Fun story I heard recently, so hope you don't mind me resurrecting a year-old comment: The puppeteer for B2EMO is Dave Chapman, and he did the initial temporary voice lines to be taped over later. The showrunners listened to countless audition tapes from voice actors but eventually realized, his was the voice they wanted. So the voice of B2EMO is also the puppeteer driving his movements, who had no expectation of getting a voice credit and was reportedly "overwhelmed" at being included in this way.
These writers are not only good because they are good with words and plot building. They also do their research: from showing us traditions are more attractive to the youth among the diaspora to the polite fascists asking you nicely to come to your torture. These are real behaviors that enrich the story they are telling here, and they have been sprinkling them all throughout their screenplay.
That tradition scene brought back memories of talks with 2nd/3rd generation migrants who idolized the terrible places their (grand)parents had left to build a better life. Wonder if Leida will be as fond of the arranged marriage tradition?
@@Alfje17 Maybe calling them "terrible" places simplifies it a little bit, but yes: there was a reason for leaving. Sometimes it is even the shackles of tradition that moves people away. And then yes, subsequent generations idolize the past and the place of origin in an attempt to find a community. That is why I like this scene: Her going back to tradition is not only an ideological and generational difference, but also a rebellion towards both parents who do not subscribe to it and almost a call for attention. But it puts our Mon Mothma in an even more complicated situation, and I am wondering like you as well, whether Leida will be fond of the arranged marriage or it will be a rude awakening when she finds out a thug's son is a candidate. Good screenplay, so much to think and talk about. I'll stop here haha
@@TJDious I clicked with him thanks to his endearing awkwardness. He tried his best to make the galaxy a better place, through action and words and thoughts left behind.
@@supremefankai5480 some of the scenes where he explains how the empire does what he does gave me the "Woah, he's actually right, that makes sense" moment several times. It helps that his acting was very nice too. Naive, but determined, ready to give his all. I found him very endearing.
Cassian is orphaned presumably for the second time in his life. Interesting fact is that the actor, Diego Luna, is actually an orphan as his mother died in a car accident in 1982😢
Showing Maarvas death through close shots of B2EMO was as masterful as it was heartbreaking. Poor little guy:( I'm so glad Brazzo stayed with him for a little bit
They managed to make an off scene death of a character we saw just a couple of times, so meaningful! It was set up by the great Fiona Shaw though. And then those fn shots of the droid. Cudos to everyone involved in making the little guy work in a scene. Good film-making, on every step.
@@nikorex32 it's interesting to contrast with the very similar opening scene of Wakanda Forever (one of the better scenes of that movie). This scene from Andor (just one more plot point in the wider story, not the inciting incident) had way more impact for me. One more example of how great writing, directing, and acting coming together can make something that is more powerful and impactful than it has any right to be.
The scene with Luthen's ship almost getting caught was important to reinforce the idea that the Empire is tightening their grip everywhere. It also seems like it's been too easy for Luthen. ALSO, it's good to see that this puppet master has more than a few tricks up his sleeve yet.
I also think think scene wasn’t just filler. It establishes the weaponry and ability of the rebellion (if in fact those were lightsabers- which I hope they were, much cooler than just laser beams)
@@williamkrause5585 Personally I hated it. It fell straight back to the 'normal' of the Empire being incompetent and not getting a shot on Luthen's ship, while he had all the gadgets available to end the fight in moments. So far the series has avoided that in general, which I've loved, so I would have much preferred if he'd got away by fluke or at least having a badly damaged ship.
It was important to me cuz this random ship the Imperial Arrestor Cruiser found that didn't even seem that suspicious (they didn't pull him in for suspicion but 'practice') happened to be full of surprises and destroyed their primary satellite and their TIEs. The shock on the guy's face after it happens speaks loudly; 'how much are we up against here?' 'how big is this thing?'. It's tying in to a recurrent theme across the show - the Empire never actually expects to be beaten. They don't think about that.
Good point about the end of this episode being a parallel to Rogue One. I think the line he says to Jyn: "Your father would have been proud" has a lot more meaning given his desire to make Maarva proud
I felt so bad for Bix this episode man. She looked so broken and just defeated. You can just tell the screams of dying children are still ringing through her head.
I lost my mom to brain cancer 2 weeks ago. Maarva’s death absolutely destroyed me. I was sobbing as they went through her things and said “she would want you to have this” or something like that. I’ve been hearing that so much about my own mom. B2’s reaction captured how I personally felt so well. That entire scene was so well done and is so easy to relate to. Even at the end when Cassian gets the news, I know that exact feeling of just staring in shock. What an episode! Edit: I couldn’t care less if the character is actually dead or not, what was more impactful was how they handled it and the reactions to it and how it reminded me of what I just went through with my moms very real death. It has nothing to do with the character.
I question if she is dead. This might just be the way to get her out of there since she was being watched. It’s possible she figured out she was being watched and changed her mind about staying where she was.
@@HighDesertReporter760 dead or not, it’s the response to it that was most impactful. I have no connection to the fictional character, it reminded me of what I just went through with my mom. Also if that’s true you just spoiled it for everyone.
So sorry for your loss. I went through something similar too, losing my father in-law. And the shot of Maarva's empty chair... Heartbreaking. Take the time you need to find peace. Time doesn't make it easier, is just helps make it bearable. Peace be with you.
Gotta admit, my favorite part was the tractor beam scene. I was not expecting to see a proper representation of anti-tractor beam countermeasures in Star Wars media, but here we are. It reminded me heavily of an aircraft deploying chaff to try and avoid a radar-guided missile. Hell, the Countermeasure pods on Luthen's ship even looked like AN/ALE-40 Countermeasure Dispensers, only larger and built-in.
I agree. This scene was so hype. It truly felt like Star Wars with this scene for some reason. It made the political cloak and dagger more real to the SW universe
Honestly the B2EMO and Brasso momments are just heartwarming. You normally dont see droids being treated so kindly by others even by people who normally treat them better than most
He's treated like a person, rather than an "other" or a tool. I love that. He made genuine, living connections with the people around him, and people value those connections.
The relationship of people to droids in Star Wars is similar to the way people interact with animals in real life, some are used for work, other companionship, and the way people treat the animals in their life is more of a reflection of who the person is than anything else. Brasso proves in this episode that his has a kind heart.
@@jeffreycarman2185 the problem there is that Star Wars has always had seemingly sentient droids (and has since confirmed at least some droids to be fully sentient) that are self aware and understand concepts like inflicting pain and death. It makes treating them like animals sorta dance a little close to the edge of dehumanization of ethnic minorities. I agree with your sentiment, but I have never liked that Star Wars just avoids confronting the sentience issue. If droids are by and large sentient in the universe, then they are largely slaves and in many cases are slave combatants or even, at least in the old EU (not sure if any of this has carried over) sexual slaves. Avoiding the problem leaves the door wide open.
That dogfight sequence was definitely more than just an excuse to do a fun action scene. That was Luthen experiencing direct consequences for his own actions. He wanted the Empire to come down hard on civilians, and now the walls are closing in on him too. It’ll be some karmic retribution if that’s how he ends up going down.
@@Daniel-Strain He's saying that Luthen intentionally provoked the empire into tightening their grip on the galaxy, presumably killing, torturing, detaining, trillions more life forms, and now he's seeing the consequences of his own actions first hand.
A fun action scene with some plot direction. Syril can recognize Luthen by voice and now the ISB likely has a recording of it. Now they can ID Axis' ship.
Oh man, I loved all the cloak and dagger stuff in this episode. That's exactly the spy and intelligence focus I wished for in this series, alongside those sweet malleable morals.
Same here. But it speaks on how innovative George Lucas is. 100’s of characters thy could do small stories on. Makes you wonder about the sub par Solo movie.
I think her journey is the most dangerous as she must become the political leader of the entire rebellion! She must learn to work with whole planetary system governments and trade federations and get them fighting together instead of each other. She must also learn to lead the galaxy while not selling her soul and while still trying to hold her family together.
This was the first time we saw Saw get uncomfortable when having to do what’s necessary for the rebellion. It’s usually Saw that makes the people around himself uncomfortable not the other way around
I really enjoyed this episode. My eyes were glued to the screen the whole time. Mon Mothma's scene was incredible, the interaction between Saw and Luthen was amazing. Holy crap this show is SO GOOD. It doesn't feel like a television show to me. It feels like a massive movie that has been chopped up into little pieces, and I'm loving it.
Yes! I rewatched Rogue One last week as I was desperate for more Andor. It was shocking how quickly everything moves along with no time to stop and breathe! Much prefer the longer format when it's a high quality as this.
@@JTube571 and employ writers who know and care about the source material and legacy of the world they are writing for. It's also incredibly mature story telling.
Quick correction. The balding alien with razors for hands appears to be Narkinian as that’s the language the subtitles say he speaks, but the other creature speaking basic is clearly a Keredian, a creature we see as a member of Saw’s Partisans in Rogue One. I actually thought we were gonna see that guy take his quad-jumper to Segra Milo and meet the Partisans because of their appearance in this episode and the fact he wears the same mechanical eye-piece thingy as the Keredian partisan in Rogue One. Obviously I was wrong and it was just a reuse of the same alien costume with some new clothes or MAYBE (major conspiracy time) he is the same Keredian that is a member of the Partisans and will tell Saw about Andor and his location (most likely not though, just some fun speculation.)
@@delarkaBCN Would be really cool if we saw him again with the Partisans but don’t hold your breath, the Disney+ shows have been reusing alien costumes for awhile in a clever way to save budget for their shows, why waste time and resources on aliens for the show when they have a ton of movie-quality costumes and props in storage from past projects. Vetch, the big alien on Ferrix who tried intimidating Andor into paying back money he owed is the same creature costume as Bollie Prindel, a resistance general in the Force Awakens with some new clothes and the creature that was sleeping in Andor’s bed on Niamos when he came back for his stuff was a Blutopian, the same creature sleeping in Jyn Erso’s cell at the beginning of Rogue One, just to name a few examples. I’m not saying there’s no new aliens being made for Andor, there are some new ones like the Narkinian and the beaches of Niamos were full of never before seen aliens which was a lot of fun to see. Nothing but respect for the ILM creature department.
I think the space battle is meant to do two things: 1. It's meant to show that Luthen's ship is no ordinary ship, which will be important in episode 12 somehow, or in season 2 2. It is definitely going to cause trouble, if he returns to Coruscant without his ship causing some suspicion, and if he doesn't return it might cause suspicion as well. The second option feels more like a long shot tho, it is very much possible that Luthen is about to die next episode, especially considering there are several leads to him, and he doesn't seem like the kind of person who would allow himself to be captured, he's basically given up on life already anyway
Honestly I would bet that they are leading up to him being caught. I remember feeling confused about a lot of stuff they included in the first 2 episodes, only for it to make good sense as the story plays out. I bet they included this scene as the beginning of the end for Luthen, to show he’s a crafty and capable bastard but at the end of the day, he takes this ship to coruscant, even though he gave them false information I bet they can figure out who it actually belongs to. Ultimately just a guess, but this show hasn’t proven itself to be one that includes filler whatsoever. Everything has a purpose.
Hmmm. I haven't thought about the possibility of Luthen's death in this season, as he is a pivotal character. But it would make sense, maybe this (Luthen's sacrifice) would be the very thing pushing Mon Mothma to step into the light and go big.
I think The scene with Luthen’s ship is important cause it shows that he can’t keep hiding and that they’ll get to him eventually and he can feel it now, just like Mon Mothma is feeling that her time playing the game is ending and she must commit herself fully to the rebellion. And Diego Luna’s acting is always superb!
I actually go in to the episodes fresh without previews so everything including that James Bond action at the end, blew me away. Another masterful adventure.
Having watched your episode review for all Star Wars shows for years now It’s awesome to see how great you have become at analyzing these stories and adding such great context and real world examples to the show. It’s funny I look as forward to watching your review of each episode as I am for each episode. Andor right now is my favorite live action Star Wars series and your reviews and analysis are a huge reason why!
I think the Luthen's ship scene was to imply he's way more badass than we think. some say he's a Jedi survivor, I dont know, but that ship's equipment is way better than anything we've seen so far
@@TheStarBlack I love that there's no jedi around, but I wouldnt mind if he were a former Jedi. The cool thing is that we dont have magic tricks so it would be the same
Luthen’s Fondor Haulcraft is the most powerful non-military craft in all of Star Wars cannon (and a formidable craft when pitted against most Star Wars military craft of similar size as well).
Alex, I love how deep your analysis of this show is. You're catching so many details and moments in the story that so many of us miss! Thank you for taking the time to digest and break this stuff down the way you do it's a real treat!
The space battle, I think, is highlighting a major problem in Luthens operation. Luthen is the grand puppet master, pulling strings here there and everywhere to make sure that everything goes according to his plan yet the biggest flaw he has is a) himself (telling casian to kill cyrel, thereby letting cyrel know what emhe sounded like) but also random hapenstance. Luthen was literally speaking about chasing down loose ends that could lead anyone to him when all of a sudden "boom" he gets the starwars equivalent of being pulled over by a police car. Luthens fake ident code should have been enough to let him go, but in his puppet master paranoia he literally putts a bigger target on himself than Casian knowing him ever did. He's so consumed by making sure all his plates are spinning, and that his plans within his plans are working within those sub-plans he can't see that he's becoming the hindrance to his own mission - and thus will need a casian speech to kick him up the arse to make the man behind the curtain become a more visible figure that people can turn to, which will help build alliances. Also :'( B4EMO literally tears in my eyes.
What I got out of the scene of Luthen escaping the cruiser - why it may have been included - is that it shows another dimension to him: his ability to tangle with the Empire and survive. It shows how capable he is as a fighter.
9:52: "The axe forgets but the tree remembers," and so does Alex. Hat's off to you for tying that theme back into Syril Karn's arc. Nicely done! (I guess the identities of "axes" and "trees" depends greatly on one's point of view, and one can easily find themselves on the wrong end of that logic.)
One chilling moment - the transition from Bix to the Chandrilan prayer. Because Dr. Gorst described the alien prayers as "a sort of choral pleading" ... Dr. Gorst has no concept of "prayer". It simply isn't a word that occurs to his brain. At all.
The tractor beam scene was also an analogy. Luthen needed to gauge how hard the tractor beam was pulling. He forced them to pull harder by making it look like he was trying to run away. When they tightened their pull, that's when he sprung his trap and destroyed the tractor beam. That scene is basically the whole show in a nutshell. Also, did anyone else catch that the pattern on Melshi’s shirt is the same shape as prison they escaped from?
My heart was literally pouring out tears when it showed Cassians reaction to his adopted mothers death. The shock on his face was enough to convince me of Diego Luna being a top notch actor when portraying Cassian in grief and confusion over what happened to his mother while he’s been in prison.
Strongly disagree with your criticism of Luthen's organization structure. He's not running a rebellion yet, he's running a few terrorist cells. Don't forget when he first brought the idea of the attack on the power station to Saw, Saw's reaction was to reject it out of hand and he seemed like he would be more willing to attack Kreeger than the empire. These are unstable people in weak positions, there are no safe houses or territory to retreat to yet. Yavin and Dantooine haven't been established as rebel bases and no overt counter empire action has happened yet, only a few hit and run raids performed under the utmost secrecy. In Rogue One the rebel alliance all but fell apart and they had all those resources, Luthen is doing the best with what he has and loose lips sink ships.
I think its a testament to the show that both perspectives are understandable. You can disagree with any number of characters, but none of them seem to be acting unrealistically. Saw is often portrayed as an anti-hero or even just outright as a bad person in Star Wars content, but nothing seen in this show gives those vibes. He's just a man, with all too understandable vices and flaws. He's egotistical and paranoid, but both make perfect sense given his position. And for someone that other Star Wars content likes to portray as the terrorist rebel that always goes too far, he made a choice of restraint when told about a potential attack. Luthen is the same way. He makes a lot of choices that I think a lot of people disagree with, but he hasn't made any choices that I don't understand the logic behind. He's a believable character. He may not be doing the best things morally, but he does seem to be doing his best to achieve his goals that fit his world view. Whether or not you agree with that world view is something the show leaves up to you, but it's going to do its best to present why and how someone could reach those views.
You said the same thing he just said in the video and being pedantic. Not sure what you’re disagreeing with, he’s still using people as expendable assets.
@@epcarter6 he criticizes the approach as incorrect. If everyone just trusted each other and sang kumbaya everything would be great. That is both incredibly naive and I view the critique of the effectiveness to be incorrect and I provided both the reasons why I thought he was incorrect and a further example of why in even more permissive circumstances his approach still doesn't work.
@@Tirak117 His approach is incorrect which is why they’re loosing and not making any real progress. You can’t go about a situation like that and treat people as expendable and have disjointedness , you do have to have a level of trust. The rebellion would’ve never defeated the empire if they hadn’t started to operate with a sense of trust and cohesion and singing kumbaya as you put it.
@@epcarter6 he isn't losing though. He's trading 31 lives for a free hand from the ISB. He has successfully pulled off Aldani and gotten the empire to overplay its hand so badly that prison revolts are starting and succeeding. He is developing a network of spies and saboteurs to cause havoc to galvanize the population into armed resistance. This is not the rebellion yet, and when you're working with freedom fighters, criminals and separatists, all who would turn a blaster on each other as swiftly as they would on the empire, and none who can stand up to empire torture, trust would get them all killed.
When Cassian is going through his hidden credits in the hotel room he was staying in, he briefly opens Nemiks manifesto. Having the subtitles on, it mentions it’s Nemiks voice.
This episode was my favourite so far! The acting through so many scenes was incredible. Geneveive O’Reilly was out of this world in her scene with Val. And I was nearly in tears with the Ferrex scenes and when Andor called home. Damn. And don’t get me started with B2…
Two things: in the first meeting we saw between Kleya and Vel after Aldhani, Kleya said the money had already been moved, so that is not available to Vel; next, Syril cannot ID Luthen, he only heard his voice. When he told Dedra that, she realized he wasn't as good a witness as she needed to identify Axis, and that's why his value to her was over.

I understand your feelings a out the scene with the arrestor cruiser being a filler but none the less it was one of the most bad ass space battles regardless of how short it was. Not only the battle it's self but the massive shift of emotion from the imperial cruisers commander. A solid punch to the gut.
Yeah it's not really filler. It's showing how unprepared the empire is to facing backlash for the whole grasping with iron fist. He broke off that fist and kept on flying free.
That’s what I’m thinking too. Unless they are trying to get across how random and tragic death can be… which they did very well. It really is always the worst timing and it usually never makes sense.
@@L33Reacts I get the vibe she was smart enough to know she was being watched. A faked death gets her free to move to those tunnels they mentioned before. They have to pay that off.
I have only just watched this episode, and it was quite amazing, plus we all know Melshi will be back, probably in season two we see them both join the larger rebellion
For me just from the space combat with Luthen it was the little extra push this episode needed to be better than 10th episode... Love it my favourite episode so far with 10. They better give us a 2 hour episode this 12th honestly
I just want to say that I love hear your takes and insights into this series! You both do such a good job of putting how I feel about it into words and showing me how much it's worth taking the time to really dig in deep!
They better not of faked Marva’s death!!! B2emo was breaking my heart! 😞 This is a great episode, I think they put secrets in it that will come back around. Set up more than we know yet. Why didn’t cassian give Melshi a few credits???! Lol😂 We will obviously be back on ferixx in the last episode. Will someone riding a Rancor swoop in to save the battle on Ferixx? 😂
someone in my Discord group floated the idea Marva was murdered... deliberately done to "lure" everyone to Ferrix, for capture. Thats a horrible idea, if true (but not beyond those who do not value lives..)
Hey man, as a collector, this has been driving me crazy in your last few videos... Your Andor Figure behind you has been knocked over!!! Anyways, thanks man! Keep up the videos!
The ISB now has a recording of Luthen’s voice and will flag him as a potential lead to “Axis.” I happen to know of a cereal-eating burn out who said he would recognize the voice of Axis and is eager to help the ISB find him… interesting.
Good to see Cleveleys get a little more screen time when Cassian returns to Niamos. If anyone gets chance to visit the north west of England, its worth going to see. Most of the concrete structures seen in the show are existing parts of the sea defences and decorations. It's really like being on the set when you're there.
I don’t believe marva is dead. Whose eye lashes were we looking through??? The funeral is a set up for a rebel act. Why didn’t Vel offer the credits to Mon? And the light sabers on Luthens ship- dang. Even better was the imperial’s standing there not even able to wrap his head around what he just saw. Genius!
In Episode 11, Cassian learns that his mother Marva dying. This will hit Cassian very hard. Now Cassian has no one to worry about. He has no reason to play it safe anymore. He will head back to Ferrex for Marva's funeral. When the Ferrex citizens uprise, Cassian will sneak into the ISB HQ by the hidden tunnel.
Ferrix will be the focus of the last episode, I'm sure. Saving Bix would be a great goal for the Ferrix resistance. But they need diversion... like a fake funeral? Although Bix wanted to tell Cassian that Maarva is sick, so that can't be 100% fake. The funeral however can be a ploy, only Cinta reported it (not part of local group) and a random civilian told it to Cassian. It would make sense to cause some disturbance there (bombing or sg.), then while the Imps occupied hitting their HQ (ex Hotel) to free prisoners and bomb it. Cassian didn't told anything to his partner, he won't risk his life too, only his own, he will definately try to sneak to the funeral (fake or not, he just hear there is one). Cassian will do something for the rebels there risking his life. Not to save himself but someone else. This will convince Cinta, Vic and Luthen not to kill him. I needed a second viewing to realise Luthen wasn't speakng about artifact deal. He was telling coded that he is concerned about Cassian. His assistant told him there is nothing else they can do (They sent Cinta and Vel is on the way too) she has plans for the failure (evacuate shop? etc.) but told answered: that's not true. there is always something more to do. ie. He will personally go to Ferrix too. Currently all 3 sees Cassian as a threat. I also didn't realised exactly first scene with B2EMO. Now I think as they were talking about Maarva's death and what should happen with the droid he was having an emotional breakdown, shaking, and the fliud shown was a close up of the tea inside the cup, shaking on his head. The space fight scene sequence was also very clever: first he sent false Alderaan trade ship ID, but prepared for the boarding. When he knew the imperials aren't backup off he set his thrusters to full, forcing the imperials to strenghten their tractor beam to maximum (from 2 to 5), while charging his counter measures. Those charged needed things didn't needed much speed to be fired, since the now super strong tractor beam sucked them in with huge speed. (this is why he used his thrusters early, he needed a strong tractor beam for his counter measure). Also his ship had cool things, but 50% was the piloting. He aimed and shot down the Tie bomber and a Tie Fighter, then he maneuvered his ship so that the last two Tie Fighters will be in front of him, their optimal approach was toward him, not soo far apart, and finished them with his side laser thingy. Someone mentioned it can be a mining laser, but i have never seen limited lenghts powerful laser, except the light sabres, using kyber crystals. This piloting skill, all kind of spycraft knowledge i don't think comes from a simple wealthy person, nor even Jedi. I cannot rule out he learned all later, but not likely. He most likely was spy or counter intelligence officer for any planet/government/military at his early years. (maybe part of Internal Security Bureau which become ISB 14 years ago) I don't think his walking stick is a lightsabre. There are plenty of vibro swords, training swords, shocking blades that are effective melee weapons. And good walking sticks. About Mon Mothma: Don't forget at the Ghorman massacre she will make an open speech against the Emperor and flee. She won't just play her senator role and stay no matter what. Her own consciousness is super important choosing her path of resisting, rebelling. I have no doubt she would flee from Coruscant with her family instead of sacrificing her daughter AGAINST HER DAUGHTER'S WILL. But if and only if the daughter volunteers, respects the ancient Chandrilan custom, then and only then she will do it. Also to be correct the offer wasn't a marriage, only a chance for Davo's boy to meet the girl. And 400k is nothing for them (the way of manipulating the transaction is important), such chance of such meeting well worth it for Davo Sculdum. I would think if the kids like each other he would even offer way more support and donations for a marriage. I suspect they will not resolve many things in this season. For example I can see a short 15 seconds scene showing Mon Mothma, window, garden, in which her daughter and a young boy walks and talks. That's it. Maybe the girl even reaches out for the boy hand. So far we saw SAW only as: he is a lonely wolf, stubborn, chaotic, etc. (portrayed masterfully) however: It would be an AMAZING scene Imps ambushing Anto Kreegyr and his men, Lt. Dedra might show up there not at Ferrix, all is lost... until: X-wings jumps in, arrive from hyperspace, swoop down, fire the imps from the air, land, and save a couple of rebels and even Saw himself yells at Kreegyr while shooting from his opened X-wing's cockpit: "Come on, hurry up you OX!". Saw is chaotic, unpredictable, so might decide to spit into the Empire's face taking HUGE risk. Portraying his bravery. And as they leave swarm of Tie fighters come, the X-wings quickly pass through, shoot a few, loose some, and they jumps away. WHOOOOOOOOOOOOSSH And what if Dedra looses her rank because of this? They blame her. Falling from high into the dust (to Syril Karn level....) Syril Karn will have important role too. For example he hears Luthen talking, and realise: Axis, the big fish who told Andor (who was holding a gun at his head) "Kill him. If you won't I will". Will he confront him? Or just follow him at the last scene? Makes a photo? Or throws a tracking bug on his ship? I'm sure this character will have some importance. Maybe finds Lt Dedra and tells her Axis is here. Finally showing her goddess his worth. Wonder if Cassian sister shows up at all? Even for a short scene? Or maybe part of Kreegyr's group already a rebel? Love the show, left my score at imdb and rotten tomatoes again. Support this wonderful, masterwork serie!
What's "The Eye" without the episode(s) before it? That's why I can't judge these episodes on their own. Even though I loved Daughter of Ferrix, its part of a whole. It's not like the episodic formula of Mandalorian where the things they show don't necessarily need to be seen for the most part. All of the the scenes in Andor have intent, and don't feel wasted. How do they get off of the jail planet? A ship of course. But they run into the people that live and fish on the planet. And we see that they'd rather help the prisoners than the empire. This is intent. It adds to how the rebellion formed. These don't feel like episodes, they feel like part of the whole of Star Wars. It bleeds into every future film without the cheap copy and paste nostalgia work.
The fight scene will might cause additional trouble for Luthen I think it will make things more difficult for Sogera since it was near his base that it happened.
This show is amazing. We can only guess what sin Mon Mothma committed for the rebellion but I’m sure we all know what that was. The fact that we’re never told and that we don’t need to be told finally shows maturity with the show’s creators. The action is scarce but when it happens it is far more engaging. When action happens all the time it gets rather dull even if it’s done well. I applaud the show’s maturity in not falling into the trap of spectacle.
@starwarsexplained I just realized that the parts they were making in the prison looks like part of a tie fighters wing. It’s the middle piece in the circular portion of the wings. Then poles connect to it giving the wing its structure. If that makes sense. Look at a tie fighter from the side view
@@brandonking2679 He consistently tells the version of the truth that suits his purposes at any given moment. If forced to he will admit to past deceptions. What you get from Luthen is what he wants, and what he says to you to get what he wants. It's almost like the man himself doesn't exist.
I think it’s all going to go down at Maarvas funeral. Somethings going to kick everything off. I feel like it could be Ceril finding Andor and causing chaos that way or maybe Andors captured by the Empire during the funeral
Those two aliens on Narkina 5 reminded me of the Vogons in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Luthen: A lightsaber, or another one of his artifacts? Why would he carry it with him if it were just another artifact? Why the carefree attitude when he's with Lonnie / Andor / Saw, or any other dangerous customers? How can he have a ship that seems to emit a double bladed lightsaber in space, his ship in the middle, with red blades no less? I think the Imperials are finally onto Luthen; he just missed them listening on a conversation with Bix in a previous episode, and now they jammed his transmission with Kleya (who knows how long they were listening in, and what they captured, and where, from that conversation, that made the Commander so wary of him?), and now they know his ship, and will undoubtedly be looking for him. I've got a bad feeling about this. I've got a feeling that we're going to find out about Luthen really quick. He has different motivations than Saw, and sometimes a War against one foe makes strange bedfellows. While the Empire is looking at Krieger, something happens on Ferrix..
I think B2 is lying his treads off. Lots of charging could mean a lot of lying Luthen's countermeasures was a great story beat as well as world building. He had to trick them into cranking up the tractor beam to 5 instead of two that way the velocity of the countermeasures would hit harder as they are being pulled directly into the dish. Acting was cranked to 11 like usual. Genevieve O'Reilly ripping my heart out with Faye Marsay along side her. Stellan Skarsgård struggling with the ramifications of his choice while also tricking Forest Whitaker; bringing out that paranoia while also bringing him closer to the Alliance. Diego Luna looking crushed at the news of Maarva. Elizabeth Dulau has all the subtle acting that everyone else has down as well, its great seeing her worried now as well. This show is so damn good
Presumably we'll never get an official answer, but the Narkinians' reaction to Cassian and Melshi gives me hope that other prisoners received similar aid from the locals. Also, if Episode 12 isn't called "Death at a Funeral", I will riot.
I really hope they don't have mon magically get the money from Vel. Her selling her daughter to davo sculdans son makes Mon complex. If they cop out and have were get the money else where they're pissing away what they're building, plus mon hasn't sacrificed anything in the way that Vel and Luthen have so it makes sense that she would have to make a considerable sacrifice, not only for the rebellions survival, but to steel her resolve
I can see where you're coming from but if she got money from Vel or Luthen I don't think it'd be a cop out, rather it would be showing how the rebel alliance is finally coming together and supporting one another actively, so they don't have to sell their souls as much anymore. In the same way that eventually Cassian refuses to be an assassin for the rebels. Luthen and Vel have had to do awful things to keep growing the rebellion, if they can stop others from going through that same pain, I think they would.
I will never complain about a badass Star Wars dogfight, it was one of the coolest in terms of weapons use imo. Never seen space flechettes before. If you have please reply w/ sauce
Andor makes the appearance of aliens, space battles, and action moments special. Unlike most Disney Star Wars, the show isn't bashing us over the head with action scenes and fan service. When it appears, it feels earned.
The alien who talked in rhymes was in Rogue One as a member of Saw Gerrera’s partisans. Cyced Ock was his name The space battle might end up making the holonet news and could spook Kreegyr and save him from the trap without the ISB ever considering there was a leak.
11 was one of the best episodes ever. the way Luthen demonstrated his point to Saw with a thought experiment, his escape from the tractor beam, and the symbology of a deserted beach on the end
I notice Luthen is walking into an ISB trap because of his flawed methods. He should have been truthful with Lonni about the value of his intel. Vel knew how important Cassian Andor was, so she broke the rules to get the message to Luthen fast enough. Lonni was lied to about the importance of Cassian Andor and Axis ("She's wasting time"). So Lonni will NOT get the message to Luthen fast enough. We know about Dedra's fabulously expensive planet-wide commnet. So, the ISB has intercepted Cassian's call and they know Cassian is coming to Ferrix as soon as he can. Presumably Lonni will hear about it in the next briefing, but he will NOT go out of his way to relay this intel to Luthen. Oops.
It’s truly a credit to Genevieve’s acting in Mon Mothma’s scenes is incredible
The Descriptive Audio soundtrack only adds to the drama of the Mon Mothma scenes. Just like a novel, it describes her actions and emotions.
Its crazy that she went from a glorified extra that was cut out of ROTS to a cool cameo in Rogue One to such a brilliant performance
She’s really taken that role for herself tbh. No disrespect to the actor in the OT but she’s been perfect
Couldn’t agree more. The scene in this episode was absolutely amazing!
English, your second language, it is?
When B2EMO said "I want Marva," my heart absolutely broke. The power of voice acting is real and tangible.
i teared up twice this episode. then at the end when the music swelled in the credits, i lost it.

Same
Fun story I heard recently, so hope you don't mind me resurrecting a year-old comment: The puppeteer for B2EMO is Dave Chapman, and he did the initial temporary voice lines to be taped over later.
Good stuff. You nailed it. I love the dramatic Star Wars.
My question is why were these people not around for Bobba Fett and Obie wan. Could have took those shows to the next level.
Cassian accidentally activating Neemik's manifesto made me sad and miss the lad who understood the reasons for fighting.
I'd have missed him more if I'd been given any actual connection with him.
@@TJDious I clicked with him thanks to his endearing awkwardness. He tried his best to make the galaxy a better place, through action and words and thoughts left behind.

Seeing B2EMO shaking was awful. Our poor boy... 😢

Cassian is orphaned presumably for the second time in his life. Interesting fact is that the actor, Diego Luna, is actually an orphan as his mother died in a car accident in 1982😢
Showing Maarvas death through close shots of B2EMO was as masterful as it was heartbreaking.
Poor little guy:(
I'm so glad Brazzo stayed with him for a little bit
Excellent point!
This has to have been one of my favorite flight combat scenes in Star Wars.
Is he a Jedi??? IS HE A JEDI????? I have to know!!!
Yes! This has to have been intentional. His momma would be proud too...
😭
yes!!! amazing, it was not a weak episode, it was on point.
I felt so bad for Bix this episode man. She looked so broken and just defeated. You can just tell the screams of dying children are still ringing through her head.
i honestly cant see how she comes back from this.
She's not dead. They smuggled her out.
@@HighDesertReporter760 dead or not, it’s the response to it that was most impactful. I have no connection to the fictional character, it reminded me of what I just went through with my mom.

BRASSO IS THE MAN
The relationship of people to droids in Star Wars is similar to the way people interact with animals in real life, some are used for work, other companionship, and the way people treat the animals in their life is more of a reflection of who the person is than anything else.
Not sure I understand why he would have any bad karma.
@@Daniel-Strain He's saying that Luthen intentionally provoked the empire into tightening their grip on the galaxy, presumably killing, torturing, detaining, trillions more life forms, and now he's seeing the consequences of his own actions first hand.

Everyone thinks Luthen was carrying a lightsaber, but my first thought was that it was his walking stick from the first couple episodes.

It’s a lightsabre hidden inside something very much symbolising he’s a Jedi in hiding.
I took it as a hidden baton, something that looks innocuous but can be turned into a weapon, which itself sums up Luthen pretty well too

Andor already had the best Star Wars dialogue and intrigue - now it has the best space combat. So good!

Obviously I was wrong and it was just a reuse of the same alien costume with some new clothes or MAYBE (major conspiracy time) he is the same Keredian that is a member of the Partisans and will tell Saw about Andor and his location (most likely not though, just some fun speculation.)
well be back to this in a week! would be a mind-blown, double if you predicted it!

So cool if you’re right:)
This could be his rebel origin story though… you never know!
I think the space battle is meant to do two things:
1. It's meant to show that Luthen's ship is no ordinary ship, which will be important in episode 12 somehow, or in season 2
I guess Luthen has to die to explain his absence in Rogue One and the original trilogy. He said he expects as much in his speech last episode.
@@TheStarBlack Yeah, it's just that I expected that to be at the end of season 2. But can happen in S01E12 just as well.
@@TheStarBlack hol up. I thought Luther is in Rogue One, or I mistook someone else as him.

I think the Luthen's ship scene was to imply he's way more badass than we think. some say he's a Jedi survivor, I dont know, but that ship's equipment is way better than anything we've seen so far
I don't think he's a jedi. This series isn't about jedi I'm honestly so glad about that!

Luthen’s Fondor Haulcraft is the most powerful non-military craft in all of Star Wars cannon (and a formidable craft when pitted against most Star Wars military craft of similar size as well).
I think he IS a Jedi from Alderran. When he’s searched for weapons before meeting Saw, they pull out his lightsaber. It’s got a wooden handle!
I wanted to hug B2-EMO so badly
Luthen's ship is like a James Bond car: full of surprise gadgets 😊
Cassian being “born” a Rebel is a great connecting the threads.
This finale will be crazy.
Holy crap this show has been incredible.
My heart was literally pouring out tears when it showed Cassians reaction to his adopted mothers death. The shock on his face was enough to convince me of Diego Luna being a top notch actor when portraying Cassian in grief and confusion over what happened to his mother while he’s been in prison.
Best space battle since Solo.
Competent Imps bested by wild card rebel tactics.
Luthen’s escape was so fuckin cool 🤩
But if he comes in close proximity to Luthen and hears him speak, that could definitely complicate things.

The shock on the guy's face after it happens speaks loudly; 'how much are we up against here?' 'how big is this thing?'. It's tying in to a recurrent theme across the show - the Empire never actually expects to be beaten.
Great points!
The episode for me was excellent as always. I was really sad for all the Mon Mothma's part.
This episode has me feeling a kaleidoscope of emotions: wow.
The last shot of the sun shining through the clouds was heartbreaking, and I think that attests to the thought put into this show.
Music accompanying was so great too
Damn. I'm glad I didn't watch the trailer. The cruiser scene was awesome
Yeah the trailer gave away too much BUT on the other hand the anticipation of knowing added a different kind of excitement.
Same here. It was incredible
@@forrestpenrod2294 I forgot about the lasers till last week when it started being mentioned again. That's what I don't like about trailers. Content creators throw it in your face when you're not trying to remember that right now.
Did Andor's mom really die? Might just be the excuse to have a funeral to attack the Imps.
That’s what I’m thinking too. Unless they are trying to get across how random and tragic death can be… which they did very well. It really is always the worst timing and it usually never makes sense.
Same thought
@@L33Reacts I get the vibe she was smart enough to know she was being watched. A faked death gets her free to move to those tunnels they mentioned before. They have to pay that off.
@@snowboredsnj yeah they have a lot of set up for stuff… I wonder how this last episode is gonna go 😂 gonna be crazy
@TrueFact Shame it didn't broadcast on November 5th.
I have only just watched this episode, and it was quite amazing, plus we all know Melshi will be back, probably in season two we see them both join the larger rebellion
"People dying from old age is just not normal for Star Wars"
A 900 year old Yoda would like a word.
He bacame one with the force. So technically...
Did anyone notice that the sleeping alien in Cassian’s former room at the resort is the same species as Jyn’s cell mate in R1?
Yes sir
Great episode! I really love the soundtrack at the end of the episode. Really putting you in the feels.
was really hopeful the Narkinian Alien was about to read Andor some Vogon Poetry
B2EMO's reaction to Marva's death remained me so much of a little kid who just lost their parent...
My heart broke for that droid.
8:43 Luthen’s ship is basically the Star Wars version of the Batmobile.
I was very surprised by the death of Maarva, too. I was expecting her to do some rebellion before she goes.
They better not of faked Marva’s death!!! B2emo was breaking my heart! 😞
This is a great episode, I think they put secrets in it that will come back around.
Set up more than we know yet.
Why didn’t cassian give Melshi a few credits???! Lol😂
We will obviously be back on ferixx in the last episode.
Will someone riding a Rancor swoop in to save the battle on Ferixx? 😂
I was also wondering why Cassian didn't give Melshi any money 😄
someone in my Discord group floated the idea Marva was murdered...
deliberately done to "lure" everyone to Ferrix, for capture. Thats a horrible idea, if true (but not beyond those who do not value lives..)

Oh that would be dramatic! Never thought of that. Can’t wait for ep 12

:) happy thanksgiving! Thank you.
Hey man, as a collector, this has been driving me crazy in your last few videos... Your Andor Figure behind you has been knocked over!!!
Anyways, thanks man! Keep up the videos!
The ISB now has a recording of Luthen’s voice and will flag him as a potential lead to “Axis.” I happen to know of a cereal-eating burn out who said he would recognize the voice of Axis and is eager to help the ISB find him… interesting.
this episode honestly had the biggest emotional reaction to me especially the ending and the paralell to rogue ones ending
Good to see Cleveleys get a little more screen time when Cassian returns to Niamos. If anyone gets chance to visit the north west of England, its worth going to see. Most of the concrete structures seen in the show are existing parts of the sea defences and decorations. It's really like being on the set when you're there.
Great episode and your analysis is spot on! I can’t wait to see how it all pans out!
Luthen’s laser maneuver was pretty awesome.
Genius!
What a twist that would be. Seems a bit cheap, though.
Hahaha yeah the Imperial captain wasn’t even upset just dumbfounded 😂
Agreed. I still think she’s gonna blow up the tunnel under the hotel, along with herself. Her death is just a ruse to get the eyes off of her.
lol I think that Imp knows he's going to be sent off to the firing squad for this f up. He was probably trying to calculate his odds of running 😉
@@alexgonzales248 I don't think they're lightsabers just laser beams of some kind. Like those tanks in the clone wars.
Masterpiece of an episode. Luthens ship is fire.
Have you noticed on the shop scene, in the 4:44 on this video, there is an aztec sun stone alike artifact in the background? That was beautiful
It would make sense to cause some disturbance there (bombing or sg.), then while the Imps
occupied hitting their HQ (ex Hotel) to free prisoners and bomb it.
His assistant told him
there is nothing else they can do (They sent Cinta and Vel is on the way too) she has plans for the failure (evacuate shop? etc.) but
told answered: that's not true. there is always something more to do. ie. He will personally go to Ferrix too. Currently all 3 sees Cassian as a threat.
I also didn't realised exactly first scene with B2EMO. Now I think as they were talking about Maarva's death and what should happen with the droid he was having an emotional
breakdown, shaking, and the fliud shown was a close up of the tea inside the cup, shaking on his head.
The space fight scene sequence was also very clever: first he sent false Alderaan trade ship ID, but prepared for the boarding.
When he knew the imperials aren't backup off he set his thrusters to full, forcing the imperials to strenghten their tractor beam to maximum (from 2 to 5), while
charging his counter measures. Those charged needed things didn't needed much speed to be fired, since the now super strong tractor beam sucked them in with huge speed.
(this is why he used his thrusters early, he needed a strong tractor beam for his counter measure).
Also his ship had cool things, but 50% was the piloting. He aimed and shot down the Tie bomber and a Tie Fighter, then he maneuvered his ship so that the last two Tie Fighters
will be in front of him, their optimal approach was toward him, not soo far apart, and finished them with his side laser thingy. Someone mentioned it can be a mining laser,
but i have never seen limited lenghts powerful laser, except the light sabres, using kyber crystals.
This piloting skill, all kind of spycraft knowledge i don't think comes from a simple wealthy person, nor even Jedi. I cannot rule out he learned all later, but not likely.
He most likely was spy or counter intelligence officer for any planet/government/military at his early years. (maybe part of Internal Security Bureau which become ISB 14 years ago)
I don't think his walking stick is a lightsabre. There are plenty of vibro swords, training swords, shocking blades that are effective melee weapons. And good walking sticks.
About Mon Mothma: Don't forget at the Ghorman massacre she will make an open speech against the Emperor and flee. She won't just
play her senator role and stay no matter what. Her own consciousness is super important choosing her path of resisting, rebelling.
I have no doubt she would flee from Coruscant with her family instead of sacrificing her daughter AGAINST HER DAUGHTER'S WILL. But if and only if the daughter volunteers,
respects the ancient Chandrilan custom, then and only then she will do it.
(portrayed masterfully) however:
It would be an AMAZING scene Imps ambushing Anto Kreegyr and his men, Lt. Dedra might show up there not at Ferrix, all is lost... until: X-wings jumps in, arrive from hyperspace,
swoop down, fire the imps from the air, land, and save a couple of rebels and even Saw himself yells at Kreegyr while shooting from his opened X-wing's cockpit:
"Come on, hurry up you OX!". Saw is chaotic, unpredictable, so might decide to spit into the Empire's face taking HUGE risk. Portraying his bravery.
And as they leave swarm of Tie fighters come, the X-wings quickly pass through, shoot a few, loose some, and they jumps away. WHOOOOOOOOOOOOSSH
And what if Dedra looses her rank because of this? They blame her. Falling from high into the dust (to Syril Karn level....)
Syril Karn will have important role too.
Rael Aveross is Luthen Rael and his companion is Queen Fanri of Pijals daughter.
What if Kino took out the rest of the guards and stole a ship. He could have been searching for Cassian while he was hiding.
Great review, as usual! Hard to express how much I'm loving this show.
@starwarsexplained I just realized that the parts they were making in the prison looks like part of a tie fighters wing. It’s the middle piece in the circular portion of the wings. Then poles connect to it giving the wing its structure. If that makes sense. Look at a tie fighter from the side view
I like how both Cassian & Luthen have to reveal the truth to their allies (Rebels & Saw Gerrera) in order to build trust.
Watching Luthen gaslight, and manipulate Saw was the moment i truly realized how untrustworthy he really is.
I thought the opposite in this episode. He seemed like he told pretty much the truth the whole time.
The final episode for this season is literally going to 🔥
I didn't see the trailer so I was quite surprised by the action scene in this episode
Psst: Marva might not actually be dead. We never saw the corpse.
Lots of charging could mean a lot of lying
Luthen's countermeasures was a great story beat as well as world building.
This show is so damn good
Fantastic review, as always.
Presumably we'll never get an official answer, but the Narkinians' reaction to Cassian and Melshi gives me hope that other prisoners received similar aid from the locals.
Also, if Episode 12 isn't called "Death at a Funeral", I will riot.
Got tired of SWTs complaining on the show and someone in the comments recommended Star Wars explained and I’m so glad to discover this channel!
i saw other coments that when B lies he has to recharge alot so maybe they faked her death . but it was still sad😢 .
Excellent point abt Mon having to make a huge sacrifice!
@@goten339 @Honored Madman Both of these predictions seems so great eitherway.
Yep, Mon's gotta pay to play as well.
Cyced Ock was his name
The space battle might end up making the holonet news and could spook Kreegyr and save him from the trap without the ISB ever considering there was a leak.
Oops.
Luthen is letting Kreeger walk into an ISB trap, while he is also about to walk into an ISB trap on the same day.
Luthen is just condemned to use the tools of the enemy to defeat them...
