I recently got a mint copy of Madden '92 CIB at a local pawn shop. They were asking $5 for it. When I went up to the bulletproof window to checkout, the manager was busy on the phone. He motioned to me "whatcha got?" I held up the game and he said "just take it, don't worry about it". SWEET! Can't wait to play it when my childhood best friend moves up to my same town in a month!

However, ironically the best football game on the Sega Genesis in my opinion is Bill Walsh 95 since it takes everything that was good in Madden 94 (graphics) and Madden 95(windowless passing and 2 point conversions) combined into one excellent game with lots of atmosphere.
Bill walsh 95 was good. I like madden 95. It feels accurate to me. Gamecplay is great. More control on everything. Stats are nice. The high stepping was the burst of speed 😂

Yes! Lets talk Madden. The first Madden blew my mind. The first Madden experience for me really started in Madden 94. Lots and lots of memories. Then after 94, my next Madden was 97 on the PlayStation. I only played a few games there. In 94 I had played several seasons with Giants, Steelers and Raiders. Then came 98, where I started to create athletes. I even played with Cardinals for two seasons. My first team there was Pittsburgh. Started the season 0-3, but finished at 12-4. Then Madden 99, then on to PS2 Madden 2001 where I took my Raiders into a double decade of dominance. 23 Super Bowls back to back covering Madden 2001 for six seasons, Madden 2003 for six seasons, then Madden 2004 for 9 seasons nonstop. Think I'll have to make a video about that lol. I haven't played much Madden lately, but as of now, I'm using Madden 15 and I'm slowly creating athletes from the 90s, 80s, and beyond. I'm calling it Madden Legends. Yes I'm using players real numbers and physical attributes and giving them player ratings of 99. I made Dan Mario with the Mark brothers, Mark "Super" Duper and Mark Clayton along with MLB Zack Thomas. For the Chiefs I made Christian Okoye, and man it looks just like him. The reason I'm doing this is because Madden is just too easy for me, and at the All-Madden level. So I'm creating all these Legends to give me a good challenge. I just love football

Personally, I would rank the original John Madden an A, but without a doubt, we both agree that '92 was the best version of Madden. I rented '93 and '94, but was just never convinced that they were as good as those earlier versions. It was shortly thereafter that I handed down my original Genesis to my brother, but for some reason, I held on to those two games (along with Lakers vs. Celtics and the NBA Playoffs). I decided to rebuild my Genesis collection with all the games I owned (and about 100 more!) about 6 years ago, but I am sooo glad that I still have my original Maddens!

FWIW, I personally think that, as far as the “modern-ish” era is concerned, Madden hit its peak with its 2004-05 iterations. The Playmaker feature was a huge leap for the series, and led to some high scoring games in 2004. Of course, 2005 balanced out the game with Playmaker emphasis on the Defensive side, making games among human opponents compelling for sure! So yeah, 2005 was arguably the best Madden of that era - and it needed to be. While one could argue that both games were very good, you just couldn’t ignore the value proposition Sega threw out there in their final year with the license. So as far as “Bang for the Buck” is concerned, 2K5 was the winner, hands down. For me, Madden derailed with that Passing “cone of death” that they introduced in 2006. Sure, you could disable it, but considering that it was a cornerstone of that year’s version, it really set back the series for me personally - especially when your favorite team’s QB had a cone that was barely the width of a receiver!
Madden 92 is S+++ for me, it's one of my favorite sports games. Even beat all madden with every team in the game, and some teams it's kinda hard. Still play it all the time

It gives it a more arcadey feel but it's maybe a little too crazy at time with players who can leap for 8 yards. 1997 is an impressive simulation for the Genesis but I understand it not appealing to people who prefer the earlier gameplay feel (I do too) but 97 is easily the best sim-style football game on the Genesis. 98 is sadly a lazy, buggy update for a console that was on its last legs. My favorite football game overall on the Genesis is easily Bill Walsh College Football 95 which combines all of the best aspects of Madden 94 and 95.
I got John Madden Football as a Christmas gift in 94, when I was a brand new football fan. I still like the way it plays, except when the A.I. doesn't put up a good fight at the end-the CPU may need a touchdown with the final seconds ticking away, and choose run on 4th down at midfield. I love when it cuts to show you other playoff games during halftime. I love the overly intense intro music. The ending is a bummer; just an image of the trophy and then back to the title screen. Back then in the 90s, I eventually preferred NFL Quarterback Club, but now if I want to play football on Genesis, it's not for a sim game--I go to 2k5 for that-my Genesis footballing is JMF original or 92, or Bill Walsh 95.

Excellent idea for a video. I would emphasize that Madden 93 (maybe 94?) is the last year without the official team names (no NFL license). Some might care about that... not a big deal for me though. My personal favorite team is the 85 Bears, and they are represented in the game (players by number and not by name of course). Madden 93 is definitely worth the purchase if you’re out game hunting and you see it for $5-10. Fun to pop in and play sometimes, even today. Happy gaming my friends!
Its nice to see a person with a RUclips channel enjoy playing sports games. Seems like gamers with RUclips channel don't like sports games. I prefer Madden 96 cuz the Panthers and Jaguars are in it. I miss the ambulance part. Also I enjoy watching john madden story in these games.
I totally agree, Madden 92 was the best Genesis Madden! It's a similar story with the early "NBA Live" games such as Bulls vs. Lakers. EA abandoned the arcade fun factor and opted to go to a more simulation style for the games that followed.

John Hancock My Favorite Old School Madden Game Was Madden 93 For The Sega!
I think they're all good in their own way but I think the PS2 Maddens are way better. I would like to see you rank all the PS2 Maddens.
10/10 thumbnail lol.
'Boom, he's on his back'
Never knew u were a fellow Birds fan...nice

Good video and nice ranking of all the Madden games! I never though there was that many(9).
Glad you enjoyed!
I guess the Megadrive / Genesis Maddens were better than their SNES equivalents? Blast processing and all that. Or no?
Early SNES Maddens are not my favorite. Later ones were better as they were able to be programmed better to reduce the slowdown.
I like this style of videos very helpful for me as I want to play these games with my Analogue systems. Thank you for posting :)
Funny, that’s what I used with each cart to capture footage!
@@johnhancockretro The Mega SG is such a great product. Please do more like this of series games ranked within same console generation very helpful :)
Great video thanks. I hope your next video you can announce 100k subscribers. Doubt the doubters and we will see you in your museum.
Yes! Genesis sports games are the best and I love when reviewers don't dismiss them! Thanks for this please do more!
Madden 92 was the only one I had for the genesis so it's nostalgic for me playing it on a 20inch CRT TV
Madden always has his arms as if going "I don't know". 😂
I have/had the '93 Championship edition.... and it wasn't cheap, but definitely worth it.
Thanks for the information. Excellent video
There’s a cheat code in madden 96 that lets you pick teams from the World League… those London Monarchs memories
Looking fresh in your football gear😁👍🏻also a late congrats on the new 4k tv
Thank you!
Madden '93 is my jam. No one can beat me with the Bills.
Lol the ambulance just mowing players down
Its nice to see a person with a RUclips channel enjoy playing sports games. Seems like gamers with RUclips channel don't like sports games. I prefer Madden 96 cuz the Panthers and Jaguars are in it. I miss the ambulance part. Also I enjoy watching john madden story in these games.
Great video and I agree wholeheartedly on all points made! Go Jags! Love from the UK John
I totally agree, Madden 92 was the best Genesis Madden! It's a similar story with the early "NBA Live" games such as Bulls vs. Lakers. EA abandoned the arcade fun factor and opted to go to a more simulation style for the games that followed.
It's interesting to see how different all the Genesis Maddens were when the ones their pumping out today are literally the same game every year lol
Is that a Rodney Peete jersey? Man, as a Lions Fan it brings back memories of the 95 playoff loss...

@@johnhancockretro Thanks! That makes alot more sense!
Glad to see you rocking the green man. Fly Eagles Fly!
Yes!!
True fans root for their teams thick and thin.
And as Eagles fans, we've seen plenty of both! Haha!
@@Ravenwing888 kinda sad the eagles aren’t doing so good this time aroun’ but there’s just something about them that I can’t get enough of
@@JusticePyro We may just turn the corner yet man. Besides, what else are we gonna do? Root for the Cowboys? XD
Nice! Cool thumbnail!
Thanks!
BRADY=GOAT!!!!
JOHN =GOAT of Collecting!!!!
Let’s get him to 100K!
When you said EA kept adding more features to Madden, I had to do a double take...that hasn't been said for EA and Madden for over 15 years.
93 had great gameplay my personal favorite I grew up with. 96 and 98 I remember were good. I liked genesis versions better but I first got it on snes.
