The MacBook Air M1 is a Goat tier computer for Apple, it was a good value when it first came out after the M2 came out it became a better deal. Apples M2 air has a big problem in that it's in the middle of the Apple lineup, once you spec up it becomes even less of a good deal. Moving forward until Apple gets rid of selling the M1 Air or dropping the price of the M2 the M1 will be the king of their lineup in regards to cost per performance.
I wanted a MBA M1 to replace my Intel MBA mainly because the fan bugged the heck out of me. When BB had Apple Days with the MBA M1 going for $800, I didn’t hesitate. I didn’t want the M2 because of the much higher price plus I’d have to buy a new hard case. Many people still like the MBA Intel and I sold mine for $450. The M1 just seems snappier along with being fan-free.
I just got my M1 Macbook air the other day and loving it! I updated to ventura so I can use the iPhone’s camera as replacement to the webcam. Oh and hey! You improved your speaking tone!!! That’s a win! Keep it up man!
I really wanted a new MacBook since my 2012 Pro model needed a battery swap. So eventually I found one on eBay, the only one in my country available. Messaged the seller and had to travel about 6h back and forward by train to get it. Negotiated the price and got it for only 400€ I think I got a great deal and what I didn’t know is that it had only 63 charge cycles so it was still on 99% battery life. And with Christmas around the corner I treated myself with a little present :).
I was really thinking about getting the M2 model, but I wanted it to have 16GB of RAM and 512HD, but its price was reaching Macbook Pro area and getting too expensive, and I'm not interested in the Pro version because of my simple use (also, budget). So the M1 is a better option. My only concern is future updates, as it was released in November 2020, so it'll be 3 years this year.
It'll be good for at least another three to five years. Because the M2 chip is just an over clocked version of the M1 chip. And there are still upcoming macs that use the M2 chip, like the 15 inch m2 mac book Air. If you need an computer right now, then a refurbished macbook air with 256 gb of memory and 8 gb of ram will be perfect for a simple use case. And should hold you over until the M3 mac's are released. Right now refurbished m1 macbook airs are going for 850 dollars.
I think Apple will support it for a very long time, at least until 2026 or even more. MacOS Ventura is supported on 2017 machines, so I don't see why they wouldn't do that, especially when the M1 is an apple custom processor. They tend to favor their own products for long term support
I was planning on upgrading my m1 8g MacBook Air due to performance issues but Ventura has fixed all the slow down/mouse lag issues I was having. I think I'm good for another year this thing is so nice.
Like literally, what do you do to even call that the Air was slow for you? Unless you render 8K and expect to export it in 2 minutes how on earth you can call this a slow machine?! 99% of the people on the whole planet can barely use 10% of the power. So maybe you are among those 1% then you should not even have an Air lol.

yah, I still think the M1 chip for the air is the best value even now in 2023. The m2 chip is obviously more powerful, but it's really overpowered for the air and gets throttled down to m1 speeds anyway and m1 air is optimized for the M1 chip so it will perform better than the m2 when the m2 is throttled in SOME use cases (most of those use cases are for basic users - but I'm a basic user these days for my laptop so it works well for me.). Now if you are looking at a MacBook Pro then obviously opt for the M2 but until they put a good cooling system back into the MacBook Air, the M1 seems to be the best option.

I'm actually am using my 2017 MacBook pro and have a 2020 MacBook Air M1 on the way. Happy I saw your response!
I’m also upgrading from a base model 2017 Pro, how much ram did u go with?
@@beijoflor I went with the 8 gig 256 SSD. I figured that's the same configuration my MacBook pro had and it ran fine for what I needed it for. I picked it up for $750.

@@beijoflor Great, hope you like it!
I’ve had this one for over a year now. It does overheat from time to time, especially when running some games, but definitely a huge upgrade from my previous 2015 MacBook Air 😎

That’s what I’m upgrading from too! Thanks for commenting!
If you haven't already, the thermal pad mod is a big help if you play games.
What games do you play?
@@MariaMinter uhm will that void your warranty? Also, using the thermal pad mod will increase temperatures at the bottom significantly (and higher chance that the SoC will throttle down earlier than without it-due to the heat.)
I just bought this, MBA-M1 this June/2023. I needed this for my college classes. The one I had previously MacBook Pro that I had for 13 years is now junk! And I gave it to my dad. Well, so far I am loving my new MBA-M1. I will never buy the pro again. I just miss the Logo lighting up on the Macs too😢
I’m still running my M1 Air with 8gb ram. Since Ventura launched it slowed down when using Lightroom & Photoshop, then I realised that all I needed to do was turn Stage Manager off when I was editing and it works great again.
Yeah I heard stage manager is pretty power hungry, glad you have the option to turn it off!
Glad to hear you were able to figure out a solution.
Just bought a m1 macbook pro a couple days ago and im definitely satisfied with my decision. Even the pro is surprisingly thinner than i thought it would be
Watching on my 16 GB 1TB MacBook Air. This machine surprises me every day. Currently I have Discord and 41 tabs open in Chrome and it's sitting in the high 30s/low 40s in terms of temperature (degrees celcius). Battery life easily lasts a day, the screen is beautiful, build quality is fantastic, this is what a laptop should be.
Ur battery life lasts that long with chrome? I don’t get that long, only 5/6 hrs
@@Lovekarisma Oh sorry I was just referring to in general, I don't have to charge my laptop the entire day. I'm not saying that the laptop gives me a day of usage. Yeah, for me I get 5/6 hours of screen on time with chrome as well.
The M2 MBA is selling for $999 at Costco now.
I had been contemplating the $799 MBA M1 all throughout the holidays, but once I caught wind of the after Christmas sale on the M2, I decided to wait.

You nailed it in every way. I think the lack of of the notch is a very big plus.
I bought the M1 when it was new, and it is still going great! It's my first Mac, and I love it!
Just snagged one today! An “open box” deal at Best Buy for $748! Absolute mint condition! I went in for the M2 but my wife noticed the deal! Too good to pass on! I couldn’t be happier!
I bought mine when they first dropped them and I'm still using it to make music with Logic Pro X. The thing kicks serious arse 👍🏼😎
I’m in nursing school and it works beautifully, gets everything done. Going into 2 years with it
I got mine last year, I'm loving the m1. I got the one above the base model. 516gb working pretty good
I wanted a MBA M1 to replace my Intel MBA mainly because the fan bugged the heck out of me.
I got a pair of these for free defective. Disassembled both and got one working. My first Mac and is impressed how effective the M1 is
I really wanted a new MacBook since my 2012 Pro model needed a battery swap.
Got it on my birthday on mid - year,
Glad is a powerhouse MacBook with affordable price,
Probably the best MacBook Air ever owned.
I mean I just put Ventura on a 2012 so probably be just fine!
I think Apple will support it for a very long time, at least until 2026 or even more. MacOS Ventura is supported on 2017 machines, so I don't see why they wouldn't do that, especially when the M1 is an apple custom processor. They tend to favor their own products for long term support
Don’t buy the older one just spend more
@@LordBagdanoff That's a really shallow argument

You have to get 512 instead of 256 for the M2
i am an automation and devops engineer and this laptop has been incredible in my opinion because I have been using the lowest spec MacBook air m1 with 8gb and 256 gb option and so far with my day to day even heavy usage I haven't found any issues in it so far it has held up pretty well in my opinion and works really good too so far, with vs code, git and jenkins running in the background 247 plus working off remotely from a vdi and casual web browsing and watching netlfix and formula one, this machine has not failed to disspoint me as of yet.
