Well Pinky, today I broke out the 24 row Sally Stanley pleater I bought on ebay. It was so hard to turn the knob. I banged on it a while then I went to youtube and there you are. You saved the day. I took it apart and cleaned and oiled it. Thank you so much. I was almost to give up on it. Now it works great for me.
Do you happen to have another video demonstrating how you insert the needles? I just bought a used pleater on eBay. I anticipate it’ll need a good cleaning and oiling. I’m more than a bit nervous to take the pleater apart, this video certainly gives good detail.
Sally, congratulations on the new pleater! I don't have another video but the needles just lay in the grooves with the eye of the needle out and the point facing into the groove. When you take the first bar out, even if you aren't taking it completely apart to clean and oil it, you will see how the needles lay in the groves.
Hello! Thank you for your videos I just bought a Sally Stanley second hand and I noticed it has dark spots kind of dark brown, what do you think is this? Thank you!
It could just be the brass changing color. Mine has some dark spots and it isn’t a problem at all. I would give it a good cleaning and then put some scrap fabric through it to catch any cleaning residue and give it a whirl!
I am sorry but I do not know where to purchase a pleater in India. I would contact Read pleaters in South Africa and Princess pleaters in the UK and see it they can ship to India.
Rebecca, I am sorry but I don't have a Read but they do have training videos on their site. I would google read pleaters and see if you can figure it out by looking at their videos.
Zamana, here is a post all about purchasing a pleater, both new and used. www.pinkhollybushdesigns.com/post/2018/02/16/smocking-the-basics-pleating-resources

It can simply be the brass discoloring over time. Put a scrap of white fabric through the pleater and if nothing is transferring to the fabric, I wouldn’t worry about it.

I have an older reed pleater that I cleaned and I can't figure out which rods go in the correct spots. I am so upset with myself. Please help me?
