I've been told EDI was going away for the last 25 years. EDI documents are audit friendly, smaller than API documents and if you're doing 100,000 EDI docs per week versus API docs, you're going to be done in one fifth the time. API is a realtime connection but EDI, when not in big batches can be almost realtime. Here's where EDI destroys API... When you want to switch your trading partner because that vendor sucks and you're fully integrated with their custom API solution, the EDI system can quickly move to a new partner very fast. API, it depends on how good their API is. Everyone should have the mandatory fields in EDI.

How about all trading partners follow generic API specification, it will be good as EDI.
