i saw it coming, there are way too many HUGE stories that can be covered and with an audience old enough to really grasp the depth of the context and messages.

While everyone was always crazy about Wolverine, Gambit was always my favorite character. His powers, his look, his swagger always deserved the love. The movies couldn’t figure him out but this series even from the 90s did. RIP Mon Ami.
It’s not that they didn’t understand him, they just made him a side character to Wolverine. Like they did the whole team in the movies. The times he got to show his powers, I thought it was cool. I do wish they would’ve let him have more screen time.

@@donnyouttheway4091 Very true. Wolverine has been the face of the X-Men since the 70s so almost everyone takes a backseat to him, especially in the forms of media that aren’t the comics. Marvel was run by the Toy Biz owner, Ike Perlmutter, back then and he saw how well Wolverine’s action figures were selling. Every single on screen choice that he made was to sell more action figures. He even chose Iron Man over Captain America as the first MCU film solely on the fact that he thought kids would rather play with a character in a robotic suit that could fly.
Gambit was never toxic in the old show he was honorable, he dedicated himself to someone who can’t touch anyone despite being able to easily get anyone he wants (his introduction in the first episode is a clerk trying to get in his pants) and Rogue loved him for it, she would have a panic attack when she thought Gambit was hooking up with someone. Gambit in the one episode dedicated to him proved he was both an honorable man and a respectable X-Man, he didn’t need 97 for that, this latest episode just showed what fans would’ve expected out of him. No one ever questioned if Rogue would’ve hooked up with Gambit if she could since it was obvious, as much as Gambit loved her he cared for her overall moreso, thats why he constantly hanged around her to keep her company, and why he was cool here with giving Rogue some Magneto time to figure out what real love is. Gambit was a player before Rogue and a real man after Rogue.

Agreed. Gambit was, (as the comment above states) a confident ladies man, but he was loyal to Rogue. Gambit never displayed inappropriate behaviour towards her. He cared for her deeply and I believe she did too. So much so that she didn't want to hurt him because of her powers. He claimed he could take it but she didn't want to take the risk of hurting someone she loved.
Another sad part about this episode for me was that he died not knowing that she realised love goes beyond physical touch, and chose him over Magneto 😢

I’m sorry but saying that the 90’s show gambit was creepy is a gross misrepresentation and misunderstanding of he character. One of his memorable lines is “Gambit don’t EVER go where he’s not invited”
At one point maybe that’s the habits he had, but the flirting is 100% part of his act. That’s surface level. When in reality that man is 100% ready to spend the rest of his life with rogue despite knowing he may never get what a lesser man would leave her for.
Because he loves her he exhibits the deepest amount of patience, respect, and restraint. He’s not just chasing after something he can’t have. He’s not trying to push her boundaries, but he’s persistent because he wants her to know they he doesn’t give a flying flip whether she can actually touch him or not. Rogue fully believes that a man could never truly love her because they can’t touch her, but Remy wants her regardless. He’s constantly suggesting dates and outings and other ways to spend time with her that don’t involve something physical. He shows HER that love is more than skin deep and there were several moments where he did that in the original series, as well. He’s willing to wait for her, he’s a different and more redeemed man than the thief that he was before he joined the X-Men.
And that’s not to say that Rogue’s worth is determined by whether a man loves her or not. Of course that is NOT true
But she cares about Remy and at times encourages his advances and at times turned him away because of how much hurting him or anyone else scares her.
Gambit always came off as a major F-Boy to me. I’m sure he has an actual a character behind that. But as a kid he gave me a Pepe Le Pieu vibe and that turned me off. I wouldn’t even change this about him. Not every character is meant to click with every person.
Also I should admit I’m biased because I usually dislike any man from The South. Grew up around too many racist rednecks.

Put some respect on my boy gambit name dude may have massive rizz in the original series but, he didn't have any toxic masculinity always like him for being a cool ,and confident ,and this episode prove that seeing him sacrificing himself to save the rest of mutant on genosha was very poetic symbolism ,and bittersweet moments since he always have a tragic backstory in the comics RIP mon ami.

It really hit me so emotionally hard too, and I literally didn't expect them to kill him off in that episode. I absolutely love him so much, I also love his and Rogue's romance since they're my 2nd favorite X-Men couple. I'm really going to miss Gambit a lot, I'll be crying so hard when the next episode comes and he's not in the opening, it's going to hit me even harder emotionally.

Im actually blown away by how many people loved Gambit. He's always been my favorite X-Men character (then Iceman and Archeangel). Episode 5 was such a fantastic episode and highlights Remy's many sides. A comedic relief, hopeless romantic, insane acrobatics, the brash hero and the selfless sacrifice at the end. True chef's kiss. Will miss him so much if he's not brought back

My first time watching any XMEN show or movie and he is 100% my favorite character even before episode 5. Sad he is dead.

I just want Gambit and Rogue back together and then I'm good as someone who even read all the Mr. & Mrs. X comics after their surprise wedding when Colossus and Kitty Pryde didn't get married in that issue which Marvel hyped up and slapped everyone in the face like the infamous Batman and Catwoman wedding.

Rogue returned Gambits affections but always put her gloves up n kissed her hand because she didn’t want to hurt him. That’s always how she was with him. A funny love/hate relationship.
The sentinel said “omega level mutant detected” while looking at gambit and rogue, then shifted his focus to magneto when he brought up his magnetic field. The sentinel was aiming at gambit and switched when it thought magneto was going to attack.
People are already saying it and I wrote and essay BUT DO YOU PEOPLE HAVE ANY IDEA how Remy shows the most patience and restraint of probably any comic book character ever written. Maybe it started at as something silly but eventually he grows to love rogue and is probably one of the most loyal men in the superhero genre. I don’t know if I’m the comics he ever hooked up with anyone other than her or Belladonna but regardless in the series he made it his mission to shower Rogue with love and affection whilst completely understanding he may never be able to have a physical relationship with her. He’s the type of man that loves and accepts her anyway and doesn’t see her as something broken

Gambit was always my favourite as a kid, throwing exploding playing cards was just so cool. Episode 5 broke my heart, but he went out in such an epic way, my instant thought was Boromir from LOTR, a flawed character who redeems himself with one epic act of heroic sacrifice

Remember it... Now we're not gonna see anymore of Remy riding on Wolverine, charging up his claws... That was one of the coolest things I've seen in Marvel for a long time, since like the 1st Avengers movie. There needs to be more team ups combining powers
While I think Cable's time-traveling shenanigans will fix everything, I kinda hope he doesn't. Because after giving this some thought, this could be awesome if they left the deaths unchanged, because it means we may get Revolutionary Cyclops. We saw in the episode how pissed he was BEFORE the massacre happened, this will definitely push him over the edge, maybe make him start his X-Force team like in the comics.
Also, notice how Emma wasn't in the 'dead mutants' pile despite being next to Sebastian Shaw earlier, who is in that pile. If they follow the comics, it was this event with Genosha and the giant Sentinel that awakened her secondary mutation/power, her Diamond form, which saved her life. I think that might happen here, afterwards she joins the X-Men and maybe Scott's new lover, like again, maintaining comic canon.
That's the thing about Cable (and Bishop) and time travel in general. He's never actually FIXED anything long term from doing so.

Leech is shown to be able to control his powers in the show, unlike in the movies... where he wasn't even green.
The last time we saw Apocalypse was when he escaped the astral plane/ void at the end of time, by taking over Cortez's body. He is definitely the one that Cable was warning his mom about, I can see Sinister working with Apocalypse again, but I don't see him being the primary villain for very long.
Could be Apocalypse or Bastion.

Having him save the Morlocks was a super cool detail. In the comics he helped Sinister assemble the Marauders who killed a lot of Morlocks in the Mutant Massacre. When they later discovered this, he was expelled from the X-Men for a time. So when he swung in through the window to save the day it was the cherry on top.
I think were gonna see cyclops in the black uniform with the red x this season after that outburst and the death of all those mutants hes gonna be more militant than ever.
Sorry to be the um actually guy but during the Christmas episode storm gives Callisto full leadership of the Morlocks after not doing anything for them since getting the position. If I remember right Callisto lost her role to storm in that duel, then was acting leader until that episode. So the morlocks really don’t have a leader right now, theirs is fully dead.

I got up from my desk the day after that episode, locked eyes with little Gambit, standing next to little Rogue. Teared up and muttered 'those mother fuckers'.
I'm hoping that, with Cable trying to stop the event, that he WILL stop the event, and the most important couple (to me) in comic history will be reunited.

Never trust anyone who talks smack about Gambit. He was awesome, wasn’t as powerful as the other X-Men but he definitely earned his spot and more importantly he went out like a true hero remember his name, Gambit!
That’s the thing Gambit is one of the most powerful mutants in the comics he just rarely was able to showcase it in the series since he wasn’t the most popular one. He was my favorite X man. I hope one day they’ll build a series or movie to pick up his character. I agree with most everything you said! he went out heroically.
Apocalypse is so iconic the shape on his chest became the first letter of the alphabet, not the other way around.
I don't think Magneto is dead, and I don't think the Wild Sentinel was targeting him. If you look closely the targeting system is actually tracking Leech, he just happens to be laying on Magneto. In addition, if Leech touched magneto and took his powers, then the Sentinel would no longer detect him.
Magneto is protected from Rogue taking his powers, but not from Leech?

Magneto is a confirmed Omega level mutant.
Omega level means that the mutant power is powerful enough to become a global threat. For example, Magneto can reverse the Earth’s magnetic poles or remove its atmosphere, leading to the destruction of all life.
Leech is an Epsilon or Beta level mutant - the two weakest class of mutant. He can only depower or severely weaken other mutant powers of those that stand within ten feet of him.
Leech can control his powers in the show
Being a woman in my 30’s and having grown up on the X-men cartoon, and also rewatching it several times as an adult now, I’ve always had a thing about Gambit. I loved his personality in the original series and I still love it in the new one. I just hate how they killed him off now!!
Maybe the X-Men 97 timeline is Universe 616 and just all or most of the X-Men and Mutants were wiped out in the years before the Avengers came along?
The creator said this is not that universe.
Feige states that the MCU is 616, which is stupid. 616 are the comics. And the MCU is an adaption of the comics. He should have just said something arbitrary like the MCU is 617.
Something that stuck out to me was the wild sentinel looking at Magneto, Rogue, and Gambit and stating he located an omega mutant. We think it's Magneto, but in the comics, Sinister gave Gambit a sort of lobotomy to tone down his powers from omega. I wonder if that was a little nod to foreshadow he was also an omega and had already been selectively lobotomized? That can't be nothing...

Magneto's German was translated strangely. Had = have, Kiene = No, Angst = Fear.
When you read "dont be afraid" it comes off like death language.

Im prettty sure bastion is going to show up as the villain of the season he probably behind the attack on the mutant leading cable / hope storyline there is a photo easter egg of him on forge's corkboard in episode 4.

Gambit was always my favorite. The 92 xmen were my introduction to the comic world. 2nd grade I was drawing Gambit. He was the coolest character and everyone lovwd him. Rest in piece Gambit.

As a young woman who first watched the original 90’s series during lockdown in 2020, in the first few episodes gambit wasn’t my favorite, and I found Rogue annoying. I didn’t find him creepy, necessarily.
I don’t exactly always gravitate towards those types of “sauve” male characters. I’m into the awkward nerds.
But Gambit’s character is neat because his entire story is a redemption arc. At one point he WAS a bit of a womanizer, or maybe not really that but he was a thief and learned to resort to less than wholesome tactics to survive. And from what I understand in the comics the buy guy has a LOT of guilt and regrets about his past and the morloch massacre and all of that.
The thing is, or at least how I’ve always interpreted it, by the time he joins the X-men and after he meets rogue, he is so much more mature than that. There is an element of “he wants rogue because he can’t have her”
But it’s so much more than that. His flirting is part of his character façade, same as the 3rd person talking and the excessive French. (That’s not how Cajuns sound, btw, but for the record I know a few Cajuns who call everybody Cher)
This is getting lengthy but basically, him having moments where maybe he gets to close to her is NOT because he doesn’t respect her as a woman. From my understanding, it’s not that he is just creepily overtaken by lust and can’t keep his hands to himself. It’s special because he doesn’t care about getting hurt. He doesn’t turn her away and he wants her to know he’s not gonna give up on her, and she feels like literally everyone will.
It’s persistent, but it’s not like she isn’t encouraging it or flirting back.
But the key is that he grows to care about her and IS the one to learn that things are so much more than skin deep. That man is prepared to love her for the rest of his life without ever being able to touch her.
The point of Remy is that he does value her despite not being able to get what a lesser man would want, and despite her considering herself unlovable
Gambit is an attractive character. Dude is just talking out his ass, Rouge likes him back and it's shows during his demise

I believe Leech is now able to control his power at this point. Early in the episode, he is playing near Rain Boy, Glob, and Pixie. No one loses their power in that scene.
With that said, I believe that Magneto went subterranean to save himself and the Morlocks. The minute they did, Leech activates his powers, which fools the Sentinel's sensors into believing the threat was neutralized.
Oh that makes more sense than my theory. I was thinking a Morlock got them out somehow physically, but Leech hiding all their mutant abilities from the sentinels makes much more sense.

Morph is cool. He’s essentially fulfilling a Deadpool-like role.
He’s Deadpool, but at a “4” instead of “11”.
Morph is actually really toned down for the show. In the comics, he was in woman shape half the time, the same grey face, but giant red lips and boobs, etc.
Morph is just a giant troll. And he’s fun.
If he was in the show how he is in the comics, you’d lose your mind.

Charles reaches out to Magneto's mind, they are both overwhelmed by emotions and merge into one! Mutants unite to take it down which divides public opinions.
