Thank you. I've just got into smocking, by hand, and I didn't know you could have wider fabric go through a smocking machine. I might have to buy one now.
Thank you for posting the link in the description. I’ve been searching for a pleating machine for some time but availability in the USA is limited. Again, thank you very much!
You can do 24 full space rows in one go, if you need more than 24 full space rows, do the extra rows first then flatten out and then re-insert to do the 24 rows. Hope this helps.
@@houseofsmocking Thanks for your quick replay. I am envisioning doing the smocking pleat down an entire piece of fabric to create a dress with tiny pleats all the way down. Does that make sense? Kind of like a Fortuny Delphos dress.
@@norachavez1818 I have had a look at the Fortuny Delphos dress, I don't think you could pleat the whole fabric like that on a Pleater, maybe the fabric is like that already?
The details of the bodice? Of the little dress is absolutely beautiful. Yet, I dont associate the details with just smocking? Please explain how that was accomplished?
Hi, thank you for your nice comment, I did the smocking using the Myles Smocking plate by Ellen McCarn, it is a lovely design and I really loved adding the ribbon feature. The Smocking plate is available on my website houseofsmocking.co.uk
@@houseofsmocking Okay, I understand that you used the smocking tool. That is for sale. However, you say, that you used ribbon embroidery? Or so, you added this to the smocked bodice? That beautiful elaborate scalloped detail. Very intricate details. So, perhaps this was your intricate embroidery?

Says that I need a top of 8 inches finish with the pleats, how large do I need the fabric mesure before the pleats?? I am French speaking and I hope that my question is clear in English! Thanks.
Hi Claudette, the general rule is 3 inch of fabric will give you 1 inch of smocking but this depends on the thickness of your fabric. If your fabric is very fine (thin) you will need more but if you fabric is thicker then you would need less. However with the fine fabric in the video you would need 34 inches to get 8 inches of smocking. Hope this helps. Thanks Christine
If you would like to use the thread feeder box with the Pleater then I recommend the Princess Pleater. Would have been nice if she started at the beginning on the needles and threading them. I bought one at a thrift store, didn't know what it was, just thought it was interesting, and crimped paper in it. Now I know its for smocking. But don't know about the needles
Hello, you can buy this Pleater on www.houseofsmocking.co.uk add the Pleater to your basket then put your country and post code in 'estimate shipping' box and click, estimate, this will give the postage costs to Pakistan. Thanks Christine
You can do this with all Read Pleaters, the Amana Jane, Super Amanda and the Sally Stanley. I haven't used any other Pleaters to be able to comment on how others work, but I have used all the above Pleaters for my smocking projects. The main difference with pleaters is the way you remove the bar and the amount of needle spaces. The way you pleat, tends to be the same. Hope this helps.
Hi Elena, yes the largest pleater available is a 24 full space 47 half space one, choose either Read Maxi or Princess. I am hoping to get the Read Pleaters back in stock very soon. Thanks Christine
Thank you. I've just got into smocking, by hand, and I didn't know you could have wider fabric go through a smocking machine. I might have to buy one now.
Absolutely, the fabric goes through and under each side plate so there is no limitation on how wide your fabric can be.
The dress in the beginning of the video is amazing!
