- Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga star Anya Taylor-Joy joins British GQ as she revisits some of the most notable film characters in her career so far: from playing Casey Cooke in M. Night Shyamalan’s Split to her leading role as Beth Harmon in The Queen’s Gambit.
“I was very lucky to have a dance background,” explains Taylor-Joy as she breaks down her portrayal of Beth Harmon in The Queen’s Gambit. “Ballet specifically was really helpful in terms of discipline and understanding choreography. Ballet has played a huge part in the way that I act-because it’s finger choreography, that’s what you’re doing.” Watch the full episode of British GQ’s Iconic Characters as Anya Taylor-Joy breaks down her most iconic movie roles.

these scouts have GOT to change their tactics, I would have run screaming
The sad truth is, they’ll deal with worse. Such an awful industry if you don’t already have family in it, even then it can be awful.
A lot of scouts will hang out in popular malls outside clusters of shops directed at clothing, jewelry, or beauty. Tho I got scouted at a Baskin Robins one time, for Miss America of all things??? 😂 I was like 17 so most (like 3?) 18+ agencies I had to turn down. The “younger focused” agencies were… terrifying children k-12 with blinding teeth doing their best impression of a Farrah Fawcett smile, went to that audition invited by a scout once and scared me away from modeling period lol
I once had a guy in a car (but it was parked at the moment) approach me with some sort of stuff about modelling. I do NOT look like someone who can do modelling, so I assumed there was something dodgy about it and walked away. Still alive these days lol 😂
They don't have to change their tactics because this story is simply not true. If you look into it Anya Taylor-Joy is a nepo baby. She went to elite prep schools, was born with connections and money, ran in the same circles as british aristocrats just like the delevingnes. Still often photographed attending society parties.
they could just throw a business card at u and say "bring ur parents with u to lunch to talk!!"
That is an UNBELIEVABLY INAPPROPRIATE way to recruit talent.
That agent had one opportunity to recruit her and he/she lived with it.
This is what luck is. Be at the right place at the right time and have what is needed to get what you need.
I mean yeah but if I was a recruiter and saw a girl casually walking her dog in heels I’d immediately know she’s meant for modeling. He def could have been a lil less creepy abt it tho 😭
@@avocadoesarenice4206 There is nothing creepy about this. Women are affraif of everything that is their problem.
this does happen quite often though
He slowly rolled up to her so she woget scared and she began walking away. He tried to catch up. She freaked and ran. Upon realising he scared her he called out to her.
Would you rather someone come at you at high speed and slam on there brakes next to you, then jump out and come running over?
This happened to me but it wasn’t a modeling agent ☹️
HELP same here..
#sidecharacter #unfortunatelyrelatable
Same
For me it was a bike
😭😭
Just a reminder that there are "modeling agencies" scouting girls for trafficking and it's a method used very often. There's even movies about it
The comment likes at 911 currently.. NO ONE DARE TO CHANGE IT!!
The Minnesota Connection.
Also scams for money grifting. My family got suckered into the classes.
Just a reminder that there are also modeling agencies that umm aren't.. and if you're an aspiring model you may need better advice than "bad thing exists" lol
Also the movie Abducted
Having rich parents also helps with “being in the right place at the right time”
Thats the true Story after all
Yup!
What rich parents would let their daughter become a model. Rich parents send you to college and give you a good job
@@ani_n01the ones who are rich enough that it doesn't matter what you do, you're guaranteed money for the rest of your life (Kendall Jenner off the top of my head, btw does any Kardashian aside from Kris, Kim, & Kendall even have a job??)
@marg4581 No...selling your daughter to a modeling agency is basically pimping, only the poor do it. Celebrities who became models AFTER they became rich can choose what to do and what not to do cause people respect them so it's safe for them.
Oh god that could’ve ended so badly 😂
replying to show you how many likes you got
Especially if it was true... But rich parents with contacts doesn't make for a good story
But it didn't.
Think optimistic.
Yes but why put a '😂' emoji. What alternative ending you are thinking
@@11ldevendrakumaragrawal27😂 means it wasn’t a bad ending therefore we can laugh about it…
Friendly reminder that actors and actresses often exaggerate or fabricate stories to add intrigue to an otherwise ordinary experience.
Imagine if everyone had this critical thinking
@@davidstaffellassuming that every single person belonging to a profession lies is also lack of critical thinking skills.
Exactly. I doubt she ever ran at all, or was wearing heels 😂
I will never forget running away into a makeup shop in a mall cause a guy tried to 'scout' me but i had no idea that was a thing and i thought i was about to get kidnapped
And other things that didn’t happen😂
well just bc he said he was scouting doesnt mean he was telling the truth, good that u ran away for your own safety that is always the right thing to do in such situation. believe yourself, your gut feeling and if something is not an instant YES 100% from ur gut and your heart then it is just a no
Same happened to me but the guy was a photographer, I finally agreed to take his card but I didnt gave him any information about me. So I did some research and turns out, he was NOT someone any girl would want to work with.
Maybe you were
i'm not saying you could (because you probably could), but you most likely would be kidnapped. it's the same tactics on the same kind of girls (thats why it works)
and why agents (normal ones) kinda don't do it like this anymore? bc it's weird
specially now people are much more aware of it
Honestly it’s a little irresponsible to share this. 9.9999999 times out of 10 that story ends differently for girls
@@batyamedved5625yeah, absolutely, because this spreads the idea that hey, what if this chaser is not a bad person? the tactic was BAD and her sharing this is, even tho it happened to her, is irresponsible
@@juandiegocuadros7756 can’t be irresponsible if she HAS NO RESPONSIBILITY
@batyamedved5625 Celebrities influence people, she's absolutely responsible for what she says publicly
@@BloodthirstyAcademic There’s this thing called freedom of speech
@batyamedved5625 I never said we should mute her, or anybody else. I said that since she has great influence on the masses, being a celebrity, she should be more considerate about her public statements. Stories like this can be misinterpreted, especially young children, and lead them to dangerous situations
Reminder that she has been caught exaggerating her supposed childhood stories. She's mega, mega, mega rich.
omg really?
Her dad is an international banker and she went to private school. So yeah rich parents.
@@ElizabethCarterMediaPrivate school doesn't automatically mean rich parents. I went to private school for years and we were solidly middle class.
lol what does that have to do with her being discovered randomly on the street? She’s simply saying her parents weren’t her connection to the entertainment industry
@@ContentMadame fair. but in her case… she was!
Everyone in Hollywood has pretty outrageous stories of how they started their career 😂
Well it used to be because they wanted to cover up the reality of the “casting couch” but now it’s cos they all wanna appear “relatable and so humble” despite most of em being nepotistic hires with relatives in the industry.
I am sure you are also born to the right parents and in right time
This.
ikr
You have to have the genetics, the talent, the upbringing, the network, the natural circumstance, the random luck, and all of that may still yield no results in the end. On the other hand you don't need over the top success to feel the full reward that life has to offer. The true human connection and community is the endgame, all other considerations are cool and all, but once you feel it, you don't think being a rock star or a top actor is the requirement for having a blast in life.
Imagine being such an ethereal beauty that a modeling agent would chase you
Except that she's lying
@@ceceh9742 this is just PR things like that don't happen

No hate to her but the title at the end pf the video is « gq heroes ». She’s not a hero, she’s a celebrity, an actress lol. Lets not get confused.
it really feels like "hero" doesn't mean anything specific anymore, right? people (companies) keep throwing it around. bill burr did a bit about this like 10 years ago and it has only gotten truer 😅
Thanks Tom Branson
Stories like this in the modern day always give me industry plant.
Yep, it's fake af. Unless you wanted to be in the corn industry, take her advice
She is
Well, I don't think an industry can really plant anything unless the audience accepts something as awesome. For every single top actress there is like a thousand supremely beautiful and charismatic talents that just didn't make it because the response was not what the industry is demanding now.
She shouldn’t tell this story bc kids are impressionable and might think that’s a good idea when it ABSOLUTELY IS NOT.
It’s not her job to screen content for other people’s children. It’s the parents’. Sincerely, a mom

@@boutinpowered8373 She grew up rich lol
Oooowkay, i wasn't ready for how deep her voice is
Why is it that in every model/scouting story I hear, the scout in question is using the most batshit creepy, unhinged tactics imaginable??
Like if it were me in her shoes, I would run and I would not stop until I found a good corner to duck into and wait for them to leave.
These scouting agents really gotta figure something else out, ‘cause someone’s gonna get pepper sprayed or tased one day if they haven’t already.
Cuz a lot of them are fake stories
Because scouts are just professional lechers
Unfortunately really ambitious and driven people often fall victim to the coomer syndrome. And the acting/modelling industry tends to accumulate maximum amount of this tendency unfortunately
Cause most of those stories are fake lol
Yeahh.. I don’t know if I’d go around telling that story without a much more prominent disclaimer to little girls to Not fall for the “I’m a talent scout/model agency manager” introduction…
Well, she’s talking to GQ, not little girls.
It helps when your dad is a billionaire

The internet says millionaire 😂. Nearly the same.
He's a rich banker, not close to a billionaire. Words mean things
She had always seemed honest to me. I believe it.
Yeah. And your dad being rich wasn't a factor in your career... It was you walking your dog.
Riiiight. Uhu...
doesn't seem like literal. however, she could be scouted on the rich neighborhood she lives in. thats why she wasn't kidnapped (or didn't think about it)
Nice story over overcoming adversity there 👍🏼 Really makes her relatable. ✨
It's a fake story lol
Yh right her family is loaded
Also a contributing factor to her living in LA to begin with, but has little to do with getting scouted
Like... money and connections matter, but money alone with no connections won't help lol. Her dad is a rich banker and has little to do with Hollywood
Ok but the guy probably should still be on a list for acting like that
😐🥱quit acting like she was lucky. She was already privileged and connected.
Jealous much.....

She was born rich. Her parents paid people to let her model. Story is fake

That is terrifying!!! So glad she is safe. Definitely explains her comfort with the horror genre. ❤
Doesn't hurt when your family is wealthy and connected...right place, right time is their summer home...ATJ is talented, but seriously? I doubt your mother ever questioned your ambition, and your success was likely never questioned. I don't think you ever had to convince her you would end up in the right place at the right time.
She is wealthy but i dont think she has any connections to the industry. She is lucky tho, born with unique looks, white, etc…that’s how she got there along with talent
@@ImagineStory-rw5ks She does have connections though. She's long time friends with a Getty. Way before her peak. As long as you're wealthy, doesn't matter what social circle you're in. Rich people like to surround themselves with other rich people.
@@ImagineStory-rw5kswealth buys connections and opportunities. If she were in a poorer area, she most likely wouldn’t have been chased by someone in the industry. Everything is more connected than just having direct connections. Wealth in itself puts you in situations you otherwise wouldn’t be in.

She has a little bit of all accents. She has an accent of her own. It’s fascinating. She doesn’t seem like a person at all.
It’s creepy that teens are models. Can we stop that? Can actual adults be models instead? Creepy old dudes choose 12-16 year olds to start modeling. Why? Obsession with youth and fear of women needs to stop

Her dad probably pulled some strings for that car chase.
The way that agent approached her is creepily similar to the beginning of Split
