Great Instructions. I have been smocking for about 50 years, but I only had my pleaters for about 25. I always approach it with a bit of fear but I’ve never even had a broken needle. I’ve pleated fabrics as thick as pinwale corduroy or cotton Velveteen. The hardest was a shoulder to waist little girls dress with two layers of fabric. Polyester satin with an overlay of polyester organza. Slippery as ice and did not want to stay in the rollers. Even worse, I only had a 16 row Pullen pleater and I had to pleat I think it was 26 rows. Which meant I had to feed the fabric twice. I was perfect even with all the various issues! That’s why I watch every video and read every set of instructions. I always learn a new trick or two!
@@houseofsmocking it was one of my favourite smocking stories but I didn’t do the smocking. It was my nephews wife for a dress for a dress she wanted to. Are for her uncles wedding. Jenn asked if I thought she could do smocking and I told her “of course you can it’s easy”. So she sat down with all of my issues of Australian smocking and embroidery. She picked one! Something I might have thought was something I might not tackle. It was a full front of the dress that was smocked but it was also beaded with hundreds of seed beads. Jenn had no trouble with the smocking but every time I talked to her she knew the exact number of beads that she had applied. It was all worth it. Jessica was (just 4 or 5) who had the biggest blue eyes stood in front of my floor length mirror and she was enthralled with herself. And her first comment “Look at me, I’m beautiful” I made a fancy hanky for her for her wedding that was leftover from the dress I made for her first birthday. I had told her mom that I was going to save the fabric for that when we were watching Jessica run around the back yard on her first birthday!
Just bought a second-hand Princess pleater on eBay and ordered two packets of needles from House of Smocking. Can’t wait to get started, but first I need to find a dowel. Thank you for the clear instructions.

Yes but it would be pointless as you don't get a locking thread, you need to put your elastic thread on the spool in your sewing machine if you don't plan to hand smock.
Hi I just got a pleater yesterday and the bar at the bottom and above the needles moves round a lot, I don't know if its normal but it feels a little loose in the socket and it broke two of the needles while I was testing it, is there a way to tighten the bars?

I would say snuggly along the length of the dowel
