    Hey LC, I don't have my NX1 with me at this time but could swear that focus peaking is working during movie mode for me using Nikon lenses and a cheap $25 adapter (no electronics). If I remember correctly there was a button on the left side of the screen that toggles it on/off. I will have to double check when I get home.

      I have a rokinon cine lens which is manual and when I press the button on the left it brings up focus peaking for video mode. I saw it in his camera too, maybe he didn't know that's what it was for

      No, there are no adapters for this camera with AF

    Great video... concerned about this... went shooting over the weekend: temperature differences, hot, humid, snow, smoke the works!
    I use manual lenses with adapters... sometimes to lengthen the distance between body and lense... anyway one word; Wobble!
    Should I glue some of these rings and adapters together??

    You said you were curious, maybe I can help!
    1. It doesn't automatically punch in/peak because the lens is not communicating to the camera that it is focusing, when using the adapter.
    2. You can focus peak in video with the adapter. Go to options -> key bindings, and bind it to desired button. I use the preview button (on the backside of the camera)

    Hi, I like you video. but I have question, I have an NX2000 camera and I needed a lens bigger than its original lens. I bought a PENTAX SMC DA 50-200mm F/4-5.6 ED Lens (Black). it is a manual lens and it does not march my lens. I searched the RUclips to know what kind of adapter I can use, but a lot videos out there that am confused the more. Please what do you advise me to do or what kind adapter do i need to buy?

      There unfortunately are no Samsung adapters except for manual only lens control

    you can use focus peaking while recording or in standby movie mode. Whilst recording or in movie standby mode, click an icon on the left side of the screen, below microphone volume icon. It switches on focus peaking :)

    There are a bunch of programmable buttons on the camera, and I have set my "preview" button, which is basically in the trigger position on the front right of the handle, to start or stop focus peaking. It can also be set to keep focus peaking on continuously after the button is pressed until you either take a picture or press it again to disable it.\
    After using it a few times it is very easy.
    Of course Samsung can't detect when you use the focus dial on a lens that is not electronically attached tot he camera, so this is not a defect in Samsungs camera.
    Also, the focus speed or sensitivity of the focus ring is adjustable on the Samsung lenses. It is possible to use it.

    So there IS focus peaking while recording video.. that is fantastic :) and I saw elsewhere (and it's probably in your other video on this subject that I will see next now) that it can be activated with completely manual lenses.
    I'm planning on going to this camera from the Fujifilm X-T1 simply because the NX1 out performs it quite a bit, specially on the video side of things. And so far I only have my old third party lenses for the X-T1 (K-mount) which I will also be able to use on the NX1 (bar the excellent Samyang 12mm f/2, but that comes for the NX1 as well).
    Thanks for this video :)

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  9 лет назад +3

      Yep, I'm using the NX1 with the Rokinon Cine 85mm T1.5 and it works perfectly with focus peaking. I'm also using all my Canon lenses without issue. Took some awesome pictures with the Canon 70-200mm f2.8L IS II with no issues. The only thing is that the throw is short on some Canon lenses so precise focus is difficult if you are shooting really shallow. Just a tiny move on the focus ring can amount to a big change.

    • @Alexandra-Rex
      @Alexandra-Rex 9 лет назад

      LearningCameras.com This sounds good. I've been using the X-T1 since May 2014 with only manual focus lenses, and focus peaking is amazing to work with, and with the NX1 I get that for video as well, and 120 FPS for slow motion+++, I'm going for this as soon as I get things sold :P It will be a bit sad to lose the X-T1.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  9 лет назад +1

      ***** Yep. Keep in mind that the slow motion 120fps is only in camera...it will only save files to a max 60fps if you want to do the slow motion in post. However, you can record 1/2 time slow motion at 60fps or 1/4 time slow motion at 30fps. It's nice doing the slow motion in camera because it will play back the slow motion on the camera/computer with no editing. Some people though want to record at 120fps and then slow down in post...you can't quite do that on the NX1 though you can split the difference by recording a 1/2 slowed down file at 60fps to further slow down in post if you want. Hope that makes sense. It's sounds confusing when I was typing that but it really isn't

      I think I understand. Now I've recorded on the X-T1 at 60 FPS at 1080p, then interpreted it as 24 FPS in Premiere Pro. But there the image quality isn't very good, the drop from 30/25/24 FPS to 60 is very easy to spot.

    Did you finally get a cine lens for the NX1? IF yes, which one and what do you think of it?

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  9 лет назад

      Philippe Orlando I just picked up the Rokinon 85mm T1.5 Cine DS. It works well because I have manual aperture adjustment on the lens which works well with the dumb Canon adapter I have for the NX1. I still have not found an adapter with an aperture ring on it for the NX1 with good performance to the Rokinon Cine lenses work well.

    is there any crop factor issue when using adapters on NX1?

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  9 лет назад +2

      Пашапродакшн Дмитриевич No issues. The NX1 has an APS-C crop factor of 1.53 so all lenses you put on the camera will need to be multiplied by 1.53 whether they are Samsung lenses for the NX series or Canon full frame lenses. The Samsung 85mm f1.4 will give you an equivalent focal length of 130mm which will be the exact same as a Canon 85mm f1.8 using a Canon to NX adapter. The only time things change is if you use a speed booster which is currently (and likely never will be) available for the NX1

      LearningCameras.com Thank you for your reply, unfortunately that one would only work with EF lenses, and not EF-S. It still seems quite short on the adapters, which is a real shame.

    can you adapt any of the sony/Zeiss lenses ?

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  8 лет назад

      +7thvenom There are some adapters but they are fully manual so you will have no aperture control (which is a big deal) and no autofocus of any kind. You also will not be able to see in EXIF data what lens you were using. As far as I know, no adapter at this point has any form of electronic communication for non Samsung lenses which is crazy.

    hello friend, the Samsung NX1 continuous records how long?
    It supports continuous recording how many?
    In these continuous recordings, the chamber is heated and off?
    if it shuts down, cuato you need recovery time?
    did you use any codec, movie style, pretset for color video?
    thanks for the help

    • @learningcameras

      +Fixion Studios Films Not sure all of your comments but here is what I know:
      It will continuously record for 29 minutes straight. It will split this up in to separate files though as you can't record more than 4GB in a single file. After 29 minutes it will stop recording. You can immediately start recording again but you must do this manually and it will take a couple seconds before the recording will start. For video, It shoots h.265 (only option) and I transcoded this to h.264 for editing on my computer. I shot with the contrast down about 2-3 and the sharpness about -5 for most of this test. There is no log picture profile but the dynamic range is still pretty good. They now have a flatter picture profile which they added later via an update that I did not have as well. Hope that helps

    Thank you for sharing the review. However your review has incorrect information about NX1 focus peaking support for manual lens in movie mode. NX1 supports focus peaking in movie mode for manual lens actually.
    I posted a short video clip which shows how to enable/disable focus peaking with manual focus lens in NX1 movie mode.
    ruclips.net/video/zweM64x6CTY/видео.html
    One reason, why "OK" button is not assigned for focus peaking in movie mode is that "OK" button in movie mode is already assigned for recording "Pause" since long ago. It might be since NX10 if I remember correctly. That's why touch screen got focus peaking screen button in movie mode, I believe.

      Thank you, I am updating the video. It looks like you have to change your display settings in photo mode to turn on the additional settings. While focus peaking is not one of the options in photo mode, it looks like it turns into a touch screen option in video. Thanks for the update! I'm really glad cause it was driving me nuts

    NX1 is a great camera, but for lenses and adaptators, GH4 is better.
    for image quality both are good, with pros and cons.

    LearningCameras.com You said multiple times in this that there were a lot of issues... but you only gave 3, one of which was very minor (would be good to not need to reactivate between each shot), one of which was purely user error, and one that's actually just the fault of Canon EF lenses when adapted to ANY system via an adapter without electronics (the design of EF lenses prohibits changing the aperture physically via an adapter). Canon FD, Nikon, Pentax, etc... lenses work like a charm.

    when did not having third party 100% lens compatibility become a usability or functional deficit? Really... how about just taking pictures..and rating the camera for what it DOES.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  8 лет назад

      +Craig Kratovil That's what the review is for...this video is specifically talking about lenses/adapter options. Please check out the full review for the images and general camera info. Many of us who shoot video use Canon glass for various reasons....1 being that Samsung lenses have electronic focus control so please, try to pull focus with one of those. Plus, cinema lenses give you a different look so you will likely be using other glass at least some times if you shoot video professionally.

    It's better to sale all the spensive canon lens and buy samsung lens, cheapest with more features and lighters, with more blades meaning better boke and excellent glass and build quality.

    what about nikon lenses?

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  8 лет назад

      +Ernie Tromp There are adapters for Nikon lenses as well but they are all manual only so no aperture control from the camera. You need a lens with manual aperture controls on the lens or an adapter with a manual aperture ring and there is only 1 adapter I know of with that ring and it isn't the greatest.

      +Dan Watson i've been using nikon for quite some time (9 years) i think it might be time to try something different and nikon lenses and some sigma lenses are all that i have.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  8 лет назад

      +Ernie Tromp Unfortunately you don't have the best options but I would try this one: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/995045-REG/fotodiox_nk_nx_samsung_nx_camera_lens.html/BI/19484/KBID/11716/kw/FOPSNXANF/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xFOPSNXANFSome reviews say it doesn't work but that's just because they have a tight fit and so if you don't click it all the way, the pin to tell the camera to fire without a lens doesn't activate. I had no issues with the Canon version and Fotodiox typically makes good adapters. Remember, these are full manual adapters so you have no aperture control or focus. Unfortunately no one has made a good electronic adapter for the Samsung NX series yet.
