That opening was art. Zoom in on Dave looking worried, the sound of sirens, Dave's face suddenly illuminated by red and blue lights. Before you even wonder what's happened, the quick zoom out turns the emergency lights into disco lights, the music kicks in and syncs up with the sirens. Straight to review.

I'm native to Michigan and have had Via 313 as a now resident of Austin. It's alright. It's no Buddy's but it brings back the nostalgia for sure.
I used to live down the street from this place! Loved going there!
Try the Detroiter at Klavons in Jackson, MI. Best pizza I've ever had, though not as well versed in pizza as Dave.

Been eating at VIA313 since they came to Austin and had a tiny food trailer 3 blocks from my loft… this is great Detroit style pie. I mean really good. Before he took a bite of this pie I could see it was a little less toasted that it usually is. I eat a lot of the pizza Dave eats around the country and sometimes I disagree with Dave on his scores but I’m usually right there with him. I agree that is a 7.5 pie which is respectable. I know one bite of cheese is the rule but some of their other pies with topping are incredible. As far as Rainey street…… played……. Austin is over so you can all go back home now. I hear Nashville is kicking ;)
I wish he would of went to the east 6th location instead I agree looked under cooked a little and really needed some toppings we always get one ambassador and one hawian, 8.5 in my book and I'm a detroit native.
@@djgoliathdetroit Yeah the East Austin location is miles better. I'm from NJ and Via 313 and Home Slice are the only 3 pizza spots in Austin I actually enjoyed. Home Slice is nothing to write home about, but it's a solid Wednesday night pizza in NJ. You order cause it's $9.99 for a pie (2003) and it hits the spot after practice.

You also got a taste of the homeless population Dave. You were near the I-35 underpass where a lot of them live. It was 5 times worse a year or two ago before voters passed a proposition telling the mayor to clean it up.

pizza, there are a few good places I found before I left actually. both in NW austin, try Pizza Roma (definitely try this first) on anderson mill, and Saccone's pizza on research
mexican is all overpriced or too "artisan", tacos el charly is good if you're willing to drive up N lamar into the only "ghetto" in austin which here just means a place with less white people
i love living in SA way more but austin comes alive at night and sometimes that can be nice
