You didn't mention the funniest aspect of John Madden Football '92, the ambulance bumping any player in its way off the screen. In subsequent Madden Genesis games, the players moved out of the way when the ambulance showed up.
lol thanks for the info. I swear I had a vague memory of this but thought it was the ambulance in Road Rash I was thinking about. Thanks for watching and commenting! :D
I didn't start playing football video games until I got a Genesis for Christmas '91. Joe Montana Football was my first football game, and I absolutely loved it. My cousin got the sequel, and I ended up really enjoying the play-by-play commentary. Since then, my overall favorite became the first Tecmo Super Bowl on Genesis. I have a lot of fun randomly selecting 1 team from each conference, and then trying to get both of them to the Super Bowl.
I feel like EA perfected that engine with those last 2 college games, College Football USA 96-97 are pretty damn great football games for the Genesis, it's a shame they couldn't give us a few more Madden games, Madden 99, 2000, 2001 on the Genesis with that engine
The first Genesis Madden (1990) came out before the first NHL game was released (1991.) So there was no way that Madden was created by the same engine as NHL.
Glad to see someone else appreciating Super High Impact. I still have my original copy from the nineties and break it out from time to time, it's simple stupid fun.
My favorite is still the original Tecmo Bowl. There is something off about 2 and 3. I think it's probably the graphics. I think the speed bothered me. I appreciated the deep stat tracking on the new ones though. Great video btw. Crazy to say, but I missed the music during gameplay of Tecmo Bowl in 3. It was part of it's awesomeness. I love the music in 1 that plays during on the field! And the cute little clips of tunes after a first down. For Madden, I gotta go with 97. 98 for me was just a roster update. Loved the first Joe Montana.
Tecmo Super Bowl is probably my favorite football game of that era. I could never get into the Maddens, but I do like Madden 92 because the ambulance runs your guys over.
I really enjoyed the BlueSky games. I liked 94 the most. I was able to catch the ball with Derrick Thomas in a pitch off. It was funny. The college ones were fun too. The tecmo series were my favorite though. I liked the snes ones more for some reason. I was only able to find Super Bowl 2 on the genesis but had the other two on the snes.
BlueSky did some solid work in the Genesis days for sure. I'll have to try Tecmo series on SNES for comparison, also took me a while to find all 3 on the Genesis when collecting for some reason. Thanks for watching and commenting! :D

I own Mutant League Football but I still haven't given it much of a chance. I'll play it next time I get a chance.
I had Madden 96. It was really good. I also had Mutant League Football, and while I love that it's unique and awesome, Madden 96 was a better, deeper game.

I still play retro football games specifically the NFL 2k series. I don't miss those days fix I'm still in them! Thanks for the video.

NFL football 94. I could return the kick off every time with Mel Grey without fail. Flea flicker without fail every time for the TD in ESPN. Loved that. 😂
Tecmo Super Bowl 3 is easily the best game on the system. I follow football religiously, and don’t care for any other sport. I saved up paper route money to buy this from a friend. Played millions of hours of it
I really wish we got more description about each game, I mean, they were ranked but, we didn't really learn much about why they were ranked in each spot, or what made each game good/bad. It put me to sleep watching this at least though! But just some constructive Criticism. Yes it'd take longer but, if you played each game, than maybe tell us how the mechanics and gameplay felt, how passing was, how running was, tackling, all the in game features like if it had playoffs full season and create a player and trading, etc. Knowing just the name and publisher doesn't really help us learn anything about the actual game! Personally my favorite on Genesis is Madden 97!

Agreed. Good concept and length of the video covering each one, but not much meat behind each game as to what stands out. Mostly I got the vibe that they listed the unique arcade style games higher because they stood out or were more fun to play.
