minus all the negative comments on here ,my hat goes off to these dudes for making things work for what little tools and machinery they have !!!!!!

My old shop teacher called this "beat to fit, paint to match "machining .However; when you are as poor as these fellows are, you have to make do with what you have .The gear cutting/ hobbing cutters and mill and shapers required for the proper restoration of these splines is beyond their financial resources .I admire them for doing the repair without what the rest of the world calls proper technique.
it jamed !! :D
All these guys capping on these boys, WTH ? They are making do with what they have, that’s called adapting and overcoming the obstacles in front of you, something that Americans used to be good at. Now we’re so spoiled that we can’t even appreciate the fact that they are working their asses off, in the dirt, no less, moving all the pieces by hand, to make it happen. Also, the guys criticizing probably don’t show up to work half the time anyway. You boys got yourselves another subscriber, hat’s off to you for a great video, and a job well done! 🙏💪🤘🤘
I watch some of these vids and half the entertainment is seeing all the seething in the comments from pampered little boys that can't do anything without a heated garage and 30K in tools.
@@kscod6108 I heard that buddy, adapting and overcoming used to be American ideals, now like you said, most of them have super nice shops with all the tools and yet produce jack shit! I appreciate a hard work ethic no matter who it is! 💪💪🙏🙌🙌
Honestly, the extent of negative, arm-chair criticism by posters who don't seem to get that these are the ONLY tools available to get the job done, is breath-taking. In a bad way.
Sorry if they don't follow Western heavy engineering standards, which of course cost vast sums of money, but I dare say these repairs have a useful service life, even if sub optimal, and getting the job done is, after all, the objective.
These people are running businesses. If they didn't provide value, they would be out of business.
How long will this "repair" last? my condolences to the customer
Send this to Kurtis from CEE, it'll send him to the madhouse!
YES
Send one to Warren at western truck and tractor repair too.
C and C Equipment and Squatch would get a kick out of it, too.
As someone who is from Peoria, this is painful to see.
Don’t forget Abom
Not forgetting Pacific Northwest hillbilly and watch Wes work
40 plus years in American mining, seen lots of professional repairs that didn't last. Need to admire these craftsman for their skill.
This shit won't last either. 😋
i agree for the skill , however this kind of job needs cnc precision, hammering that shaft to position dont think will ever work anyways nice try and skilful people yes.
These are great videos. They show the rest of the world how NOT to make a proper repair...
So true
even a jew would cringe
I can see you in their situation doing nothing and starving to death
That part would probably cost $20k in America and I’ll bet the part is running in a D8 right now so I’d say well done. Necessity is the mother of invention
@@sjb3460 i don’t expect that the value of the dozer would justify a new part. If it were a nearly new machine I’d agree with you, but they are probably trying to squeeze the last few thousand hours out of the old lady. It was this, a secondhand part or nothing.
I've already seen a lot of botch on this channel, but this one the top. The carving of the spline is the icing of the cake. Maybe the lathe operator should try them self as a sculptor.
I will assume these guys know that the original part was made of top-grade steel and carefully machined and hardened. And that wore out. So it’s a losing game to tak weld some tiny globs on, wrecking and remaining heat treatment. Not to mention hand-grinding new splines. Splines depend on perfectly uniform surfaces spreading the load out equally. You can’t duplicate that by eyeballing with an angle grinder. This machine will be back with two weeks.
They don’t have a choice, original part is way too expensive for them.
when i saw the grinder cutting by hand , then the sprocket teeth on the concrete block gouging , i knew a big sledge would be used, they should only fix wheel barrows .
you forgot the case hardening of the gears, or lack of i should say. this should last about 12 minutes.
just because you can doesn't mean you should
I saw the hammer coming from a mile off myself. When it arrived on the scene it was a doozie too. Must have been the biggest hammer in the village, I'm telling ya.
@@1pcfred Way to funny, i fear for their feet, that mother is a toe breaker for sure.
You think he got the pitch right on those gear teeth?😂

I'm sorry to say that somewhere during this entire process the patient died
Awesome video and hardworking people.
You shouldn’t need a sledge to mate those 2. As long as it works and lasts I guess it’s good enough. I feel for the next guy who tries to separate them.
Never ceases to amaze me how these people that come from a dirt poor country and a very limited machines to help them and they still possess outstanding skills
You don't seem to know much about mechanical engineering. That is not skill, but pure botch.
@@gneuhaus8047 your right I ride and drive the shit out of stuff I'm not an engineer 🤔My point is if you lived in a crap hole like some of these poor people do then they are very handy with the materials and know how that they possess. I know people in this country ( America) that don't know how to change a spark plug ( literally) let alone create something, that was my point .
3 ring circus and the bearded lady is high as a kite thinking this repair will last.
I don’t which part I enjoyed more, the dismount from the lathe at the end, or the installation of the sprocket to the splines shaft?
hey buddy, if you don't need a sledge to fit the splines then your not tight enough. lol
i come here often to have a great laygh and unwind from the day
omg, unreal
Fit like a glove, didn't it? Almost like it was made to.
I see lots of repair but this one is out of the chart ?!!🤪👍🤣
Where can I get a box of those bent welding rods!
All the commentors below seem to be forgetting one thing as they criticize the quality delivered, or failed to be delivered, here. The owner of the bulldozer came to the shop, and said, "I have $100, do the best you can with it, please. It's all I have in the world. I know it can't be great, but something is a lot better than nothing"
The comments seem very positive, some just assuming they repaired this dozer or even manged to get the sprocket seated or separated again after that first attempt🤣
Jealous much
Welded parts must be heat treated even though it's welded right,so the structure integrity of the welded part won't warp or crack easily and always wear safety measure(s) while handling this kinds of stuff...
Great use of available resources to get the job done
These guys do an amazing job with no resources but having worked for Caterpillar for 20 years including the D8 assembly line this repair is destined to fail.
I have to bite my tongue watching this stuff sometimes. It's easy for us in the west to be critical when we have all the systems in place, tooling, the latest machinery, expertise etc. These guys are trying to get by with bare-bones equipment that predates the turn of the 19th century. However, in saying that the Greeks built the Antikythera mechanism around 100BC so our ability to build precision equipment has been around a friggen long time.
Can't understand what went wrong there, that's the second time this week they've had to recondition that same shaft, and somethings gone wrong with the live center/hammer now!
Why don’t we see the shops where they produce sledgehammers? It totally has to be one of the largest businesses in these countries 🙃
I take it that the mechanic putting it back together gets the honor of hand filling the splines to set the bushing crush.
Didn't see the final fitting together. Maybe it's still sitting there stuck together.
That should get a D8 about 12 feet. Then they can pull it all down and do it again 😂
Wow…… Caterpillar engineers and technicians must be having heart failures after seeing this video. But…. The gear heat treat must be damn good to withstand repeat drops on the concrete. That lathe is taking a beating too.
Half ass fix just to keep it going until it breaks again and then another half ass fix .... Later they make tent pegs out of the final drive.
Wow, awesome lathe work.
Até a recuperação da rosca tudo bem! Problema é a chaveta da engrenagem! Eles não tem a ferramenta adequada! Mas trabalham bem nas condições deles!

it's always a pleasure to watch you! But I'd like to watch a content about Moox. This ecosystem is too underestimated.
I KNEW THAT SLEG HAMMER WAS COMEING OUT TO PLAY 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
How did I know that these "master machinists" were going to re-form threads by pounding the fastener into the threads and re-cut splines with a hand grinder and a cut-off disc 🤣??? It would be interesting to know how many of those precision-cut splines actually produce drive at the same time!! And the "precision fitting" of the splines was beyond belief!!
Master machinist = master bator
It wouldn't be so frustrating if they explained why it was done this way in the description. And yes, hammering splines on, OUCH, wondering what this will fk up down the road.
It was really cringey watching experience.
@@Baisulis84 I was expecting 4 or more of these workers (butchers) to let loose with a mob of sledge hammers at the end, but only one was at it with a sledge hammer, only thing i can think is maybe they only had 1 sledge hammer.
I lost my faith when he started machining the shafts without any dial-in. But then he used a cut-off disk for the splines, so I guess precision was off the table before the work started.
Half Assed well enough to get it back over to the customer. Maintenance involves a call to the shop after weeks of the grinding sounds and clunking stop completely.
I like the “outdoor” shop! These guys are true MacGyvers!!
These guys should have just put the final drive back on the dozer, put the sprocket on there and wack it a few times with that sledge hammer till those precision grinder cut splines locked into the sprocket splines, then roll the whole dozer off the nearest cliff and hope the sprocket lands on the right tree stumps a few times and drives it the rest of the way on. JUST ANOTHER DAYS' WORK BOYS.
This rebuild might need to wear in a bit

I would suggest to design a tool so you can fix the grinder on the carriage.Great job!
There is the old saying, never do a half-ass job, only do the job that you would be proud to put your signature on. These people apparently have never heard of that particular old adage and therefore they make their repairs on machinery about one step above being labeled as a Neanderthal repairmen with tools. Correctness and Precision are not words within their vocabulary nor are those words in their mental understanding of what is required when making specific and crucial repairs.
These videos are a prime example of how to destroy a lathe. I wish they would take care of their equipment, poverty is no excuse.

It’s hard to accept as western skilled engineers, ( I did 5 years toolmaking and two more as a Jig Borer!) that they would even attempt this methodology, but they do pull it off, whereas I doubt we could even attempt it!?
