legit PS4 controllers on eBay brand new for only $35; but Sony Direct is actually running a sale on all PS accessories this month; a real copy direct from Sony only costs $50 right now, so I think I'll just pay a little extra and be 100% guaranteed to get the real thing. The eBay ones you can tell they're fake clones just by the pictures of the packaging with the plastic cover shrunk to conform to the controller, exactly the same as shown in the video here.
Ya authentic is best
Best comparing video, thx :)
Thanks Yana!
The biggest giveaway for me is the weight. When you pick up a fake one, it feels lighter right away. When I weighed it, it was ~25 grams lighter than a real one. The analog sticks on the fake aren't as nice. The rubber coating looks thinner and is not as grippy.
Ya, when you are use to holding a real controller in your hand and you pick the fake up you can feel the difference
I remember that a few years ago a bought one original, it took sometime to finally arrive and surprise! It was a "double shock for Pz4" oh boy, that seller made me laugh for a few days.

Just after buying my controller RUclips decides to recommend me this, and it even is the same color as mine.

i think the most noticeable point is d-pad arrow icons. one in the fake ones are so distinct but at the real one its hard to see.

It's 2023 why do people still buy PS4 controllers?

What gave the fake one away for me is that the SONY logo on the fake box had a bold setting on the font.
The fakers can never get their fonts right, to bold, stretched, etc.. That seems like the easy part to me

@@ChrisJWattsTV Yup. If it's still manufactured i'll buy it brand new at a store especially cause the way controllers drift these days as well. As matter of fact i might go buy me another spare dualshock 4 at walmart before they all of a sudden stop stocking them 😅
the one i recently got off Amazon seems legit based on this video... it meets all the visual cues at least... it feels very light and "cheap" in my hands, but to be fair i haven't bought a new one in maybe 5 years... it's possible that the legit ones are simply made more efficiently than the older models...
i checked other sites before buying and nobody had any better options... it used to be simple as Sony was the only legit seller on Amazon for buying them new but now they have moved on to selling PS5 controllers...

You can tell from the weight. I’ve held my og controller for years, and my buddy gave me one, no issues. I bought another one on offer up and man that thing was super light, felt like it was gonna break. Luckily I got my money back.

Ya, the fake is made with cheaper parts, so it may have something to do with that
I have bought a extra controller from China, and I can tell it's definitely a trash one, first the feeling of the material is not same as my original ps4 controller(it just feels like inferior plastic) and it's more light, and a main problem is the pad dead zone is big asf, even i turn it into zero,I also can feel it obviously , especially when I play race game(it's so disturbing). And after about 2 months playing, my USB port can't work ,and now I use my original one again,.So the point is if you want to buy a extra controller, don't buy one cause it's cheap ,buy a good one although it's more expensive ,but you can use more longer and comfortable.

If you attempt to play with a fake one you'll get a notification on your playstation telling you that the controller your using is unofficial and that it may not work properly.
Sometimes not all the time though
I bought a fake one purposely (cos I'm a student). Some features lacking, example vibration (but I fixed it with another free software). Other than that, works fine. So if you're short on budget, fakes are an option (depends on seller)
My controller doesnt have that unofficial notification though...
Damn! I'm glad to find out i got an original!
Don't know until you know
I have seen some of these fake ones sold in most retro gaming stores and they want to sell them as original people be very careful when you buy them from pawn shops and retro gaming stores
You can easily tell which is fake without openig the box, if you can see a usb cable is fake, If you cant see one if you shake it and feel something like a cable then it has one and if it has a cable is fake
bs
It's really sad a original controller without a cable. So, if the manufacturer treats you like shit and forces you to buy the cable that must be included to charge the controller, it's the original?
I purchased the one on the left from Walmart.
Seems like a good place to pickup a real one

If the fake one is cheaper and it works properly - even if the buttons are hard and the quality is somewhat poorer - I'll still buy the cheap one because everything is just so expensive now.

God bless.
3:53 You can see how the mold extrusion was awful, the curved plastic finish right to the "share" button is damaged...
ya, they can't get everything perfect, we notice the details
U know damn well it's fake if the controller is glossy 💀
Some of the colors on real DS4s are kinda glossy
i have no problems playing with fake ps4 controllers. yes, it is crappy. analog behaves like sh*t, deadzone is too high so no precise movements, vibration & speaker feels cheap.
but, you can make the controller behaves like the original. most fake/oem controllers now use same connectors of vibration motor, analog sticks, r2/l2 pad, conductive film as the original v2 ds4 if I'm not mistaken. the battery uses connector like v1 ds4.
if u know and good at solder, you're at luck but u had to cash out money a bit.
in my place, these set of original components would cost under $5. i replaced everything i can in the fake controller with the original ones. and voila, u just got yourself an "original" ds4 and i never have complained about it ever since. everything works like the original. still running for a year and still working like a charm!
That included cable is a dead giveaway. Other signs to watch for:
Typos in the packaging’s fine print
Inconsistency in the model codes between the regional packaging or the controller label
Sloppy molding, especially in fine details like the speaker holes
Protective plastic tabs stuck to the touch screen
Nonstandard screws
If you take the effort to open it up, the battery is glaringly obvious in the fakes
Good Checklist
I new what one was fake from thumbnail. I've gone through so many controller to know the packaging too well....
first one you opened is V2 and second V1 (confirm by serial number on backsticker as well as V2 has additional led above touchpad). V2 came with Slim and Pro but they are 100% compatible and work with any PS4(as well as PC, PS5(ps4 games only) and few other systems). these are both real but your V2 might not be made by Sony but by licensed manuf. fake ones are easy to find since they are missing sticker alltoghether(at least few dozen ive seen) although i did hear about fake with stickers but havent seen those so might or mighht not exist.
