6 years old camera. Still using it. Still rocking it all the way.. :) Easy to say that it is one of the best cameras ever made.
Just picked one of these up at a thrift shop. I am blown away! I shoot professionally with Nikon and Sony. I never gave this brand a thought even though I follow Max and MarkusPix. I am so impressed. I never had a camera that immediately asked for my wifi network when I turned it on for the first time and proceeded to update it's own firmware. Add to that everything Max is talking about plus the amazing viewfinder. I cant believe I could have been enjoying this for the past 6 years. Glad I at least found it now. Better image quality than my Fuji and Sony APS-C cameras.

Hey Max, Great video! Just wondering... Which adapter are you using? Are there good adapters with aperture control to use Canon lenses with this camera...?
Im using a "Fotasy" Nikon G to NX mount adapter with aperture control. Its not available online now most likely out of stock again but it shows up on Amazon for $25 works great. At this time there is no active EF to NX adapters just manual one that will work with manual EF lenses.

Hi, Great Video !! Im considering buying this camera, as I am a video guy, but I have some concerns. My goal was to use the sigma 18-35mm f1.8 on this camera, but I cant seem to find any adapter that would fit ef-s lenses, or let me control the aperture. I've heard theres nikon adapters that let you do that, but cant find it either. Any idea on where I can find them ?!
ricardosousa11 Thanks! There is currently only one adapter with aperture control, its called the fotasy Nikon to NX adapter but its tough to find. As of now there are no good EF adapters.

My budget is £1400. But would like to spend as little as possible really. (I don't like the 720p restriction with the A7s)
MKN Well then you need really low light and most likely a good wide angle lens. I'd go for a Rokinon 12mm F2 and a Rokinon 35mm 1.4 for your two main lenses.

I have had my Nx1 for a week now and I love it. Sold my BMCC and bought it over buying blackmagic 4k. Only been using legacy primes. Im looking for High End glass for it .... Look at Sigma 18-35 with High End adapter. Do you have experience with it. Would you choose that over the samsung 16-50 2-2.8? looking to buy this week
Philip Page Well I have both 16-50 S and Nikon mount 18-35 1.8 problem is its really hard to find an aperture control adapter, and even then you don't know your F-stop as it's just a de-clicked ring. I would definitely go for the 16-50 for the IS and aperture control, as well as the excellent autofocus of the NX1.

There currently no active EF to NX adapter unfortunately, only manual ones where you'll have to use manual lenses like the rokinons.

Gervasio Goris Are you shooting photos or video? If you want to do an adapter the only current one with aperture control is Fotasy but they are hard to get ahold of. If you get the NX1 I'd just sell those lenses and purchase native ones.

I was looking to upgrade all of my Canon cameras (t3i, t5i, 60d) for a great video and photography camera and I would love to record 4k. What do you suggest? I have a budget for two. Thank you.
Lots of reasons. Basically the only good thing about 5d mark 3 is low light performance and lens selection. No 1080 slow motion, worse quality (detail) 1080p than $600 a6000 Sony. No video features like peaking, zebra ect. No 4k. A7s beats it almost every way for video and costs less. Canon doesn't care about improving consumer vide anymore they want to push the cinema line.

Good review... I was on the ropes when it came between the Nx1 and the Gh4... but ultimately, the GH4 won me over, due to the metabones speedbooster m4/3 to Ef lenses. So what camera is your work horse so far? I do notice a lot of videographers are just grabbing whatever works for their work flow and work environments.
That's going to be my reason for going to the GH4 also.

I've purchased from this seller so have some other guys I know (bought Panasonic shotgun mics) and the seller is legitimate. Great deal if you don't mind a used one.

I met you at the Sony event in San Francisco two weeks ago. You told me you owned three NX1's. Briefly I can't figure out why my HDR option is greyed out on my menu. I've got something else set that keeps it greyed out. Any idea what setting I should change?
IF you are shooting RAW, HDR is not available, at least in my experience.
Could I ask how you transfer your 120fps video to your Mac. I have shot footage with the NX1 at 1080p, 60fps at 0.5 speed in 'Fast/Slow', but when I copy the files to my desktop (by dragging from the disc via usb connection) the file is at just 60 fps? Do I need to import it differently?
Any help on this or an idea of your workflow/software for the slow motion samples you have demonstrated would be greatly appreciated.

Regarding the iMac, I would love to see it working with a 4K project (rendering and editing with effects) compared to the Mac Pro. I know that the latter will smoke it, but have seen nobody doing any heavy work on the iMac - which is putting me off from going anywhere near it.
I'm planning on editing a 4k wedding on it with 3 4k camera multicam to test out how it does as well as lots of other tests and benchmarks. If by heavy work being color grading, de-noising, and other effects for 4k video the Mac pro will definitely do better. I edited the video on this page (simple 4K job) and it did just fine.

Max Yuryev That would have been my route as well - internal SSD and external HHD RAID with 32gb Ram from 3rd party. My main concern would be the single 4gb graphics card being underpowered when adding weighty tasks to just looking after the gorgeous screen. The dual 6gb D700's of the nMac Pro are what are attracting me towards it, with a mind on future proofing. Looking forward to seeing how the Retina iMac performs.

How does the nx1 compare in low light and field of view when the gh4 has the metabones speedbooster on it?
Shooting 4k the GH4 is a 1.6 crop, the NX1 is a 1.5 Crop. Lowlight stays the same but with faster glass using the SB you can keep the iso lower.

Max Yuryev I'm about to sell my FZ1000 in order to move my money towards something a bit more professional in order to shoot some music videos, low budget commercial videos, etc.
So, I watched all of your videos, as i always do. Several times. And I'm as confused as one can be. At first I was ready to invest in a Canon 70d and the sigma 18-35 1.8, since I still wanna have a capable stills camera for landscapes and general events. The sigma lens just seems amazingly capable. The thing is, the 70d video IQ is just so soft compared to for example the GH4. GH4 with a speedbooster (which is not even close to cheap :D) and the sigma would probably be a perfect video match, but the lack of AF in stills isnt a good starting point.
The question is if I go for a GH4 - with what lens to start. The kit 14-140 seems a really good value all arounder, but will probably suck in anything else then perfect light. Should i consider 1 wide and 1 standard prime to start with? Like a 12mm f/2? I really want a capable lens which could snap a good wide angle in low light.
The NX1 seems an even better option for stills due to the bigger sensor, but the question about the lens is even bigger.
I would really apreciate any advice on the direction to go, and especially what lens to buy first. The budget is limited to about 600 for the lens part. I need to be under 2k for both lens an body.

Hi Peter. For the GH4 if you need to stay at $600 it will be a bit tough. Overall the NX1 is a fantastic hybrid camera for great photos and video if you can wait for the video to transcode. (most can) It also have a decent lens lineup and you could pick up a 45mm 1.8 and a 12mm F2 with the camera for about $2000. If you could save up a bit more then I would suggest the kit with 16-50 F2-2.8 S lens, 2 batteries and battery grip, thats a great setup for photo and video. I would try to go that route!

Simple math tells me, i wont be able to get another 800€ for the NX1 w 16-50 for another 6 moths. A lot can be done meanwhile I guess.
Plus there is this minor factor, that NX1 has still not hit the stores in Slovenia.
That factor aside what would you prefer:
1. GH4 + used 12-35 2.8 O.I.S (or maybe olympus 12-40mm 2.8 - with no IS)
2. NX1 + those 2 primes you mentioned (I can't seem to find the 12mm f2 anywhere - did you have the rokinon in mind? is that a manual focus lens?
The extra 800€ could be invested towards a gimbal or sliders and lights in the next 6 moths... probably better?
Currently I own pretty sturdy photo tripod and the cheap steadycam from amazon, which is pretty good value - but takes practice to master. Aside from camera and lens talk, what would you invest a pretty tight budget into first?
Peter Žagar Personally If I wasn't shooting weddings, I would go for the NX1 with the two primes. The 12mm F2 is a Rokinon and is manual focus but with wide angle lenses its easy to manual focus. In your case it depends on when the NX1 would be released. If its going to take a bit longer then you want to shoot now I would go for the GH4 and use that as its still great quality. If you get a good deal on the GH4 and 12-35 (id go with that instead of 12-40) then if you want to change to the NX1 Later when you have more money and it is released then you can do that if theres a market for used camera gear in Slovenia.
I cant really speak to other accesories as I don't know what your recording, but if your doing any sort of audio recording you would want an external microphone.

I will probably go for the GH4, and use the "extra" money for accesories (like a microphone, a slider, a fluid head, dolly, etc...) later on. That will probably make more difference in what and how I'm able to shoot than a better camera itself.
Will see what ppl at samsung will tell me about the camera hitting the shelves in this exotic country of ours ;)

Peter Žagar Mainly the H.265 format over H.264. It takes time to convert it and I'm working on putting out short wedding previews right after the weddings which I cant do if I'm shooting with 3 NX1's.

where the heck do you get all this money? you've spent over 12 thousand dollars this year on gear... 2 gh4's with lenses, nx1, audio recorders, mics, mac pro, 5k imac... you should just build your own studio lol

I am practically am lol. Well I work full time, after bills any extra money goes to this. Any income I earn from youtube goes back to my channel. I also shoot some weddings, and come commercial work on the side, and income from that is going to gear (basically to the channel). Some of the stuff was purchased with money after selling my 5d2's and lens/flash/accessories. (which were purchased slowly from photography income). Some of my gear is on credit loans. The Mac pro is on a 18month payment plan from Apple. A lot of the things I review If I don't need to use regularly get sold and I invest that money back into channel. The 5K iMac is the first product that I've gotten to loan to review and needs to be given back in a couple of weeks.
As far as wedding photos I'm not shooting any wedding photography at this time focusing on video. But from my experience shooting this camera you can get very good results with this camera shooting photos. This camera and current NX lens lineup is definitely enough to do pro photography. The only area i'm not sure of yet is the flash performance but I haven't tested it yet.
