I used to play this on the ea sports double header cartridge with ice hockey. I remember enjoying it but no idea what buttons to press. RIP John Madden

The scaling is quite impressive, especially for such an early Genesis title.

A Nickel defence blitz could stuff the end around. Dime was best, shut out city.

Ah yes I remember when I first played this game, it was at a party at the house of one of my dad's coworkers so all us kids were up in the bedroom playing this. Each game score was like 77-70, all one play drives, 60-yard TDs. That touchdown jingle was pretty cool too.

This game is history. For the fact console players never. Ever. Saw football like this before. And a major reason sega did so well vs Nintendo. It was huge in America. And paved the way for other sports games to becoming franchises today.

There's probably many retro gaming people out there playing this game to honor his memory.
Tecmo Super Bowl held the crown when it came out also. But Madden was so detailed , it really taught you how to play football. Tecmo Bowl was just exciting

becomeanolive1 looking back at it I grew up playing this game at a young age . The windows introduced ppl on how to throw in coverage , how to read the open receiver . Most madden gamers who grew up in the video game wars late 80s and 90s are great in every madden or any other football game that’s come out past 30 yrs. Madden now on next gen is next level compared to this but it doesn’t really teach you . Kids who hop on Madden now learn glitchy plays to get over, it doesn’t feel like you’re playing chess .if you never played Madden a day in your life and you have to play ‘20 you’d be lost

Loved this back in the day. Would rush 4 - 5 yards a carry. Run the game clock down to 1. My opponent would get one possession all game.
Very frustrating for them. Extremely entertaining for me.
