THIS IS PERFECT - Andor Season Finale Review - Rix Road

- Okay maybe not perfect, but damn near close! The season finale of Andor was incredible. The way this series has built up and released tension over episodes, arcs, and now the entire season has been masterful. Rix Road was just a nonstop stream of fantastic scenes, one after another. Nemik's manifesto, Maarva's speech, and the chaos it caused...Andor stuck the landing with ease, and I can't wait for season two!

Brasso smashing an Imperial Army guy with the Marva-brick was a thing of beauty.
You know that is what she would have wanted. And damn did he flatten that dude lol like 4 army guys jump him and he wastes them all easily.

Luthen's face during Marva's speech made me think he was rethinking some things - specifically that if THIS rebel spirit is was raised Cassian, then maybe he's got it in him too.
I thought the same thing, and the way Cassian gave himself up really made him really think of what kind of person he was. "I have nothing to lose now, I'm done running."
reminds me of Churchill... He sees the results of his actions....
@@brandonmadigan7523 Great analogy
I bet luthen had a booner during Marva's speech
@@farwoodfarm9296 I think it was more like calculated gamble from Andor. That he won't kill him unarmed especially after what he saw in the city. Otherwise Andor would have to constatly look over his shoulder. Also he wanted to fight. I think the ""I have nothing to lose now, I'm done running." mentality applied more when he went to infiltrate the hotel knowing well how risky it was.
For me the best scene of the episode was Cassian and Brasso meeting in the tunnel. Andor is filled with regret for not being there for Maarva. He's upset that the last conversation he had with his mother was an argument. It was so real. So human. It hit me so hard, starting with that long, comforting hug. Both of these men are grieving and it's wonderful that the show allows them to do that.
Mine was by far the stormtroopers firing on the crowd. It was a great release of tension after 40 minutes of build up, and it was great to see just how menacing the empire can be with their brute force
It was very touching
Your right it felt just right for the situation just long enough and cathartic.
Bro, I felt that hug on the tunnel. 😭
The same happened to me in real life so yeah I completely agree with you
I thought she was gone, but in death Marva became more powerful than we could possibly imagine.😢
No one's ever really gone
One With The Brick, One With The Force.
Who is to say this wasn't a kind of force ghost? Of course it was a hologram. But maybe that is all the force could manage on its own and it had to make providence while she was living in the form of the recording. A piece of her lived on in the people, her family, freinds, B2. Is that not an echo of life in the world of the living? I thought it was a cool parallel even if none of that was intentional.
@@citizen_wayne The force has no place in Andor.
@@ThePigeon5734 maybe not the the force in the way it’s normally used, but the force as an all encompassing representation of life itself will always have a place in Star Wars, it is Star Wars
This is 100% the best Star Wars story in the Disney Era. This show was perfect, something I and I'm sure many fans have wanted for so long.
Better than anything from the prequel era.
I’m curious as to what it was specifically that you and other fans wanted? Not picking a fight but why is this better than all the other great SW content we’ve gotten over the last seven year?
I loved it so much. Can't wait for S2
I think this was some of the best Star Wars we have ever gotten. No other SW show or movie went this deep into political and emotionally resonant territory. I feel like this is exactly what Lucas wanted to see more of - for his political analogies to be explored thoroughly and they did.
@@thegrahamdalorian185 i mean there's personally stuff i liked all over the disney era but it was more scattershot. This had excellent pacing, good connected stories built over themed, structured episodes. It respected the use of CGI to elevate scenes or do things that were otherwise impossible while relying on practical sets and real world shooting locations. It had a story that led to actual thought and speculation and discussion between episodes, which justified the weekly release schedule... it was really just overall, very well done and well executed. I think overall what i can say is that if this show actually had no connection to anything else in Star Wars? no easter eggs or little winks or nods? it stands entirely alone on its own as just a solid, incredibly well made piece of television that tells it is STAR WARS without having to show you a death star or a lightsaber
I'm officially addicted to the Andor series. Real people you can identify with taking big risks to fight tyranny. I can't identify with people who fight with laser swords and have tekekinetic abilities and can jump 50 feet. But I can identify with some scrappers and welders who eek out a living and do what they can with what they have. This isn't just the best Star Wars. It's the best TV series I've seen in a long time.
Addicted too and agree word for word with what you say
I'm not even sure his name but that one worker who was shot while defending one of the sisters of Ferrix. The way he jumped on the storm trooper and struggled. That actor had a small role and made every moment he had matter.
My folks were teenagers during the revolutions in Nicaragua. We've often talked about those times, but this show got a few good stories out of them I'd never heard before. I think that speaks to the sincerity parts of this show carried. Genuinely surprised Disney made something like this, it was a great show.
Exactly! No Jedi, no superpowers, just normal people in a galaxy fighting for or against a cause. It's so human and interesting.
Luke Skywalker is one of the most relatable characters in cinema history due to being the classic hero in the hero's journey, the fact that you can't relate to him because he has telekinesis is your problem.
10:52 The people of Ferrix took "If they hurt B2, we riot" literally, and I love them for it.

Let's see about Dedra.....She failed to find out the identity of Axis, she failed to capture Cassian, she had to be rescued by someone who is considered to be an incompetent failure. This will not sit well with her ISB superiors. Makes you wonder what will be her fate.
And the ISB killed Kreeger’s squad and didn’t consider Dedra’s wishes to interrogate/torture. It will be great to see her next moves ✌️
I guess that's why Luthen didn't even bother about her tearing Ferrix apart to find him and Andor because that's the kind of reaction he wanted. He wanted the Empire to over-react to give ppl a motivation in fighting the Empire so Dendra fell directly into Luthen's trap the moment she teared Ferrix down for investigation.
She will likely be out the outside again. While the ISB killed Kreeger (and took the taste of Aldhani out of the Emeperor's mouth), the events on Ferrix just created another PR disaster with a funeral turned riot. She got nothing, almost got killed, and lost a prisoner (Bix). The only saving grace for her is that she knows Andor was definitely there. Her plan was solid but events on the ground prevented successful execution of it.
@@darwoodtechnology she fails for the same reason Thrawn does, other Imperials mess up the plan.
Seeing her get hit in the head with a rock and beat in the street until she's basically pissing herself was my favorite part. She can be a threat when she's in an office, treating people like abstract objects or chess pieces, but once she finally gets out in the real world, all her toughness melts away.
I am absolutely disgusted at a lot of the toxic star wars fans. If there are no magical space wizards with laser swords it’s trash. This is one of the best shows I’ve seen in a very long time.
Jedi are my favorite part of Star Wars, but this show is amazing. 🤷♂️

100% agree.
They were smart to bet on Rogue who was better than the whole 3td trilogy.
It just pains me that for every Andor they make there is an Obi Wan.
Yup yup yup. I saw a tweet a couple weeks back talking about how Andor focuses on a lot of the real world issues that we face today. It mentioned the whole prison arc, and the relation it has when it comes to the prison system and death sentence in America. It didnt dawn on me just how much realistic depiction this show has
A beautiful finale, a thrilling season! What a masterpiece!
Now we need a whole line of Lego sets for this show, starting with Luthen's ship :)
*Brasso spartan kicks that guy after shoving B2*
Me: wow that must be the coolest kick in all of Star Wars.
Anvil guy 2 minutes later: hold my beer.
I think this was my takeaway from the post-credit scene: Andor and that crew was slaving away at that one little part replicated countless numbers of times on a gigantic machine. How many other countless numbers of parts are there too? How many other prison colonies and prisoners are out there doing that exact same thing? The scale of it all is crazy to think about.
Nice insight, it reinforces the idea of every brick representing one act of authoritarianism, resulting in one gargantuan monument for oppression that the Death Star is meant to represent, other than simple being a simple super weapon cliché.
This show is a masterpiece!!! The tension was real as the somber funeral went on. When chaos errupted with the riots I felt like I was there lol
That shot of Luthen looking over city....hearing screams, smoke, and blaster fire. That was haunting.
Surprisely liked how they kinda humanised the Empire a bit. Them going toe to toe with the people of Ferrix was brutal. Litterally had a heart attack when I thought they were going to tear Dedra apart.
A more complex empire, still villains but ones you can occasionaly empathize with or understand, brings so much fresh air to SW!
@@scelonferdi 'Complex' thats the word. I dont mind past portrayals of the Empire. Like when Syril saves Dedra, she was rattled to the bone. Dont recall in other SW media seeing officers in the middle of battle like that.
I'd also add, I liked how they showed how terrified Dendra was. They rarely show the empire being scared.
Hope you went to the hospital and survived that literal heart attack you had.
Power does not panic....oh but it did!
I wanted the rebels to kill off Dedra only so Cassian has an easier time. But at the same time she's a great 'villain' and she'll be great in season 2

Despite all the great characters, casting, on-location filming, amazing sets, it was the incredible writing that left me utterly amazed. It was so clever, so intricate, so well thought out - every scene had meaning, nothing was wasted.
It’s like logical, reasonable writers with vision and direction were finally allowed to make some media. Film after film and show after show we see come out, entertaining - yes - but about as solid as a slice of Swiss cheese. Not so with this one.
Can say this exact thing about all the great movies and shows. Glad to see more people are realizing that it should always be script & character first.
Hell, "character first" was Favreau's mantra when filming Iron Man 1.
It didn't even occur to me that Mon was making the whole "you're gambling again" argument with her husband to pass false leads to ISB.
She mentioned earlier in the season that she knew her driver was spying on her…otherwise I wouldn’t have been so sure either.
It was so out of nowhere I was afraid I had missed something. But this gives her lots of great cover. It throws her husband under the bus for any missing funds and provides cover for her increased involvement with a shady banker. ISB is also likely to only use this info to validate one or two things and then stick it in the blackmail folder for later.
Come on, it was pretty obvious
@@dogbert32 thanks for wording this. I missed out on this part!
This blew me away: so clever. And Blevin, who lost Ferrix to Dedra, now has something to do. Kinda hilarious...
Why is no one else talking about Dedra getting hit in the head with a rock? It was my favorite moment. You can tell that she's never been in a fight before. As soon as the fight starts, it looks like she's about to wet herself. She always viewed other people like chess pieces or statistics and when she finally gets out of the office, some no-name randoms beat her ass in the street.
Been interesting if they added in a scene of her last Death Trooper doing a last stand to protect her then going down. Then for her to actually pop 1 or 2 rioters herself in defense...as Ive doubt she has ever killed anyone. Really hammer home the PTSD of the melee and riot.
There is no longer any doubt that Andor has become the best that Star Wars has _ever_ been, and this episode is a prime reason as to why.
For me it's second to rogue one.
What I ultimately came away with is that it is better than the OT, so I agree with you. Even as a boy I thought the OT was a little silly. I always preferred Star Trek as it was more cerebral, but the Star Wars Universe as a backdrop is far more interesting and a gold mine for exciting characters and stories. Until now, we've never seen that realized on the screen. This is right up there with Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire trilogy as the best Star Wars content out there IMO.
@@michaelkohl2250 rogue one, just didn't have any characters to care about. Sure the third act was big and shiny. But the first 2 thirds of the movie are a fetch quest for pointless cannon fodder.

I fully believe that we saw Mon Mothma setting her husband up to take the fall for the missing credits, getting their daughter involved in his dealings with a crime boss, and basically setting herself up as an innocent bystander and victim. If we see Mon actually go that route, it will raise my estimations of her greatly.
She has been a poltican her whole life, so being strategic is in her blood.
Seems like her husband has made a critical error
I was absolutely cheering when Cassian asked Luthen to let him join the rebellion.
Next season is going to be brutally delicious with what the two of them will pull off I think. Let's hope we don't have to wait too long.
@@Kenobi_Cowboy We'll have to wait 2 years...
@@Kenobi_Cowboy If they decide to hurry to get it done it would still be spring of 2024 before we get to see it, but it will more than likely be fall of 2024.
I think this episode changed Luthen. The Empire did exactly what he wanted them to do, except he witnessed it. He actually looked afraid on his way back to his ship. I also think Marva's speech got to him. During this season it was all about keeping secrets and staying separated, so that he couldn't lose too much. I think he's starting to realize that, to beat the Empire, it's time for the rebellion to come together. I'd be willing to bet anything he has a meeting with Mon Mothma to tell her so. I'm also glad I was right about what they were building in the prison.
Yes! There needs to be a shift from shadowy individuals to banding together in large numbers
It changed the whole rebellion, this was the spark that trully lite the fire.
Luthan to me has felt like the rebels counterpart of the Emperor. He lives a double life as a charismatic upper class elite, then you see his true form, sitting in the shadows in a black hood, playing a game of chess as the king, willing to make any sacrifice for his cause. It feels like the only thing that separates the two is in fact their causes
Oh...that interpretation is _so_ damn cool. Now I _need_ Luthen to survive season 2...and meet with good old Sheev.
This is brilliant and now that you’ve said it I’m 100% sure this parallel was intended.
Yep and he will end up being a Jedi, Obi Wans long list brother
Might still a bit too fanservice here, but they could make Palpatine and Luthen cross paths maybe in some sort of public gala, and Palpatine absolutely missing the greatest threat to his Empire in the room simply due to Luthen NOT being a Force user lol. Would be… ironic.
Luthen himself pretty much said he has become his enemy in order to defeat his enemy, so I think this interpretation is 💯 valid.
As a Combat Veteran I have to admit I got choked up listening to Maarva’s final speech/ battle cry. Yea it’s fiction but you can tell the writers knew how to write her as a fighter and Fiona Shaw knocked it out the park. She had me amped ready to fight too. 😂
Glad it got you ready, because it's literally you against whom she's telling people to fight 😉

I thought it was notiable how they kinda of lingered on Nemik's journal when he says "try". This is of course the opposite of what Yoda guides young Luke to do. Perhaps a message that it is important for normal people to indeed try, for without an all powerful force at our backs, that is all we can do.
Well spotted and well said.
Love this comment!
To be fair, Yoda did mean it in an entirely different context. I love that Andor emphasised trying but it was in a completely different situation. People have been taking that line out of context for years, but Andor shows us a different path. I think Yoda would like that since he wouldn't want us to deal in absolutes (because Sith have no place in Andor...).
Perfect and I mean perfect. This gives me soo much hope for the future of Star Wars. This with Mando and Ahsoka coming out. What a time to be alive!
The thing I loved about the slow burn tension and drama of the various characters taking their positions around the town...was that each one of them had a fully fleshed out backstory and clear motivation for why they were there. You could just see a silent shot of them for a few frames and fully understand what they were thinking, doing and what they hoped to get out of the situation. A beautifully written, shot and directed show.

Aunt Petunia's redemption arc was incredible.

It’s been a pleasure listening to your weekly breakdowns, Alex! One thing about the manifesto: I think Cassian’s been listening to it before the finale as well. I like to believe that his line “Power doesn’t panic” came from said manifesto, and only now is he fully digesting Nemik’s words.

@@donnie_duckling Sadly I highly doubt Disney is ever going to release a full version of what is essentially a revolutionary text encouraging you to overthrow tyrannical organisations that hold too much power. Call me crazy but I think even Disney would see the irony in that.
Love it! A few mirrors I noticed: Dedra wearing red to blend in mirrors kleya wearing red in episode 7, Both hiding in enemy territory. Also the death star mirrors visual of tittle animation. And finally Bix is a deliberate parallel to the imperial pilot in rouge one. Both traumatized by interrogation
The title card reminded me of the Death Star eclipsing Jedha's sun, so it was nice to see that come back, if perhaps unintentionally.
This show was just absolutely brilliant. Mon suspecting her driver was a spy, and thus getting in a staged argument where she purposely exposes her husbands gambling issue as a cover up to her money problem was genius. Now this way she can merry her daughter off to a wealthy gangsters son and not make it seem suspicious. For all they know they lost the money to gambling, and need to get that money back somehow. Also the tiny details like Mon undoing her top piece representing a state of vulnerability, is something that she wants her driver to believe is real and authentic. She wants him to think he caught her in a moment of weakness, when in reality he’s playing right into her hand. Things like this are scattered across the show in every episode. It’s just brilliant writing.
If nothing else, the writers ABSOLUTELY deserve an Emmy for best writing. I have never seen anything with as close to as fantastic screenplay as this show
Leida’s happiness involves sadly displeasing her mother by whatever means possible even to the point of embracing the traditions that she despises as well as marrying a gangster’s son that may become an abusive relationship down the road.
All that was missing was Mothma looking at Leida with the type of look that whispers, “You fool.”
Puberty as it is.
She is fighting a second rebellion at home and she can’t afford to lose either one.
Mon’s “family” are a bit of a lost cause. She can throw them under the bus or they can throw themselves under there as they seem to be want to do. That’s how it goes when the very foundation is fraudulent to begin with. The foundation of that family is itself against the spirit of the Rebellion. Mon is way better without anyone who’s currently around her save for maybe Kolma.
I'm sad because I don't think we're going to get anything like this again once it's over. I personally think this is star wars at its best.

If all TV shows were as well-crafted as Andor is, no one would ever leave their homes. The economy would grind to a halt. Definitely the best episode (so far) of one of the top 5 shows to ever grace the small screen. Definitely your best Andor episode yet, too. Thanks for the journey. Looking forward to Season 2.
Perrin’s gambling issues are the “right amount of wrong” to quote a commercial from the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas. I love the tension on Ferrix of the locals staging the funeral early. Also the bricks in the wall were surprisingly touching, the dead aren’t in a graveyard somewhere, they are still a part of the community. Meero rattled in the uprising and Syril calm was a fun reversal of their dynamic.
The more I think about it, the more I appreciate this show, I had no expectations for this show and now I enjoy it quite a lot. Looking forward for season 2
Me too
I am going to be the one to say because I think it needs to be said...
Andor Season 1 is not only the best single season of Star Wars television ever but it's also the truest to the original idea of what Star Wars was created out of from George Lucas with that original trilogy.
I can guarantee that George loves this show from the writing, to the dialogue, the characters it has and the idea around how this show embraces the idea around putting real life into a science fiction and fantasy setting for a great narrative.
This show to me might not literally be perfect but it's the closest thing to a perfect season of television we've ever had with Star Wars and for this year in television for 2022.
That finale was SO GOOD!! My only critique with it is that we didn't get more Death Trooper action...😅
Season 2 can't come soon enough!!🙏
This is not just one of the best first seasons of Star Wars, but all of television.
It astounds me that the writing in a Star Wars show hit this level of brilliance. I love my Star Wars, but this is franchise and genre transcendence. Masterpiece.
Say it with me.
Start Wars is now part of the Andor universe
Absolutely
Maarva’s funeral speech was incredible, the way it moved everyone who heard it, even Luthen, was fantastic, gonna be a hard two years to wait for season 2
The season finale left me infuriated (cause I wanna know what happens next) and excited (Cause I wanna know what happens next, damnit!). It was very tense. Every bit of high had a low, and vice versa. A roller coaster ride, but in such an intimate, human way. Even though we all expected it at some point, the scene at the end with Cassian and Luthen still put a smile on my face like "This is where the fun begins".
Ferrix in this episode really reminded me of spy movies set in cold war Berlin, with Agents from each side following their business. Superb writing!
The riot was reminiscent between the US police & protesters back in the summer of 2020.
I liked the spy craft that Luthen and Kleya used - chalk markings, cutting a handrail to signal a meeting etc. It's like a le Carre novel
This entire season is based on templates of wwII spies movies !
Thank you for your analysis & correlation with what’s tragically happening right now. Your wording was powerful & necessary. This show is so timely against this struggle we are now facing against the fear mongering, hate, persecution of marginalized groups & fascism. Every aspect of this show shrieks & shouts authenticity & a rawness that has been missing from Star Wars for too long. From Andor’s trauma of his group failing to act/losing their leader shot from the back, to desperation in every actor, the weathering on both landscapes & the faces of people living at this time, the quietude & wind/waves when Andor is processing Maarva’s death to the dialogue that contain layer upon layer. It is going to be a long wait till next season, no doubt.
I also feel like Nemik's "Try" is an antithesis to Yoda's "Do, or do not. There is no try". Its kind of like the writers are saying this is not that kind of Star Wars story. Referencing that this is not a black and white, good vs bad kind of story, but the lines are blurred, which this series explores a lot. It feels like a nod of the writers, also saying they don't need the flashy Jedi and sith to create a good story.
Once again the entire Andor team outdid themselves. I was kind of worried that the finale would not live up to my expectations, but damn, it did.
Also, nice breakdown. Im kind of new to the channel, but your Andor breakdowns drew me in completely. Fantastic work.
Alex, this is an outstanding review. Your writing and delivery fits right along with the high bar set by the show itself. Great work.
The end scene of the episode is one of the best in the show (the show has a lot of good scenes though). He’s lost everything he’s cared about, and with one line you know exactly where his mind is: he’s at the point where he has nothing to lose. The dynamic nature of his character was so believable in this show.
One little thing I love about this finale is how they decided to give Luthen that black cloak. He really looked like a Sith! Not a rebel leader or hero. And it connects perfectly with his speech a couple episodes ago. He has gone into and become that darkness his enemy uses so he can use those same tools to defeat them. But like many have pointed out that doesn’t make him a fool simply because he realizes that and knows that he shouldn’t survive to be the leader of the rebellion once it officially organizes. He wasn’t lying when he said he needs heroes. He needs someone like Cassian and more than ANYTHING he NEEDS Mon Mothma because she knows what it takes to make those tough decisions that taint the good in your spirit in order to win against a foe like the empire but unlike him she can resist letting it overtake the good in her and can still be that beacon of light that can steer the galaxy towards a better future instead of just a new empire. That’s what typically happens with revolutionaries who very passionately and honestly start fighting for their people only to become corrupted by power when they sieze the throne of government and become the oppressors they started out fighting.
Luthen realizes that and wants people like Cassian that can achieve great things to inspire people and do it for the same future he believes in and he needs leaders like Mon Mothma for their people to look up to as an unextinguishable light that can genuinely present a better future free from oppression. But the rebellion also needs Luthen to get it to that point in order for Mon Mothma to take over. It needs someone whose basically borderline a villain who can do literally whatever it takes to give the real heroes history will remember the stepping stone they need to finish the race.
He doesn’t think he’ll live to see that day nor wants to. He knows he deserves to die for the things he’s done to defeat the empire. But the thing that scares him the most isn’t that he’ll be killed one day as some sort of Karma for his actions. But that it will be pointless or even worse that it will spark a rebellion but for all the wrong reasons!
That’s why one of the most touching and little details I absolutely LOVE from this finale was seeing Luthen in his villain attire listening to Marva’s speech and having that little genuine smirk (almost as if he’s forgotten how to really smile when not for show😢) that shows him that she gets it! The garrison attack and all of the preparation and dangers they took to inspire rebellion and Luthen looks as if he’s hearing the words of his younger self, when he first started the seeds of his network and no one was ready to listen, now being spoken from another mouth to hundreds of eager ears and minds in the masses of this tight nit beautiful community of everyday people in the middle of no where. People who the empire wouldn’t look twice at normally being stirred to action by words Luthen has wanted to scream to everyone for years😄!
And now with all the doubt of if the costs of his sins really mattered he gets to actually SEE and HEAR it from his own eyes and ears the fruition of all his sacrifice. And all of those he’s had to sacrifice to get to this point.
A very minuscule detail. But one I can’t help but get excited about. This show has so much substance and depth that it’s insane. We NEED more Star Wars content like this!
Dude. What a great oration. Amazing. You got it. I loved the episode, but loved your retelling just as much. Keep going brother. Perfect analysis.
It was definitely a GRAND season finale!! I loved how he got so influenced by Nemik’s manifesto, one filled with meaning and depth rather than anger or hate, and the very last scene where Luthen realizes that Cas is exactly the kind of heart the rebellion needs. It was freaking awesome!
I was hoping for a Wilhelm scream when the stormtrooper was kicked out of the tower.
I was hoping they will NOT DO THAT 1000000 YEAR OLD JOKE AGAIN. And I am happy. Jokes aside, the moment was just wrong for WS. Too much tension.
@@LairOfLair it will never get old. But you’re right, probably wrong time for it. But still would have been great imo
I have to agree with both of ya, although I also believe due to seriousness the Wilhelm Scream would've been inappropriate. All seriousness aside would've been sooooo funny. I'd cheered that kick so much more 🤣
@@Zilmayjaink I’m choosing to remember it with the Wilhelm scream 😜
The tangent you made about people hating on *other* groups just trying to be themselves was especially relevant, given recent events. That made me all the more happy to listen to Maarva’s speech after that, and hearing another voice lay it out felt nice. Nicely said, SWE
Brilliant finale of a brilliant season. Hats off. The funeral scene is, for me, probably the most powerful sequence of the whole Star Wars canon...marching up right to the sunset that nobody gets to see in Rogue One. Bloody hell, I teared up but I'm not complaining. A loud cheer to the whole team, in front and behind the camera, and particularly the scripting! Bravo!
Oh man, didn’t catch the mid-credit sequence with the Death Star on first watch, but there is a perfect mirror scene between a close-up of the droid welding the panel in place and of the kid soldering the pipe bomb at the beginning of the episode. The writers of this show are pure geniuses; what perfect visual bookends!
This series has been unbelievably good, and part of enjoying it for me was watching your recaps and thoughts the following day. I will miss them dearly. Can’t wait for season 2: Andor is top-notch Star Wars. I would have never said, at 45, that SW would move me again with something new. I stand happily corrected. Stone and Sky!
I was so scared that the ship Bix, Brasso, Bee & the others were escaping on would get shot down, I didn't breathe until it disappeared into the clouds. Love how the scenes were cut throughout the finale. Oh and a little alcohol makes viewing a little less stressful lol.
Me too!!!! This show has been so raw and tragic and human that I thought the same thing would happen…. And that Cassian wouldn’t know it happened while going to meet Luthen. But he would find out in season 2…crushing him to total despair where Jyn Urso’s hope revives him.
@@411bvRGiskard 😓😓😓
I was sure that was going to happen as well, I'm very glad it didn't.
When in the episode they mentioned a unstoppable force, I thought how in Rogue One he finally hit an impenetrable wall, about how the group,Rogue One, showed the galaxy what they already knew that’s the Empire can bleed
I loved it so much but I’m really sad that it’s going to be a long time before we get season 2
ugh! for rea. like two years most likely.
They said they started filming Season 2 this week. It's possible we get next season next year after Mandalorian Season 3 late 2023 or early 2024
Absolutely loved it. The entire cast was phenomenal including B2-EMO. The practical effects, costumes, storytelling, and world building was incredible. I am truly moved by this series. The word “climb” has become impactful and a motto moving forward. Bravo!!!
I love that stormtroopers are for once menacing. How they just shot anyone down with pinpoint accuracy was just great to see. Hope Disney continues this trend. But I dont have much hope
The music of this episode was just so well done, both background and the funeral march. It just helped keep a certain feeling all throughout the entire episode without ever being over powering.
Amazing finale!
As for Luthian, I was wondering if his reactions to the rebellion on Ferrix was because despite needing things like this to take place, he hoped to never personally see it at ground level.
IMO this makes sense from a few different angles, firstly seeing what he's now seem, it will make it tougher on him to work to get others to make the same sacrifice.
His expressions were hard to read, but there was obviously a bunch of sadness in him for what was occurring, but when you're orchestrating things, you need to stay detached (this actually mirrors back to what Cleaya told him to get when he was listening to his secret radio at night the night off the raid on the garrison.)
One of the most MOVING and I mean MOVING pieces of Star Wars content ever.
Fantastic analysis! Star Wars has so many powerful messages at its core and it’s only when stories are told with this in mind that we get the very best content this franchise has to offer. I appreciate you touching on those themes in a way that is relatable to us Earthlings.
Best review of this I’ve seen yet. Fantastic content as always, thank you so much for bringing so much passion and love to such a great show. You and your channel has so much to offer and I’m so grateful for it! Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much!!
This episode was terrific. The speech by Maarva was very moving. The ending was so satisfying. The End Credit scene was fascinating.
Wow, you really watched this series intently. This is a great review of episode 12 and you tied it to all the others. Love it. I would add a parallel that I caught. In Maarva's speech she describes the Empire and as she does so, her description has the same tone as Luthen's speech to Lonnie. She is also describing Luthen and Saw's approach and why they can't work and you see some emotion when they cut to Luthen's face.
I love ALL of it. This was a fantastic series. Thanks for a great review.
I never thought I would get this emotional over Petunia Dursley. Bravo Fiona Shaw. We don't see her in enough things.
I dont have time to fully express how solid your analysis is. The best on youtube. Hands down. Only comment is I think they showed a parallel between Dedra and Luthan, with both not handling actual street conflict preferring to work in the background.
It did everything and more. I can't consider this second place with Mando. It is equal in first place I don't care what people say. This was a masterpiece
Honestly, after it was all said and done. I couldn't help but feel deep concern for Kino Loy. Now that we know that the parts they were constructing, were in fact pieces of the Death Star. Then the Empire may look into the prison/factory that shut down and slowed down progress. And Kino is still unfortunately at that facility!
Maybe we'll see Krennic show up?
I don't know, but between that, Mothma making a huge sacrifice, Syril wanting to perform a trench run on Dedra, & all hell breaking loose on Ferrix!
I'm SO EXCITED for season 2!!!!
"Syril wanting to perform a trench run on Deedra" 😂 He definitely lowered her shields for sure.
@@renardmccrary8395 I could make an exhaust port joke, but I'm choosing not to. 🤣
I was disappointed with The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan and I was honestly ready to give up on Star Wars, but I'm so glad I gave this show a chance. We need more unique voices like this producing Star Wars material. I can only hope we can spread the word and Andor gets the recognition it really deserves.
Both of these shows were leagues better than Andor.
Agreed. This was THE best episode EVER for any Star Wars Series...ever. This is the model for what future (and current) SW series should strive for. I cannot imagine anything better. This story telling, filming, music, editing, and acting could not be better. Kudos to EVERYONE for THE absolutely best series ever done, respecting the SW universe more than any other. THANK YOU all the creators, actors, editors, and tech crew. I cannot wait for more.
I loved your Chess metaphor for Luthen. Him seeing himself as the King, the "most important" piece of the game is very fitting. It did make me think when you said it, however, that even though you play the game to keep your King safe the Queen is the most powerful piece on the board - which made me think of Mon Mothma. I love the symbolism.
Thanks for your analysis. It cleared a couple of things up for me. I’m off to watch it again for the third time. 🥰😂
As a professional musician in the US Army, I LOVE the Salvation Army-style band!
Your monologue about treating people as "other" (starts around the 10:00 minute mark) was just beautiful. I loved every word.
One thing I cannot help thinking, watching Mon Mothma, is that she has also calculated what this will mean for her daughter: a match with this young man from Chandrilia will remove her daughter from the dangers of Coruscant, and being a part of a "criminal's" family may afford her protections that might not otherwise be available when Mothma resigns from the Senate and goes on the "Most Wanted" list.
That's a good point about protection!
I really like that possibility! The show writers certainly give us just enough details to let us formulate different scenarios on what could happen to even the side characters
I really appreciate you connecting these ideas/messages to real life… especially how people will use fear to trample on other’s individuality and rights. The hate around the world, especially in America, right now is unimaginable and thank you for touching briefly on it. I had to subscribe on the spot
Best STAR WARS series so far! Epic final episode, Maarva's last speech was actually touching. This is the real spark of the Rebellion.
you’re little thing about people in power putting others in boxes and lacking empathy for them etc. was very nice man. beautiful🎉
The fight and riot scene were so tense. They displayed how brutal the Empire was.
I was glad to see some-competent Imperial troops for once.
Ahh the Time Grappler.... loved how he just casually boots an Imp off his tower.
I thought it was interesting that Cassian said he’d find bix and friends since he’s been looking so long for his sister.
Hopefully they find comfort knowing Cassian won’t give up even after years of not finding his sister.
What a show; a show that I never thought would be my favourite of all the Star Wars shows, yet, it surpassed all expectations and became exactly that. Absolutely blown away by the story, characters and the music aswell - was always on the edge of my seat. Season 2 couldn't seem further away but boy am I looking forward to it. 10/10
The funeral and subsequent fight scene reminded me a LOT of the 2020 protests; people trying to gather peacefully but getting instigated into fighting the power causing problems. Star Wars has always been political and I can't help but think that the writers and directors were inspired by the protests.
Tony Gilroy has actually said that he didn't set out to make the show to be political, but due to it's themes it naturally progressed in that direction.
@@mortagon1451 how do you make a political drama not political? 💀
Dude same but also on another note, it reminded me of the fallout of the pandemic and how friends and family weren’t allowed to gather for the funerals of their loved ones well after restaurants had already opened back up. That kind of overreach and oppression really had the same parallel. Both the BLM protests and the anti-gov hatred from covid over each were in this ep and I loved that.
@@JBCKT He didn't want any current real world political events to inspire the show. The politics of the show is universal and timeless not based on any specific events and they serve more as a tapestry for exploring the characters in the story.
1:38. I completely agree, Alex. This show had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Plus, I always know it’s a very good show when the finale end credits roll and I say ‘son of a b*tch!’, because I just want more and they always end on a cliff hanger. Also, I’m unsure if it’s going to come back for a second season, but I really hope it does.
As a side note, I’ve really enjoyed your channel and as a new subscriber since the start of Andor, I’ve been wholly impressed by the classy way you run your channel. You don’t spoil the episodes with thumbnails that give too much away, and your videos are super insightful. I’ve been a fan of Star Wars for many years, but haven’t been in a position to buy comics, read the books, etc, but thanks to your channel, I’ve learnt so much more and like and enjoy Star Wars even more than before because of you, so keep up the great work (that goes to Molly too and any one else involved in your channel).
The contrast between Syril freezing up in episode 3 compared to how he acted during the riot in the finale is incredible
Love your message behind the review! Much Love Alex and Mollie.
Best SW media since ESB. Fight me.
I'm not sure whether I should try to fight you. On the one hand, "There is no try. Do or do not." On the other hand, "Try"
I will fight you.
It's even better.
@@IsaacKuo "Try me and find out you will."🤣
@@L33Reacts LMFAO
This show is so poetic to me and the last episode tied it all up in such a beautiful way.
I think season 2 is going to have a Syril Karn redemption arc. I know a lot of us don't want that, but ... here's the thing. Syril obviously came to Ferrix because of his obsession with Cassian Andor. But the moment he saw Dedra was in danger, he instinctively started running in. Even before Vel ran in for Cinta. It shows how Syril is quintessentially motivated by love rather than revenge or fear or lust for power. Maybe he'll meet a bad end for it, but I think it shows what really matters to him.
I think that's a really good reading. Syril isn't a bad person by nature, he simply wants a community that values him and the Empire seems to be the only place that could give him that.
Syril is in love with imperial justice, seeing dedra as an angel of that justice.
@@NauticalCoffin2404 Yeah, that's my take as well. This is covered in his stalking scene outside the ISB headquarters. He doesn't love her the way that we normally see love portrayed; he is fixated on her because she represents the law and order that he holds in the highest regard. That's not love, it's obsession. I don't think she will, but if Daedra for some reason did end up wavering in her belief in Imperial rule, I'll bet that he would turn on her because that would be a betrayal to what he sees as right.
I believe Syril has obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). He is fixated on Dedra as much as he's fixated on Cass and on his uniforms. His mother!
My guess is Syril grew up lacking any form of validation from his mother - "if I'm a good little boy then I will be rewarded by my parental power figure" - but it never happens so he just tries harder and harder. Note how Dedra doesn't say "Thank You" instead "I guess I should say Thank You". I think his reaction to Dedra is a kind of "fawn" reaction - she's what he wants to be. The creators have been clear that Dedra is a fascist but Syril isn't - remembering what happened to both guys on Ferrix that helped the Empire - my guess he's someone who will do more and more for the Empire in hope of recognition and reward - but instead just gets treated like crap.
I have been loving your videos and reactions to this series. You have a great channel but this show has really upped your game, in my humble opinion. It feels like this show is radicalizing you in your relationship to the world we live in, and I love it. Keep up the great work, online and elsewhere.
I feel the breakout episode was a stronger episode, but this was a very, very great episode and ending to everyone’s arcs! I’m excited to what the next season holds!
Gets to you, doesn’t it? That’s what a reckoning sounds like. You want it to stop, but it just keeps coming. It’s when it stops, that’s when you’ll really want to start to fret.
Maarva Andor
love how well that was paid off in the finale. nicely done.
