I love the contradiction: Odysseu only reached the underworld because Circe helped him due to his kindness but now the prophet is saying he will only reach home by throwing it away. This sort of contradiction is... real. Greek mythology is iconic because it is grounded in real problems that persist to this day.
Greeks like that in their stories heroes in Greek myths are never heroes we typically think of. They always have a fatal flaw. Heracles was wrath, for all he did his anger was his greatest weakness. For Odysseus it was his compassion. He’s a Captain, a soldier, he’s intelligent and cunning and yet in spite of all that makes him great his mercy time and time again causes problems for him and everyone else. The Gods are all angry with him for different reasons to name a few Athena was angry with him because he’s spares lives when he shouldn’t, he angered Ares because he avoids killing and runs from his problems, he angered Aphrodite because his actions caused him to fail his family and Hera is angry for similar reasons, Zeus is mad at him for his failure as a leader and Poseidon is angry at him for maiming his son. The only god in his court is Hermes. Which makes sense because Hermes is a liar, a cheater, a schemer and a trickster. Messing with people is his specialty
@@Broomer52No, his flaw was his arrogance, as evidenced by him literally starting the story by shit talking the gods claiming sole responsibility for the Trojan Horse.
straight up showing Eurylochus at "a brother's final stand" gave me chills, not even to talk about him RUNNING TO PENELOPE, SHE RUNS BACK BUT HUGS THE MAN BEHIND HIM
AAAAA THE END! Odysseus passing through the Penelope, or missing, as she went to the change version of him, that gave me crazy chills. This is AWESOME👏👏👏
The line "No longer you" hits the hardest. He does get to Penelope but he has to give up everything that makes him "him" 💔 It is really sweet to see that Penelope doesn't care that he has changed but he himself can't accept the change and feels horrified and inferior that it's no longer "him". At the end of the day you can't tell whether he should be happy that he has embraced Penelope after so many hardships or be sad that he has become what he has always despised. The prophet tells him the outcome that he achieves his final goal (Penelope of course) but also brings such implications that he will suffer and that suffering will make him so that he's no longer "him"😭
I like the little nod to your Monster animatic, with Odysseus falling into the river of fire. I overall love this, but I'm sad that my favorite part didn't get animated, the part where Odysseus snaps and is yelling at Tiresias about how they suffered for nothing. But still a great video, it would have been neat though if the one Penelope embraced whore the soldier's armor, like in Monster.
OMG 😳 missed opportunity why didn’t I think of that in the moment 😭. I was really struggling to figure out the cut off point. Odysseus snapping at Tiresias really would have been a great opener.
This is my favorite animation of No Longer You. I love seeing how people animate the prophecies and how they interpret them. 0:15 you see visions of the events in King Odysseus with the palace ransacked by invaders. 0:31 you keep the eyes just out of frame so we don't know if it's Odysseus or not and then he wipes blood on Penelope. 0:44 we get to see the love in Odysseus's eyes when remembering falling in love with her only to switch to Polities's death and it hits him like a punch. 0:49 we see Eurylochus, I assume just after opening Aeolus's bag (people have speculated that was his confession in Puppeteer). The last part I'd like to highlight is 1:00 where we see Odysseus drowning most likely during Get In The Water. Overall, it's incredibly well done.
no, the prophet is talking about the future here, so most likely he's talking about Eurylochus' betrayal. Hence the line "I see portrayals of betrayal and the brother's final stand" which shows how Eury tries to fight Odysseus for the first command position but ultimately fails. The "brother" mentioned is probably Eurylochus. In the Thunder Saga which is going to release this July 4th, we'll get the song "Mutiny" which is all about that. Most likely that's what 0:49 is about also. side note: I absolutely LOVE this animatic, but equally, I also recommend watching Ximena Natzel's version, cool visuals and overall I love them both sorry for the whole 🤓☝moment there
Also just brainstorming here, 1:00 might also be when Zeus punishes Odysseus' men for eating Helios' cattle. Odysseus' ship gets destroyed, and everyone dies except Ody who is seen drowning here but ends up on Calypso's island instead.
@grapee4498 I just know most people draw Eryloches and the cow for betrayal. I didn't know about the other drowning or Mutiny because I've avoided anything about the Thunder Saga before it comes out. I also haven't read the Odyssey yet. I'm waiting until after EPIC is finished.
@grapee4498 I went back to rewatch Ximena's version, and it's really well done. I'd say it's easily my favorite full-length animation. The flashes of Poseidon and the Cylopse are my favorite part of it.
@@IsThatAShortJoke ooohhhh I see, I also want to read the odyssey but I'm not really sure which version is the best since there's many translations lol I'm glad you also liked Ximena's version!
Wow, wow, wow. Your interpretations of the prophecies, glimpses of Ithaca, and just . . . I am near speechless and this is just the later half of the song. Just . . . wow.
They’re actually drawing Tiresias in the singer’s image; who is in fact a handsome young adult man. A lot of the Epic characters are redrawn as the singers too, save for Aeolus who’s sometimes drawn androgynous due to the singer being a woman
Oh there's so much to talk about here. Every Single Transition was a uniquely captivating choice down to Tiresias switching scenes with his staff. The bloody thumbprint on Penelopes cheek contrasted with the 4 frames of a young ody and pen swirling in love are great. Overall your pacing of frames in a second are super effective, emphasizing the panic and fear he feels at hearing these pieces of prophecies. then to end with Odysseus and penelope in a tearful reunion only to realize that pemelope is passing through him to reunite with another man? devastating. I'm really glad you decided to make something for this, the absence was felt from underworld to monster
GOOSEBUMPS! That scene where he runs to her but she hugs his other self...the one that has changed so much and likely turned into a monster...i just adore the foreshadowing ❤
I really LOVE your style. It reminds me of ATTACK ON TITAN. I hope you'll do the Cyclops Saga some days so we can see Levi/Odysseus fighting Titan/Cyclops
This song is kinda funny, because the prophet was technically blind, so all he could see was the past and future, but never the present, and yet the song uses the phrase "I see" so much! I find it kinda funny

@Broomer52 man I'm glad I don't live in the Greek mythos. I think half the time I would tick the gods off and the other half they would tick me off
Yeah, except that’s not what Tiresias said at all in the original story, it’s a thing Jorge changed in this to fit his theme.

Understandable that this was all you had in you, because it sure looks like you put your EVERYTHING into it. This SLAPS!!
this animatic gave me chills its perfect!
Absolutely amazing and I love the how the prophet’s visions are portrayed!!

I've been looking forward to this ever since I've watched you "The Underworld" animatics....
Haha same. I go to my eight-year-old who loves epic with me and I'm like "The prophet is Beautiful!" And he just looks at me awkwardly. lol
THIS WASS IMPRESIVE WTF? WE NEED THE FULL SONG PLZ THIS IS AMAZING!
That was FANTASTIC!! I'm always blown away by your creativity and I loved watching this. Having Eurylochus there was a brilliant touch.
Wow, wow, wow. Your interpretations of the prophecies, glimpses of Ithaca, and just . . . I am near speechless and this is just the later half of the song. Just . . . wow.
God, why does everyone draw Tiresias as a hot dude in their animatics? I know there are a few depicting him as an old man but still. 😂

Wow. Jorge needs to hire you like ASAP, this is stunning. Also your Odysseus is 🔥🔥🔥
0:44 Athena having to hold against Ares' overwhelming willpower/aura is my favorite detail. Like the guy literally stresses her out lol.
I was thinking if you will continue the underworld saga, and here it is! Thanks for this! I just want to see the prophet tbh lol
I just wanna say I love this so much it is so beautiful
