Never heard gilmour singing like that. He always seems to be in the background controlling himself, doing everything more with technique than emotion. Sounds amazing.
Good question. But it's true that Gilmour's vocal on the album was stepped up a tone because he couldn't quite reach the high notes, so it did sound a little different to his usual voice.
I saw this tour when it came through Vancouver. Unforgettable. Seen as it should be on psychedelics. In the beginning of this song, when the sound rises like an elevator I actually got that feeling in my stomach that you get when an elevator launches really fast. I was astonished to find my feet were still on the ground.
To those who complain about clapping: can you just imagine what that show meant for those Soviet people? Being behind the iron curtain for most time of their lives, not even being able to listen to music they love at one point in history and finally seing their idols with their own eyes. So stop calling them silly - by that you’re showing yourselves as fools
Only Exception was Have a Cigar where both Roger & Dave failed or they just did not seriously try enough and so it was sung by Roy Harper .Roger later regretted it though
There’s also a line in this song he couldn’t sing. Think was the last line he said he couldn’t reach the note. So in the studio version they played with the tape to get it right.
I stunned when I listen to this first. For a long time, my sound system was not match this music. Now thanks to U tube, I understand the sound better than then. I should have listened this music earlier!
Is the voice heard on the original version actually David's voice, or is it just Rick's keyboard? Every time I hear it, I can't really make out what which one it is, exactly.
@@k0n158 David double tracked the vocals, and probably warped the tapes a bit to get a metallic...sort of sound. I've always imagined that part of the song to be akin to an outcry of regret and sorrow.
The film they would project on the secreens , on the very long and excellent DSOT tour , was just splendid . I was a tender 13 years old , when i saw this tour along with my parents in '88 . My 1st ' modern ' music concert ...
Although it might be meaningless I really feel the urge to express how this song and especially this live made me feel.. It's the first time I cry to a song not cause of sadness or cause I relate with the lyrics but cause of how beautiful this song is... It's like a nostalgia even though I wasn't in the concert and then sadness for missing those years and the beauties they had to give just like this song and pink floyd in general, it really moves me and makes me feel glad to be able to feel such a thing even from a youtube upload.. Truly amazing what a song can make you feel.. And what music has to give when used at it's full potential.
Thats right and one good example of that is Have a cigar that say's you gonna be a rocksatr or you gonna fly high they gonna love you an offer to be a rock artist! Pink floyd jus my favorite band
"There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part; you can't even passively take part, and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop." - Mario Savio
Whether it is david or roger singing this is not my problem. It was written by roger, performed by all of them pink floyd, and it is VERY BEAUTIFULLY SANG is alright by me. Thank you
Excellent cut! Friends, this music has no less than 35 yrs... It's a great musical piece as well as a technological prodigy. In the 70s synths were just beggining, but these guies made them to sound great!
I can't believe all the thumbs up to Roger. Just like Axl tried to own GN'R and has made 1 (a whole ONE) album since Slash left in 96, Roger tried to own the Floyd with the likes of "Roger Waters - The Wall". C'mon, really? Have you heard any of Gilmour's recent live shows? He's phenomenal. Poor Syd, with that look in his eyes, like black holes in the sky, fried his original, magical imagination way too soon. David stepped up and is still a master guitarist and his voice is unmistakable.
Roger Waters couldn't put fantastic shows the way Pink Floyd did after his departure because he didn't have the means to, as a huge name like Pink Floyd would. But Roger Waters was THE songwriting force behind Pink Floyd's best albums, including this song. Pink Floyd's post Roger Waters era is the most insignificant part of their career musically. Yet, Roger Waters wrote one of the best albums of all time, in my opinion, The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking, immediately after he left Pink Floyd, and followed with 2 more great concept albums. So yes, David Gilmour is awesome, but the best Pink Floyd material comes from the band as a whole unit.
MsDragonFire this isnt roger so why are we talking about him? or you? it is a pink Floyd video.. go to a david Group, and i love David btw, just dont see why you's stir the post..
Without the guitar and musical sense of David Gilmour Pink Floyd would have been no better than if it hadn't had the song writing genius that was Roger Waters. You can tell David Gilmours' guitar licks in about 2 bars. Take either one out of pink Floyd and you might very well have had a forgettable band. Waters is much more the arsehole of the band though. An ego the size of the Rockies and the great plains in one.
I used to have a boot leg of one of the shows from this tour and Dave was having a GREAT night and he killed on this tune, I wish I could remember the name of the bootleg record, it was under one of their fake names that they would use when they were road testing things, like when they played under the name "The Screaming Abdads", they had several weird anonymous names they used to use.
David Gilmour was always underrated. Ironcally, his voice and guitar sound were the first things that got me hooked into Pink Floyd.
He was always my favorite singer. His songs are all my favorites
I prefer David to Roger, although I love it all :)
I never thought he was unrated ... my favorite guitarist and the best sound of any guitarist.
Same thing here. Totally understand you.
When i hear Pink floyd i hear Gilmour.
That's not irony. It's good taste.
I remember this concert. I could not buy tickets so I got inside pretending to be a fireman
This is a dope ass comment!
😂😂
...there was FIRE on stage, did you really realize that? No, don`t think so...
You recognize a true fan when one is willing to be in jail for a concert
its true, I was the show
God that voice hits directly into my soul
This is the MOST underrated Pink Floyd song... ever
cymbaline....
Summer 68 by Wright
I saw Floyd 3 times. I am very fortunate
You are
“What did you dream? Its alright, we’ve told you what to dream”... this live concert came at an appropriate time.
Future of AI. Meta Verse. We need a pro human future. Fight the New world order
Gilmour's voice is power and beauty.
Dave's voice is just amazing...
Never heard gilmour singing like that.
He always seems to be in the background controlling himself, doing everything more with technique than emotion. Sounds amazing.
Listen to him sing is in 1977 at Oakland!
How about young lust? You should listen to that and be surprised
Actually he has an interview where he taks about that he isnt really a technical player he plays off what he wants to hear
Ryan Shumaker it's not talk about guitar bro, they are talk about his vocal
71 Echoes oh whoops lol
I'd like to sing with that kind of agressiv and powerfull voice....
Yea me too. Haven't a clue how to start though.
With Gilmour passiveness at the same time
Never heard David sing as aggressive like on this song ! It's great !!!
He knew lol 😆
So gritty. Perfection. So much feeling behind it.
gilmour`s voice is timeless
it’s a crime that this song doesn’t have a music video. a real one
Why does everyone in the comments think Waters sang this tune? Gilmour sang it on the origonal LP and just as well here! excellent performance!
+EclipseSor Roger wrote it, so it's a Waters tune, Peace.
Keiran Bradley Everyone thinks waters sang this tune in the comments*, Thanks
***** They can't have very good ears !!, Davids' voice & delivery is completely different than Rogers' IMHO, Peace.

yes

Roger is still using this animation on his current tour. It's superb

+Zigz Zagz that's amazing
I remember the feeling well but with me it was on headphones in my room
Michael head phones with your eyes closed enhance the experience
Never go to an intermediary for what you can get directly.
Holly Shit! Wright was insane on that keyboard
wright was so underrated he was the glue of the real Floyd, keyboards were fantastic, was he the steak bar or the jaguar??????
Both
Jadee match Sid always ate at the steak bar and loved to drive in his jaguar
Shorter of breath one day closer to death
You're so right. It was Rick Wright's playing that gave Floyd that visceral other-worldly feel.
Jag You Are.
Jesus, what a powerful voice! Great version. Thanks for sharing
I was there. 26 years ago. Terrible..:) It was a great experience. Perfect sound, perfect wiev, perfect technics.
tell me more
Pink Floyd rocks, they were way ahead of thier time with the lyrics of thier songs. Always been a lifelong fan of this awesome band
Awesome David's performance. with Richard Wright excellences on keyboards
Fucking badass. I remember randomly hearing this on a Classic Rock Radio only a couple months ago, and fell in love with how it sounded.
Makes me think of the new world order today and the technocracy surveillance big brother
So fucking gritty, his vocals in this live performance. Perfection.

Yes you are so right
They needed help
I mean they are still silly, though.
Music is subjective but this is not political. This is something higher beyond comprehension as is most of their songs.
dave's voice never sounded better
fr
One of my fave PF tracks that so many people have never heard. DG sounds very powerful in this performance
I just love the atmosphere created by Richard on this track.
Pink Floyd is just one of the most awesome bands ever. And thee most creative, period.
My favorite Floyd tune along with High Hopes
Seen them in Mannheim in 88. Such an incredible show. The memories!!
You can spend years in therapy, or you can sing your lungs out singing Welcome to the machine. The choice is yours.
This is going on my FB status right now 💯😂
davide guilmour the king of guitar in the word
I want to agree with you but also say page
@@sameerabdul2627 page = Skill
Gilmour = Feel
This song and "Comfortably Numb" are my all time favorites of PF!!!!
Thank you that was awesome. David sounds great ....when Roger said david could sing anything he meant it.
Janet Strayer dude could sing the alphabet and make it sound amazing

Grazie a voi
They played this song on person of interest towards the end of the season. Great song.

That's easy for you to say.
Dave the best of Guitar!!.
I stunned when I listen to this first.
For a long time, my sound system was not match this music.
Now thanks to U tube, I understand the sound better than then.

My son’s favorite Floyd song. God, I love him. 🙂
was my favorite song when I was about 10, my Dad had introduced me !!
what is yours

I was at that concert in Moscow. It was my first Pink Floyd concert.
3:48 that voice riff behind the synth always blows my mind. You can hear it on the album version too

man it has so much more energy live. awesome
As close to a Metal vocal performance for Gilmour. Best thing about this version. Excellence, nothing less. Most impressive is that this is live.
Totally. I reckon Have A Cigar would have sounded killer on this tour if Gilmour gave singing it a go with this voice.
best live version on youtube , imo.
this song was phenomenall live when I seen it in 88 just wish I could get to see a proper video as the sound and visuals were astonishing
David's voice doing this song during the tour is amazing.
Absolutely great. Was on this show in Moscow (yes. I'm quite old :), eyes were full of tears on this song. I don't know why. Magic.
Won’t be seeing Pink Floyd in my life time but at least I can see Gilmour
Among all the other awesome things you could say about Floyd, one must also note that they do a heck of a live show.
This is a eternal masterpiece ❤
Where have you been?
Its alright we know where you've been.
Damn that bar hit me like a bullet.

David kills this song
The voice you hear is one of great pain & knowledge. They have felt what it's like to suffer.
Fantastic!!! Great performance, good sound recorder, nice guitar solo (from Tim R. I think... "he played the mean guitar..."), Wright amazing!
Ineffable voice...
