    Hi my name is Mark and I have helped thousands of people learn how to keep and breed shrimp over the years, I help aquarists go from killing shrimp to tanks busting full of shrimplets. 🦐✨
    Disclosure: Marks Shrimp Tanks is an affiliate of Aquaristik Shop and Send Owl, the book publisher. Mark earns a small commission fee for each sale, and all of the money goes back into shrimp keeping. Just don't tell his wife.

    If you lay the thread out flat, you can lay Moss across it, fold it over and twist it. You will get a noodle / yarn of moss. Almost like a chenille. Then you can wrap that over anything to attach moss.
    Fly Tying Trick. Called a 'Dubbing Loop'.

    good stuff, have done similar with my weeping willow moss for years ... but ever since I got a 3d printer I switched to my own designs for moss holders in which the plants are simply clipped into ... honeycomb grids for moss walls, moss spheres, tree like structures etc. ... models of such kind can also be found on sharing platforms like thingiverse.
    Surprising how many tools and parts I have printed for my tanks by now ... plantholders, filteradapters, food dishes, skimmer, shrimp-/plecocaves, lampholders and even entire frames for the cover of a few tanks.
    Might wanna look into 3d printing for aquariums, saved me a considerable amount of money over the time given how much shops want for some very basic stuff. Only thing to consider is the use of foodsafe plastics like PETG, alltho most PLA should be ok too its not so certain especially with some of the unusual colors.

    Fabulous and so much easier than using grid

    Love it. I've used skewers with suction cups on the ends as a floating plant barrier. 😅 Needless to say moving that up and down is a pain. I have lots of extra moss to do this though!

    I really like this. I’m thinking to make one and put it on the end that gets a touch of sun. It might help with algae

    I seen a mose round ring floating in the water at petco. I can't wait until I have enough moss to make one. Peco moss ring are made of styrofoam and I didn't want styrofoam in my tank.

      @MarksShrimpTanks  Месяц назад

      I know right the white doesnt look great in a tank but the foam its self is inert once its expanded.

    Might be even quicker to put together if you use a tank safe glue instead of thread, could just dip the lengthwise skewer onto a tray of your moss cuttings .... would take seconds instead of minutes

    Hi Mark, love the videos. i have a question about moss, I can' t keep it alive in my tanks but i can keep shrimp alive so thats the important part i guess, any tips for keeping moss alive?

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  Месяц назад +2

      Yes, absolutely you have to make it the dominant plant. If you get algae in it stop feeding the shrimp. If the moss yellows it needs nutrients.

      Thank you for the reply Mark and the valuable information about keeping moss alive, I was going to ask the same question, but like to read the comments first as to not bombard you with the same question 20 odd other people have asked 😂 happy Shrimp keeping

    What type of moss did you use?

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  Месяц назад

      Erect moss so it grows straight up, something else would have been better.

    Why do you use thread rather that fishing line? Doesn't the thread break down?

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  14 дней назад +1

      yes thats what I want, the plants over time attach to the item and the thread disapears.
