Fè, which means gourd in Malinke, is a rhythm that is played to accompany a dance in which young girls each hold a gourd in their hands as they dance. The Fè dance is known to be spectacular in its choreog- raphy. Many times Fè is also played and danced to welcome people. This rhythm varies in each village where it is played. Mamady teaches three versions of Fè from three different villages. The rhythm here is referred to as Fè 1 to distinguish it from the other two Fè rhythms Mamady teaches.
