There is just something about this sedan, that even though it's meant to be a luxury car, you can feel the beast under the hood ready to do just about anything you ask it to. I've caught myself going well over 100mph on the open interstate without even realizing it because of how ridiculously smooth the ride is. And the crazy thing is, when you put it in Eco mode on the Highway, it will eat miles with no real loss of power and my MPG hit 38mpg driving about 3 1/2 hours through Texas.....I got to my destination and had well over 2/3 of a tank and had to stop and think, "did i get gas somewhere"...and i hadn't since i left. It was insane gas mileage in Eco at highway speeds of about 80mph.

    The 6-cylinder engine is great for the big US roads but in smaller ones like in Europe, the 4-cylinder 530i is more than enough.
    Plus 6-cylinders have more maintenance and running costs.
    Overall though it is indeed the best daily car with a combination of luxury, sportiness and family trips.

    • @100miledrive
      @100miledrive  Год назад +9

      Thanks for the feedback. An interesting thing about 540i is that B58 is such a great legendary engine that it may even outlast B48, although I am not sure, but the work/engineering they put in it is amazing, and even other manufacturers like Toyota using them. Also what amazes me with B58 is fuel efficiency of 6 cylinder is nearly identical of 4 cylinder but the thrills you get from the 6 cylinder engine shows the real character of BMW. Like if you drive 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder back to back you will realize 6 cylinder is what All BMWs should be as it makes a car so much more alive. 4 cylinder feels like a Lexus was put into BMW's body. Anyway with gas prices especially in Europe it seems we all need some hybrid, plugin hybrid solution.

    I had this same car as a loaner for a few days. MY GOD! It was a beauty. I fell in love with this car the moment I started it up and drove it on the freeway. BMW for some reason since 2020 has been making cars with really bad and faulty sun roofs. They creak and rattle. I recently got rid of my 2020 330i because of that same reason. After taking it around 25 times to the dealer and they were unable to permanently fix the issue, I hired a lemon law attorney and BMW bought my 330i back. I havent heard of any issues with this new 5 series and when I had this loaner I did not see any issues with it at all what so ever.

    I would prefer a little more engine noise too. I owned the F10 550i M Sport and now own the G30 540i M Sport with 20s. I was reluctant at first because I knew I was losing power and driving dynamics. Once I accepted that the 540i was intended to be more comfort than sport, I stopped being as critical. It’s not the intimidating 4.4 V8 boss but the B58 is a great engine and “adequate” for the 540i.

    335 vs 382 hp B58 isn't a matter of a "newer" or "older" B58 engine. It's just a matter of the tune variant that BMW puts in different models.

      @EletriqueGaming 4 месяца назад

      Partially true. The older B58s have a a 6 port exhaust manifold while the newer ones have an integrated 2 port manifold. Also the newer gen B58TU has a proper HPFP where as the first gen ones need an upgrade for tuning. There are definitely mechanical differences between the two variants.

    • @Van-dh5ry
      @Van-dh5ry 4 месяца назад

      I am not quite sure what the manifold design has to do with the original statement that the newer B58 has more power than the older variant.
      In fact, latest variant B58B30M2 has less power (375 HP) than the older B58B30O1 (382 HP).
      It really is just a matter of what car model get a particular variant. Correlation between newer vs older and more power vs less power original comment in the video is nonsense.

    • @100miledrive
      @100miledrive  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yep, I see your point. 340i is such an engaging car. Here is the thing: in the world of 5 series 340i would be 550i which is V8 and that would be a more engaging car but it costs so much more. I just checked BMW's website and saw new 2024 BMW 540i XDrive with bump in horsepower just like X5 - 375hp. 0-60 rated at 4.4 seconds just like my X3 M40i, so it is for sure quicker than previous gen. With M Sport package (M sport suspension) it might be a more engaging car than previous gen 5 series. Very curious to try it out. Otherwise if you want previous gen personally I would get 540i over 340i, but XDrive - I loved the comfort in that car, but yet it still has fairly good handling. I know it's not as exciting as 3 series but I would pick 5 series, but that is just me. I think 340i is a lot more fun car to drive if you want more engaging driving. I am also 6'2 and recently made a video on 330i. I didn't struggle with height, it's just not as spacious.

    • @Quietstorm_ATL
      @Quietstorm_ATL 9 месяцев назад +1

      You are having to choose between comfort and driving dynamics. The 340 has an edge in the performance category but personally it is a bit too “small” for me even though I’m not 6’2. For me, it was challenging enough coming from a 550 to a 540. I could not lose space, driving dynamics, and power (albeit negligible) simultaneously. My work also requires me to spend a lot of time driving in traffic, so comfort and space were higher priorities. The B58 is in a lot of BMWs and performs exceptionally well across the line up. What is more important to you, space & comfort or sportier driving?

  • @tolgaayazseven9139
    @tolgaayazseven9139 Год назад

    • @100miledrive
      @100miledrive  Год назад +1

      Hi there. Both cars are very different in terms of how they feel. My X3 M40i feels taller, more aggressive and more dramatic in terms of engine noise. It has quite commanding drive experience. But seats are firm, suspension is also on the firmer side (you may consider X5 for more comfort). You can watch my latest video where I talk about 3 main issues about X3 M40i.
      As for 540i I personally think this is one of the best BMWs made. It has enough sport, quite comfy seats, very good balance in suspension even for M Sport trim and it's super fuel efficient. Basically if you don't need a crossover then I think 540i is a win/win. Just decide on Rear-wheel drive or XDrive. If you want to drive a bit more aggressively then I recommend XDrive as I did notice some occasional wheel slips in faster accelerations especially when surface is not very good. Also 540i calmer and feels more refined. Well it's a more expensive car overall than X3 M40i.
      I think X3 M40i will cater to anyone who prefers more sport over comfort. Then it's a fantastic car.
