  • Check out part #1 of my time-lapse Pole Barn patio cover. It is not the best built or my dream patio, but I am tired of getting rained on. If you build your own, build it better. I went on the cheap just to get it done. After we get a house, I might spruce it up. Thanks for watching.

    I love the way this turned out. How did you attach the bottom of the posts on the concrete walk?

    • @tractorrookie
      @tractorrookie  3 года назад

      👍💪 Thanks Marti, yes, it turned out okay for going on the cheap! It’s still holding up just fine. At the time, I opted to just put a piece of roofing under each post. I wasn’t sure I was going to keep it. I keep thinking about putting in concrete post anchors, I just haven’t yet. They are fairly inexpensive and not too hard to do. I appreciate you checking out the video!🍺🚜🇺🇸

      @@tractorrookie Why not just put deck blocks on the base of the 4x4's, and you can either mortar them down, or use some concrete adhesive? That way your not drilling into your concrete close to the edge(what it looks like), and if it freezes where you live, if water does get into those holes, that would suck.

    • @tractorrookie
      @tractorrookie  2 года назад

      @@jennyc8255 Hi Jenny! Thanks for checking out the video. Good idea! The only I would have with the blocks is that they would take up part of the walking space and if probably trip over them. Frankly, it’s actually holding up well so far. Take care!🚜🇺🇸🍺

    We have a pole-barn home and need to build a porch nearly exactly like yours. I have a question. In attaching the shed to the building, have you have any water that leaks down at the connection or does it stay fairly dry?

    • @tractorrookie
      @tractorrookie  3 года назад +4

      💪👍Hi there! It’s stays dry. I used black roofing caulking at the seam. If you want to have a foolproof connection you would cut a line in the metal siding and put in matching flashing. I did not want to go to that extreme. Hope that helps. You can also email me if you have other questions. 🇺🇸🚜🍺

    How do you seal up against the building so it doesn't leak?

    • @tractorrookie
      @tractorrookie  Год назад +2

      😊Hi Renee, I cut the roofing panels to match the pattern of the shop. I caulked the seam with roofing tar. It has lasted 3 years so far, no issues. Thanks for checking out the video. 🇺🇸🍺🚜

  • @Griffin854

    How did you flash the seam at the building wall/patio connection?

    • @tractorrookie
      @tractorrookie  Год назад

      😊 hi there,
      Not as good as I should have. I cut the pieces to the contour of the building and ram a bead of roofing caulking along the seam. Cutting into the building and inserting flashing would be ideal. Going on three years it’s still working. Thanks for checking out the video!🍺🚜🇺🇸

    • @Griffin854
      @Griffin854 Год назад +1

      @@tractorrookie My exact delima - cut a horizonal slit and insert flashing or just bend a piece to contour with the existing wall, add caulk.

    • @tractorrookie
      @tractorrookie  Год назад +1

      Right!? I decided not to cut into the building in case I wanted to do something different later. The black tar type caulk has held up for the 3 years it’s been up. I guess it depends on how much water proofing you care about. The sidewalk still gets wet from rain angle, for me it was about not getting soaked going in and out. I used some repurposed materials too, so your stuck with what you have. Good luck with your project!

    I'm thinking of doing this same thing. What are the things that you used on the wall to hold the boards in place

    • @tractorrookie
      @tractorrookie  4 года назад +4

      josh boutwell 🌟I used rafter brackets. If I had it to do over again, I would have attached a 2x6 to the outside, instead of just screwing into the inside one. Additionally, I just cut the panels to match the wall panel pattern and just used roof caulking to seal the joint. A better way would have been to cut into the wall and insert a piece of flashing over the seam. Anyway... Good luck on your project!😎🚜🇺🇸

      😊Hi John! I think you caught me! I don’t think I ever went back and covered the finishing touches in a part 2. I might have mentioned it in another video. If I had it to over again, I would have cut into the existing metal and inserted a flashing piece. Cutting the the patio pieces to match and caulking the gap was a pain. It turned out okay for mostly leftover material. Thanks for watching 👍🚜🇺🇸🍺

      🌟Hi Adam. I am hanging box rails to run the pulleys on. The box rails are going to hang on box rail brackets. I’m mounting the box rail brackets on a 2x6 runner. Nice ideas, but how did you transition between the ribbed barn siding and the ribbed roofing panels? Is there a gap where water can come in or did you seal it somehow.

    • @tractorrookie
      @tractorrookie  4 года назад +6

      Will Partin 🌟 Good question! Cutting a hole in the existing siding would be ideal for putting flashing in to extend over the patio cover. What I did was cut the patio pieces to match the pattern of the existing wall and used black roof/ metal caulking to seal the seam. No leaks so far. Thanks for watching!😁👍😎🇺🇸

    How did you seal the area where the roof net the existing wall? Did you put some kind of flashing up?

    • @tractorrookie
      @tractorrookie  4 года назад +1

      Buster Holloway 🌟Ideally I would have cut into the wall panels and slid a piece of flashing into it to over hang the patio roof. What I did was cut the patio cover sheets to follow the pattern of the wall and caulked it with black roofing sealer. It looks fine, cutting into the building to place flashing would have been better.🤨😁😎🇺🇸
