    Yeah just the side wall right now with the 1x8s or 1x10s or whatever is like $2500 in of itself! Crazy how fast a barn can rack up in cost.

    I recommend after a couple years of the siding drying completely, you give your barn a good coat of paint. It's amazing how rapidly rough cut pine will begin to deteriorate if left unprotected from the elements. Having built a several barns myself, I know from experience. Beautiful barn by the way. I know how proud you are of your accomplishment. No one can ever take your hard work away.

      If you’re in a deep frost zone you need a tube all the way down to what is preferably a footing then backfill around the tube with drain rock. Otherwise the frost will cause the dirt to grab the tube and heave in the winter.

    • @johnritchie3889
      @johnritchie3889 9 месяцев назад +4

      @@miketoopitsin9449
      I’m a structural engineer. Yes, what you suggest is correct. But if you’re drilling the foundations it’s not practical. The frost depth for footings is not how deep the frost goes. The frost will only go a foot or so deep. When the concrete is poured against the rough edges of the hole it locks into the soil. The extra two feet of footing below the actual frost is what keeps the footing from being jacked out of the hole by the frost. Locking it into the soil provides a lot more resistance to uplift than the smooth sides of the tube.

      @@johnritchie3889lol engineers.
      I'm an engineer but you are so wrong frost can reach alot deeper.. especially on ground you've removed the topsoil like this or land that is large and tilled.
      I would wager you don't dig holes in areas where it's cold so perhaps you should not talk about it like you do "engineer"

    • @johnritchie3889
      @johnritchie3889 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@thenarrator1984 That would be why I said “… or so”. My point was that much of the footing is there to resist frost heave. If the frost went all the way to the bottom of the footing, there would be no resistance to heave.
